DJ, yeah I heard that a few days ago. Man I have that I Got U song in my head the past few days. And HMH, is pure yum. I love it. I am not worried at all for the album, Just being able to buy one makes me excited.

I am happy that 1R had higher that expected sales. I wanted them to sale more since I totally love them now, but a lot of people have no idea who they are. I am sure they are thrilled to sell 84,000, especially when they almost broke up a year ago.
Jordin’s numbers scare me. They are so low. Daughtry sold like 240,000 in the first week. (I could be wrong.)I hope Blake’s sales fair better, but I don’t think they will. He isn’t getting as much promotion right now. I am not worried though. Blake never really carried about the Top 40 sales. He just wants to be him and I love him for it.
Nic - I don’t know how many iTunes downloads there are for Apologize, but I know the single is certified double platinum. 1R has a good start.

I think part of OneRepublic’s problem is that some people don’t even KNOW that “Apologize” is their song when they hear it on the radio. I’ve personally heard a few DJ’s actually refer to the artist as Timbaland, WITHOUT even mentioning 1R! Maybe if the stores had put an APOLOGIZE promo sign next to their CD, it would have helped ;).
The other problem may be the fact that people have chosen to download the song off iTunes, and wait on purchasing the album.

I am not bothered by Timbaland’s “Apologize” takeover. The only reason I started listening to the song is because it got the most plays on mediabase and I recognized Timbaland’s name. I did not connect our Bshorty’s Ryan Tedder as the same guy from OneRepublic. I, like thousands of other new OneRepublic fans, found them through Timbaland. I think they are happy with the outcome. I am sure they will gain their own identity in the future. A few more singles and they will definitely make (an independent) name for themselves.
I think you are right about downloading the single. I would have downloaded it too if my computer liked iTunes.
Daughtry sold much more. I actually think he sold like 303,000 the first week or something like that and then it just skyrocketed from there.
I really think Blake has the potential to sell even more than Jordin but the promotion has to start rolling now. His album seems that’s going to be awesome but people have to be aware that is going to be available next week.
I don’t understand the lack of advertisement and buzz for this CD release. I always thought 19 was going to promote the heck out of Blake, considering how highly Simon Fuller spoke about him. But I guess I was wrong. I don’t see much movement on their front. Sigh.
Yes, you’re so right maracaibo, they’re just going to throw the CD out there without a stitch of promotion, cancel everything that is booked already, not even put up the AOL Sessions and let Blake just sink

Lisa, I am not implying that, I am just saying that they should start promoting things already, it just makes nervous to see the days pass by and still no new news one week before release.
But yeah, maybe I am just being paranoid, I will let it go, sorry.
I just can’t help feeling anxious about Blake’s slow promo and schedule and to make matters worse all this talk of low sales for Jordin, 1R, etc. (Hope you understand how I feel).
I think you are, actually. You’re on pins and needles all day and all this worrying isn’t going to help anyone. Blake has a good team behind him. Did you ever stop and think maybe huge first week sales isn’t the goal they’re shooting for?

maracaibo, don’t worry too much. I used to but not now. He’s got Daughtry treatment in creative control. I think they will also give him a good promotion just like Daughtry. After that, the album will have its own legs.
I think we all need to take a trip to the Zen Garden. Worrying and trying to figure out what is in the heads of Blake’s promoters is not going to help Blake sell CDs. If you want to help, then start talking.
- Talk to your friends.
- Talk to your family.
- Make small talk with that random stranger that is looking at the CD rack in the store, or the person contemplating the purchase of a new stereo.
- Buy the Break Anotha ringtone and set it as your most common ringer on your phone (some have more than one assigned ringer).
- Re-record your voicemail greeting to include a little plug for ADD, including Blake’s name and the drop date.
- If you’re able to set Break Anotha as a Caller tune, where people can listen to it while they wait for you to answer your cell…then do it!
Instead of just worrying, let’s be proactive and get the word out! There are plenty of things that we can do to promote Blake by ourselves, without the big bucks of the label behind us.

maracaibo get a grip :) Not all great albums, or great artists take the same path!! Blake is going to be just fine. He is doing what he loves!! They have their reasons for doing things the way they are doing them!! We are not the experts. We might as well let go, trust the force, and be Happy for Blake!! Don’t mean to sound like I am lecturing….. it is just out of our control and I know we want to send positive loving vibes out to Blake!

Realistically, we are not gonna smash sales records first week. That’s not the end of the world. If the album is strong it’ll have legs and that’s what I’m hoping for.
I’ve told most of my friends and a few of them have come back wth the reply sayig there gonna buy or asked me to get it for them for christmas! Ihave lots of Blake pics in my locker and if someone at schoool asks who he is I say that Blake Lewis my favorite singer who CD comes out Dec. 4th and if you want to hear how good he is buy the cd!

wow… i certainly hope he’s not logging all those miles. he’s probably doing in-studios for the major markets and long-distance stuff for some of the smaller ones. but… ELLEN!! YAAAAAY!! finally.

YAY!!!! I am really excited to hear about upcoming promotion. I hope Blake does some traveling to radio stations. Some stations post videos on Youtube. And if anyone feels so inclined I would love video clips of the television appearances. ;)

Thanks for sharing the article. I was wondering how Jordin faired. I can’t believe she sold less that Taylor Hicks. No offense Soul Patrolers, but Jordin has a broader appeal than Taylor. Maybe American Idol will no longer have such an impact on record sales. Maybe the market is saturated. We’ll see.

okay this is really ironic but I emailed the Ellen show about three or four weeks ago asking if she’d have Blake on her show…Never heard a response but looks like its been answered…yey!!! I’m definately stoked about this=0) Too bad the Nashville thing wasn’t next Friday because I’m going to be passing through to go visit Amanda, The one with CML. So glad to see all of these updates=0)

I totally agree that Jordin is MUCH more marketable than Taylor, BUT his Soul Patrol fanbase is surely more rabid than hers as well (I’m assuming that most Taylor fans bought multiple copies of his CD the first week). However, Taylor’s CD is currently tanking in a big way, selling anywhere from 50 to 200 CD’s per week in recent months. He was unable to attract new fans outside his Idol fanbase, from the looks of it. Jordin has to appeal to non-Idol fans to sell well in the long run.
I guess TPTB really WERE waiting to promote Blake and his music in December after all. Kinda funny how so many of us were a tad worried the other day and then we see this schedule that Sawka posted, hee!
It seems like Blake’s got several of these Jingle Ball Bashes lined up, which surely has to be great exposure! And we all know the New Year’s Eve FOX gig is a big deal. So, why the hell can’t he come to Hartford for one of those Jingle thingies?? ;) My local station was one of the first to play “Break Anotha.”
Blake Lewis is coming to Nashville, FRIDAY, and Hosting our Jingle Bell! They are calling it Acoustic Christmas, and I knew it was going to be great— but he is going to be replacing Jordin, and Hosting!! *squee!*
