Here is a little info from the official site about the CD debut:

<blockquote>Blake's album, Audio Day Dream debuted at number <strong>10</strong> on the Billboard Charts and at number <strong>3</strong> on the digital albums chart. This marks the biggest chart debut of the week with scans of <strong>97,500</strong>.</blockquote>

He really needs more fucking radio airplay, ARGGGH.

(I'll be a little more patient... *grumble*)

Interesting that his was the highest debut of the week by far and he still didn't crack 100k? This isn't a knock on Blake at all, but on the music industry in general. Sales are crap.

Aw, good for him! He does need more radio airplay but I'm assuming once z100 gets it on Friday, that will mean ClearChannel will be able to start playing it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how it's gonna go.

I think once that happens we'll see a good increase! But GREAT debut. I couldn't be happier for this boy!

You are welcome Blake! keep going!

Anyways, I agree that he does need some major radio airplay to keep his name out there and keep selling records.

No, thank YOU Blake for putting out such a good album. I have high expectations, and prepared for a let-down. But this album surpassed my expectations.

Regarding airplay, this is what Rodney Ho had to say about Blake's sales and lack of radio airplay:

<blockquote>Blake Lewis’ “Audio Daydream” did better than I predicted: nearly 100,000 in sales its first week, according to Hitsdailydouble.com. (Their estimates are usually within 5 to 10 percent of Nielsen SoundScan, as reported by Billboard magazine on Wednesdays.) I thought he’d be lucky to sell 50,000 so congrats Blake fans! Anyway, he only came in slightly below Jordin’s first-week sales. Unfortunately for Blake, his “Break Anotha” single has not broken through yet. It has edged up to 50 from 52 on the pop charts with 52 of 143 top 40 stations playing his single at least once. If he can’t get radio airplay, sales will likely sink fast.</blockquote>

That's why is so important for radio play, I don't want his sales to sink the next weeks. Sigh.

See, this is exactly why I don't read those columns. They are real morale boosters. LOL I know we have to be realistic too, but the promo isn't over yet. I say after the radio promo is over, if things don't pick up in time, ok, but for now we really do need to try and be patient.

<strong>Pam,</strong>

what is discouraging for me is that a major market like L.A. had Blake on their radio show for an hour, and now I heard they haven't even played "Break Anotha" since? WTF? I just don't get it.

I already heard "Tattoo" three times today on the radio in the span of three hours, so Jordin's getting mass airplay and Blake isn't. I REALLY hope the spins pick up the next few weeks, and if not, get a second single out.

Well, let's just hope whatever Blake is doing at Z100 on Friday will get him added to their playlist. I'm going to try not to worry too much until we see what happens there.

The download numbers for "How Many Words" are pretty impressive...hopefully the label recognizes the potential there. I guess if "Break Anotha" was only available one way instead of as a single and an album track it would be hovering around the top 100 downloads too.

<strong>Nic</strong>,

It really was discouraging about LA. I won't deny that for one second. Yeah, they gave it 2 spins the week it debuted and then played it no more. I am totally with you on that. I don't get it either.

<blockquote>I guess if “Break Anotha” was only available one way instead of as a single and an album track it would be hovering around the top 100 downloads too.</blockquote>

Star - I would imagine that the Digital Chart is combining the sales for the single and album downloads. Why wouldn't they? It would make no sense. Both have to be counted somewhere. It's only on iTunes itself that we can't see a high number for it, because of the split.

Nic - I hear you on the L.A. station. Blake spent the morning on the phone with Ryan, the hour or so that night with JoJo. The only two spins that showed up on Mediabase for that station were from those two guest spots. And the awful songs we had to listen to on that station while he was on JoJo's show....ugghhh. "Break Anotha" is so much better than all of those songs. It really deserves the play.

I hope the guest spot with Z100 produces results with airplay. I'm optimistic, since at one point that mgr. had it as a Hot Pick. So, fingers and toes crossed!

Yeah, I'm sure the number posted for BA's digital downloads is the single & album downloads combined...I'm just saying if it wasn't available two different ways on iTunes we'd see it ranked in the top 120 or so too, because BA's total is only 20 less than HMW's total. or something. *headache*

Okay-- here's a blurb from E!

<blockquote>Blake Lewis can't jingle Josh Groban's bells.

The beatboxer became the second Idol star in three weeks to have a debut on the weekly pop chart, but neither he nor season-six champ Jordin Sparks were able to make Groban break a sweat. The crooner's holiday offering, Noël, spent its third straight week at number one, selling another 581,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Groban is now tied with the King himself, Elvis Presley, for the most consecutive weeks atop the chart with a Christmas album.
</blockquote>

Heh! I don't think Blake wants to jingle his bells, yanno??;-)
But not bad then, being under a guy who is equalling freakin' ELVIS in sales.

