Nice, a little more than HDD tallied for sales.

Question, what does the (10) at the very end mean?

  2. 2 pj Dec 19th, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Michelle, it’s where he ranked on the chart last week.

what does it mean by his single fell off the charts.. is it no longer in the top 200???

Ken Barnes’ review stated “Single Break Anotha sounds like an overcaffeinated Justin Timberlake….: I have to tell you that though it is a catchy tune because it is so different, when I listened to it I felt like I had a buzz on. I was kind of disappointed after I downloaded the songs on iTunes. Sorry, but that’s my opinion. I went to BestBuy after Thanksgiving to look for the CD itself and really had to look for it. It was on the bottom shelf in the Pop/R&B section and about 10 copies, looked like maybe 5 were sold if they filled it up. They had a huge display of “New Releases” right in front and that wasn’t where they put A.D.D. which I found very strange. BestBuy is the place to buy CDs here in Fairfax, VA. Only Blake fans would persist to try to find it and since it wasn’t in the New Releases area, it wouldn’t get noticed. I miss the pure voice like SWBL/WOWY. He was on Ellen and though she was a big Blake fan–all she said was “can’t say this is not energetic….”

    Yes, that’s what it means.

I enjoyed the Ellen performance a lot, and I disagree with your interpretation of her comment. She said, “Just a little more energy and you’ll be fine.” Then she added that it was “fantastic.” The energy bit was obviously a joke, since she’s a comedian and ll.

thanks pj… I want it back on the charts… PJ can you fix it???

Has Mediabase stopped doing PM updates? I noticed they didn’t do it yesterday, and haven’t seen a PM update yet today. Tho, I have seen them come out pretty late in the evening before. Just curious.

So, this morning’s update he was at #40 with 712 spins. #39 has 792 spins, so I doubt we’ll see any increase in the spin rankings for awhile. Just want to see those audience impression numbers come up more…

PJ - that’s exactly how I saw it. She was having fun with him about the energy. Actually, I remember seeing some people out in the front of the audience up dancing - but it was a fleeting glimpse.

    Crystal,

The morning update was late today for the first time in quite sometime. I think it was around 9 am or so before it showed up. They did do an update yesterday afternoon, but it was after 6 pm.

  10. 10 Nic Dec 19th, 2007 at 8:14 pm

I really don’t think the pure voice thing is an issue, since there are FIVE BALLADS on his CD.

  11. 11 Pam Dec 19th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Exactly! lol There is no mistaking his “pure” voice and not just on the ballads but even on some of the other songs as well. I think it’s just an issue with personal taste. Blake wanted to separate himself as much from AI as possible but still be able to make a CD he thought his fans and even non fans might identify with.

That’s very strange, because I tried it several times and never got the PM update yesterday. It continued to show 12/18’s AM report for me. I even closed the browser and reloaded the page….oh well. Must have been a glitch.

Well, if I could only make myself not look at the damn thing every day…

Well, if I could only make myself not look at the damn thing every day…

Hee! It’s usually on Saturday’s and Sunday’s when the updates come in late like this. The people doing these updates may only be working partial days or something with Christmas coming up on Tuesday. I don’t know that for sure of course, just a theory. lol

  14. 14 Anne Dec 19th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Seems to be aimed straight at the Justin Timberlake market, and — with a properly warm radio reception — it could hit the jackpot.

This is from the review that I saw from Ken Barnes.

She said, “Just a little more energy and you’ll be fine.” Then she added that it was “fantastic.” The energy bit was obviously a joke, since she’s a comedian and ll.

That is how I saw it too. Though I loved that performance, so…:)

  15. 15 Nic Dec 19th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Yes, Ellen’s “a little more energy” was an obvious joke since he was bouncing around all over the stage! :lol_tb:

  16. 16 dani Dec 19th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

yup!! it was so funny when he was on Ellen!

  17. 17 Chrissy Dec 19th, 2007 at 10:38 pm

I think these figures are good. All I know is that I’m still LOVING my CD!

As far as the Ellen show goes, I don’t think she would have given a copy to each audience member if she didn’t enjoy it. But, it is personal opinion, and I’m sure that not every fan is going to be happy with the final product, much as some non-fans may be converted.

  20. 20 Kelly Dec 20th, 2007 at 4:40 am

I hope he’ll get an increase in sales next week. Cause usually, on the second week, artistes usually have a decrease in sales. He appeared on TRL and with the video now actually officially premiered, he’ll have an increase in sales next week.

