Watching AI last night made me yearn for the sizzling top 3 performances of Season Six. Is it just me, or have the current crop lost their fire? Maybe it’s fatigue, maybe it’s crappy song selections, or maybe it’s because the contestants are saving themselves for the inevitable David vs. David finale. Last year, top 3 was FUN.
So I present a trip down memory lane.

Blake was on FIRE that night! He was the only one that did 3 new songs. And he brought Maroon 5 to the show. After those performances, he deserved to be in the finale!
Blake had a fantastic Top 3 night and he definitely earned his place in the finale. “When I Get You Alone” was my favorite of the three! I remember after Robin Thicke performed on AI last year, I thought he was awful, so when we saw the spoilers about Blake singing one of his songs, I was skeered. But it turned out to be a GREAT song! I liked it so much I bought it off iTunes later.
These were so fantastic! I loved Top 3 night last year! I still don’t understand how they can say Season 6 was boring. Honestly, I think it was so much better than this year. Last night was booooring! I love Cook but even he sort of bored me last night. I hear talk of “they should let them rest”. Pleeaase - maybe they should but they didn’t rest last season or any other that I know of. I loved all three performances Blake did last season. His voice was so clear and beautiful, he looked good, and he danced. I haven’t noticed anyone dancing this year.

*swoon* Okay, so I’m older, we know this– and I had never heard that song before. M5 I knew he’d be good at, and he was, but when he broke out the Robin Thicke?? Oh, my. Is it the words? The phrasing? the way he sung it? Idk, but I was just agog I think. Agog, and drooling, perhaps. It was then spouse started wondering what was going on with me! hah!

Oh man, good times. Top3 last year was SO made of awesome. Last night with Syesha doing her sultry thing, spouse mentioned Melinda and how she was just so unbelievable. Yeah, we all still miss it, despite DCook’s (awesome)glory-notes.

Not just you pj. Something about last was just, well…boring. Made me long for last years top three. Blake kicked butt last year. And I too loved the Robin Thicke song/performance:D
Loved that night; all his performances were fantastic. Blake was to me the strongest of the three left. As much as I love Sting, I did not like Sting’s early version of Roxanne. He sounds better in his later versions of the song. I loved Blake’s version from the moment I heard it. His voice is really smooth and powerful.
It’s funny how they say this year, that how tired everybody is and how touhg it is… And at the same time last year they all were very good.. especially Blake. I loved When I Get You Alone and still love it!
Not so intested in AI this year (since Jason is gone) but I think I’ll check results this time online as they get there . I’ll be watching Finland against USA ice hockey game (world championships) and it starts 2.00 am here in Finland..I’ll have to do something between periods to keep me wake!

This year just has not been a good year for me to watch. I cant get into performances like I have in the past. I do like Dave Cook but all of them seems predictable and not awe inspiring this is the first year I have felt that way. There has always been at least one or two memorable performances a season for me but this year hasnt had one for me yet. I still can remember kellys final song. Clays solitare man,fantasia summertime,bo’s accapella perfomance, Daughtrys ring of fire, and three of the last years performances this year just none has sung or performed something I wont forget. Is it just me but I keep expecting more from this years singers and not getting it. There are more was just giving an example.
Last year’s top 3 show was so much better than this year’s.
For starters, Blake, Melinda and Jordin all gave strong performances. Next, the 3 actually like each other so while they may have been competitive, it was good, friendly competition. I don’t sense much of a connection with this year’s contestants. Season 6 top 10 really jelled with each other and it was treat to see their group interviews and the concert.
Blake doing When I Get U Alone was the performance that got him a slot in the final 2. He was the only one who chose to perform a new song rather than reprise a previous performance. Oddly enough, I think a lot of fans who were so besotted with This Love (because the song was more familiar) that many overlooked When I Get U Alone.
One thing from last night–I thought what AI did to Syesha in giving her that dumb song from Happy Feet ranks right up there with Blake being saddled with This is My Now in terms of the show and its producers sabotaging a contestant’s chances. I felt really bad for Syesha last night.
I don’t really care for Syesha or Archuleta, but I’m a big Cook fan this year!! He really deserves to win, but of course that doesn’t mean he will :P.
I’ll agree that Syesha kinda got hosed with the “Happy Feet” song but she did herself NO favors choosing “Fever” as her own choice. I’ll be honest, I found her very boring, on the fake side, with mediocre vocals.
I was wandering around the internets, and found this.
The “numbers” thing is always curious to me, and this shows where Blake ranked in a popular vote of Favorite Idols in that Poll.
Also I might add, that it surprises me sometimes, to read an account from someone online of their “opinion”. Definitely gives a new perspective on the whole what it takes to WIN AmericanIdol, and the way the public responds to the Finale performances. Hmm.
ie the difference between say a Jordin fan, and a Blake fan. or the difference between a Cookie and Archie even…how do the cast-off favs and their displaced fans Vote, in the end? That’s always the question. Are they converted to a fandom in the end? or do they vote based on performance, and emotion?
It can’t be a bad thing that BT is sort of taking Blake under his wing, so to speak. :o) I’m happy with that, considering the mucho respect for BT in the biz.
But, I am with Nic, as I have said before. They can release every song off the CD as a single, but none will fare any better than the first two, without more label support. Plain and simple. The label has to decide if they are going to really get behind a 3rd single, and not just throw it out there and expect it to fly on its own.
I’ve sort of wondered if Clive weren’t in the process of being “demoted,” if there would have been more label behind B. But, I doubt it, with all the money he poured into Leona.

Blake had such an awesome top 3 night. I enjoyed every one of those performances, and his hometown visit was right up there with Elliott’s. I was so happy that I had voted so that he could have that day. He looked like he was having so much fun. I really love a lot of the contestants from this season, but they’ve looked miserable and exhausted for weeks. I think it’s totally understandable and that they ARE ridiculously overworked and overstressed, but it makes it that much more impressive that Blake not only had it all together at this point in the competition, but that he looked to be enjoying it as well.
