Save KMS!

So I’m sure everyone’s heard by now that the “Killing Me Softly” duet between Blake and Mindy Doo has been cut from the show. They performed it on opening night in Sunrise, FL and it hasn’t reappeared since. After seeing this fabulous video of their performance all I’ve got to say is WHY??!

Team Plaid and Team Doolittle, holla if you hear me. Who wants to see them bring “Killing Me Softly” back? Let’s hear it! I’m challenging our lurkers to come on out and help us save KMS too.

Special thanks to Tracy for shooting this video and sharing it with everyone! ♥ She also got many other amazing vids in Sunrise. I’ve posted a couple more after the jump!

For Sarah ;)

Okay. Whats the plan? Is there a petition or an email address? How can we save KMS? I love Melinda’s voice and Blake fit right in adding the Fugee Flare to it.

LOL. I was just being cheesy & goofy about the whole campaign thing. But, I do truly wish they’d bring it back.

  5. 5 Pam Jul 9th, 2007 at 11:20 pm

I don’t think the campaign is cheesy at all. I am one of masses who will not be able to see the idols live this year and after I saw the clip of this performance in Sunrise and realized they had took it out of the program, I thought, what were they thinking! The performance needs to be brought back! It brings out the very best in both Blake and Melinda!

I love the KMS duet! Can’t imagine why they cut it! Grrrr… But the B-Shorty and C-Rich duet are TO DIE FOR! OMG! They’re just riveting! They look like they are having the time of their lives! I’ve never been a C-Rich fan but the guy definately has charisma, and watching him w/his best friend, Blake. Ah, you simply can’t beat that!

  9. 9 valdora Jul 10th, 2007 at 12:36 am

I can’t believe they cut KMS. I have been looking forward to a Blake/Melinda duet all season and KMS is the perfect song for them. The clips I’ve seen of it from the first show sound incredible. Bring it back!

  10. 10 Barbariba Jul 10th, 2007 at 12:51 am

OK, what do I need to do to get KMS back on the tour. Let me know, cause I’m another who won’t get to see the performances live. But I still want to see videos of them. It would be nice if AI would put out a DVD of the tour.

  11. 11 Sherry Jul 10th, 2007 at 2:35 am

Can they cut another Jordin song and put this one back in?

  12. 12 Laura Jul 10th, 2007 at 3:44 am

    RESURRECT KMS!

  13. 13 Sarah Jul 10th, 2007 at 8:33 am

Carp! I fell asleep early last night and missed this post! I’ll have to watch that video “for me” when I get home. Am I right in assuming that it’s CAKE? LOL.

I’ll try to get Part II of my recap up sometime this morning. :)

  14. 14 Midge Jul 10th, 2007 at 8:54 am

I’ll help! I want it back by this weekend!

  15. 15 kittykittyws Jul 10th, 2007 at 9:32 am

Man bring it back! It was AMAZING.

  16. 16 ld Jul 10th, 2007 at 9:57 am

I sooo want to bring it back! It was one of the best (from what I’ve seen & heard). I wonder if we can write to AI or something?!

  17. 17 Midge Jul 10th, 2007 at 10:15 am

Does anyone know how to write AI?

  18. 18 Karen Jul 10th, 2007 at 10:19 am

I know it seems like a cheesy campaign, but KMS has been one of my all time favorite songs in the world for over 10 years. As soon as Lauren Hill or Roberta Flack or in this case Mel Doolittle start singing I am drifted away into the song. It’s one of those songs that when you are driving along and getting ready to park, you will wait in your car until the song is over. I am sure everyone has one of those, well KMS is the one for me.

BRING KMS BACK! :mad_tb: Pleeeeeeeease :innocent1_tb:

  19. 19 Pam Jul 10th, 2007 at 10:54 am

I have to agree with Sherry. Jordin’s got so much time up there on that stage with 6 songs when at the most, all the others individually are lucky to be able to perform 2 or 3! I didn’t go to last years tour either, but I was in on the concert threads at AI last year, and from what I remember minus the group numbers and duets, everyone did 2-3 songs apiece and so it just irritates me that they cut this song and still allow Jordin her 6-song set! I don’t want that to come off as bashing, but it’s just wrong!

  20. 20 star Jul 10th, 2007 at 11:56 am

Am I right in assuming that it’s CAKE? LOL.

    Yeah, it’s Cake. :D

  21. 21 Christina Jul 10th, 2007 at 3:22 pm

WHAT!!! That was HOT! Why aren’t they going to have that one anymore, I would love to see that one done!!! Thats a real darn shame! :furious_tb:

  22. 22 pj Jul 10th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

Okay, I was reading Sligh’s blog and he said they cut his “Another One Bites the Dust” because they had to shave 15 minutes off the show. I wonder if that’s why they cut KMS?

I hope not. I say cut one of Jordin’s songs. You know her voice is going to be shot midway through the tour.

  23. 23 ld Jul 10th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

I love this so much I have to keep playing it again & again! I still can’t believe they cut it!

  24. 24 Pam Jul 10th, 2007 at 4:10 pm

I agree totally with you PJ!

  25. 25 Sarah Jul 10th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

    Okay finally watched KMS.

WHY? WHY?! WHY?!?! WHY DID THEY CUT IT?!?!?! It is fabulous! It is wonderful! They sound incredible together! I want a Mel/Blake duet in Seattle, or I am not gonna be a happy girl!

