You have to understand that Jordin’s single was released on August 27th. It’s been out for quite sometime and her momentum was quite an uphill battle until the big push happened and she went to itunes and once that happened, the single took off. You can’t base Jordin’s statistics on Blake’s because it hasn’t even been one week yet since the single came out.

Chicago stations must LOVE Jordin or something, because I’m confused that I keep seeing people saying they never hear her song…her song is ALWAYS on. Almost every time I get in my car to drive more than 10 minutes, I hear her song at least once…so i dunno- I’m definitely no expert though! This radio stuff is confusing. and her song HAS been playing pretty consistently since it was released, which is kinda weird I guess

Hopefully once 11/20 rolls around, more DJs will catch wind of Blake’s song and his spins will skyrocket. Like everyone was saying a couple of threads ago, it’s better to slowly build up to it-that will lead to more record sales over the long run, instead of the first week or whatever. We don’t want to overexpose the general public to Blake’s awesomeness-they can’t handle it! haha so as much as we can listen to his song on repeat, not everyone wants to, so I think it’s okay that he’s gradually gaining popularity…or maybe I’m just talking nonsense….

I guess I just assumed everyone knew that and would say to themselves ” OK, well, if that is the case I will have to be patient, these things take time. I think it is awesome that Broke Anotha is on the chart at 88 after the first week, less than a week!!

awww DJ. I’m sorry if that came off a little harsh because I certainly didn’t mean it that way. If you consider the fact that Blake debuted at 130 on Mediabase last Tuesday and almost a week later, he’s now already at 88, then it’s not bad at all.

I’m really thrilled for Blake that he’s got the LG Sports Championship in Dallas on Saturday to look forward to. I hope he will manage to rope a lot of new fans at this gig.

I mean Tattoo was released two months ago! Get it?? And just now it is getting heavy rotation.
Blake’s single has been out only a week and it’s already 88!
I don’t recall Tattoo getting to #88 the first week. Just saying.
It took her lots of time.

I am pretty sure Blake will go up much higher once the official adds are released on Nov 20th. Don’t be desperate!
I think at the beginning of December we will hear the song more often. His single will probably climb much faster than Tattoo.

Something else you have to keep in mind is “Tattoo” is a completely different song than BA. Some stations may prefer one over the other so it’s hard to judge how it will compare in airplay. BA may even end up crossing over to other formats eventually.

Kim - I am surprised to hear that Chicago is playing Jordin. I thought it was generally a tough town for any Idol to get play.

Well, I FINALLY reached the local DJ here and I’m sure I sounded like an idiot. She sounded like she never heard of the song, as she had to write it down. They didn’t have it, but she said she’d pass it on. She also acted like she didn’t know Blake. I assured her it was a great song, told her about Ryan Tedder, how other stations were calling it a Hot Pick. I told her she could give it a listen at the AOL Music site. I blathered all of this AFTER she said she’d forward the information on… Duh! I was overselling it, I think.

I put in a friend req for her MySpace page and told her she could also listen to the song there. So, either my MySpace page will scare her, lol, or intrigue her, since B’s song comes up automatically.

I was just a blathering idiot. I’ve spoken with high-ranking public and military figures, but turn into a nervous-nellie asking for this song! But I’ve broken the ice, so maybe next time I’ll be more coherent!

I must be one of those people who gets you confused, haha. Granted, I don’t get to listen to the radio a WHOLE lot, but I’ve really only heard her song twice.. once on Kiss FM and once on B96. The fact that B96 plays it really confuses me bc it doesn’t seem like the kind of music they’d play.. but whatever airtime she can get, I’m happy with. :) I think B96 would be the type to play B, though!!

Jordin is supposed to be making an appearance at the morning program of the same station I called about Blake’s song. I’m sort of surprised she’d come out to the middle of podunk, but I can only imagine she’s visiting several other stations too. It’s way too early for me to get up to listen to though.

Maybe she’ll mention her buddy Blake, lol, tho I know she doesn’t have to. Since the dj I talked to didn’t seem to know who he was. BTW, I heard “Tattoo” twice on this station tonight.

Guys, according to Mediabase this morning, on the quick cut chart for BA, it's showing B having 122 spins. The actual Mediabase chart is showing 106. He is ranking currently at 80 with 42 stations playing the song as of yesterday!

I am telling you once Nov 20th comes around, I am sure we will be hearing the song a lot more. He has accomplished a lot this first week.

Here is the Mediabase info for BA as of 11/06: On the quick cut info chart, it is show that Blake has 153 spins. The Mediabase chart is showing 126 spins. This is how the #'s breakdown: 14 HAC 128 POP 1 RHY Blake is gone up 6 notices to #74 on the Mediabase chart with 45 stations now playing now playing BA.

well, i finally got someone at my local station to answer my email. she said she will definitely pass the suggestion along to her music director and see if he’ll let her play it, but she thinks it might be “too r&b” for their station. i think she really means that the edges are a little too hard. but i don’t know if the more “urban” station will think it’s edgy enough, although they do play a lot of JT and they used to play JC, so maybe. those two are the closest we have to top 40 stations here in vegas, so i hope B doesn’t fall in the crack in between.

does anyone know if BA has made it onto any of the XM countdowns yet?

