Don’t forget to vote for Blake on the musiqtone poll. They seem to have started the votes over again, but based on the last numbers, Blake now shows up in the little pictures on the top (the top 10). He was number 4. It’s hard going against those darn Jonas Brothers. LOL.

  2. 2 newduck Jul 27th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

Bringing over a pic I hadn’t see before. Look, no cherry blossoms, so it’s a bit old, but new to me.

follow done on the left side right before he lists his music tastes of Kenny Rogers and KMFDM in the same list…go figure.

Top 10 is awesome!! Congrats to Blake!! It looks like he had a blast at his birthday bash. Hopefully we get some pics from Big D soon.

  4. 4 Nikki Jul 28th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

Some more birthday fun. Idol Bored put up a few new videos from Blake’s b’day bash. Also, some great pics and a recap of the party here.

And yay for # 8!! That is awesome news! :clap_tb:

  5. 5 Kasia Jul 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

I do hope the song will continue to move up. It looks like it is climbing slowly but steadily.

An interesting article that I stumbled on. Not about Blake but about Darude and him becoming an ambassador for the UK for Dance4Life charity. We know that Blake and Darude recorded a track for this charity. I wonder if during Darude’s appearance in November, this track might be presented. Just throwing it out so we can speculate and keep looking for more information. :cool1_tb:

in and out on vacation…catching up but still able to vote on musiqtone..

love this: Whether Blake Lewis has a mainstream record deal or not, he is still here making music and always will be. StarShine had the pleasure to watch Blake in action. It was just Blake, some instruments, and sound machines on stage in the
Canal Room. He controlled the sound and played every instrument himself. When he wasn’t actually playing anything, his
mouth was. Blake puts a fresh spin on a classic style of music.

putting a fresh spin on a classic style of music…that’s what he’s all about! love it…not all these karoke wannabes

I did sign his card..but no pic..birthdays are so much fun..wasn’t it nice that he celebrated it with family and fans who appreciate his music..love the statement thanking Dad for having sex with mom!!!!!!!too too cute..

  9. 9 joyce Jul 29th, 2008 at 10:32 am

my goodness, he had enough mousse in the hair to stop a hurricane!

  10. 10 Bully Jul 29th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

    Heh! :-)

Joyce–the Starshine interview that said all that you quoted? I think that describes his show now to a “T”, the niche he’s carved out for himself more or less. Interesting, to see it laid out like that. I thought it was a really good article, and complimentary too.

  11. 11 Kasia Jul 29th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

I missed that part from the article at first.

What song would Blake Lewis dedicate to his fans?
“Thank You” by Boyz II Men
“I love that arrangement! That’s a throwback to my a cappella and beat boxing.”

I believe this is the song that Blake wanted to dedicate to his fans. :biggrin_wp:

A video of Common Market with Blake Lewis (beatboxing). It must have been a recent event that Blake was in. It says at the Paramount for Matisyahu. Isn’t he a reggae performer?

  13. 13 Vicki Jul 29th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Kasia, there were a couple of comments on B’s myspace that sounded like he did some kind of performance on the 28th. There was nothing listed on his schedule so maybe it was a guest appearance?

  14. 14 Kasia Jul 29th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Thanks Vicki. I think mystery is solved. :wink1_tb: Common Market lists this event on their myspace. It was indeed on 8/28 and Common Market was opening or special guest for Matisyahu.

Someone over at BLMM said that she was on the plane, and HMW was #4 on the top 10 most listened to music!!

  16. 16 EndOfTheWorld Jul 29th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Someone over at BLMM said that she was on the plane, and HMW was #4 on the top 10 most listened to music!!

Hee….maybe Blake should be selling his CDs on the planes! :laughing_tb:

  17. 17 jenlar Jul 29th, 2008 at 11:24 pm

Matisyahu is an interesting artist. He toured with 311 last year. He does Jewish Reggae, which is better heard than explained. I had never heard his music before but loved him and downloaded from itunes the next day. The crowd loved him, too. He gained a lot of fans touring with 311. That’s a gig that would be perfect for Blake.

