So what exactly do you have to do to get radio airplay these days? Hooking up with radio’s latest hot commodity seems to be Maroon 5’s strategy of choice for their new single, “If I Never See Your Face Again.” Rihanna recently went into the studio to add some guest vocals to the already sizzling (IMO) track from It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. hmm… about the maroon 5 and rihana thing it’s still a good song.. but I don’t really think she adds much to the song.. it’s fine the way it was before in my opionion but thats cuz I love maroon 5 and I’m used to jsut hearing adam sing….

Adding a ‘known’ makes it ’safer’ for the record execs to get behind a song. Its cover - in that if it doesnt do as well as expected, they can quickly deflect blame.
Doesnt Blake already have a song with Lupe guesting? Maybe “Know My Name” would have soared?
I’d vote for Amy Winehouse. Would love for Blake to work with her producer Mark Ronson, who is amazing.

I’ve been busy as hell lately and hopefully will have more time for the boards soon!! I’ve become a big Cook fangirl regarding Idol, LOL. Go Cookie!! ;)
Anyway, I wanted to comment on this since I was one of the few who suggested releasing “Know My Name” as the second single due to the Lupe Fiasco affiliation. I thought it might have helped Blake with the street cred, as Lupe is a respected rapper-hip hopper. I’m bummed that HMW hasn’t taken off but I also do not think the label has made any effort to promote it either. :/
I cannot stand Rihanna’s voice, I find it terrible and whiny so I doubt I’ll find her addition to the Maroon 5 song an improvement, ha!

Hey guys, sorry to be absent. Cool about a HMW ep. The label probably planned in advance that they wouldn’t plan on too much promotion, which is why nothing happened. It happens all the time. Look at Leona Lewis - from the beginning, they all decided she would be successful, and she was. There’s nothing wrong with the songs themselves on ADD. And I don’t think Blake’s image from AI is too terribly different from what he delivered on the album - if anything, the album is more “mainstream” than I expected. Not that that helped him!
Interesting. Not a fan of Adam or Rihanna’s voices, but their songs are super radio friendly. At times, though, I like the electro-vibe to Rihanna’s voice, which makes her stand out.
Thought I’d link to a NY Times article yesterday about Fueled by Ramen. Puts 290,000 copies in perspective, it’s not TOO terrible! Maybe B should sign up with them, as they’re Gym Class Heroes.

Hey Kilroy, good to see you. I would LOVE it if Blake could get on Fueled By Ramen. That would be an ideal situation for him, IMO. Bonus: Sam & Sluggo works with a lot of those artists! Blake has even been hanging out with some of their artists fairly recently, like the guy from The Cab (I think they’re on that label…) and William Beckett from The Academy Is. Interesting.

Kilroy– my Spouse has been very Grassy Knoll this year, and told me two weeks ago he feared for a Syesha/David A finale. Last night, with the JordinSparks-diva-treatment she got?? There is no doubt. It sort of sickens me.
Bully - it was obvious to me, that David A is still the producers choice, after the tongue bath he got.
But, on the topic, watching M5 do this song on AI tonight….I’m not totally crazy about the song, but I do like it much better without Rihanna. I didn’t think I could like it at all when I played the above clip.

I like that Maroon 5 song, but I don’t think I care for the Rihanna addition and I don’t think Adam Levine is a great singer live ;).
Nic– I don’t think I could stand it. But it’s like a train wreck, you just can’t help it, and groan in utter disgust. Thank God for FFWD. After last night esp, and the way they were talking about Syesha(it felt like, continually), I really do believe we will NOT get a David vs David finale. It would be okay if David A beat Syesha, but I don’t think TPTB want David Cook to win this thing. I just don’t. :-/
I am not ga-ga over Cook at all, but I do hate to see the manipulation. I don’t think voting will matter a whit. And FWIW, I felt bad with sweet Jason going home last night. He is a free spirit, and was nice to see every week.
