With Break Another going for adds tomorrow, we will hopefull see these number really start shooting up:)

    I think so too.
He is doing pretty well actually for the song not being released to all stations.
Every week he has been climbing up slowly but steady. He was 68 and now he is 60. That’s pretty good, for now.
Hopefully in two weeks it will be a Top 40 hit.

  3. 3 Bouffe Nov 19th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

I’m so excited for the song going for adds tomorrow. I hope this means radio stations in Canada will start to play him more often. He’s been playing on this one station here - hopefully now it’ll all explode!

  4. 4 Pam Nov 19th, 2007 at 2:02 pm

If you think about it, 60 is pretty darn good considering where the song was when it debuted on Mediabase. Finally, B is going to get some well deserved promo and with the song going for adds officially tomorrow, things could really start to pick up. I just heard “Tattoo” for the first time on the local HAC station here about an hour ago. The Top 40 station already has it in regular rotation. In fact, last week I heard Apologize on that same HAC station for the first time also. So, sometimes songs don’t take off and play everywhere right away. It just takes time and I think we are all figuring that out now. lol

You remember during the tour, a writer for the Houston Chronicle got first dibs on part of Blake’s’ CD? Well, I emailed him last night and told him that you know Blake’s CD was out and stuff. Any who, he replied back and said he got to listen to the entire album, and explained that it was hot, like any of us had doubts.

Here is a commentary previewing “Break Anotha”

    November 16, 2007
Idol’s Blake Lewis unleashes Break Anotha

American Idol six winner Jordin Sparks releases her self-titled debut disc Tuesday, and new single Tattoo is already floating up the charts.

But as on the show, runner-up Blake Lewis is closing the gap. He releases his major-label effort, Audio Day Dream, Dec. 4

First single Break Anotha was co-written by One Republic’s Ryan “Alias” Tedder and goes to radio this week. I was a fan of Lewis’ sound throughout his Idol run, and this is (thankfully) exactly what he should sound like: a pop-fueled blast of personality and, yes, a few beatboxing riffs.

Think a bit of Maroon 5 — with the charisma chip reinserted.

Other guests on Audio Day Dream include Lupe Fiasco and Idol finalist Chris Richardson, who co-wrote What’cha Got 2 Lose?

Lewis describes his sound as “2000-’80s.” He even gave me a preview in July when the Idols tour visited Houston.

    Butet,

That’s a great review of the CD! Sometimes it takes people time to come around. :wink_wp:

  7. 7 Anne Nov 19th, 2007 at 5:18 pm

    Thanks for sharing that Butet:)

  8. 8 dani Nov 19th, 2007 at 6:07 pm

    yay Blake!!!

  9. 9 Michelle Nov 19th, 2007 at 7:02 pm

Thanks Butet! glad the guy liked it :)

To be technical, the song HAS been released to all stations. Tomorrow is just its’ impact date - in other words, when the label will start the push to get stations to play it. All stations *should* have it, it’s just their choice whether or not to play it.

  11. 11 Anne Nov 19th, 2007 at 8:41 pm

All stations *should* have it, it’s just their choice whether or not to play it.

So I guess right now stations are choosing not to play the song. I guess I liked the idea that either the stations did not have the single or could not play it yet.

I still think the song has hit potential, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  12. 12 robbo Nov 19th, 2007 at 8:41 pm

Maybe the push for Blake has been held back a little by Idol’s PTB to favor Jordin, considering her album’s up first.
I hate all the jabs that Idolator is taking at Blake.

  13. 13 Butet Nov 19th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

    Your Welcome guys!
And I see, I have a typo. It shouldn’t be Blake’s CD rather Blake’s single. But I think you all already knew that.

Tomorrow, I shall have JUSTICE! Justice shall be served to both Blake and his fans in HOUSTON!

  14. 14 Laura Nov 19th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

So I guess right now stations are choosing not to play the song. I guess I liked the idea that either the stations did not have the single or could not play it yet.

Different stations have different policies for new music. When I called my Top 40 station, I was told that they couldn’t play anything outside of Top 40. Break Anotha isn’t in the Top 40…yet. So, I’m going to have to rely on my Hot AC station to get some spins of Break Anotha in until it hits the Top 40. Right now, there really isn’t a large audience requesting Break Anotha, because it’s really just the Blakers and/or those following Blake close enough to know that he currently has a single out, even though the label hasn’t started its big promotional push just yet.

Just because Blake isn’t getting spins right this minute doesn’t mean that stations are turning their nose up at him. Some stations stick very firmly to the playlist that the program director has given them, so things might not change until Break Anotha has the label behind him actively promoting Break Anotha and ADD. That’s where the impact date (tomorrow!) comes in…look for Arista to start pushing Break Anotha and ADD, as well as Blake, into the spotlight just a bit more.

Think of it as if you were the DJ. Would you waste valuable airtime on a song that very few, if any, people in your area were requesting over a song that has numerous requests throughout your shift? Probably not, unless things started heating up regarding a particular song…which is what Arista will be trying to do now.