TH=hat’s were the song is getting the most airplays.

It’s perfect for their format and best for Blake because usually those are the most important stations to sell records.

Not sure if this is the right category for this topic, but I’d be curious to get feedback on someone that knows a bit more about how these rankings are tabulated… I want to make sure I buy ADD where it will be counted, and I don’t care to use Amazon.

I was just looking at an article from one of my local radio stations. For one thing, it bugs me that Canton (OH) has 7 spins on Blake, and it’s still not playing here. But since it’s been a couple of days, I’ll give that dj a call to check on status.

Anyway, this article reports a bit of a controversy over the #1 album. Wal-Mart sold an exclusive Eagles album which sold way more than “Blackout.” This was sold But Wal-Mart does [i]only[/i] at Wal-Mart, and they do not normally report sales to Soundscan, so it wasn’t counted. And Billboard normally doesn’t allow exclusive releases to be counted. But, it appears now that Wal-Mart would share sales data for The Eagles and that Billboard will count it.

So, let’s make sure that we buy ADD where sales are going to count. I’d like to make sure that now that The Eagles are being counted, that future sales will be too, but I’m skeptical. The article also mentions that Target and Starbucks offer exclusive sales too. ADD obviously is [b]not an exclusive album,[/b] but these stores surely count regular album sales into Billboard? The way I’m reading the artical, Wal-Mart does not report at all?

Just to clarify, #71 on Mediabase is not #71 on Billboard. There will be no sales figures for B (unlike Jordin’s numbers now) until Break Anotha impacts on 11/20. The airplay now is great, but I think the itunes downloads will give a better picture of what to expect from ADD sales.

As reference, Jordin’s sold 198,000 copies of Tattoo thus far; Blake’s cover of YGLABN sold 192,000 copies.

This article says that WalMart does not normally report sales to SoundScan - does this just apply to Exclusive sales only (where CD is only sold at this store)? It also mentions that Target and Starbucks will do Exclusive sales too. I want to make sure when I buy ADD that it gets counted in sales rankings for Billboard. Re: the article about the Eagles. It’s written in a sloppy way and it’s easy to misunderstand some of what they are saying. Walmart does report to Soundscan, but when a CD is sold exclusively in Walmart and no other outlet then normally that particular CD isn’t reported to Soundscan. It would be counted on the BB Comprehensive Albums chart, not the Top 200. The same with Target. They absolutely do report to SS for general CD sales. But if an exclusive is sold (ex: Elliott’s Xmas CD) it won’t be counted. I have a list somewhere of stores that don’t report I’ll dig up. As far as I know it’s mainly wholesale clubs like Costco, BJ’s, Sams and drugstores that don’t report to Soundscan. I think a place like Starbucks is a moot point because I can’t imagine Blake’s album being sold in there. J/Arista have had CD’s available there but that’s more like Eddie Vedder, Annie Lennox that struck special deals.

Heh! The topic of buying Blake’s album is a rather salient one! I was just talking to spouse about that, and how I’ll be there at Walmart Dec4th etc–and he says,”But why? You already have your’s on pre-order?!” Alarm, coloring his voice yes. I think it was only then he realized that we would in fact, be buying MORE THAN JUST ONE. Perhaps even, several.
Why? Because his wife is a fangirl. Pretty simple.

I told him Jordin inferred that there would be more than one special edition kind to get, incarnations, whatever, and he got a funny look in his eye. Oh yes. I smell fear! Hah!!

I hadn’t even thought about where of buying them, impacting best market value. Crystal that’s a good question.

Since we have broached on the topic of different versions of the same CD, I thought it a good time to post this msg. I’m placing it on a few boards. When Daughtry fans started piling up extra versions of his CD, they began donating the extras in gift packages to soldiers in hospitals and overseas. It blossomed into Operation Home, a year round project.

I already contacted Operation Home to see if she would welcome us sending her Blake’s CD. She is very enthusiastic about having another fanbase contributing, as she sends different CD’s, not just Daughtry. It would be a great way to support the troops, no matter your stance on the war. Some Daughtry fans told me they just order the CD online and ship it directly to her to include in the packages. Of course, that helps CD sales numbers too.

here are this morning’s mediabase charts and they don’t look as good as they did yesterday.

We went from 45 stations playing the song to now 37 stations playing BA.

He still ranked at #74 on the Mediabase chart with 182 spins on the quick cut chart and 136 spins on the Mediabase chart. So, at least the spins are still increasing.

I wonder what counts as being played. I called our local station yesterday to request it since they played a sample of the song last Friday. But the DJ told me that it was not on their list yet to play. Is that correct. Does it have to be on a playlist in order for the DJ’s to play the song?

