OMG!!! Last night there was a discussion about how much leeway artists have in their choice of songs they perform. I sent a message to Blake and asked him that question. He answered me!! He will be performing HMW tonight on Kimmel!!

that’s so awesome that Blake answered you, and yay for HMW :)! B answered one of my PMs a while ago when I asked if he got my birthday gift (he did, and thanked me for it). It’s pretty cool how he actually reads the messages from his fans and writes back to some when time permits.
I really do love HMW and I’m anxious to hear how it sounds live, other than the AOL Music sessions (when his voice wasn’t at its best) or the Jingle Ball videos (where the audio is more distorted).
I am so glad to hear that Blake will be performing HMW. I wish he would be able to perform more of the songs on ADD so that everyone would know just how much variety is on it. Break Anotha (even though I really like it) does not really represent what his album is about. Hopefully if he is able to get more of the songs out there the album will soar. It really is a great album!!!
I noticed BA doesn’t really fit the vibe of the rest of the album. BA is like this on the album ——^———-. I love it, but its 4 months in, with no real big boost. Maybe a 2nd single would help BA. IDK..
OH, and super stoked he is performing HWM.. Now, I have to come up with my own interpretation of the music video…But I still want SURRENDER as the next single.
Girls, according to the itinerary that I posted in the previous thread from PHJ, it doesn’t look like we will see HMW performed live. It looks like only the studio audience will see it.
Maybe there will be someone at the show who will get it on youtube for us to see it. :)

Well, maybe they can feature “How Many Words” on the Kimmel web site? I should ask the Top 40 stations if they can play HMW even if it’s not officially released???? Grrrrr.
I finally heard Phil’s song. Thanks for the you tube link, Pam. I’m not much of a fan of country music but I do love Phil and enjoyed the song. Hope it hits big for him!

Hey all–
That Phil song MP3 might take a couple minutes to load, ESP if you are on dial up. It took a minute for me, and I have high speed. All you get at first is a white screen, and yeah, it makes one wonder!

ETA: I forgot to mention, but Phil’s song was actually written by the singer from Rascal Flatts! Everything they touch of late turns to gold, I swear.

So much to catch up on!
Firstly, I think Phil’s song sounds great, as far as country goes. That chorus is extremely catchy. I’m emailing the links to my parents, who are big country fans. I’m not sure Phil is up their alley, but we’ll see.
Next, I can’t believe the Phoenix station said they didn’t have BA. They most certainly played it twice the other day. I guess that’s all they wanted to play it? Call them back and ask for it again. When they say they don’t have it, politely tell them that you saw on Mediabase that they had played it twice already. The link for Mediabase has already been provided. Click on Blake’s name to get a list of the stations. Then click on “format starters” to see the Phoenix station.
I was driving all day. I ran thru ADD a couple of times. When I turned it off, just to see what was happening on the radio, BA was playing! It was great to hear it, but neither of my Top 40 stations are monitored by Yes or Mediabase.
Nic - I’ve been requesting BA and HMW to Z100 about twice a week. No response. Last one I sent, I asked if they were ever going to play Blake. I’m sure they won’t reply, but I thought it worth a try. Maybe they don’t even read the comment in the request section.
Does anyone know Blake’s sells this week?
Lest I forget, I stopped by the same WalMart I posted about several days ago as not having ADD…..They still don’t have it. I was prepared to ask the clerk about it, but naturally she was helping some kids buy a video game. I didn’t have time to wait. But Josh Groban’s “Noel” is still up.
No, not yet. Since HDD only shows the top 50 sales projections, we may have to wait till tomorrow or possibly Thursday for the #’s.

Sunday night I did a search on the Barnes and Noble site by zip code. You can find out that way if a certain store has the CD in stock. There were tons and tons of those stores of the ones that I looked up in different states that showed the CD as “out of stock.” However, they only update that info every 24 hours so that could have changed by this time yesterday.
Awesome news, Barbariba! I’m excited to hear him on Kimmel. Hopefully HMW will be aired in its entirety. It’s such a pretty song, an will doubtlessly grab some new fans. His voice is just so pretty when he sings that way!