Check out some of his music!

  18. 18 newduck Jul 30th, 2008 at 11:22 am

The touring thing is interesting. I think Blake would have to change his show quite a bit to tour with a bigger name, especially if that takes his show out of the smaller club venues. 311 tours in larger arenas and outdoor arenas, so I’m not sure that is a good mix for B. I’m not even sure music or fan wise it would be a good mix. I would need to think hard to decide who would be a good mix for B. He’s sort of a paradox, which makes it difficult to choose a good tourmate.

I’m all for his tour being in clubs, where he headlines, and him staying away from the larger venues that Jordin is hitting with her tourmates. I don’t think his best would be showcased well in the larger places.

  19. 19 Bully Jul 30th, 2008 at 1:01 pm

Hey newduck– good thoughts, all. Very articulate.
Personally, I think if he does a small tour, it will have to be someone with either his hiphop sensibilities, or someone more jazzy. I would prefer him to grow more in the jazzy/ambient side of things, and use his crooner’s voice dammitt. He seems pretty self-involved right now, and wanting to stretch out and do what feels good, whatever it is. I wonder about a tour while he’s still so formative.

Going on a tour with someone who was a good influence would be a very good thing for him, IMO. It would help him build an identity, inside himself too. He needs that, before he can really be held up for more.

  20. 20 Vicki Jul 30th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

According to Ken Barnes, B’s sales stayed at 300 this week.

  21. 21 EndOfTheWorld Jul 31st, 2008 at 9:55 pm

Does anyone have a WireImage account where they can view videos? I found these pictures out on their site, and it says you can Preview the video, but I don’t have an account (you have to pay a monthly fee). It sounds like Blake was in L.A. on 7/17. Some of the captions are interesting below the pictures. One said something about him turning down Broadway?

  22. 22 Kasia Jul 31st, 2008 at 10:20 pm

EOTW, great find. I read the titles of the vidoes. Really very interesting. I wonder where are they going to be presented.

  23. 23 newduck Jul 31st, 2008 at 10:26 pm

OOhhh what Broadway did he turn down…inquiring minds!

  24. 24 Theresa Jul 31st, 2008 at 10:28 pm

VERY good find. im tempted to make an account to watch them. hehe (: i wonder what the turning on Broadway thing is about. and i love how blake’s face expression changes in each picture preveiw. haha. :D

  25. 25 music4me Jul 31st, 2008 at 10:39 pm

    Such a tantalizing find, EOTW!

and i love how blake’s face expression changes in each picture preveiw.

Yes, his expressions seem to reflect his reactions to the questions.

    Broadway??!!??

ETA: There were some posts earlier about Matisyahu. I got one of his CDs last year and really like it. He combines music, message, and method into an interesting sound. There is room for out-of-the-box music.

  26. 26 EndOfTheWorld Aug 1st, 2008 at 1:08 am

It is frustrating not being able to see the videos!!!! UGH! Here are all the captions:

Blake Lewis on how important it is to play your own instruments or write your own songs.

Blake Lewis on how someone can get involved with Blake Lewis Music.

Blake Lewis on how the need for distribution by major record labels are no longer needed, and his feelings towards not being released in London.

Blake Lewis on if being released from a major record label is a blessing.

Blake Lewis on if Blake’s goal is to be an enduring artist and his plan on accomplishing it.

Blake Lewis on if there was resentment felt by “American Idol” Opening doors in comparison to other old school artist.

Blake Lewis on the connection Blake is able to have with his fans through the web.

Blake Lewis on turning down “Broadway” due to a bigger picture in mind for his career.

Blake Lewis on what’s commercially available for Blake’s Music.

Blake Lewis on whether “American Idol” serves as a double edge sword in promotions as an artist.

  27. 27 Bully Aug 1st, 2008 at 9:41 am

I would really be curious to see the answers to some of those questions. Today on GMA they are featuring RENT, and one can’t help but wonder how awesome that would be, for Blake to be a part of something like that, eh? :-) ah well.

