SWBL…OH MY GOD:O!!! I swear B needs more time on stage.

  2. 2 Laura Jul 30th, 2007 at 3:34 pm

B needs his own stage. Nuff said.

I swear I can hear Blake’s dad, Dallas, in that Portland Beatboxing vid shouting something like, “You’re hot!!!”…am I hallucinating?

  3. 3 Pam Jul 30th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

I saw all 4 of these videos this morning from a link at the TWOP forums and SWBL just about killed me!

You know, I definitely agree that Blake should have more stage time… but at the same time, I think “well maybe he shouldn’t”.

He makes the most of his time on stage, giving everyone just enough to whet their appetites (and killing a few fangirls. Hee.). Plus he’s impressing a LOT of people, most of whom can’t wait to buy his cd after hearing him live. That only does good, in my eyes.

    Sarah,

    He’s torturing us! hee

Sarah you make very good points. That is most definitely what he is doing to me, but is it too much to ask for just one more song:)

The beatboxing in Tacoma is also very hot. It is fun to watch the guitar player in the background when Blake starts to beatbox while singing the “Washington” part. Very cool indeed.

Well, in a concert like this, I think, based on their order of placement in the competition, keeping in mind that the winner will obviously get more time, the way stage time is divided up is *pretty* fair. We want more, sure, but that’s where supporting him as a solo artist will come into play.

IIRC, the contestants get paid a flat fee for these concerts. It’s when they’re solo artists that it becomes increasingly important for us to support them on their solo tours.

This concert is important to me because it’s the only time I’ll ever get to see all 10 of them perform together as a group. I’ll have plenty of time in the years to come to get my fill of Blake’s solo work. Right now, I want to focus on enjoying all of them. That’s why I tell people that if they’re going to this concert JUST to see Blake, they’ll be disappointed (even though his set alone is worth the price of admission), simply because while he takes the show into his hands and single-handedly makes it HIS show, it’s not *just* about him.

    Cake is too cute :D

Love those vids, thanks for the link!

Yes Sarah. You are right he is impressing LOTS of people every stop he goes. Even if his stage time is not as long he is keeping his fans wanting much more from him in the future. I’ve heard many people posting how they can’t wait to buy his CD. Even non die hard Blake fans seem to think that his album will be very cool and they will probably buy it.
SWBL Tacoma was definitely amazing! One of his best. Although he is always perfect on that song. I really can’t wait for this album.
NOw if only the label announcement hurries up! Sigh.

Laura - Sorry, not Blake’s Dad. He didn’t make the Portland show, just the Tacoma show. I would have loved if they left KMS - that would have given us more Blake & more Melinda (so her fans would’ve been happy too)!

  11. 11 Anne Jul 30th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Sarah right when I start to go into the whole need.more.B. you are right there to give ma a quick “Snap out of It.” So thanks I needed that. It would be hard to believe though walking away from this concert disappointed because they all seem to be having a great time and most seem to be doing very well. Like I said before, I’m glad they are doing such a great job on the tour, ie., Phil, Gina, Lakisha and Chris R. also, because this season the idols got such a bum rap. When they all are a very talented bunch.

  12. 12 ld Jul 30th, 2007 at 5:37 pm

It still irritates me that some still talk about what a boring Season 6 was & how there was no talent and they can’t wait for Season 7. I personally thought Season 6 was better than most of the others I’ve seen (about 4 years worth) - especially thanks to Blake. I’m not even interested in Season 7. What can I say?

  13. 13 Pam Jul 30th, 2007 at 6:42 pm

I don’t give a flip about season 7 personally unless Blake were to make a guest appearance. Otherwise, I don’t think I’ll be watching.

  14. 14 ld Jul 30th, 2007 at 6:53 pm

These videos are so good I can’t stop playing them over & over. SWBL is awesome! I love that he keeps changing things up & they get better each show!

  15. 15 Michelle Jul 30th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

I agree, I’m ruined on Idol. I don’t think they’ll find another Blake. Back to watching it for trainwreck potential…

I couldn’t have said that better myself!:D I kind of think the show is on it’s last legs anyways. I’m not looking for another Blake because we got him already. :wink_wp:

  17. 17 Kelly Jul 30th, 2007 at 7:52 pm

Did anyone catch what Blake was saying before he took his jacket off in the Blake Beatboxing Portland vid? He was like “its really sweaty on stage something something…. ” I can’t understand it :( He must have said something good to make them all scream like that. Or it was just the jacket :)
Btw- he did the dying bird thing in LA too. Love it.

Yeah, everytime I ask someone if they watched AI season 6, they always assume I’m talking about Sanjaya, not Blake or even Jordin.