  15. 15 music4me Nov 19th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

This reviewer has come up with the most spot-on description yet.

  16. 16 Pam Nov 19th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

I have to agree with what Laura is saying, especially this last paragraph. I’m sure it gets really tiring for DJ’s to hear requests for a song from just a handful vs. a song that tons of people are requesting that currently has top 40 status and when you think about it, which one are they more likely to play? LOL

I have to give Arista kudos for their promotion of Blake so far. If you are looking at the advertisement banners on the internet, occasionally you will see that infamous Arista banner with Blake’s pic that most of us are familiar with by now popping up all over the web at various times. So, I have to say the label is doing it’s job.

  17. 17 r Nov 19th, 2007 at 11:03 pm

Why hasn’t Ryan Seacrest interviewed Blake on his radio yet? Now I feel very bad that break anotha did not go higher in its first week. Where did those fans who came to AI concerts for Blake go? This does not make sense! The Blaker girls alone should have pushed the single into top 20 or something.

  18. 18 Nic Nov 20th, 2007 at 3:17 am

I know for a fact that some radio stations won’t even play a single until the label pushes the song for adds. No, not all stations, but some of them for sure.

Remember, Jordin’s song hardly got any airplay for TWO MONTHS and now it’s moving up the charts so I’m not going to fret about it just yet. Plus wasn’t the impact date for Jordin’s “Tattoo” well after it was released to radio, as in several months later? She didn’t receive significant airplay UNTIL the impact date. Just sayin’….

    R,

to be honest, some of those younger Blaker Girls may not even know B has a single out or have moved on to something else. In order for Blake to do well he really has to capture a portion of the population that is NOT an Idol fan. That’s exactly what people like Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood did, thus their multi million selling CD’s. I actually think he has a good shot of doing just that, since his musical style seems to fit in with what’s on the radio nowadays.

  19. 19 Pam Nov 20th, 2007 at 9:43 am

Here are the morning Mediabase stats for BA:

On the quick cut info chart BA is now up to 270 spins.

    HAC 4
    POP 263

BA has slipped 1 notch to #61 on the Mediabase chart but it now has 259 spins.

  20. 20 maracaibo Nov 20th, 2007 at 10:18 am

    Oh man!
Now I am worried.. The song slipped back to #61. Why can’t it just take off to the 50’s at least? Bummer.
I really hope all the radio adds help him chart higher this week.

The song is so great. *scratches head*
Also, I don’t understand how the song is ranked so low on I-Tunes. It should be doing better, but maybe a lot of his younger fans don’t even know the song is there.
I am praying that all this push from Arista and the music video helps propel the single.

  21. 21 Anne Nov 20th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

R, I’m with you on this one. Where did all of his fans go? I’m not all that concerned with the mediabase numbers, it has only been two weeks since the song was released. I am confused why the song has not been played on Seacrest’s show though.

The song is so great. *scratches head*

maracaibo you are so right. The song has pretty much received great reviews. I guess all we can do now is wait and see what happens.

  22. 22 Nic Nov 20th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Well, as I said before, some of the tween fans have probably moved onto something else. The other problem is those tweens don’t have the ability to purchase the song on iTunes!! LOL. Perhaps their moms will be buying the CD in the stores when it comes out.

I just can’t get too freaked out yet, things take time. Daughtry’s first single didn’t get tons of airplay right off the bat and we know how that turned out. Yes, there’s no guarantee Blake’s single will be a huge hit, but there’s also no guarantee it’ll flop either.

  23. 23 Pam Nov 20th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

I’ve seen some of these kids posting at various places, one kid in particular, that agreed to to chores to earn the money to buy BA on i-tunes. Nic is right, these kids don’t have the money to purchase the song in most cases unless their parents do lend them the money or they earn it by doing chores as I mentioned, and as she said too, some of them probably have moved on to something else. Kids can be very fickle when it comes to what’s hot and what’s not. lol

some fans such as myself are waiting for the CD on 12/4..I plan to buy 3.. one for the office, home and car…so don’t give up hope..if the songs are catchy and sexy like the two I’ve heard, he’ll be a hit

    Joyce,

This is true. A lot of the fans will wait till 12/4 to buy the CD. The fans that truly appreciate B’s music will support him that day no matter what and buy the CD. I truly believe that.

  26. 26 maracaibo Nov 20th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

I know. I will be one of them.
But.. you have to realize he needs to gain fans outside AI and the only way to do that successfully is to have a well played song on the radio.

So I am still hoping the song takes off next week after today’s radio adds. Let’s cross fingers.

Oh no! I am not throwing the towel just yet!
I still think he will be very successful in the long run. I am just a bit impatient I guess.
I want to see results soon.

