Thanks for the vids. I watched them all again on my DVR last night before I went to bed.

Which one is my fav? That’s a hard question.

I thought Blake rocked Roxanne. I loved the reggae feel to it, and he sounded great. I loved the one handed mic thing he had going. I loved his outfit.

This Love was awesome. He sounded great, and I definitely think he did Maroon 5 justice. I love that song, and I was not the least bit disappointed in his rendition. I’m so glad he got that cleared.

When I Get You Alone - oh man. This totally unleashed the fangirl, which had already started to immerge during This Love. :wub_tb: That was so hot, my tv nearly caught fire. Loved his voice, loved his outfit, and loved hearing him say When I get you alone over and over. I’ve never heard that song before, but Blake totally sold me on it. No way Robin’s version could be even 1/3 as hot as Blake’s.

So I don’t know about a fav. I thought Blake did a classic proud, rocked Maroon 5, and turned on the heat on the last one. I loved them all. Our homeskillet did us proud. He put it ALL out there. I totally admire him for taking a risk. The other 2 did not, and came off as completely boring next to Blake. I so hope he stays, but if he doesn’t, he went out on such a high note.

    OMG!

I actually liked or should I say loved that Robin Thicke song. I didn’t think that was possible.. so I have to say that was my favourite.

Blake was great and if he leaves, he’ll be leaving on a strong note. And I have really no doubt that he has a bright future ahead of him…

    GO TEAM PLAID!

I am really having a very hard time choosing one, I loved all three.
I really liked Roxanne, MAroon 5 was amazing, I think Adam would be very very proud.

ANd what can I say about the Robin Thicke song? He rocked the house. That performance was incredible. He looked amazing.
I really hop ehe gets to be in that finale, but without a doubt Blake will be very successful. If a record label doesn’t sign him, they are crazy.

By the way, my favorite outfit was the Roxanne one, he looked so HOT.
Also there was plaid everywhere! Couldn’t be more happier for him

BLAKE CONGRATS! I am so proud…!

Last night lived up to every bit of the hopes & hype of yesterday’s discussion! First off, three outfits… all rockin’ the PLAID!

Roxanne… has anyone ever looked more in his element than Blake going all retro rock star for Roxanne? The vocals were spot-on, and his performance was completely energetic. Simon was right… it’s hard to sing that song and not do a Sting impersonation. Blake brought something fresh to it!

This Love… Blake sang Maroon 5. Life is complete. I shall die a happy, happy fangirl. His voice is so suited to this type of music! He’s smooth (duh!) and made this song top 40 uber-hit his own.

When I Get You Alone… You hear that sound? that’s the sound of the Blake Lewis fandom losing its collective 5h!t ! Second only to Time of the Season, that was *the* hottest performance of the season. This one got Paula all messed up with the rest of us. I’m not sure what brand of crack Randy was smoking last night, but this was the best performance of the night.

OMG guys! Won’t it be great to hear “Blake… you… are… SAFE” tonight! I hopehopehope that we do! If he does make it to the final two, between 24 & Heroes finales and AI I’m gonna need to be medicated! :jittery_tb:

GO BLAKE! SAVE THE BEATBOXER, SAVE THE WORLD! :clap_tb:

Something from Slezak, from a link at mj’s. It shall make you happy! He thinks that it will be a Blake/Melinda finale?!?!?!??!!! :jittery_tb:

    From the article:

Still, it would be folly to suggest Blake had earned himself a spot in the final two just by avoiding the dreaded do-over. Instead, he did it by choosing ”When I Get You Alone,” an obscure single from Robin Thicke’s commercially ignored debut CD, nailing its tricky rhythms, adding an appropriate splash of his scat-cat signature, and delivering it with the kind of endearingly lecherous vibe that, when he’s on, reminds you that Blake isn’t a contender only on the Idol stage but also in the world of Justin, Usher, and the aforementioned Mr. Thicke (who, I might add, was stupendously bizarre during his Bon Jovi-week performance).

edited because a link is a useful thing

This Love… Blake sang Maroon 5. Life is complete. I shall die a happy, happy fangirl.

:lol_tb: Jenlar I so love you.

I think you all know that I did NOT want Blake to sing a Maroon 5 song. I was very passionate about it even.

So my favorite performance last night? Yeah, definitely “This Love”. He really pulled it off. His beatboxing was well placed, his voice was great, and the whole thing just WORKED. He definitely got the best song from the producers.

Oh, and for any of you Maroon 5 fans out there, you can listen to the full album, to be released next Tuesday, here. Yes - I am pimping them! The fangirl will be out in full force tonight when they appear on my tv. :blush_tb:

Thanks Sarah! I am a huge Maroon 5 fan myself..
I can’t wait to buy their album next week. :thumbup_tb:

Y’all, I don’t know which one I liked the best. They were all great. I’m going to have to rewatch a few times to decide. I have to say, I loved the knee slide at the end of Roxanne. Call me a dork, but I did!

I’m so freaking happy no matter what happens tonight. I’m so proud of our homeskillet! Yeah, I want Blake in the finale. He proved last night that he was in it to win (as if there was any doubt!). We’ll see what America has to say about that.

