Blake’s album, Audio Day Dream debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Charts and at number 3 on the digital albums chart. This marks the biggest chart debut of the week with scans of 97,500.

(I’ll be a little more patient… *grumble*)

Interesting that his was the highest debut of the week by far and he still didn’t crack 100k? This isn’t a knock on Blake at all, but on the music industry in general. Sales are crap.

I am very encouraged by the way the album is going. I’m very happy for Blake!

I think once that happens we’ll see a good increase! But GREAT debut. I couldn’t be happier for this boy!

Anyways, I agree that he does need some major radio airplay to keep his name out there and keep selling records.

Blake Lewis’ “Audio Daydream” did better than I predicted: nearly 100,000 in sales its first week, according to Hitsdailydouble.com. (Their estimates are usually within 5 to 10 percent of Nielsen SoundScan, as reported by Billboard magazine on Wednesdays.) I thought he’d be lucky to sell 50,000 so congrats Blake fans! Anyway, he only came in slightly below Jordin’s first-week sales. Unfortunately for Blake, his “Break Anotha” single has not broken through yet. It has edged up to 50 from 52 on the pop charts with 52 of 143 top 40 stations playing his single at least once. If he can’t get radio airplay, sales will likely sink fast.

That’s why is so important for radio play, I don’t want his sales to sink the next weeks. Sigh.

what is discouraging for me is that a major market like L.A. had Blake on their radio show for an hour, and now I heard they haven’t even played “Break Anotha” since? WTF? I just don’t get it.

I already heard “Tattoo” three times today on the radio in the span of three hours, so Jordin’s getting mass airplay and Blake isn’t. I REALLY hope the spins pick up the next few weeks, and if not, get a second single out.

The download numbers for “How Many Words” are pretty impressive…hopefully the label recognizes the potential there. I guess if “Break Anotha” was only available one way instead of as a single and an album track it would be hovering around the top 100 downloads too.

Star - I would imagine that the Digital Chart is combining the sales for the single and album downloads. Why wouldn’t they? It would make no sense. Both have to be counted somewhere. It’s only on iTunes itself that we can’t see a high number for it, because of the split.

Nic - I hear you on the L.A. station. Blake spent the morning on the phone with Ryan, the hour or so that night with JoJo. The only two spins that showed up on Mediabase for that station were from those two guest spots. And the awful songs we had to listen to on that station while he was on JoJo’s show….ugghhh. “Break Anotha” is so much better than all of those songs. It really deserves the play.

I hope the guest spot with Z100 produces results with airplay. I’m optimistic, since at one point that mgr. had it as a Hot Pick. So, fingers and toes crossed!

Blake Lewis can’t jingle Josh Groban’s bells.

The beatboxer became the second Idol star in three weeks to have a debut on the weekly pop chart, but neither he nor season-six champ Jordin Sparks were able to make Groban break a sweat. The crooner’s holiday offering, Noël, spent its third straight week at number one, selling another 581,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Groban is now tied with the King himself, Elvis Presley, for the most consecutive weeks atop the chart with a Christmas album.

Regarding the Z100 interview, is it possible the label may push HMW onto ClearChannel? I’d think they’d wait, but if BA is floundering with the unreleased single HMW already beating it, one makes me wonder about a CC radio launch for HMW on Friday. Much more CC-friendly tune.

One great benefit to being in the top 10…. Exposure - Blake’s album gets to sit in the Top 10 shelving at retail outfits like Tower.

It seems Idol finalists get one shot post-show then they’re dismissed(unless they’re Kelly or Carrie,Daughtry now). Blake just has to establish himself on radio! If it is the company CEOs that decide,then how do they decide what to tell their stations to play? Who tells them?

I think , Next is WYG2L or GTGH betar than HMW.
HMW is very strong song. very emotional song. and very fitting album concept. (point : BA is fitting album concept? ummm)
I dig this song.
I think that this should wait for release a little more.(this song is #3 or #4 single is better ?)
I have feeling that is a big hit if I love it and do it well in the mainstream Radio station.
My favorite in this years : Apologize , Big Girls Don’t Cry.

