It’s always interesting to see different songs from the CD enter the Mediabase chart, but seeing this song enter on HAC is quite interesting.

    Very interesting

    What is happening?

That’s an attention getter. Especially if they show the video…;)

After the way Blake performed that song on AI, a video for it would definitely be an attention getter. :wink_wp: It would have been nice had it been a song on the CD, but hey I can’t complain. :)

I always loved that song, his intereptation think I spelled it right lol. I hope it does take off.

And some interesting (to me at least) iTunes moves. ADD is barely hanging in the Top 100 at 100, and is sitting at 25 in Pop (both a few places down from the last time I checked). BUT I noticed yesterday that Blake’s EP is in the top 100 of Pop (sitting at 88 today). And Jordin has moved up several spots and now sits at 21 in Pop. I’m really interested to see the sales numbers for this week. I’m wondering if they both aren’t going to get a “pop” from the start of AI.

Have those of you who have watched AI in the past seen an increase in alumni sales when the new season started?

well its looks like the writing is on the wall..with all the TV appearances, it did not equate to playing time on the radio…ALRIGHT bring on the 2nd release..can’t keep beating a dead horse…I like the song BUT it seems not to be..so heres to celebrating a new release and hope it soars! ( I was shopping today since its a holiday and what did I hear on the radio but Tatoo..Sparks may be nice but I really don’t like the voice in this..sorry…Blakes song have so much more musical (can’t think of the right word) but it starts out, bring in another beat and then cricle around and finishes..he has a wonderful musicality…maybe tis called laying but it makes his songs very interesting and enjoyble as well as fun to sing along!

Exactly. I think it’s time now for the label to think and release a second single. Obviously Break Anotha did not strike a chord with the listeners. That’s too bad, I thought the song had potential. I guess after all those TV appearances the general audience just didn’t connect to the song. Sigh…

I’m not at all sure that you can draw a correlation between lack of radio play and how listeners to the TV shows felt about BA. After all we know it is virtually impossible to goad the radio stations into playing BA. I’m beginning to think that radio play can influence CD sales BUT that gaining radio play is mainly influenced by forces beyond the control of us fans. (And thanks to everyone on Team Plaid that has educated us to this fact.)

  11. 11 Bully Jan 21st, 2008 at 2:35 pm

BreakAnotha is my young teenage girls’ second fav song, so we know it DOES have appeal to the young folk.(as well as us sexy older ones! hah!) One prefers EOTW as firstchoice, the other HMH, but they aren’t too picky. Someone said yesterday that EOTW would be a great Summertime song, and I so agree.

I still think BA has lots of chance out there, once it can get some airplay. With the way those ladies at Z100 were acting about Blake, I can only assume they are waiting for Opportunity to put it on and watch it go! The go-ahead, as it were.

    Bully,

I really do believe those ladies were carried away with Blake, no doubt about that! It really is all about getting a “thumbs up” signal from the program director to play it and I think if they did get the “signal”, I think they would play it.

  13. 13 Nic Jan 21st, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Too bad that “Break Anotha” is declining on the charts, and Z100 STILL hasn’t played the song ONCE. I really don’t see them ever playing it at this point. If the program director has adamantly refused to add it to the playlist so far, I can’t imagine him-her suddenly changing their mind now. Maybe I’ll be shocked and it’ll happen, LOL.

I wandered onto the YES site the other day and saw EOTW pointing out how Jordin is performing at Z100’s ZZoo party in the Bahamas, so it seems pretty obvious who’s getting the pimpage from that station. It sure isn’t Blake.

http://www.z100.com/pages/contest/partyplane/ (here is that ZZoo thing, pretty much all r and b-pop and hip hop artists)

It really does seem that way, doesn’t it? I will continue to request at my local stations and vote online, but it’s probably outside our control.

That awsome that time of the season is up there I love it it’s one of my fave AI performances!!!

  15. 15 NBNN Jan 21st, 2008 at 3:17 pm

I don’t think I will get too excited about Time of the Season. It was played 1 time, BA was also played 1 time on HAC. We have seen a single station playing one of Blake’s AI songs on several occassions. I WOULD get a little excited if we saw a few spins, by a few stations, of additional songs from the CD.

  16. 16 joyce Jan 21st, 2008 at 3:32 pm

Again, I just find it interesting how very few stations even played the song..I’m scratching my head..its is money that pushes song on the air? it can’t be the sale sof CD, bacause when ADD 1st came out, it did pretty well…

    Joyce,

I do think payola may be involved when it comes to many songs first getting a major push on the radio. I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s the case with “Tattoo”. As I’ve said before, I didn’t know ANYONE who actually really LIKED Jordin’s song the first time they heard it - many of my friends told me it was too generic, forgettable, yadda yadda. But, the more you keep hearing a song over and over, the more familiar it becomes and you may start to like it.