Pam, relax. Isn’t this the first time you’re tracking spins? This isn’t something that will become a trend, it’s something that happens to everyone at various points during radioplay. Sometimes a station you see down as a station playing it is only giving it test spins. If a station gave it two spins but several days ago obviously they aren’t playing it anymore but may again. It’s done very well so far for a song that’s been out the amount of time it has. Not all songs are going to shoot up every single day, even some of the biggest songs have seen decreases.

I was thinking yesterday about this timeline. Back in the BLMM chat in early July (before the tour) was when Cisco said that Blake was working with Ryan Tedder. He referred us to the One Republic page and the song “Apologize.” Think about…that was July. It’s now November, and “Apologize” just reached #1. I’ve only heard it in my area randomly the last month. And, it’s on all the time now.

Sooo…I think things are lining up pretty well for Blake when it comes time for the big push and subsequent album release.

For those that have been worried about the mention of One Republic when the song is played, I’ve noticed more and more than they are being mentioned as “Timbaland featuring One Republic” now and so that gets them some good mention and connects them more to the song.

Speaking of Apologise–and I was, as it happens today– the Video for that is GREAT. FREAKING GREAT. It’s them, in a studio, playing their instruments like their recording it…and it sounds so SO good. Even being the Timbaland version, it is interesting to watch, and soulful. When Ryan sings, I just heart him a little.

they were playing “Apologize” here several months back, before it shot up the Billboard chart. Although today I heard it and the DJ referred to it as a song by “Timbaland” with no mention of One Republic, WTF???? I know he collaborated with them on it, but isn’t it more like One Republic featuring Timbaland given how the main focus is the band? :D Did Timbaland write the song instead of OR (the lyrics, music)?

Yay for Hartford and their BShorty love! :)I heard “Break Anotha” on KSS again for the second day in a row, at around 12 pm. It’s pretty cool that my local station plays B the second most in the country at the moment.

Oh, I wouldn’t worry yet about Blake’s airplay. I have only heard Jordin’s song once so far but her song was officially released in late August!!!!! I know her impact date was later than that though. It took Jordin a few MONTHS to get decent airplay and significantly move up the Billboard chart. From a business perspective, it’s better to have B’s single get more spins in late November-early December since that’s when his album comes out.

Timbaland didn’t write the song. I don’t know all the details but I think OneRepublic has had “Apologize” in its repertoire since like 2004. I guess at some point along the way when Timba was mentoring Ryan he heard “Apologize” and added his beats to it, put it on his album, and the rest is history.

I agree with all of you about relaxing. I had not heard “Tattoo” on the radio at all until yesterday. I hear Apologize pretty much every day and they always say it’s by One Republic. I love the morning show DJs I listen to. They went to the AI finale and interviewed Jordin and Blake afterwards. I e-mailed them a few days ago but haven’t heard back from them yet. I know BA would fit well with the other music they play so I am hoping to hear it on the radio soon.

Things have just gotten interesting on the AllAccess.com page. I was just checking there because they update twice daily just as Mediabase does. I was checking the top 40 mainstream to see if any new stations had added BA to their list of hot pics and well, one has! We lost Canton, OH yesterday where that was concerned and got West Palm Beach in it’s place but tonight we have a new station which makes it 7 again just like it was yesterday morning. LOL Here is the new station they added to that list tonight:

What actually happened was that the station took BA off their Hot pics list, but you are right about one thing, it does seem to even out in the end. That station in Tulsa, I hadn’t seen that one on the list of stations before under the hot pics section until tonight and to see B’s name there with the other’s listed there was nice to see! I’m sure we may lose a the song as “hot” pic to a station or 2 occasionally, but so far, it’s looking good!

We are now down to 29 stations the playing the song, but actually the news gets a lot better from here.

The quick cut chart is showing that BA is now up to 212 spins. This is the breakdown in spins.

The Mediabase chart is showing BA is now getting 142 spins with his rank up 3 to #71 on the Mediabase chart today. The song had been holding at #74 for 2 days.

It’s not a strange report. Like I said yesterday when we were seeing that 45 or 40 stations were playing the song a lot of those were stations gave the song a sample spin or a test spin. If they gave it a couple of spins but never played it again they won’t be counted as a station playing it anymore because technically, they aren’t. It’s moving up in spins because some of the format leaders are upping the spins. The bullet slowed down a little but sometimes songs can go up in rank when songs near it slow down more.

Quickcut data counts the amount of spins to date and are combined from all formats so that number will likely never drop. So even if a station gave it one spin and never played it again it will still count in the quickcut data.

A lot of stations won’t play a certain song until it’s added to their playlist. Was the full song played or a sample?

Exactly, once the radio adds are in effect on Nov 20th, a lot of more stations will have the song on their playlists and also his song will finally be available on I-Tunes. I really think BA is going to do amazingly well. The song is catchy as hell and perfect for Top 40 format.
I am so happy he is up to #71! Yay for winning the Utah contest 6 nights on a row! Wow!

ROght now he must be getting ready to shoot his video! Can’t wait to see that!
