New Music: Robin Thicke

Since we were reminiscing about “When I Get You Alone” earlier in the week…check out Robin Thicke’s new single, “Magic”! The track will be on Robin’s new album, out 7/1/08. What do you think?

I’m sorry, I don’t like it either. It sort of sounds like Disco music to me.

It doesn’t do anything for me either.

LOL, it’s okay if you don’t like it. I saw it on Oh No They Didn’t yesterday and since Blake likes Robin’s music, I thought I’d post it here for fun. :)

I like it. I wasn’t a big fan of “Lost Without U” but I got Robin’s first (failed, underappreciated) album, which “When I Get You Alone” is on, and I really like the music on it. I think this new song is more in line with the sound he had on that record.

I like it too. I prefer “When I get you alone” but this is interesting too. Thanks for posting it.

Star - I don’t dislike it. I’m just mehhh about it.

I kind of like it. I really like Robin’s voice and I loved Without You. I don’t know if I like it well enough to purchase the album though.

off the topic..I just read that Taylor Hicks is going to sing the role of angel in the musical Grease…heavens mercy..what are they thinking??..its like asking Blake to sing in Camelot..that role demands a wide range as well as a powerful voice…can’t see him doing it..ugh..saw Grease twice and the artist who sings it has a beautiful voice..I’m afraid unless they change the main song dramatically, people will be cringing..another knife in Taylors career..

    It’s a sort of side-related–
the one thing that strikes me is the unabashed sensual wording that Robin Thicke uses in some of his songs. My jaw just starts hanging down, because, well, I’m 12 yrs old like that. But he isn’t afraid to just sing it, say it, use the power of that imagery. Neither is Adam Levine with his pressure on her hips, and pleasuring fingertips etc, too! :-)

Adam Levine with M5 is in a CMT feature “Crossroads”, singing with Sara Evans.(You might could catch it tonite or this weekend.)Sara sort of called him out on the dirty lyrics–LOL.”Who wrote that??” He sort of blushed, which was made of AWESOME btw, and said HE was the one who wrote it! :-) But he didn’t think about the lyric, when he was singing it. heh!
So, these guys write these sexxy songs to stimulate the female brain, and then don’t remember what the song is about?? MMmmhmm.

don’t kid yourself…they’re thinking the sex ALL the time..

So I am hearing rumors that they are bringing back two idols from each of the past seasons to be on the A.I. finale. Does anybody know if Blake is going to be on there? *I hope, I hope*

  12. 12 EndOfTheWorld May 16th, 2008 at 3:59 pm

Sorry, here is the link for the rumor (scroll down the page a little):

    A.I finale

And gag…..Jonas Brothers are going to be on there also I think.

  13. 13 LD May 16th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

No Blake, not much interest in watching for me. Especially if it’s the Jonas Brothers (sorry but Yuck!). It seems weird that they’re changing locations too.

  14. 14 Bully May 16th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

Considering Blake was Last Year’s ALMOST-winner, you’d think they’d want him back. Maybe he doesn’t fit in a year where they tried to make Syesha the next Alicia Keyes.*rolls eyes* The Jonas Brothers are bigger and better than Evar!

Sorry, I got more than enough Jonas Brothers while watching the NYE Times Square event.

It definitely has an old-school, 70s R&B vibe to it. I like it! Thanks for posting it, Star. :)

I really like “Magic”–very summery vibe to it as well as late 70’s disco/soul. Hope it’s a hit.

BTW, I think Blake would be an excellent opening act for a Robin Thicke tour as their styles are complementary. One day we’ll hopefully see Blake on tour either as headliner or opening act.

  17. 17 newduck May 16th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

My prediction is that if we ever see him as an opening act for a big name…we will soon see him as a headline.

He is electric live and connects with the audience well. That will be the best promotion he could get.

  18. 18 Kasia May 16th, 2008 at 11:35 pm

    Newduck,

He is electric live and connects with the audience well.

I could not agree with you more. His interactions with the audience seem to be natural and not forced and Blake is witty.

  19. 19 Nic May 17th, 2008 at 5:11 pm

I think we need to take what we can get, it wouldn’t hurt Blake to open for an established act. Jordin is doing that for Alicia Keys, after all.

Jonas Brothers on Idol this week? :/ Meh. I hope that’s not a sign of things to come, with an ARCHIE victory!! Shit, I’ve had enough of the sappy ballad-bubble gum pop on this show.

I found this article and I agree with it, Idol needs COOK to win to get some of its credibility back.

Is anyone having trouble with posts showing up? I just submitted one and it’s gone. :( *Sigh*

    Joyce,

I agree that Taylor on Broadway sounds like a train wreck for that role!

For some reason your comment went to spam. Maybe it didn’t like your link. Sorry.

Ahh, there the post is!! That’s strange how it went to spam, thanks for fixing it :).

This is REALLY off topic but im just finding out how much im liking the song human :) (iTunes exclusive)

Okay so today I was listening to the radio. And Q 104 was going on about how it was a whatever weekend, that they would play whatever you wanted to hear. So I figured I would give it a shot. So I called in and asked them to play How Many Words, and the guy was just like, “sorry we don’t play that one.” and then he hung up! I don’t get it!! Why can’t they just play Blake?????

  25. 25 ilikebunnies May 17th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Oooh, I really like the Robin Thicke song. I like the disco vibe. Lost Without U was OK, but When I Get You Alone was awesome, so I’m glad this is more in that direction.

I’m reeeeaaaaally hoping Blake is one of the two contestants from S6 to be on the finale. It’s not like anyone except Jordin has outsold him and he was memorable whether people love him or hate him, so he seems like the logical choice. I’m just worried they’ll try to be funny and haul out Sanjaya as one of the two. I wonder if they’ll be singing with the current contestants? Because then I’d like to hear Blake with Brooke. He could play an instrument then and their voices would complement each other. Or it could be like the big Beatles medley last year where they just bring them out one by one. I like my idea better though;)

I had Idol Extra on the other night while doing some cleaning and they had a commercial for the marathon today. The host J.D. Roberto was listing his favorite moments of the show. The only performance he named was Blake’s and he made a comment about how “extremely talented” he was. I know it’s not a biggie or anything, but it’s just nice to hear someone recognize Blake’s abilities. Lately there’s been so much revisionist history about what a talentless hack he is and the worst singer ever to appear on the AI stage (because OMG, every talented singer has to be able to sing TIMN as well as Jordin). I still love his voice and all his other talents too.

Nora, that’s really disappointing. HMW is a pop song and it was requested, so I don’t see why radio has to be so averse to playing it. Radio sucks.

Nora - if I were you, I would definitely call the program manager and ask them what is up with that. I mean, if they say they’ll play ANYthing, that should not mean they’ll play anything but Blake Lewis. Of course, the program manager could be what’s behind this, but you won’t know if you don’t ask.

Theresa - “I’m Just Human” has been one of my favorites from the beginning!

    ilikebunnies,

Was that information confirmed or is it still speculation that there will be 2 contestants from S6 during the finale? I would certainly want to see Blake rather than any other contestant from that season.

  28. 28 ilikebunnies May 17th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

Here is the link Kasia. I think (hope) Yahoo should be reliable, and they’ve got a lot of other details about the finale. I really want to see Blake back on the AI stage.

Another random article that I thought you guys would be interested in, about one-man bands. It talks about looping pedals. I’m hoping that if this catches on, that clubs nationwide would be more into booking Blake, but I don’t think people necessarily know that Blake the pop recording artist a la ADD is the same looping guy performing live. Maybe his next album will mesh both a bit more?
