Tacoma, WA - July 27

Update from Sarah: We had a BLAST! Blake was fantastic! The crowd was very responsive to all the performers, but it was most definitely a Blake crowd all the way. The cheering was about 3 times as loud as Tampa… my ears are still ringing. :)

The looping pedals WORKED! and “She Will be Loved” was incredible. I had chills. Each song was different than I’d ever heard it before. It was obvious that Blake was glad to be home, and he was determined to put on a great show for his hometown crowd… and he did not disappoint.

Little tidbit: During the second half, Blake came out wearing a Blue Scholars shirt and wore it for the rest of the show, until the very end. Also, at the end of the Cake duet, he gave a shoutout to local musicians, and made a point to promote supporting them. In fact, he even pointed out that there are always all age clubs, where you can not only listen to the music, but perform as well.

Here’s a little pics teaser for ya. They’re not very high res and my camera is pretty old and cheap (heh.), but at least they can give you a taste of the concert for now. I’ll upload more later. BTW, Cisco was there videoing as was Ethan taking pics (in fact, his head was in several of my pics, heh), so there should be a lot of great media surfacing in the future.

——————————————————————————————

I thought I’d start a post for tonight’s concert early since it’s Blake’s homecoming show! Our very own pj and Sarah will be on the scene, so we have their recaps to look forward to! Have fun ladies. :) And don’t forget, we love to hear reports from our readers, so if you’ve got something to say don’t be shy! Leave your comments here or e-mail us: teamplaid@gmail.com

If you’re going to the show tonight, stop by the KISS 106.1 station and say hi to head Blaker Girls, Kristi and Andrea.

Just for fun, let’s revisit Blake’s Idol homecoming celebration…

Have a great show tonight Bshorty! ♥

It’s mj, and I’ll be posting updates from Sarah…

  • Update (7:38 PST) - HA HA Blake Lewis is dressed as a Pop Tart in the opening!!!  His friend Ethan is up front taking pictures, so there should be some good ones…
  • Update (7:41 PST) - A little girl just gave Sanjaya a rose…
  • Update (7:48 PST) - Blake’s mom is dancing in the aisles to Chris Sligh’s solo…
  • Update (8:01 PST) - Time for Blake!  The whole place is up…

Update (intermission) - I spoke with Sarah on the phone and she tells me:

  • When Blake started to perform the entire audience stood, and stayed standing for the entire performance.  He gave a very heartfelt thankyou to the peeps in his hometown.
  • Blake’s dad wore a black shirt bedazzled with his nickname B shorty.
  • Washington loves them some Sanjaya, too, but Blake took first place in the applause-0-meter tonight.
  • The sound was much better tonight than it was at the beginning of the tour.
  • Gina  was cracking up during her duet with Chris Sligh: ”Thnks Fr Th Mmrs.”
  • Second Half

    • Update (9:02 PST) - Phil Stacey and the girls give Sarah goosebumps singing “America, the Beautiful”.
    • Update (9:02 PST) - The guys number is fantastic! No backing instruments, just the guys playing guitars, keyboards and drums…
    • Update (9:21 PST) - Chris Richardson and Blake did a little beatboxing battle at the end of their duet (Ain’t no Sunshine/Virtual Insanity/Geek In Pink)
    • Update (9:23 PST) - Phil tried his best to crack Gina up during their duet.  He got down on one knee to hug her…
    • Update (9:29 PST) - Sarah is trying to get a picture of Blake, but he won’t look her way…and Melinda Doolittle just reminded everybody that Jordin Sparks is OMG Only!1! 17!11! OMG!
    • Update (9:35 PST) - Melinda sounds even better than she did in Tampa, FL at the beginning of the tour.  How did she not win?  She got huge cheers from the crowd.
    • Update (9:38 PST) - Jordin is finished with one song, and she’s already sucking down a bottle of water…
    • Update (9:49 PST) - Jordin sounds good, but a little strained.  Most folks have been sitting through her set.

      “Update (intermission)…….”
So wait does it mean that Blake didnt perform anything new? or maybe it will be in the second half?

    5. 55 star Jul 27th, 2007 at 11:59 pm

I doubt Blake will do anything new in the second half. The setlist is pretty much…well, set. Melinda didn’t get anything extra in Nashville. As far as I know, Jordin didn’t get any extras in her hometown, either.