Actually, on iTunes at least, Noel is $11.99 - more than ADD. But I still don't get it!

Edited - I just listed to a snippet on iTunes and I get it even less. Oh well - we all like different things.

Here is a nice little article about the CD from <a href="http://www.livedaily.com/news/13338.html" rel="nofollow">liveDailly</a>

Here is a little snippet from it. You can click on the link to read the entire article.

<blockquote>The 26-year-old, who is planning an early 2008 tour, said it was a "real treat" to work with the talent whom he and the record company chose for "Audio Day Dream." Besides Watters and Tedder, Lewis collaborated with his idol, producer BT.</blockquote>

Nic says "Sales are crap!"

If you look at the end of the Billboard article, you see..

"Sales this week (14.45 million units) are down 23.3% from the same week last year (18.86 million). This week's sum is up 17.9% from last week's."

Yes, sales are crap.

Well, my friend, who's a huge Blake fan & did go out and buy ADD said the next album she wants is the Josh Groban one so, go figure. Personally my Christmas music is the oldies that I grew up with. I don't even desire new Christmas music. My favorite local pop radio station played the clip of Blake and Ellen beatboxing and were talking about how much they liked Blake. Then one of the djs said I wonder when he's going to have a cd come out. I called them & of course explained to them that it came out last week & why don't they play his music! They said they aren't the ones that make the decision about what music the station buys and plays. I did tell them they should listen to the cd that it's very good and I know they'd like it. Here's hopin' one of them does that!

One great benefit to being in the top 10.... Exposure - Blake's album gets to sit in the Top 10 shelving at retail outfits like Tower.

Regarding the Z100 interview, is it possible the label may push HMW onto ClearChannel? I'd think they'd wait, but if BA is floundering with the unreleased single HMW already beating it, one makes me wonder about a CC radio launch for HMW on Friday. Much more CC-friendly tune.

First, I have to say I am new at this type of things but I like Blake on idol and you guys here at teamplaid keep me well updated, and I really appreciate the hard work of you guys.
Today I've been thinking why you said he doesn't get too much airplay but probably like me don't listen to radio or call the radio stations, so I decided to look for the phone numbers and websites of the radio stations here in georgia since he will be in one tommorrow I think, and I found out you can request a song online, and I think it is a good idea to send some emails out there for some extra help to see if he gets more radioplay. I am planning of using my 4 email addresses at different times. If you want to help Blake, google you local radio station maybe they do this kind of things too. http://www.q100atlanta.com/equest/songrequest/

I have been thinking of purchasing Josh Groban's CD myself. Sorry!! I heard him sing some Christmas songs on Oprah's My Favorite Things show. Everything that woman endorses turns to gold. Think we could get B on there?

I'm sure Blake is happy with 98K. He's probably thinking "A year ago I'd be lucky to have sold 980 cds!" Many artists' first albums aren't blockbusters but they build their audience and maybe their second or third or even fourth becomes their breakthrough. It seems Idol finalists get one shot post-show then they're dismissed(unless they're Kelly or Carrie,Daughtry now). Blake just has to establish himself on radio! If it is the company CEOs that decide, then how do they decide what to tell their stations to play? Who tells them?

sigh.

Thank you Blake for this truly addicting album. I love every song and I love all your live performances. We are a bunch of worry warts. LOL. See how much we love ya Blake. I hope that everyone goes out and buys another album for someone special this X-Mas season. It is on my list...:)

Hi.
I wanted to participate in a topic argued for these past several days.

About Single.
I think , Next is WYG2L or GTGH betar than HMW.
HMW is very strong song. very emotional song. and very fitting album concept. (point : BA is fitting album concept? ummm)
I dig this song.
I think that this should wait for release a little more.(this song is #3 or #4 single is better ?)
I have feeling that is a big hit if I love it and do it well in the mainstream Radio station.
My favorite in this years : Apologize , Big Girls Don't Cry.
I don't like a lot of song , well in the mainstream. hehe...
But last year , too ("Crazy").