  19. 19 star Jul 30th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Thanks for posting these videos, pj. I’ve only had time to watch SWBL so far…and it was gorgeous. ♥

  20. 20 Pam Jul 30th, 2007 at 8:21 pm

” I can’t understand it :( He must have said something good to make them all scream like that.

    Kelly,

It was what he said in the video that made them start screaming about getting sweaty from beatboxing and having to take the jacket off and that’s when the girls went nuts! There was a part of it that was sort of muffled so I didn’t catch all what he actually said. If anyone else did, please do tell!:D

  21. 21 me-ness Jul 30th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

i like how blake points to chris when he says “unoriginal dumb dumbs” and how chris calls blake “the geek with the hair” priceless!

  22. 22 Kelly Jul 30th, 2007 at 10:40 pm

ahh! Love the Cake duet! Especially Blake’s jacket move, the beatbox duel at the end, and the dum dum part. LOL. Thanks for the vids.

  23. 23 Michelle Jul 30th, 2007 at 11:21 pm

I heard him talk about taking clothes off. But I hear what makes me happy :D

TWOP also pointed out that you can hear him sampling Owner of A Lonely Heart around 1:35 in the Portland Beatbox vid…remember that guy who got a chance to listen to Blake’s rough cuts of the album tracks mentioned hearing that?

He shot a record from the sky. And it played Owner of a Lonely Heart. He’s the bestest Idol ever :D

OKay both Blake and Chris have one the finest asses ive ever seen. *blushes wildly*

Blake can sing SWBL to me over and over again, and ill never stop swooning.

  26. 26 LLL Jul 31st, 2007 at 12:08 am

hey all… glad you’re enjoying my videos. :-) i’m thrilled that they came out well and i could share some seriously awesome performances with all of you.

it definitely was a crazy dude sitting near me and not dallas lewis who yelled “you’re hot”. LOL. i was surrounded by some fun people that night, including an unusual number of guys who were genuinely into the show.

i believe blake is saying something about it being hot and sweaty onstage, and about “getting comfortable”. the screaming is mainly caused by him taking off the jacket to reveal that (sub)lime green shirt.

the beatboxing both nights was un-freaking-believable. guh.

OKay both Blake and Chris have one the finest asses ive ever seen.

Ok, Blake’s caboose is magical…I agree, but I must differ with you on CRich’s rear. Honestly, IMO, it’s just not all that great…and the way he walks doesn’t do anything for it either. CRich can charm me all day long with his eyes, smile, stubble, and porno-arms. I’m just not sold on his tushie, tho. Blake…now that boy is built well. :-) And that’s all I’m gonna say about that… *blush/fangirlygiggle* :wub_tb:

I’m totally going through withdrawal cravings! If anybody is able to rip any of these and make them mp3’s, PLEASE let me know! I need me some Bshorty! I’ve found it interesting that since the show, I’ve come back more to watch/listen to the Cake duet (Ain’t No Sunshine and Geek in the Pink are really growing on me…I kinda wish that Blake would sing full length versions of both of them, with CRich along for the ride) and to the guys’ band. I know many of the published reviewers have hated the Crazy/Hey Jude number, but I actually really liked it (along with Bshorty’s cheezy dancing! Yummo!), but kinda wish I could edit out Sanjaya. Don’t mean to be mean, but I could just do without him. Ok…off to watch more vids!

  30. 30 Anne Jul 31st, 2007 at 7:05 pm

Have to agree with Laura on this one, Blake’s caboose is magical indeed. That little tummy is cute too:) I don’t think, IMHO, that CRich has that great of a rear. Great arms, and I do mean great, and a very nice smile. But the way he dances and walks just doesn’t do anything for me. Blake is just all around goodness. I also have to say that the Cake duet is really growing on me. And I do like the way CRich sings Geek in the Pink. It is really cute that he is learning to beatbox too. Nowhere the level of Blake, but still cute just the same. Actually it is just really cool to see these two guys have such a great friendship.

  31. 31 Tasha Jul 31st, 2007 at 11:23 pm

Does it seem to anyone else like Blake follows C Rich around like a puppy dog during Geek in the Pink? Esp in the Idaho video, but I noticed it in the Seattle/Portland ones as well. I realize Blake’s very aware of others when he’s on stage, being an improv musician, and that may be what he’s doing since Geek in the Pink is Chris’s song. I wish Blake had more to do in that medley, which is about 75% Chris, but it’s always impressive how much of a non-diva Blake can be when sharing a stage (vs. what he said before about being a diva with a mic).

I agree with Anne, C Rich doesn’t really move well, other than his bending over with a stomach ache move, but I think he may have beatboxed before. He moves better on the tour, and I think that’s due to Blake. But his versatility makes him seem slightly without a musical identity, like Jordin (I don’t think he’s a Timberlake clone). I’m definitely not a Caker.