I have to agree with you to a certain extent. It’s not that BA doesn’t make a good single, it’s just that the general public that’s heard it hasn’t responded to it as well as HMW and that’s just going by the digital downloads of course. I’m in love with HMH personally, and would love to hear it on the radio and I do think it would do well. I guess you can count me in as biased too since I pretty much love all of them too.

I was in Mexico when it came out, but first thing on Friday morning when I got back, I went to my local Best Buy to get my copy. The girl at the cash register didn’t even know Blake had a CD out! She was like, “Oh, I loved him on Idol. I wanted him to win instead of Jordin!” So I told her that all the clips I had heard of the album were fantastic, and before I left the store she was going on her break and walked right over to buy her own copy.

People just need to realize it’s out there and it’s great, and I have great faith that they will do that sooner or later.

And I really hope AI has Blake on a results show to perform something off ADD this season. Look at what a jump it gave Elliott Yamin’s sales, so it’d be great exposure for him to come back to Idol for a performance.

HMW is a sure winner and sets up the heart of the album nicely. EOTW and 1000 both go well.. WYG2L was on the AOL Sessions, so maybe they are thinking that, but I would do HMW to introduce the other side of the album first.

I hope so too. I mean they will probably have Jordin and Blake back, they both are with 19 so I am thinking it is a sure bet they will be there sometime this season. Hopefully Blake can promote his second single once the new season rolls around.

Oh, by the way, I’m appalled at what I hear on the radio of late. Not just the shit songs, but the fact that they play the SAME songs on EVERY station. For example, Chris Brown on two stations at the same time, then Maroon 5… but the worst?? BUBBLY on two stations, I almost puked in my mouth a little. :/

pj I do agree with you on this. Though I’m still not sure if BA is going to be the hit that I think it should be or could be though. I was reading what someone wrote about Maroon 5 that if they would have released This Love before Harder to Breath that they may have broken out sooner. This might be one of those cases. By that I just mean that the second single might do better than the first. Again, not saying the BA won’t catch on…I hope it does. I love the song, even more so live. The most important thing right now is to have something that is keeping Blakes name out there. There really are quite few songs to choose from for the next single though:)

Oh Nic - I so get this. I only have two Top 40 stations where I live. That and NPR are all I’ve preset on my radio. I had to cancel my XM and then my CD player ate the CD that I made from my iTunes download. So, this evening I had a choice of Bubbly on one station and Summer Love on the other. Nic knows how much I despise that Summer Love. And for some reason, the story on NPR was totally uninteresting. Talk about puking.

Well, I don’t know exactly but I do remember clearly that I heard It’s Not Over just after Christmas, before New Year’s in Houston’s Top 40 station KRBE. Which is a big station. Soon after that he got played in a heavy rotation.

The advantage Chris had was that most of the radio dj’s just LOVED him. The media loved him too so it really helped him get out there.

I am not so sure how much love Blake is getting from the radio dj’s, but it will be tougher just because he is the type of artist that’s controversial.s 50% loves him and 50% just don’t get him.
Daughtry was more of a wide accepted artist. JMHO.

Let’s hope the NYE gig helps him to launch his single finally.

Although I freaking adore HMW, the better choice may be KMN. Lupe is going to get the song interest. And, he may get broader play on the “urban” stations due to that.

As an aside, if “I’m Just Human” were possible, I think it could have big potential as a second single. And of course, that darn Surrender & HMH are like earworms, in a good way! And I like so many of these songs on further listens. WG2L is moving up to earworm status with me too, but it’s taken awhile.

When I picked up my CD today, the gal at the checkout was looking it over while I was paying. There was such a huge line, that I couldn’t ask her if she had interest in it. But maybe that was enough. Of course, she may have simply been intrigued (or appalled, depending on who you talk to) by the artwork for all I know, lol!

One advantage that Daughtry had was that INO appealed to both Top 40 and Hot AC radio as well as Rock radio. Its cross-genre appeal helped make the song gain tremendously in popularity. It was a snowball effect.

It isn’t up to the DJs whether a song is played or not but rather it is up to the program director so it doesn’t matter whether or not DJs loved Daughtry or not.

Blake’s “Break Anotha” is a great song for Pop radio but may not appeal to Hot AC. Also, I am not sure how helpful the video will be for the song.

It will be interesting to see if the song takes off if Blake performs it on FOX’s New Year’s Eve Special.