*takes deep breaths* Seriously, AI production crew dudes. Put the freaking song back in. Like, now. Like by tomorrow, so star can see it in Nashville, and report back how wonderful it is.

Who cares if the show goes over 15 minutes if you cut two of the best songs. I can think of a couple others that could go.

    Grrrrrrrrr.

  26. 26 Charles C. Jul 10th, 2007 at 8:23 pm

I imagine they had to cut 15 minutes from the show because I bet the show’s producers had to pay overtime after a certain amount of showtime.

I didn’t attend last year’s concerts, but I read the boards and Taylor performed a longer set than the others as he was the winner.

Still, they could cut one of Jordin’s songs and restore KMS.

  27. 27 jenlar Jul 10th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

This really stinks! They sounded so good, and looked great singing KMS. That performance had such a buzz surrounding it after the first concert.

  28. 28 Lisa Jul 10th, 2007 at 11:03 pm

I had heard that as of a few days before the tour started he was rehearsing one of his own songs as well but it was cut last minute. So they cut one solo he had planned, a duet with Jordin and the duet with Melinda. Yeah having 19 as his managers make me just so optimistic.

  29. 29 Sarah Jul 10th, 2007 at 11:25 pm

Well, 19 sure hasn’t done so bad for Daughtry or Carrie Underwood. And that’s all I have to say about that.

  30. 30 Connie Patterson Jul 10th, 2007 at 11:54 pm

SAVE KMS!!!!!!! Probably only part of show comparable to Blake’s solos. Kill it and the fans will feel cheated. Not a smart move considering auditions will be starting for next season, not to mention viewers not soon forget something like this. Makes me wish for a Melinda/Blake finale!!!!!!!!!!

  31. 31 Laura Jul 11th, 2007 at 2:49 am

This was brilliant, why would they cut it off? Blakes beatboxing and Melindas singing really compliments each other well!

  32. 32 Sherry Jul 11th, 2007 at 4:06 am

Regarding Jordin’s mini-solo concert and Taylor’s ending of last year’s tour. Taylor did start out singing 6-8 songs at the end of the show. Katharine was not on tour for the first month. When she finally joined the tour, she sang 3 songs and Taylor went down to 4 (including the nauseating Do I Make You Proud). There is no excuse for Jordin singing 6 songs when the rest of the group is there. I have been kind up until now. But I am fed up. They are pushing this spoiled brat down people’s throats for no reason. Blake outsold her in singles and EP’s. I would bet large amounts of money that his CD will outsell hers as well. I really don’t think this whole thing is winning her any new fans. I would honestly question how many of those who voted for her were simply voting for her because Melinda and LaKisha weren’t there. She doesn’t have LaKisha’s voice, Melinda’s grace or Blake’s everything. I don’t think there are many people who don’t know at this point that Jordin had won AI before she ever opened her mouth and the whole thing was fixed from day one. I also can’t help but hope that this one comes back to bite them on the a**.

Whew, I feel a little better now.

  33. 33 Sarah Jul 11th, 2007 at 8:41 am

Well, I don’t think Jordin was the original choice for a winner, but that’s another theory entirely. :)

Anyway, when I saw the S5 concert in Chicago last year, we had 6 Taylor songs - “Jailhouse Rock”, “Hollywood Nights”, “Living For the City”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, “Do I Make You Proud”, and “Taking It to the Streets” (encore). He didn’t do DLMD in every city (we just happened to be one of the lucky ones), but he did the other songs in every city, and that totals 5. When the tour STARTED and Katharine wasn’t there, he actually did 8-9 songs (I know “What’s Going On” was done at the beginning and then cut when Kat joined), and there was also a girls’ number that got cut. Katharine started with 2 songs (”Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and eventually added a 3rd (”Think”), but Taylor’s setlist stayed with the same 5-6 songs for the rest of the tour.

Anyway, this year’s format is so different that I don’t think we can really compare the two tours too much. The winner is obviously going to get more solo songs than the runnerup, the runnerup is obviously going to get more than the 3rd place finisher, and so on. And that’s what’s happening.

According to Sligh’s comments in his blog, AOBTD was cut for time and because the production staff just thought the audience didn’t “get” it. He did not say anything as to why KMS was cut. I would prefer that they both are added back, but you know what? This is a tour for the top 10. And every song is strong. If we’re going expecting to see Blake monopolize the time, we need to wait til his solo tour. Sure Jordin has more songs than everyone else, but she is the winner. She’s supposed to.

And that’s the end of my discussion on this subject.

  34. 34 robbo Jul 11th, 2007 at 11:41 am

What a sweet duet. It should stay in the show. And frankly,6 solos for Jordin and 3 for Blake seems a little unfair. He deserves one more. He came in #2 after all.
I look forward to a solo Blake tour.

  35. 35 hannah Jul 12th, 2007 at 3:21 pm

    that sounded so good :)

  36. 36 RollTide Jul 13th, 2007 at 9:19 am

Wow - that was awesome! Thanks to whoever put the vid up so we could all see it. :) I wish they would’ve kept that in b/c in my opinion Melinda didn’t get as much time as she deserved being the 3rd place finisher. And I’m all for adding anything that Blake’s in. ;)
