ahh im at school and i’m about to walk downtown to TRL to possibly see Blake coming in and out of the building. HAHA I’m so excited! =] I have a friend who’s possibly getting IN to the show. I would have but I just had a final exam that bled into the call time. I’ll have to share a recap later, though, of what does go down!

Thanks to everyone who posted the pics & vids! I’d love to be able to be at one of these performances. Blake sounds so good live & I’m really loving what he’s doing with HMW. I went & picked up another cd at Wal Mart this morning (a gift for a friend, since I already bought 3). I am also guilty of moving his cd to “front & center”. I also played the preview on both the machines they had to do that. I find it odd that they preview GTGH, KMN and WY. Without You is my least favorite song on the cd. I Love the cd but my favorites are HMH and WYGTL. (Sorry, all these initials are driving me crazy!)

I also picked up JamesTaylor’s Christmas CD(which i didn;t know was out) with both hands, and after I hugged it awhile, I made a little display for him too in the Xmas section where he was.

Bully - thank you! To me James Taylor is the original “JT.” I was very confused when I started to hear that reference come up with Timberlake. It really bothers me that he’s basically stolen that moniker! If I were buying any Christmas CD’s, this would be the one I’d get right now. Well, maybe Mannheim Steamroller too - always liked their Xmas CD’s.

LOL–Pam, is it wrong that I could tell by the PICS that he was singing HMW?? hee! ah well.

Kasia - thank you for the pic’s!

Bully - you weren’t the only one to guess this. ;o) I always wonder how artists can sing these painful songs over and over - you can see how much emotion he pours into this one.

Laura - thanks for posting those vids. I think the person taking them was just a “wee bit” focused on Blake, lol. I’d have loved to have seen both him and Kevin, esp. during the “battle.” I love to Kevin’s relaxed way of drumming, like it’s totally effortless for him. It seems like these have been some of the better vids from the Jingle Balls - better sound! Though, obviously when B started doing BA, she/he should have zoomed back on the camera, heeheehee.

Hey Guys! Sorry I have been out of the loop… (well at least here.. In the loop on all things Blake)…

Anyway, I went to Jingle Ball in Philly last night…. (I am the lunatic screaming in those Videos. My friend, Sandy, took them….)

Crystal– If she zoomed out, you wouldn’t have been able to see much. Our seats weren’t the best and the idiot in front of us was being..well.. an idiot. She had to zoom all the way in to see anything. She was shooting between heads.

Here are my pics. They aren’t that good… :( Sorry.

I hope that a few pics that I sent last night answered some questions about Blake’s wardrobe. I know there are usually some questions about that. :wink_wp: I would probably not remember all the details if you asked me because the whole experience is kind of fuzzy right now.

Just general impressions first about the concert. Tweeter Center in Camden holds about 7000 people and it looked like it was pretty much filled. I was sitting with my daughter in 4th row in the center, so we had a very good view of artists. Very close to stage so we enjoyed watching Blake’s set very much. A lot of teens and younger adults in the audience. It seems to me that many people did not know that Blake was going to perform that night. Several people who sat next to us were surprised when my daughter told them she came to see Blake.

As you know Blake performed only 2 songs. However, he and Kevin did a fantastic job. Very energetic on the stage and excellent rapport. The only thing that I think would make “Break Anotha” stand out more in that setting would be if the entire band performed. It is a big venue and with a high energy song like this, more instruments would make it more powerful and grab the attention of the audience more effectively. “How many words” sounded fantastic with just two of them. I would not change a thing on this song. By the way, he mentioned that this song might be his second single.