M4M– I really like the idea of music-message-method in an appealing package. It’s one of the reasons I am such a big tobyMac fan! For me, he pushes my envelope settings of hip-hop and even rap influences, but I find the more I hear, the more I want to hear. Guilt-free enjoyment.
    heh!

  28. 28 EndOfTheWorld Aug 1st, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Hot Dance Club Play update. HMW slipped a little to #10 from #8.

  29. 29 jenlar Aug 3rd, 2008 at 3:17 pm

This is completely random, but does anyone know what video this picture comes from? I *know* that I’ve seen it, and I’m pretty sure that it’s something that I put up on youtube a long time ago. It was just a tiny clip of it on one of those tabloid shows, I think?

    Hey guys!
So this weekend one of my local radio stations is having a “No Refusal Weekend”,
they said that no matter what song you request, they have to play it. So I am so excited, I’m going to request one of Blake’s songs, probably HMW, but just wondering what you guys think I should request???

  31. 31 EndOfTheWorld Aug 3rd, 2008 at 6:50 pm

    TWO-ER!!!!!!!!

Nora, if they have it, I would request Know My Name.

  32. 32 Kasia Aug 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 pm

That is fantastic news EOTW. I am anxiously awaiting the names of the cities on the east coast.

  33. 33 EndOfTheWorld Aug 3rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm

It is fantastic news Kasia, although I hope he does two-er on the West Coast. I haven’t seen him yet. :down_tb:

  34. 34 Vicki Aug 3rd, 2008 at 10:45 pm

Damn!!! You East Coasters are lucky! I am keeping my fingers crossed that they make it to the midwest.

  35. 35 EndOfTheWorld Aug 3rd, 2008 at 11:21 pm

Damn!!! You East Coasters are lucky!

Yeah! Damn you East Coasters!!!!! :laugh_tb:

  36. 36 newduck Aug 4th, 2008 at 12:12 am

    East Coaster here…yippee.

I personally think the Seatleites are the lucky ones though. Can you imagine running into the local mall and following him around while he shops….not that I would follow him around..just sayin’

And request How Many Words. That could still have legs!

  37. 37 Bully Aug 4th, 2008 at 9:53 am

The letter from Johnny Nails was fun as usual– love that he is always wanting to share with us a story from the road, and is so grateful.
    :-) He makes me smile.

I have no idea where Blake would play here in the 40mile radius. Nashville and/or Louisville is what I would expect, and lord knows Nashville is FULL of smaller venues. It’s not all country music in Nashvegas, so maybe there’s a cool place like House of Blues or even smaller. I’m sure there is something that would be a good fit. Spouse knows a guy who works in the music scene here– maybe I’ll have Spouse ask him what he thinks.

BTW– Jordin’s video “One Step at a Time” is in the Top20 at VH1. I blame the ultra-cute lime green heels.

  38. 38 Kasia Aug 4th, 2008 at 10:09 am

A good sound quality video of Jealousy from Birthday Bash.

An interesting newsday article about their opinions on the top 20 American Idol Alum singles. Hmmm….I bet Blake is in there (twice actually)….but what songs are they?????? *tease tease*

  40. 40 EndOfTheWorld Aug 4th, 2008 at 10:58 am

I blame the ultra-cute lime green heels.

Hey, Johnny already admitted that they have some Girliscious clothes left over from the bus. Maybe there were some green high heels in there. His cute little hat, some heels. I’m for Blake doing whatever it takes to “move those units!” Besides, I think green is definitely his color. :laugh_tb:

  41. 41 Bully Aug 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Heh! Silly, those are the shoes Jordin’s wearing, not Johnny!;-)
(Altho, can you imagine the looks he got in a Denny’s at 1AM??)

  42. 42 newduck Aug 5th, 2008 at 2:20 am

LOL. I was wondering how Johnboy got lime green shoes?