My choice of Next single : #1 GTGH / #2 WYGTL / #3 KMN
But , I think , The possibility that the music with a strong impression is a radio and does not sometimes do well ... WYGTL or KMN is better?
In the point that he makes a better performance in sales promotion , GTGH or WYG2L is better.
I think that it helps sales promotion to choose the song which he feels comfort in a performance.
I think HMW to have to wait until summer.
And this song is single sales more than help album , maybe , because it's very strong song.
(I mean ... point : Apologize)
I consider the possibility. I think that it is better to release after some up tempo songs. I hope , BA do it well in future.
In that case, who hear his song on radios and like it, but did not think that will buy it, but think that he can appeal to people.
and Now , It may be a wise policy not to sing it on TV.

Anyway.

"Emotional waterfalls" is one of my favorite song.
That song is his song which I thought to have to be single.
I hope for release someday. yes , next album ... ?
If it is my favorite, it is possibility of a hit. However, I do not listen to much mainstream;, yes...

About a long sentence, I am sorry.
and my grammar is no good...

PS- I agree with you , Crystal.J.
And more . He showed a wide range so that it was enabled in 1st. He is so smart.
And it is interesting that this is still only his one side.

WYGTL is my favorite - I would've preferred it to BA as the first single. I do love BA but think it's not the style to catch the casual listener. I also love Here's my Hello and think it would do well on the radio. That's my 2 cents. I Love them all! So, I'd say I'm pretty biased.

<strong>kl</strong>,

I have to agree with you to a certain extent. It's not that BA doesn't make a good single, it's just that the general public that's heard it hasn't responded to it as well as HMW and that's just going by the digital downloads of course. I'm in love with HMH personally, and would love to hear it on the radio and I do think it would do well. I guess you can count me in as biased too since I pretty much love all of them too.

I honestly have high hopes for ADD and 98K really isn't bad considering the lack of radio play. I think this will be one they have to keep pushing, but once it breaks, it's going to break BIG. The album is fantastic and I can absolutely imagine it being one of those albums that just grows and grows and grows in sales.

I was in Mexico when it came out, but first thing on Friday morning when I got back, I went to my local Best Buy to get my copy. The girl at the cash register didn't even know Blake had a CD out! She was like, "Oh, I loved him on Idol. I wanted him to win instead of Jordin!" So I told her that all the clips I had heard of the album were fantastic, and before I left the store she was going on her break and walked right over to buy her own copy.

People just need to realize it's out there and it's great, and I have great faith that they will do that sooner or later.

And I really hope AI has Blake on a results show to perform something off ADD this season. Look at what a jump it gave Elliott Yamin's sales, so it'd be great exposure for him to come back to Idol for a performance.

I personally think that because "Break Anotha" is the first single, it needs a chance. If the label were to release another single right away, it would look bad. I still think BA can catch on and hopefully will get more radio play after the Z100 premiere.

Oh, and I hadn't thought about ADD being in the Bestseller bins next week. Excellent point!

Does anyone know how long it took Daughtry's "It's Not Over" to get major radio play?

GTGH doesnt do it for me. Never really was into the Ritz hook, although Chess did an ok version.

HMW is a sure winner and sets up the heart of the album nicely. EOTW and 1000 both go well.. WYG2L was on the AOL Sessions, so maybe they are thinking that, but I would do HMW to introduce the other side of the album first.

So does Natalie Portman know Blake's name now? (ducking)

<blockquote>
And I really hope AI has Blake on a results show to perform something off ADD this season. Look at what a jump it gave Elliott Yamin’s sales, so it’d be great exposure for him to come back to Idol for a performance.</blockquote>

I hope so too. I mean they will probably have Jordin and Blake back, they both are with 19 so I am thinking it is a sure bet they will be there sometime this season. Hopefully Blake can promote his second single once the new season rolls around.

I think Daughtry's single came out in late November (went for adds in early December), and started to get decent airplay in January after their New Year's Eve gig. So, it probably took a good month to catch on. Let's hope Blake has the same trend, but it seems like BA is taking longer to me. INO stayed on the radio for a good SIX months though, so I'm not sure Blake can achieve this! LOL

Oh, by the way, I'm appalled at what I hear on the radio of late. Not just the shit songs, but the fact that they play the SAME songs on EVERY station. For example, Chris Brown on two stations at the same time, then Maroon 5... but the worst?? BUBBLY on two stations, I almost puked in my mouth a little. :/

I have listend to Blake's CD all day while at work and it is amazing. It grows on you. His voice is very melodic on his ballads. I wouldn't worry about lack of radio play. Here in Houston, all you get are commercials anyway. I never listen in, too much nonsense bantering by no-talent pitch men (and women) and people yipping about buying a car and saving you money on furniture. Blake should consider TV comedy sitcoms and he is very photogenic. He is a fresh, bright young man who seems devoted to his parents and his fans. I'd make it a point of going to any of his concerts that come this way. Keep singing and I'll keep buying!

