The HDD numbers coming in are less than encouraging, so far…kinda depressing. I know Blake will be thrilled and amazed no matter what but I have that Idol competitiveness still built in - I want him to kick ass and take names, even if he doesn’t care about that stuff.

  5. 5 Nic Dec 10th, 2007 at 4:54 pm

Well, the thing that strikes me is how bad CD sales in general are, not specifically for Blake. It’s the friggin’ HOLIDAY SEASON and VERY few CD’s are selling well at all at the moment, with the exception of a handful of individuals.

I don’t think the lack of radio airplay helped him either, but OneRepublic had massive airplay and look at their CD sales. The CD sales market is going down the toilet in recent years. Plus with the increased cost of living (price of gas, groceries, utilities, taxes, rent, etc.), people don’t have as much money to blow on music, let’s face it.

Perhaps Blake should have released a beat boxing version of Christmas songs, since Americans apparently love buying X-Mas CD’s and not much else this time of year (god knows why, I’ve never understood the appeal myself!).

Remember that the big retailers don’t come in till the very end, you guys. Just because he’s low right now, that doesn’t mean he has no chance of hitting 100k.

  7. 7 dani Dec 10th, 2007 at 5:50 pm

I’m confused about the itunes #’s I don’t get how they work??? someone explain i to an idiotic 13 year old plz???

  8. 8 arkarch Dec 10th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

The delay in release, I understand related to bronchitis, may have thrown off a more carefully orchestrated promotional schedule. For example co-op deals to get Blake’s Album on top placements may have been altered; also appearances on late night television such as the TBD Leno may have happened pre-strike. You also get perilously in to the holiday music season, something that would have been non-factor just a few weeks before.

Nevertheless I think the label’s Publicity machine is doing a fine job scrambling to get Blake Lewis out there. We may just have see this on a longer term, hopefully with legs should “How Many Words” becomes the breakthrough, maybe a prime kick-off for NYE (hardly a song for new beginnings, but ah well). Its apparent they are already moving that direction with the big-show promo outtros.

  9. 9 Bully Dec 10th, 2007 at 7:06 pm

WOO! Can’t wait to see the final numbers…we are half-in you say Crystal J? Tomorrow morning, it will be final?

eta: I bought the three songs Sawka and iTunes has there. Google ads mocked me until I clicked the bait. *sigh* Funny enough, I only heard the one song myself, today on Kent’s myspace.

  10. 10 Nic Dec 10th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

    Bully,

I love that Sawka-BShorty collaboration for
“Move On”, I had it as my MS profile song for a little bit before I added “Surrender” on there.

  11. 11 Sarah Dec 10th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

Exactly, Brooke. Thank you for being the voice of reason. From what star told me earlier, those numbers are with only like 18% of retailers reporting, and without all the big retailers.

  12. 12 Crystal J. Dec 10th, 2007 at 7:53 pm

I don’t think anyone is in a big panic here. :o) This discussion has also been going on over in the CW thread. 60k with 50% reporting in is looking good. I’ve been mentioning how these are the rural numbers and urban numbers tomrrow.

  13. 13 Crystal J. Dec 10th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

    Hold on - that’s 50% of the numbers? I think that’s fantastic!!!

It was earlier. It’s now 60.19% of the #’s. There was no change between the last update and this one but at least the big retailers are reporting tomorrow!

  18. 18 Crystal J. Dec 10th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

That’s 60% of the retailers reporting.

  19. 19 MA Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Dunno if anyone else noticed this, but the used “Break Anotha” as on of the lead-in songs during the pre-show to Monday Night Football on ESPN. It was a bunch of football highlights and they did put up full song info in the corner of the screen, music video style. So it’s making it’s rounds. :)

  20. 20 Laura Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

    Blake as a Pop Tart… (it’s on Cisco’s MySpace videos page…)

  21. 21 joyce Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

yep..heard a little of the song 3 x’s…but are football watchers the one who buy CD’s..I thought mostly the younger crowd and girls..not men who are watching football

  22. 22 Crystal J. Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Actually, there are guys buying the CD.

  23. 23 Michelle Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:40 pm

and plenty of chicks watching football ;)

  24. 24 joyce Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:46 pm

I hope so…some AI sit…someone stated taht Jordin has sold 75K vs Blake 60K…is this true or someone being obnoxious…

  25. 25 music4me Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:47 pm

and they are not all the younger crowd.:)

  26. 26 Michelle Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Well, Jordin sold about 120k her first week…we’re not sure about Blake yet. I don’t think anyone expects him to outsell her, she has the Idol title and Tattoo on the radio for the past few months on her side.

  27. 27 Lisa Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:52 pm

All ages, men and women buy CD’s. I never understood the logic that only young girls buy them.

someone stated taht Jordin has sold 75K vs Blake 60K…is this true or someone being obnoxious…

Huh? Jordin is at 31,427 on the chart so far.

  28. 28 TH_EY Dec 10th, 2007 at 11:06 pm

I believe they were talking how Jordin was selling two weeks ago.

    NOW IN: 53.30%
    – 7 JORDIN SPARKS 19/JIVE/ZLG 71,594

    NOW IN: 68.18%
    – 8 JORDIN SPARKS 19/JIVE/ZLG 97,921

    NOW IN: 60.19%
    – 10 BLAKE LEWIS ARISTA/RMG 60,232

  29. 29 joyce Dec 10th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

I was just thinking about the AI concert crowd..mostly females or atleast that’s what I saw…that was my logic for Blakes fans base..until this CD hits the airwaves, hopefully, he’ll broaden his appeal..

the 75K quote came from AI…that’s what a responder said to someone who was claiming BLake was beating Jordin.so I was confused..

  30. 30 pj Dec 10th, 2007 at 11:18 pm

Blake will be in the range of 95-100K. No worries :)

  31. 31 r Dec 10th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

How can this week’s sale be compared with Black Friday’s? Whatever. I’d be happy enough if the sales crack three-digit.

  32. 32 dani Dec 10th, 2007 at 11:37 pm

ha Blake is an awsome poptart!!!

  33. 33 ld Dec 11th, 2007 at 1:21 am

Dani, I know what you mean! Just love that Ninja Pop Tart! Blake is so multi talented! Hope the sales are great but I’m not going to fret numbers! I’ve found that people love the cd when they start hearing it. And everyone I’ve spoken to is at least over 25 so I know his fans aren’t all young girls.

  34. 34 dani Dec 11th, 2007 at 1:32 am

id still keep in mind there are some younger fens (i.e. me “cuz I rock that way”

this is random but it’s my little quote thing toh

Rock to your own beat even if your a little off beat with the rest of the world!

Well, they don’t know everything do they? LOL

  39. 39 Bully Dec 11th, 2007 at 12:39 pm

What was Jordin’s first week sales? Wasn’t it over 100,000? I think that’s what shellybean was talking about, above. Don;t they have different sales figures? First week, and then Cumulative?
