During the boy band, Blake was making these hilarious… I don’t even know how to describe the faces he was making at Phil. The closest would be “kissy faces.” I seriously do not know, people. Hee. And then on the closing medley, he was all up in Gina and Haley’s nows, being a total dork, and then he and Gina ramped up their dork to dangerous levels for the final bars. He was also dashing around the stage with a camcorder in hand, taking film clips of everything and everyone: the band, the other Idols, the audience.

Blake got the single biggest general crowd reaction by saying that being in Idaho felt like home because his mom and dad were both born here, and he visits relatives in the state every summer. I did not know this!

Sounds like Blake is doing well…yet again! Go Bshorty!

Just cause this whole diva!Blake THING bugs me to bits here’s a report from a fan in Portland…apparently Blake missed the tour bus (again) and the fans waiting around before the show were worried he wouldn’t have time to meet them:

So we have a crowd of Blakergirls and Blake is no where to be seen. So we’re asking the security where he is and she tells us ‘I don’t know. He’s somewhere in Portland…” Apparently, he just left the motel with one of his friends and went around downtown. And he had a press conferance at 3 and we found this out at around 2:30. So we’re all freaking out because he’s not here and he has to be gone in a short while. And then, this car pulls up and this beautifulness steps out. And thus the screams start…*not just from me btw* And he goes into the building and the security’s like “They probably won’t let him come back out…” and yet, amazingly…, about 1 minute later, he’s walking towards us. And the guard is like to Blake “you can only sign, you don’t have time for pictures with everyone.” He kind of just rolled his eyes and said “I have a half hour. That’s plenty time.” And proceeds to ignore the guard. And my eyes are tearing up and my nerves are making my entire body shake…literally. We’re the first people he comes to and I’m trying to compose myself (and failing badly) And he finally gets to me and I’m so nervous I can barely speak. But I do manage a picture, autograph and an extra hug. =P He is amazing. They all are. But he is just….I love him.

I had heard he (and Chris) got in trouble for missing the Anaheim M&G and soundcheck.

I was wondering if they’d get in trouble for that. Details?

However, in these interactions, positive or negative, I think sometimes we have to remember that he’s just human. AI fans expect way too much of these contestants. I realize people want to immortalize the contestants and believe they’re perfect, but that’s just asking for disappointment, IMO. Everyone has a bad day sometime (except Ace Young, apparently. Hee.).

There are stories about Blake meeting the fans, etc, that actually remind me a whole lot of Taylor last year.

It’s pretty cool they really dig Blake and think he will have success from this season. THey think he is the only who is the closest to being played on their TOp 40 stations, just like Daughtry and Elliott Yamin .

That really is a great story. Good for her. I can’t identify with the shaking and crying, but the being nervous, yeah definitely.

However, in these interactions, positive or negative, I think sometimes we have to remember that he’s just human. AI fans expect way too much of these contestants. That’s very true, and I think people expect more from the winner/runnerup to be 100% friendly all the time, when that is not the case. And yeah you have to remember that they are human, and not some kind of gods or anything. Although in a way I feel that people just like to make Blake seem like a diva, and if any of the other contestants acted that way, they would be considered shy or tired.

Taylor and Chris Daughtry had the odd comment about them last season. Taylor didn’t show up at the M & Gs some of the time and isn’t known to be warm to fans even now (yes, I’m not a Taylor fan). Chris didn’t get it as much but had his moments. I think they’re probably overwhelmed at times and tired of the demands on them. Didn’t Blake say that he’s happy to take pics, etc with fans when they’re not rude and pushy with him? I can’t say I blame any of them for that.

This year, my friend was quite impressed with Blake–very friendly and loving the attention he was receiving. He also liked Gina, LaKisha, and Chris Rich. He couldn’t stand Chris Sligh (or Slough as he called him).

Ahh! I love it when people get to meet Blake even though I haven’t. Did your friend say anything else about Blake and the other idols like Jordin and Sanjaya?

I perceive Blake as the same way in some respects. When I met him, he was friendly and such a good sport to take a pic with the Team Plaid sign. The whole time I was talking to him, he focused on me - looking at me, listening to me, not letting his attention wander. But he was also more quiet and reserved than I was expecting. Blake also has those who are really OTT, and of course, he has more screaming teenage fans. It can be a lot to take.

Also, as I previously said, a lot of AI fans have inflated expectations. Some of them think that because they voted for a contestant, that said contestant OWES them a picture or autograph or a hug or 30 minute conversation. For the most part, I think all contestants would LOVE to give something to everyone who wants something. But in reality (I seem to be dealing a lot in reality these days), that can’t happen. But of course, people liberally apply this little tidbit when it’s convenient for them.

I just think it’s important to remember that these people aren’t going to be our BFF’s, boyfriends, girlfriends, or whatever, and treat our interactions with them as such.

Gina noticed that the younger girl was looking left out and made a point of speaking to her and letting her know she was beautiful too.

That’s so sweet of her. She really impressed me on the tour.

And Sarah, on the screaming thing, I found this in one of the AI board recaps:

“Then I hear TONS of screaming so I’m sure that was blake coming over.”

He’s dealing with a lot, but I’m positive that he truly enjoys all his support and his fans whether they are screaming or acting normal. :)

I totally agree. We all need to remember that Blake is human(and just like us he gets tired and is not always social) I feel sorry for fans who may have meet him when he wasn’t in the best mood, but we have to remember that he is doing the best he can, I mean after all the energy he puts into his performances, I would be drained.