FWIW, earlier I signed up to particpate on ratethemusic.com. I just had to give some info about myself and select the type of music I listen to the most. After I did that, I was asked to complete a Top 40/Pop survey. “Break Anotha” wasn’t included in the survey (of course that doesn’t mean it wasn’t in the past!). Regardless, I listen to the radio a lot at work so it’s kind of cool to think my responses on the survey might have an impact on what gets played.
Radio play for BA is picking up in my area. I was listening to the radio on my way home from work and it came on! Even though I’ve heard it a bajillion times on my CD, there is just something about hearing it on the radio that is exciting!
Can’t wait for Kimmel tonight!

I noticed that there were a few (apparently) new stations on YES today, so maybe airplay IS picking up or will start to soon.

The new station today was just the Boise station. Actually some of those other stations hadn’t played the song in a couple of days but seeing the new station today was a very pleasing site especially since it wasn’t in the wee hours of the morning because that’s when most of those new stations seem to pop up. LOL
I have to say too that it has been a pleasant sight seeing that up arrow at Mediabase. An up arrow is always good. :D
I hear ya! He only sold 15k? What is happening? That seems so low for this moment in time. ADD is not selling what is supposed to be.
Guys, we need to help him with radioplay, if things keep going this way the record will go even lower down the charts soon.
He needs a boost ASAP. I really can’t understand why BA is not being well received in radio.

Jordin started with very low sales, but once her single”Tattoo” moved up the charts she has been selling steady and higher, and now her album is certified gold. I want the same thing happening for Blake!

Well, as I have said before, we need to request the song at our local radio stations. No, not every single day but every 2-3 days seems reasonable. It almost seems like quite a few Blake fans aren’t bothering to ask to hear it and if everyone does that, there will be no demand for it.
I remember that I never heard “Tattoo” a single time around here for over 2 months after its official release, then all of a sudden it was all over my radio within a week (was the label heavily pushing it or what??).

CD sales are always terrible during January, I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see Blake selling 10-12k or something. ALL sales drop alot this time of year, regardless of who the artist is.
Well, the Memphis station, q107.5, is (comparatively speaking) pretty
Blake-friendly. It’s playing ‘Break Anotha’. But I requested it online tonight for good measure!
We know it’s under 15K but we don’t know what the estimates are seeing that it wasn’t in the top 50.

January usually is not a good sales month for CD’s in general since it’s after Christmas. Some folks are still paying on Christmas purchases and don’t have a lot of money to spend, so that really isn’t unusual.

That’s the station I heard it on this afternoon. They are pretty good about supporting new artists. And they are also good about getting them in to Memphis for club dates when they start their tours! :)

That station is monitored on the yes.com site as well as Mediabse. I’ve noticed that this station has played it quite a bit. :)
Yes, Pam … and hopefully good for Blake! LOL. I’m just sorry I didn’t think to try sooner! I may have been complacent because this station was one of the first to rack up serious airplay for Blake.
I only drive 2 miles to and from work. So I don’t get too much exposure. But Lori mentioned that radio play seems to be picking up in our market. Looks like the spin numbers dropped slightly this week. But the stats are still respectible!
Idol held auditions in Memphis last season, and a lot of folks tried out here, (including a few of the top 10, as I recall), so maybe the town is a bit more Idol friendly?
I noticed that as well, but you are right, the #’s are still fairing pretty good there. :)
Pam- How do we tell if BA is being played in our area? We have several Top 40 style stations in our area.

So some stations that play it won’t even show up there. How do we get a comprehensive list of all the stations in the U.S. that DO play it?

That’s true. Some the stations that show up on that site aren’t Mediabase monitored and some of the Mediabase one’s don’t show up there on Yes. I have a daily list saved of stations from the Yes site that play BA using MS Excel on my PC saved by the date.