I can’t wait to follow Blake’s career and get an original CD!

    Go Team Plaid!

I’m going to be nervous all day until we know for sure. I just want Blake to make the finals although I’m happy for him no matter what because if he goes home tonight, he goes on a high note.

  10. 10 jenlar May 16th, 2007 at 11:09 am

:lol_tb: Jenlar I so love you.

Ohh Sarah… making me happy with the new Maroon 5! I love you too!

‘Tis a *good* day to be a fangirl. I’m not even trying to hold it in today! My kids were punks yesterday, I lost my mp3 player, and my computer wouldn’t work. Today, tho, my daughter found my mp3 player, I fixed the computer, Sarah shares the new Maroon 5, Slezak loves Blake, and since the kids got sent to bed early last night they are watching AI now (and so am I… again!)

Now… to figure out how to get those songs *on* the newly-found mp3 player!

GO TEAM PLAID!!! GO BLAKE!!! :clap_tb:

No prob ladies. :) I am listening right now. Liking what I’m hearing so far!!!

  12. 12 LoriOH May 16th, 2007 at 11:26 am

I don’t think article was linked. It pretty much sums it up for me. Blake was on fiyah.
    http://blogs.phillyburbs.com/blog.php?p=13770&cat=39

    My favorite excerpt
…He was obviously having a great time up there; and judging solely by Robin Thicke’s performance on AI a few weeks back, probably totally out-sang the original artist. I have not yet listened to Robin Thicke’s version of this song because I just ate dinner and cannot afford to have it end up on my computer keyboard.

I do not like RT, but have Blake’s WIGYA on repeat this morning, loves it!!!

  13. 13 RollTide May 16th, 2007 at 11:38 am

Thanks for the link, Sarah. I love Maroon 5, and can’t wait for their new one. :)

Did anyone see the View this morning? Elizabeth got an email from Blake which made Rosie jealous. :laugh_tb:

I just found this excellent recap from MTV.

They thought Blake knocked it out of the park! They also want Blake to be in the finale but they are not sure what is going to happen.

    MTV
Idol’ Recap: Blake’s Still In It; Melinda Pulls A Paula; Jordin May Pay For Her Big Mouth
Blake knocks it out of the park — and now it’s anyone’s guess who will face off in the finale.

    from philly burbs article:

The Bad: The performance had to end, and we had to listen to Randy be a jackass.

My sentiments exactly. That performance was *perfect*… no room for improvement whatsoever! What is Randy’s deal? Is he like this every year?

  17. 17 Tara May 16th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

They need to replace Randy as a judge. He’s really out of touch this year. Ryan also annoyed me yesterday. Was it necessary to ask the judges who won each round and who should be in the finale? That should be up to the audience. The judges’ comments obviously influence potential voters. Whatever happens tonight, Blake has already won in my book. I’ve been watching this thing for all six seasons, and have never puchased an albumn from any of the contestants. I will be first in line to buy Blake’s CD when it comes out.

Loving the reviews. Thanks for the link.

LoriOH, I’m with you. When I Get You Alone is on rotation on my iPod. I did love the original. It was what made me like Robin Thicke a few years back. His Idol performance just aout killed any love for him - not completely though. Blake really made the song his own. Ditto with This Love. That was an amazing performance.

As far as Roxanne…I have heard countless live versions of Roxanne ove the years. What Blake did to it really wasn’t anything new. Except for the tempo. I really feel he sped it up more than I would have liked. I don’t know how much of that had to do with time constraints, so I’m not sure how to take it. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this one. I think it’ll be awhile before I have a final verdict. I’ll go back and watch it a month from now or something.

A musician friend of mine who is not a Blake fan (not the computer program using one - still waiting on a verdict there) said she liked him last night more than she had in a while. Gave him props for doing the new songs. The other friend I’ve mentioned said a couple of days ago that he deserved to get this far, and he could easily see him in the finale. Both have a great deal of respect for him. Especially for the fact that he promotes the local scene. It just seems that his style of music isn’t their style. They don’t put him down as an artist. For me, that says a lot.

  19. 19 pj May 16th, 2007 at 1:07 pm

I think that the only problem I had with Roxanne were the backing vocals. I guess I’m just not used to them being sung by women.

  20. 20 Erinn May 16th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

yes, pj. You’re not the only one. I also missed Stewart Copeland, but I’m pretty sure only the hard core fans care about that. Have I mentioned that I love him? :smile1_tb:

The RT song When I Get You Alone - Blake truly enjoys putting himself out there on the stage and the joy shows in his delivery and interpretation. It is great to see him sing an indivudual choice again, and not soley constricted by the theme weeks. Overall, I really like Roxanne and This One. The Maroon 5 had a better construction and style that fit Blake’s musical spirit.

Hey Erinn, I think that if a song on AI is rather well-known and the artist is active and is still currently recording and touring, there are too many comparisons to be made. With the judges’ choice of Roxanne, either he sings it close to the original and the comments are “it’s not quite as good as the original, copycat, etc.” and if the arrangement is altered somewhat, they will tear into him. It’s a Catch-22. The 2nd and 3rd songs I think are not as familiar to the general public/producers/judges so he would be more likely to receive much better comments from S,P,R.