  21. 21 blossom Dec 20th, 2007 at 4:56 am

Did you guys see this yet? It’s an AP story about MTV and their youth voting activism campaign…Blake isn’t actually mentioned as part of it but his picture from TRL is attached to it. And it’s AP so everywhere that picks up the story is running this pic with it! I’ve already gotten two versions in my Google alerts. Whoever made that happen, GOOD job!

    Fortuitous circumstances indeed! :-)
Anytime his smiling face is out there on something, I figure it will definitely help him.

And Dani– if he doesn’t like you, accept it. Your friend has already figured something out about him, trust her feeling on it.

bully she doesn’t like him cuz she thinks he’s a geek and he’s ugly….. ireally like him tho!!!! It’s so funny when I talk to him on the phone he does this thing were it sounds like darth Vader beatboxing!!! I talk to him on the phone 2 hours this morning (yup I got up at 6 am to talk to a boy.. I can’t do it for school but for a boy!)

  26. 26 Michelle Dec 20th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

he got up at 6am to talk to you for two hours? hmmm ;) personally i’d be like “ugh call me back in 12 hrs” unless it was like, my mom or something. sounds like you are friends at least :)

yay for random unrelated pics attached to ap stories!

kelly, ADD was definitely dropping 2nd week because 1st week had all those preorders and the fanbase running out to buy multiple copies. now it’s up to the “normal people” :D But yeah I hope it stays sort of steady since it’s the holidays and he did some promo…then it’s on to January with Times Square, Leno…

aw, i just heard ruben got dropped from his label :(

  27. 27 Pam Dec 20th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

aw, i just heard ruben got dropped from his label :(

Yep, I heard that too. There is a post about it at mj’s under today’s headlines.

As far as the drop in the sales this week, that was to be expected because you usually do see a decline in 2nd week sales in most cases, however, if you compare the drop in Jordin’s #’s to Blake’s, Jordin’s drop was a lot more. If airplay starts picking up after the first of the year, that could give sales a boost along with the NYE special on Fox and maybe the possibility of a Leno appearance sometime next month, hopefully, since Leno is returning to TV on January 2nd, minus his writers of course.

  28. 28 Nic Dec 20th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

Pam, very true, but most CD’s saw increases in their sales from the previous week due to the holidays, not drops. That is what concerned me :(. Does anyone know how the other debuts did (who came out the same week as B)? Hopefully radio airplay will pick up SOON.

  29. 29 Lisa Dec 20th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

There were still some big sales and some increases due to Xmas shopping for Jordin’s 2nd week and she still saw a huge drop. Second week drops ALWAYS happen. Taylor also had a mid size drop last year at this time.

Ken Barnes gives this for download numbers so far at this Jordin/Blake comparison chart: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2007-12-19-jordin-blake_N.htm.

Track downloads: 505,000 (34,000 for single Break Anotha).

If I am reading All Access’s Street Pulse correctly, ADD has a sales gain of 23% compared to this day last week (yes, I do see his title is wrong). Only two artists have negative sales, and all others are debuts or showing gains. The Christmas bounce is obviously in effect!

    Crystal,

ahhh I see you have found out about it too. Yep, it’s an “up” arrow with a 23% gain! Woot! :D

Yep, it’s an “up” arrow with a 23% gain! Woot! :D

So this is showing that ADD has already sold more this week at this time than last week?

I stopped by Walmart to see how the CD was doing, and there were only 6 left of the 38 sent to the store. Of course they were all under Huey Lewis, so I moved them to the Hot Shot section:) There were a lot of Jordins still there out of the 78 shipped. Though I did see that another shipment came in of her CDs this week, but on the sticker only 7 were sent.

  34. 34 Crystal J. Dec 21st, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Yes, Anne, that is what it means. For yesterday his gain was 18%. It was the lowest of the gains, but still a gainer. Jordin’s was up 43% for yesterday. Hell’s Bells, even Timbaland showed a slight negative for yesterday. I know it’s been harped to death, but the freaking Major Markets have to start playing his songs. He’s doing incrdibly well selling, considering the lack of that. But it won’t last for long.

As I noted on the “Odds & Ends” threads, an album has to have at least 5 spins to show up on the StreetPulse chart. And the only chart I’m looking at is Mainstream Top 40.

  35. 35 Anne Dec 21st, 2007 at 3:27 pm

I know it’s been harped to death, but the freaking Major Markets have to start playing his songs

It has been harped to death, but…it does need to have Major Market play.

I would think Jordins numbers would be jumping up higher. Tattoo is all over the place. And No Air has a AI of over 4mil right now, sitting at #61. I would have to guess at the rate this song is moving she should have two songs in the top 40 by sometime next month.