  18. 18 joyce Jan 21st, 2008 at 3:46 pm

    Nic

Clive, etal have money.or maybe they spent it all on Blake’s collaboration song writing team…or maybe they misjudged the fanbase..I too thought Blake had a much stronger base than Jordin’s…no Tatoo is not to my liking (again maybe it the voice)but for heaven sakes. other than XM radio, very few,..I wonder if they played Blakes songs in Washington?

  19. 19 NBNN Jan 21st, 2008 at 3:54 pm

Joyce, until very recently the Seattle KISS station did play BA - quite a lot. But when I checked Mediabase this morning this station was not showing up. Can any of those folks that can get the full Mediabase report check to see if they have really stopped playing BA entirely?

  20. 20 music4me Jan 21st, 2008 at 4:49 pm

BUT I noticed yesterday that Blake’s EP is in the top 100 of Pop (sitting at 88 today). And Jordin has moved up several spots and now sits at 21 in Pop.

Blake’s LP has been (mostly) in the Top 100 Pop Albums for a while…I think it was off for a few weeks but it seems to keep popping back on that list. Makes me think that what’s on the EP (and was on AI) is what people expected from his debut CD. It also looks like “Tattoo” is losing a bit of steam.

  21. 21 joyce Jan 21st, 2008 at 4:59 pm

well, lets hope the CD keeps selling..again, maybe his European sales may boost him over the top and have U.S. again revisiting his music and realize indeed, it is GOOD!

  22. 22 NBNN Jan 21st, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Thanks, music4me - I thought I remembered seeing the EP in the Top 100 a few times - but I couldn’t really remember HOW often.

  23. 23 Nic Jan 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm

What songs were on Blake’s EP? I’m not really sure how what is on the A.D.D. album is so *drastically* different from what he performed on Idol though?? There are certainly some swoony ballads, a few Maroon 5 type songs, and new wave-alt stuff that is reminiscent of “Lovesong”.

I suppose that “Break Anotha” may have been a little TOO different but most of the CD isn’t THAT far off from what he did on Idol IMO. He did the Jamiroquai and 311 songs which are funky and hardly M5 ish to me, which may be more in line with G2GH and WYG2L.

  24. 24 maracaibo Jan 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm

Tha’s what I am thinking. Maybe casual fans were expecting a different sound from Blake, songs like Time of The Season, Love Song, Somewhere Only we Know, This Love, etc. You know, songs like he did on AI.
But who really knows why the sudience did not connect with BA.

  25. 25 joyce Jan 21st, 2008 at 5:40 pm

there may be some who have not looked pass BA and have not taken the time to check out the other songs..maybe assuming a lot a beatboxing…

Well he is more SLTW then YGLABN.

Here is something I found on our local top 40 station
    http://www.ask4direct.com/musiccharts/kxix

At least they are playing BA, but I only heard it twice and Jordin’s countless times.

What songs were on Blake’s EP?

    Nic,

The songs on Blake’s EP are Imagine, You Should Be Dancing, You Give Love a Bad Name, I Need To Know, This Love, When the Stars Go Blue, Time of the Season, You Keep Me Hanging On, Love Song, Mack the Knife.

I’m not really sure how what is on the A.D.D. album is so *drastically* different from what he performed on Idol though?? There are certainly some swoony ballads, a few Maroon 5 type songs, and new wave-alt stuff that is reminiscent of “Lovesong”.

I agree, A.D.D. isn’t so “out there” that people wouldn’t recognize that it’s Blake. Maybe people expected that everything he did would be just like what he did on AI (covers) — that’s what is familiar. And also, they aren’t seeing him every week on their TVs.

I wish he could promote a soft song like this that would attract a general audience.

He was the STAR of Top 24 night with that Keane song. JMHO.

Thanks for posting that link and bringing back that wonderful memory. I so agree….he captured my heart that night. That was my favorite performance of his. When he looked into that camera…I was a puddle of goo :wub_tb:

I also wish he could promote a soft song like that to attract a general audience. I think he needs to do that first and then once people are hooked, show his different styles. But first he needs to play it safer IMHO.

That was the night I got hooked as well. I wasn’t expecting it and after he was finished I was just like “Woah! He is really good!” I’ve been hooked ever since.

Since it is looking like BA is loosing steam *scratches head*, I noticed over at AOL that HMW is the most viewed session is the last sixty days. It has over 13k, where BA had around 3k. I’m thinking this needs to be the next single.

    Most Viewed (60 days)
    ‘How Many Words’ (AOL Sessions

  33. 33 sue Jan 22nd, 2008 at 1:51 pm

Thanks Anne for reminding me about that performance. I love the HMW performance at the the AOL session. I had to go see it 3 more times, lol.

    http://music.aol.com/video/how-many-words-aol-sessions/blake-lewis/2035101

HMW should definitely be the next single, they need to get it out soon. It’s such a better song to sing to and people can relate to it. It’s really catchy. It’s my second favorite song on the album. :)

  34. 34 LD Jan 22nd, 2008 at 3:16 pm

Oh yes! Thanks for the reminder - that’s such an awesome performance. I love it! Also, the photos on the side are pretty cool too. There’s a couple of great shots of KJ as well!