  32. 32 Anne Aug 1st, 2007 at 12:25 pm

    Tasha,

I did notice that in the Idaho video…he does seem to shadow CRich in Geek in the Pink. We the beatboxing I’m sure Blake has been teaching him the basics since AI started would be my guess. Again he is know where close to what Blake can do, but it still fun to watch the little bit the two of them together. I’m not a huge CAKE fan either by the way, but I do appreciate their freindship.

  33. 33 Sarah Aug 1st, 2007 at 3:22 pm

I think Chris is a great performer in his own right. He’s been singing and performing pre-AI just like Blake has. This is like the Taylor/Elliott argument last year. Yes, they all learn from each other and become better as they go along. But this is not a case of an “older, wiser, more polished” performer showing someone else the ropes. I’m sure Blake is learning things from Chris too. It’s not just a one way street here.

And Chris had as much stage presence and dance ability when I saw him in the second stop of the tour as he does now, so unless he picked up from Blake REALLY quickly (like, within one concert), I’d say it’s a quality he possessed before the tour even started…

Just an analogy here - just because I’m not a fan of Katharine McPhee does not negate the fact that she’s talented.

  34. 34 Tasha Aug 1st, 2007 at 4:29 pm

Hi Sarah, I do think C Rich is as talented as Blake even though he’s not my cup of tea. What I was commenting on was what I’d seen on other boards, that Blake must’ve taught Chris to beatbox since they do that battle. I’d read elsewhere that Chris already knew how to beatbox before AI and that was one of the things they had in common. So though I’m not a fan, one has to give him credit for what he prob already knew.

Also, Blake seems to WORSHIP him, and in that Idaho video Blake was sort of just following him around. I don’t know why I find that odd enough to post about! I almost expected Chris to say, Quit following me around! It’s like Blake’s his kid brother, though he’s older. It was the first time I noticed that dynamic in their medley, and I think it’s bc C Rich has gotten more comfortable as a performer (not nec due to Blake).

  35. 35 Anne Aug 1st, 2007 at 5:42 pm

I don’t think there is an arguement here about which one is more talented. They both are doing great on tour, I personally enjoy Blake more; which is not to say the CRich isn’t great also. I’m sure they are both learning things from each other as well as from some of the other idols.

WORSHIP seems a bit strong of word to use, I just think they have a real cool friendship. As far as Blake shadowing CRich on stage during Geek in the Pink, I think it is more of Blake playing of CRich during that part of their performance. Like I said before I’m not a CAKE fan so to speak, but I enjoy their friendship and what they bring on stage when they are together. Not has big of a CRich fan as I am Blake, but I do think the guy is talented and most diffentely seems like a real genuine guy.

Good lord I’m in my thirties and I’m sitting here typing about this two guys, what have they done to me?:)

  36. 36 ld Aug 1st, 2007 at 6:04 pm

I agree that both Chris and Blake have their own talents. I do think Blake may have a little more “polish” than Chris due to the fact that he has a few years on Chris and probably has been performing longer. IMO Blake has Chris beat hands down on the beatboxing and the dancing. I know Blake is a very talented song writer - they say Chris is too, I just haven’t heard Chris’s original songs yet. Chris is obviously a talented musician in his own right (drummer anyone?). I think it’s great they are learning from each other and have such a close friendship. I think they’ve gotten into a “rhythm” from doing 20 or so shows together that has helped improve their performance.

  37. 37 Anne Aug 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm

lk, “rhythm” is better word to use than following or shadowing…thanks for that. I just watched the Idaho “Geek in the Pink” again and that is exactly what it is, a rhythm. I didn’t think Blake was following him at all they just seem to get more and more comfortable together on stage. I can only imagine what it is going to look like towards the end of the tour. They are both very talented musicians, as well as, Chris S.(though doesn’t have much stage presence) the guys is a very good singer and guitar player. Phil is also very talented, not to mention that Melinda and Lakisha can sing their butts off. I wish them all much success!

As far as the beatboxing you really can’t compare Blake and CRich. It is kinda like comparing apples to organges. This is what Blake does, he can sing and do it at the same time ie, Seattle video of beatboxing, but to see the two of them do the little duel at the end of their medley…priceless.

  38. 38 Anne Aug 1st, 2007 at 6:24 pm

oops, sorry ld…typing too fast again:)

  39. 39 ld Aug 1st, 2007 at 6:29 pm

I agree - “priceless”. I think the “cake” fans love it too! They are both amazing performers!

  40. 40 ld Aug 1st, 2007 at 6:30 pm

PS - Don’t feel badly Anne, I’m in my 50’s! Still young at heart though!