  43. 43 Bully Aug 5th, 2008 at 9:27 am

    Goodmorning, TeamPlaiders–
I was talking to Spouse about the Venue question for Blake, in Nashville this morning. He might feel around a little for smaller ideas today, but he did mention a venue I hadn’t really thought about– The Wildhorse Saloon. He says that alot of rock groups have been playing there the past year or so, that wouldn’t be able to fill up something like the Sommett Center. There really isn’t any other place, and it’s a decent size– about 1500-2000people.

I imagine it would depend on the numbers he expected to turn out.Maybe he’ll try a smaller place like The Gibson Guitar lounge, again. Jason Mraz did that a couple times, and theRiver likes that alot. I think capacity is only like 300 people tho, and he packed the house for the Canal Room, same size.

The only drawback with concerts being either at the Factory or at The Wildhorse is, they are expensive, like $50. Just thinking aloud here, for those speculating.

Anyone familiar with BlogTalkRadio Today? Here is a link. Blake is supposed to have an interview at 3 pm ET.

    http://blog.blogtalkradio.com/2008/08/05/whats-going-on-august-5-2008/

And an interview he had a few weeks ago about his favorite tv shows along with a clip, just a preview.

  45. 45 joyce Aug 5th, 2008 at 10:20 am

nora - did your local radio staiton play your requests and if so, which song????????

WHoa - so excited - finally a tour and hopefully somewhere near West Chester, K o P or Phila! yes, if, so I’m dragging a few friends to the event

question? how will this be advertised? since he doesn’t havea label? who then ?? in the meantime when actual locations are known and dates , then time to post everywhere so that as many people will be aware of the shows i.e. official, myspace, you tube, idolbored of course but on the internet as much exposure as possible I know I will call radio stations especially XM even though they have not played his songs but still talk to them…etc….just thinking this has to a success for him!!!!!

  46. 46 newduck Aug 5th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

    Joyce,
He doesn’t have a label, but still has other parts of the “entourage” still in place. Marketing can be done by management team, tour assistants (was Lucas part of 19 recording or management?)and PR people, so he still has representation able to work on that. He’s not marketing an album at this point, but touring as an artist, so the label doesn’t really have anything to do with it. I would love to see him sell the album at the shows, but not sure how that would work without label supoort. Many artists tour without label connections and the word gets out there.

  47. 47 Skipperdjl Aug 5th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

    Hey there teamsters,
How are you all doing. Work is tying me up, but I got a chance to visit with Blake and try to gain some info to share. Most you already know that the tour will begin in October cause Johnny told us. I don’t think Blake has made any announcements about that yet, but he is happy it’s finally going to be off the ground. He’s still busy doing things on his house and working ont he next record. He love his music. There’s always music playing at his house.

I’ve been voting on the musiqtone polls. You can vote and hit backspace and rapid vote. Lets all get out there and get your votes in and move him up the poll… I don’t know what effect, if any, it has on his exposure, but it can’t hurt. I’m hearing songs on and in various venues, store, planes, off beat radio stations. When I listen to the radio, I quickly change to CD’s because there are few songs that impress me as much as most of ADD.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the summer. To all the teacher and education people I chat with, I hope you have enjoyed your summer and are ready deal with all the little monsters again this school year. You know I mean monsters in the good way. They are, after all, what life is about. And if you are raising one, two or more, good luck, they could grow up to be beatboxers.
    Hugs to all, d

  48. 48 Bully Aug 5th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Heh! Thanks BigD! I do have a couple myself back at school, and they are really good girls. I’m blest. They might be artists or bakers or candlestick makers, but I doubt they’ll be beatboxxers! LOL.

Thanks for coming and chatting today.

  49. 49 jenlar Aug 5th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Joyce, Newduck- Jamaica from B.L.Army called Blake last week and they had a nice long chat . He mentioned two-er, but didn’t spill on the actual schedule so don’t even ask lol. B.L.Army are promoting his two-er at the AI concerts, an idea that Blake thinks is very clever, and we’re still accepting volunteers to help with the teaming.