  36. 36 Nic Dec 21st, 2007 at 7:00 pm

I refuse to harp on the major market airplay thing too much *right now*, because I’m just going to get pissed off again and chastised for being ‘gloomy’. ;) But, I can tell you one thing, if I see this trend continuing after the New Year I WILL start voicing my displeasure big time, LOL.

The fact that “No Air” already has double the audience impression of “Break Anotha” when “Tattoo” is over-saturating the airwaves every hour does NOT please me in the least, let’s put it that way.

Honestly? It’s not so much about being gloomy as it is beating a dead horse. The poor horse has been beaten to a pulp now, seriously. Again, I understand the frustration, but complaining about it 24/7 isn’t going to change things. Lord knows if it did, Blake would’ve broken OneRepublic’s spins record weeks ago. ;)

  38. 38 Nic Dec 22nd, 2007 at 1:53 am

    Star,

as I said before, I’m going to wait and see. If there’s no change after the New Year with the airplay situation, I am definitely going to start bitching (!!). Let’s hope it picks up after the NYE performance.

  39. 39 Bully Dec 22nd, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Don’t know if I mentioned it upthread, but at Walmart there was only FOUR copies of ADD. I’d like to think they sold out, but how can they sell it to last-minute shoppers if IT ISN”T THERE?? Jordin had displays all over the place. Just saying.

I’d say just because of the “stocking problem” some of these retailers are having, getting it/keeping it in stock? Jordin’s album ought to see a serious bump up this week over Blake.:-/ Doesn’t make me happy to say that, either, because it is an avoidable dilemma. Retailers made a choice that will hinder us.

  40. 40 Lisa Dec 22nd, 2007 at 12:49 pm

Your store may only have 4 copies but my Best Buy had about 20 yesterday. All stores vary by location and they also gauge orders by demand. Something to keep in mind is Jordin had an initial shipment much larger than Blakes (650,000 may have been published but I heard it was actually much higher, but lowered when her first week sales underperformed). She’s selling OK now but I highly doubt she’s had some huge surge in additional shipments. Stores might be putting out what they already had of hers. When it comes to re-stocking some stores are more on the ball than others. There’s a lot of Arista hate lately but in this case they can’t be blamed.

I had heard the shipment #’s for Jordin were a bit higher than that as well but I can see why they were lowered since the first week didn’t meet expectations.

When it comes to re-stocking some stores are more on the ball than others. There’s a lot of Arista hate lately but in this case they can’t be blamed.

She’s right about this folks. We can’t blame the label for the display and stocking up the shelves issue. From what hso said 2 weeks or so ago here about our local Wal-Mart, they had done an excellent job with a front and center display and because of it, the CD was selling pretty well at that time, and they had to restock when she went to buy her copy. The military base that is an hour from my home, had a very nice “in your face” display of A.D.D. in a small cart just barely out on the floor just a few feet from the music and electronics section. The CD had two rows on the top left of that cart. When I walked by the display, it was as if it was staring back at me! LOL This was on the Friday of the week the CD was released.

Some stores have done a good job and some have done a crappy job but that is where there problem lies, with the stores, not the label.

  42. 42 Nic Dec 22nd, 2007 at 3:01 pm

I haven’t been to Wal-Mart this week, but when I went in twice the past few weeks Blake’s CD was still up front in new releases with several slots (at least 3-4). So, there weren’t any posters up announcing his album but at least he WAS up front and not just stuck on the regular shelves in alphabetical order.

  43. 43 Crystal J. Dec 22nd, 2007 at 7:46 pm

YEah, the two WalMarts I bought mine from had it out in front, on the outside wall as you enter the section. But still the whole dept. was a muddled mess. I didn’t go back in the rows of CD’s.

This morning from StreetPulse, FWIW, Blake’s sales for yesterday were up 13% from last week. Only Timbaland is lower at 10%.

A.D.D. has been selling out all around me. It was sold out in Kalamazoo,MI best buy, and Mishawaka, IN Best Buy. There was also a wal mart near dearborn, MI that was sold out this weekend. So it seems to selling well around here.

  45. 45 music4me Dec 23rd, 2007 at 10:15 am

Mary J. Blige has taken over the racks at my nearby Target, but I found only 2 copies of A.D.D. there–in the regular CD Pop/Rock section. I did have to hunt for it, though. The Border’s had restocked A.D.D. and it was prominently displayed on the Emerging Artists rack. It looked like about half had already been sold.