<strong>pj</strong> I do agree with you on this. Though I'm still not sure if BA is going to be the hit that I think it should be or could be though. I was reading what someone wrote about Maroon 5 that if they would have released This Love before Harder to Breath that they may have broken out sooner. This might be one of those cases. By that I just mean that the second single might do better than the first. Again, not saying the BA won't catch on...I hope it does. I love the song, even more so live. The most important thing right now is to have something that is keeping Blakes name out there. There really are quite few songs to choose from for the next single though:)

Oh Nic - I so get this. I only have two Top 40 stations where I live. That and NPR are all I've preset on my radio. I had to cancel my XM and then my CD player ate the CD that I made from my iTunes download. So, this evening I had a choice of Bubbly on one station and Summer Love on the other. Nic knows how much I despise that Summer Love. And for some reason, the story on NPR was totally uninteresting. Talk about puking.

So, I was envisioning the 45 min. drive home....I got another CD at WalMart. For some reason, the CD player let me put another CD in. I can't figure it out. Much nicer ride home.

SOOOOO - is there anyone out there that hasn't seen the documentary yet and needs the code? Please respond at my MySpace page <a href="myspace.com/chowchowbaby " rel="nofollow">here</a>. I'll send the code to the first person that replies.

That is really weird how it wouldn't let you play the first one but will let you play this one. Glad you got one now that will play.

Guys,

If you haven't seen the doc, it's awesome! I'd recommend you take advantage of Crystal's link! :D

<blockquote>
Does anyone know how long it took Daughtry’s “It’s Not Over” to get major radio play?</blockquote>

Well, I don't know exactly but I do remember clearly that I heard It's Not Over just after Christmas, before New Year's in Houston's Top 40 station KRBE. Which is a big station. Soon after that he got played in a heavy rotation.

The advantage Chris had was that most of the radio dj's just LOVED him. The media loved him too so it really helped him get out there.

I am not so sure how much love Blake is getting from the radio dj's, but it will be tougher just because he is the type of artist that's controversial.s 50% loves him and 50% just don't get him.
Daughtry was more of a wide accepted artist. JMHO.

Let's hope the NYE gig helps him to launch his single finally.

Well, as for a second single, whenever that happens....mixed thoughts here. Part of me says another very uptempo song. I do think, based on iTunes numbers that any of the G2GH, KMN, or HMW would do well. Though there are several other good singles on there, these onces caught the downloading public quickly. Might be best to take advantage of that when the time comes. Think of iTunes as the test group.

Although I freaking adore HMW, the better choice may be KMN. Lupe is going to get the song interest. And, he may get broader play on the "urban" stations due to that.

As an aside, if "I'm Just Human" were possible, I think it could have big potential as a second single. And of course, that darn Surrender & HMH are like earworms, in a good way! And I like so many of these songs on further listens. WG2L is moving up to earworm status with me too, but it's taken awhile.

When I picked up my CD today, the gal at the checkout was looking it over while I was paying. There was such a huge line, that I couldn't ask her if she had interest in it. But maybe that was enough. Of course, she may have simply been intrigued (or appalled, depending on who you talk to) by the artwork for all I know, lol!

Daughtry's INO was released to radio on December 5th but it didn't really take off until January after Daughtry performed the song on FOX'S New Year's Eve Special and the video came out in mid-January.

One advantage that Daughtry had was that INO appealed to both Top 40 and Hot AC radio as well as Rock radio. Its cross-genre appeal helped make the song gain tremendously in popularity. It was a snowball effect.

It isn't up to the DJs whether a song is played or not but rather it is up to the program director so it doesn't matter whether or not DJs loved Daughtry or not.

Blake's "Break Anotha" is a great song for Pop radio but may not appeal to Hot AC. Also, I am not sure how helpful the video will be for the song.

It will be interesting to see if the song takes off if Blake performs it on FOX's New Year's Eve Special.

Bouffe,
So glad you got to see the docu - and you're the first person to confirm it works on a Mac. Hooray. I'm ordering my Walmart cd this weekend. So weird it's not available in Canada. I really hope Blake gets a UK/EU release eventually, he'd do well in "foreign countries with discoteques" according to Mr. Randy Johnson. Wouldn't it be great if he was suddenly HUGE in Germany (move over, Hasselhof) or France (the new Jerry Lewis!)

Oh you guys I just had a random crazy thought.

I know it is totally dreamland, but can you imagine B and Quentin Tarentino working on a video together? I'd love to see what they'd come up with.
