Those are fantastic pics from Fresno, ninrgrl! Blake’s parents both came from Idaho - his Dad grew up close to the Utah border so, he spent some time in northern Utah. Check out myfoxutah - there’s a few clips about Blake & his family ties to Utah. The SLC crowd tonight should be lovin’ some Bshorty!

Just cause this whole diva!Blake THING bugs me to bits here’s a report from a fan in Portland…apparently Blake missed the tour bus (again) and the fans waiting around before the show were worried he wouldn’t have time to meet them:
Aww that was sweet of Blake! I completly understand the girls reaction: the crying, the “i cant seem to be able to talk”, and the shaking.
Not for anything but he really needs to be a bit more careful with his timing issues. Its great that he did take the time to be with the fans when he didn’t have to, but he’s got to be careful. I had heard he (and Chris) got in trouble for missing the Anaheim M&G and soundcheck. I worry he’s a little too rebelious sometimes.
I was wondering if they’d get in trouble for that. Details?
I don’t really have details but two friends of mind got into the afterparty (which he did attend) and it was being mentioned there they got in trouble by the promoters I think it was. They got the impression Blake was laughing the whole thing off because when they met him and brought up the M&G that was when he laughed and said he and Chris missed the soundcheck too.
That really is a great story. Good for her. I can’t identify with the shaking and crying, but the being nervous, yeah definitely.
However, in these interactions, positive or negative, I think sometimes we have to remember that he’s just human. AI fans expect way too much of these contestants. I realize people want to immortalize the contestants and believe they’re perfect, but that’s just asking for disappointment, IMO. Everyone has a bad day sometime (except Ace Young, apparently. Hee.).
There are stories about Blake meeting the fans, etc, that actually remind me a whole lot of Taylor last year.

I just found a great clip from TWOP of radio DJ in Salt Lake CIty that talk about Blake’s chances in the music industry .
It’s pretty cool they really dig Blake and think he will have success from this season. THey think he is the only who is the closest to being played on their TOp 40 stations, just like Daughtry and Elliott Yamin .

When I went to the concert, I actually was expecting idols “larger than life”, but they came on stage and were just… human. Ordinary people with amazing voices, but normal nonetheless. When I read about people meeting Blake, its mostly either really great or really bad impressions of him. What they think, though, isn’t going to change my opinon of him, which is way up there.
So, what did happen with Taylor and all his fans? This comes up every once in a while in relation to Blake…

Great review from the Idaho concert. Sounds like Blake is still getting the biggest cheers. Yeah for Chris R. for doing so well, though still can’t get behind the voice. I would like to hope that Chris R. is going to get a record deal also, but I have this feeling he may go the way of Ace. He does great on stage, but he really needs to make a name for himself, instead of the Timberlake clone. I really think this is why Chris R. should take the country road. He could do really, really well.

That’s very true, and I think people expect more from the winner/runnerup to be 100% friendly all the time, when that is not the case. And yeah you have to remember that they are human, and not some kind of gods or anything. Although in a way I feel that people just like to make Blake seem like a diva, and if any of the other contestants acted that way, they would be considered shy or tired.
Taylor and Chris Daughtry had the odd comment about them last season. Taylor didn’t show up at the M & Gs some of the time and isn’t known to be warm to fans even now (yes, I’m not a Taylor fan). Chris didn’t get it as much but had his moments. I think they’re probably overwhelmed at times and tired of the demands on them. Didn’t Blake say that he’s happy to take pics, etc with fans when they’re not rude and pushy with him? I can’t say I blame any of them for that.
True, and it seems its always the more popular one who get the “diva” sterotype.
A friend of mine took his daughters to an AI meet and greet last year and this year. Last year he overheard Taylor bitching about not getting a cut of the money of the tshirts sold displaying his name or getting money for the autographs he gave out and pics he posed for. My friend found Taylor very tacky to say something like that out loud at a meet and greet. He’s not surprised that Taylor is struggling in his post Idol career.
This year, my friend was quite impressed with Blake–very friendly and loving the attention he was receiving. He also liked Gina, LaKisha, and Chris Rich. He couldn’t stand Chris Sligh (or Slough as he called him).
Ahh! I love it when people get to meet Blake even though I haven’t. Did your friend say anything else about Blake and the other idols like Jordin and Sanjaya?
I have to preface this by saying that I did not meet Taylor on the AI tour last year. I met him briefly in Chicago during his solo tour this spring. However, by nature, Taylor is more reserved and quiet than some people I think expected. People took that as snobbery or being ungrateful or a diva. You know, whatever. I took it as a guy who’s grateful for your support, but wants to keep some things about himself private. And he was literally being hunted down and chased by some fans. That’s way too OTT for me.
I perceive Blake as the same way in some respects. When I met him, he was friendly and such a good sport to take a pic with the Team Plaid sign. The whole time I was talking to him, he focused on me - looking at me, listening to me, not letting his attention wander. But he was also more quiet and reserved than I was expecting. Blake also has those who are really OTT, and of course, he has more screaming teenage fans. It can be a lot to take.
Also, as I previously said, a lot of AI fans have inflated expectations. Some of them think that because they voted for a contestant, that said contestant OWES them a picture or autograph or a hug or 30 minute conversation. For the most part, I think all contestants would LOVE to give something to everyone who wants something. But in reality (I seem to be dealing a lot in reality these days), that can’t happen. But of course, people liberally apply this little tidbit when it’s convenient for them.
I just think it’s important to remember that these people aren’t going to be our BFF’s, boyfriends, girlfriends, or whatever, and treat our interactions with them as such.
My friend and his daughters didn’t spend much time with Blake. Blake was first in the receiving line and obviously there were a lot of people who wanted to meet him. But again, my friend and his girls thought Blake was very nice and charismatic, but unlike some fans, they understood they couldn’t monopolize him. My friend had a chance to talk to Lakisha for quite a bit (my friend was a Lakisha fan, first and foremost during the show). His older daughter bears a strong resemblance to Jordin Sparks and Lakisha noted it and let a couple of other Idols check her out. They were fawning over her. Gina noticed that the younger girl was looking left out and made a point of speaking to her and letting her know she was beautiful too.
That’s so sweet of her. She really impressed me on the tour.
And Sarah, on the screaming thing, I found this in one of the AI board recaps:
“Then I hear TONS of screaming so I’m sure that was blake coming over.”
He’s dealing with a lot, but I’m positive that he truly enjoys all his support and his fans whether they are screaming or acting normal. :)
When I met Blake he was rather quiet but did focus on me, as Sarah said. He seemed pretty tired too. Their schedule is insane. I heard Melinda tell someone she just wants to sleep when tour is over! Gina was very gracious when I met her & seemed genuinely pleased when I told her how gorgeous she looked! Sligh seemed rather shy.
I totally agree. We all need to remember that Blake is human(and just like us he gets tired and is not always social) I feel sorry for fans who may have meet him when he wasn’t in the best mood, but we have to remember that he is doing the best he can, I mean after all the energy he puts into his performances, I would be drained.