You two have some small feet! Thanks for the updates!

      midge,

Tell me about it!:D I was always told that the older I became the harder it would be to find shoes that looked adult enough for me and well, the salespeople were right. LOL

Sounds like a kickass night for Blake (and Sanjaya), how cool for him. Hopefully he had a great time and I’m sure being home is a nice break during this long tour, even if only for a day or two. Can’t wait for recaps/pictures!

    9. 59 star Jul 28th, 2007 at 12:51 am

This is unrelated to the concert, but I found this over at MJ’s. People are saying it comes from USA Today but I can’t find it on their site?

Blake: “I had a meeting with 19 and presented a concept of what I wanted to do and they said, ‘Cool, let’s do it.’ I have seven songs already recorded. I’m writing a lot. I think I’ve had the most fun out of any contestant who’s been on the show.”

(I even refreshed the page and still don’t see it…)

      Star,

It’s on page 3 of Idol headlines for 7/27/07. Chicago-Sally posted it.

Yeah, I see it at MJ’s. Where I don’t see it is on USA Today, which is where it was originally posted.

      n/m I found it.

      Ladies,

Here was the comment from Sligh from the same poster at MJ’s about his album which tells me that after the 90-day clause they are free. He talks about signing with new management.

Chris Sligh: “At the end of August, I’m going to sign with a management company. I was lucky in that my band had a couple or recordings out, so that record labels could see what I could do. I actually had a label endorse me before the show, and the show amped it up a little bit. So I’m lucky to have multiple labels after me right now. I’ll figure out which one is the best for me and hopefully get a record out in January or February. It’s going to be a pop/rock record with some danceable stuff, probably like The Killers meets U2 meets Switchfoot, an interesting hybrid. Very melodic rock. I’ve got what people describe as a soulful voice and hopefully I can play on that.”

Star, I knew I had seen that somewhere. That was dated 7/20 which was last Friday, the day before Blake’s birthday.

    14. 64 star Jul 28th, 2007 at 1:30 am

I think they put the wrong date on it. If you look at the latest entry, it says to check back Friday to see the Idols future plans.

    15. 65 Kelly Jul 28th, 2007 at 1:33 am

Does anyone know how many songs will be on his album? I’m guessing about 13 or so…
Also, any clues on his future singles besides she loves the way? he performed emotional waterfalls too during his hometown visit, so im guessing that could be his 2nd single. I really love dumpty humpty though. :)
anyway, cant wait for the pictures!

    16. 66 Laura Jul 28th, 2007 at 1:34 am

Phil: “I’m moving to Nashville this fall. My term with the Navy is almost up. I have about a week left after my leave period expires. The Navy’s been unbelievable in getting behind this the whole season. I’m singing at the Navy’s birthday celebration in October.

“I’m going to record a country record. I’m not signed. We’re not allowed to sign until our (Idol) contract expires, but we’re free to talk, and I’ve got some different offers on the table that I’ll be looking at and considering. Most of us have already started projects.”

I think that Phil’s quote in that same article tells us a lot about the AI contract and current projects.

On a different note, I’m totally stoked to see what Bshorty dresses up as tomorrow night! :jittery_tb: I’m SO EXCITED!!!!

      Laura,

That does speak volumes. I think this applies to only those who will not be picked up by a Sony/BMG label which is obviously the route that Phil a bunch of the rest will be heading.

      From the seatlle times…

“In a three-minute solo, Lewis demostrated “looping”- “It’s when you beat-box, and then sing over it,” he explained to the audience–that was both entertaining and unbelievable.

      Kl,

Actually, you haven’t done anything wrong. The links are so long sometimes that when you go to add them in, sometimes the link isn’t completely highlighted for you to click on it. Just take your mouse and highlight the link right click on it, click copy and either open a new window or and click on your address bar, then right click, then click paste, and hit return. I hope what I said made sense. LOL

      Nice pics by the way!

    25. 75 maracaibo Jul 28th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

      Sorry about that KI.
Yeah, the links are too long. So you really just have to copy and the paste the whole link in a new window.
You can use CTRL C to copy and CTRL to paste. I hope you can view them.

Very nice pics by the way! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the tips but no matter what I do I still can’t view those pics! I am able to view Sarah’s teaser pics though- thanks a bunch!