I’m sorry if you thought I meant that you were. I guess we all want to see instant results soon because naturally we are human. :wink_wp:

  30. 30 Lisa Nov 20th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Um, this is the first day the song is impacting radio. It’s a little premature to “throw in the towel”. I hope you guys weren’t expecting BA to suddenly just start getting played on every single station today and shoot up all over the place? It simply doesn’t work like that and sometimes labels give certain stations orders not to play a song until a certain time. When a song officially impacts that can sometimes mean the official push is happening in a more behind the scenes way. They may want Blake to start hitting some stations for interviews to kick off a debut on a certain station. I’m 90% sure this is the case with NY’s Z100. Radio interviews are a form of payola. Instant results is not something that’s realistic.

  31. 31 Pam Nov 20th, 2007 at 6:46 pm

I need to readjust that quick cut info I gave you this morning. Sorry guys. lol It’s one little part I left out.

Here is the quick cut info again, (edited) lol

BA of course was up to 270 spins.

    HAC 4
    POP 263
    RHY 3

That last line I just typed in was what I left out this morning. :wink_wp:

  32. 32 Crystal Nov 20th, 2007 at 8:46 pm

Hmmm….just called my evening DJ to see if she could fit BA into her requests tonight. She said she could do it. They did play it on the Bump It or Dump It last week. Then I heard it a couple days later. Fortunately, my station is Idol-friendly. I’ve even heard Clay on here recently.

  33. 33 Crystal Nov 21st, 2007 at 12:04 am

HeeHeeHee, when this DJ played the song, she said, “here’s for The Blaker Girls…” I took a look at another local Top 40’s playlist, and it turned out that they had also played it about the same time. I’d requested it there early on but the DJ never replied.

SOOOO….definite change for the better in just one day here.

  34. 34 Pam Nov 21st, 2007 at 12:45 am

HeeHeeHee, when this DJ played the song, she said, “here’s for The Blaker Girls…”

No hiding that was there Crystal? hehehe!

Ok guys, when I post his Mediabse rank, don’t get upset. Just realize that yesterday was the start of the radio “push” if you will.

Here are the Mediabase rankings for BA:

On the quick cut info chart, Blake is now up to 277 spins.

    4 HAC
    268 POP
    5 RHY

Blake is now ranked at #63 on the Mediabase chart with 263 spins.

    i-tunes overall: #96
    i-tunes pop: #26

  36. 36 Sherry Nov 22nd, 2007 at 3:45 am

The numbers don’t upset me half as much as they confuse me. Seems as if the radio push is more of a nudge (in the wrong direction).

Still hoping things will get better.
    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  37. 37 Pam Nov 22nd, 2007 at 10:20 am

The numbers don’t upset me half as much as they confuse me. Seems as if the radio push is more of a nudge (in the wrong direction).

    Sherry,

um no, not true. Airplay for Jordin started off very similar like this back in late August until the push began. In fact Tattoo was not getting a lot of response at that time, but once the push began, the single took off! As Lisa has been telling everyone over and over and I have to admit I’m guilty of this myself, I think most of us thought when the big push came that we would see big changes automatically and in reality, that really isn’t the way it works and even now I’m beginning to see that for the first time. Sherry, I can assure one thing, and that is that Blake is getting promo. I know we’ve all been nervous about all of this, and that’s natural, but most of his promo for the single and the album won’t be kicking into high gear into next month. Just give it time and I think things might start looking a bit different for the better. :smile1_tb:

It’s better for Blake to move up the charts nice and slow, then move up too quick only to fall right back down.

Here are the morning Mediabase #’s for BA and they look much better today:

On the quick cut info chart, BA is now up to 290 spins.

    HAC 4
    POP 279
    RHY 7

On the Mediabase chart, BA has moved up 2 this morning to #61 with 273 spins with 27 stations playing BA.

  38. 38 Pam Nov 22nd, 2007 at 10:48 am

Here are the i-tunes rankings before I forget.

    i-tunes (overall): #102

It is nice to see BA move on up the charts:) I believe in the next week or two it well really take off!

    Anne,

With all the promo and marketing it sounds like B will get, I think BA has a good chance of taking off too. It’s just a matter time. :wink_wp:

  43. 43 Pam Nov 25th, 2007 at 9:52 am

Here are the morning Mediabase #’s for BA:

  44. 44 maracaibo Nov 25th, 2007 at 11:53 am

Pam, I think you meant he moved up to #57.

    Yay!
Finally Blake is in the 50’s! Slowly and steady wins the race, I still believe that after he does some major market radio interviews he will chart even higher. Crossing fingers.

Apparently the radio adds are starting to work. I hope it keeps up.

  45. 45 Pam Nov 25th, 2007 at 2:10 pm

Pam, I think you meant he moved up to #57.

oops! Yes, I did. Thank you. Sorry guys.

  46. 46 Pam Nov 25th, 2007 at 7:04 pm

Guys, the news gets even better with the afternoon Mediabase report!

BA is now up 1 to #56 with 321 spins!

  47. 47 Anne Nov 25th, 2007 at 8:57 pm

Pam I saw that it went up again. Yeah! Slow and steady wins the race, I hope:)