Some of the performers sound better in the studio versions, for example, Good Charlotte. They were energetic and fun to watch on the stage last night but musically and vocally I have to say recorded versions sounded much better. Blake is an artist that sounds very good live and in studio. If I have to make a judgment how he was received, the reaction of the crowd was louder for Good Charlotte or Sean Kingston but I think the crowd would have reacted stronger if Blake had an opportunity to be on the stage longer. It really felt like he was in and out. He was probably on the stage about 10 minutes while others close to 40-50 minutes. Also, the DJs did not make the most effective announcement when Blake started to sing. But what I like about the introduction was that they did not refer to Blake as an AI runner up or a beatboxer but rather introduced him as “Blake Lewis”. At least this is what I remember.

I do not think he was to be the central point of the concert with just 2 songs but I think the set was long enough to get him exposed to people who came to the concert for other performers. I also do not think we have any need to worry about the reaction of the audience. My husband was sitting 18 rows back from the stage and when Blake finished, there was huge cheering and screaming coming from the back. Another thing, my husband likes progressive rock and he does not listen to Blake as much as I do, but after Blake’s set he said to me that Blake was the only one worth coming to see in the concert. I take it as a compliment for somoeone who is not a fan of Blake. I totally agree, Blake and Kevin were really terrific. I hope that this will give you a litte flavor of the concert and Blake’s set.

By the way, thanks for the other pictures and videos.

    Kasia,

I agree, I think Blake can pull off his songs live and in some cases I prefer his concert performances OVER the studio versions of the songs! He’s just a very dynamic performer, and his live vocals certainly are better than alot of other established artists out there. I could never comprehend the “he sings like shit” bashing from the haters, because from what I could tell he certainly pulls off live vocals ALOT better than some of these singers-bands who are selling millions of CD’s.

“Break Anotha” live is awesome to me, even better than the studio track off the CD. When his bandmates and he get into it, it really is quite RHCP-esque. I agree that having the whole band there would have rocked!

Another thing, my husband likes progressive rock and he does not listen to Blake as much as I do, but after Blake’s set he said to me that Blake was the only one worth coming to see in the concert. Well, that’s encouraging, too bad Blake and Kevin couldn’t do more than two songs ;). I do hope that New Year’s Eve gig opens some people’s eyes to him too.

By the way, he mentioned that this song might be his second single.

    Very interesting.

after Blake’s set he said to me that Blake was the only one worth coming to see in the concert.

    Very encouraging:)

Thanks for the recap Kasia. I know two songs isn’t that much, but it is still two songs that 7,000 people got to hear:) I did love HMW that he perormed that night. It really is a beautiful song.

  22. 72 Kasia Dec 17th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

    Nic and Anne,

That is exactly what I think those concerts or promotions are to do to Blake. To expose him to as many new potential fans as possible. I think he can only gain from those events.

  23. 73 Lori Dec 18th, 2007 at 12:35 am

Thanks for all the pics and recaps! It seems to be a recurring theme at these Jingle Ball Bash things…Blake’s performance is the best of the night. Hmmm……

  24. 74 Crystal J. Dec 18th, 2007 at 4:18 am

Kasia - thanks for the pics and the recap! And how nice to hear the words of praise from your hubby! He can win people over - just has to get out there and be heard!

I would not change a thing on this song. By the way, he mentioned that this song might be his second single.

I thought he said that in the intro to HMW, but couldn’t hear it quite clearly and decided that he just said a future single, or something like that. So interesting!

And, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. B can sing in the studio and he can sing live. That really is a gem of a skill to have, and a lot of artists cannot do it. And a live show brings the bonus of the energy and performance skills. Not to sound trite, but he brings it all to both the studio and the stage.

I’m not a person to show their emotions in public, but if I saw him sing HMW as passionately as he did at this show, I’d probably be in tears.

  25. 75 Bully Dec 18th, 2007 at 10:27 am

I still want to know who made him feel this way. Whoever she was wants the Perfect Man, and really put our boy thru the wringer.
This is what i think of, when I hear some of the lyrics–but I wonder how much guys as a whole feel that way? He did have co-writers.

  26. 76 Christine [blakerxxgurl] Dec 21st, 2007 at 2:06 pm
