We were about 3 rows of people back from stage center…so we had a good spot. Blake came out and did a little beat boxing before Baby Bash. I completely agree with MemphisLisa…the rest of the concert was ok, but nothing amazing. Blake was definitely the best part of the evening.
When it was time for him to perform, I saw them move the drums out and then put down his loop pedals. I got all excited and told my friend he would be next. KJ came out, and they so could be twins! My friend even asked if they were brothers! MemphisLisa pretty much covered the performance, but I will say that Blake and KJ are amazing! They are so high energy and just fun!

So at the end of the set (short set, I might add), Kevin throws his drum sticks out to the crowd. I didn’t realize one landed right next to us. So my friend reached down and grabbed it and gave it to me. After Blake was done, we moved out of the crowd and walked around some. When we got to the other side of the room, we saw spiky hair and knew it had to be one of the guys. It was Kevin. So I went up and waved the drum stick and asked if he would sign it. He was so nice, left to go find a sharpie and came back and signed it for me. He also posed for a picture with me! So while he was signing it, Blake walked up. I asked him if he would get Blake to sign it, too. It was pretty cute. Blake put the stick in his mouth while he maneuvered his drink and got out a sharpie. He signed it “Love & Happiness, Blake Lewis.” Then I was able to get a picture with him!

It was a fun night…and well worth sitting through bands that weren’t that great to be able to get that picture! I can’t wait until his full band is out and playing smaller clubs (I hope). I think it will make for a much better concert and more intimate setting.
This morning we were eating some breakfast and saw Blake and Kevin walk by, I’m guessing leaving to fly out. So that was pretty cool.

Thanks for the recap! Sounds like such a great experience.
Loved Blake ’s outfit! He looked amazing!
He should always dress like this IMO. Very flattering.
Best style he has ever worn, heads down!
I agree Blake does look very good in that outfit! Thank you so much for reporting on how Jingle Jam went.
Blake looked very nice in the outfit indeed and I must give a thumbs up to Kevin’s shades! :D
Lori,
Thanks for the awesome recap and the pics too!
You’re welcome! It was fun! And I love Kevin’s shades, too! I keep looking at the drum stick and my pictures…it’s still kind of surreal.
Adorable recap! You and Blake look very smiley and cute. And…wow…I’m becoming a Sawka fangirl for sure….dang.
Lori,
Thank you for a wonderful recap. It sure looks like you had a good time. It is nice to have something tangible from the concert to remind you that it did really happen, isn’t it?
Was it a big venue or a smaller studio set? In your pictures it looks like the stage was short.
dear kevin sawka:
you! in my pants.
love,
me xoxo
p.s. bshorty, you can come, too. XD
Lori,
thanks for the recap and am loving your pics!! The twins look adorable. I LOVE B when he wears black, and it’s amusing how Kevin is wearing black too, lol.
Vixen,
I think you’ll be waiting in line with that request! ;) Sawka’s gonna have his own little harem soon enough.
Vixen baby I’m right behind you!
I’m in that line too.. lol… he has alot to choose from ;).
Vixen - I love your message to Kevin! *L* But as Nic pointed out, there’s already quite the line for Kevin…. Oh yeah, I’m there, too! He’s quite the hottie with the shades, wow.
Lori, great recap and great pictures! Wow, Blake looks great in that outfit - that’s my favorite style on him so far. :) He looks so good in black (as does Kevin).
Sounds like the show was still worth it to see Blake perform. And that’s awesome you were able to meet the boys. Thanks for sharing!
Kasia, it was a big room. I think it holds 1600 although there weren’t that many people there. The stage was big but during some of the acts, they closed the curtain. Blake and KJ performed in front of the curtain.
And Nic, they had quite the little harem going on last night. LOL They were fun to watch!
Ha I’m not in that line, You guys can have kevin he’s be a cool friend but I want Blake! He’s so*stares off into the distance thinking of the millions of wonderful things blake is* me and Blake are going to take over the world together!!! (welll after I meet him and say Blake do you want to take over the world with me!!!)
Lori thanks for the pictures. Good gawd they look good. That is by far my favorite look on him.
I’m sure they did:)
Lori - Thanks so much for sharing this with us!
I guess Blake hasn’t schooled Kevin yet about the requirement to carry a Sharpie with him at all times. ;o)
Gahh! ;-)
Thank you for the piccies!
Owww!!! I’m doing Christmas Card right now for my friends and teachers.. I cut my lip nad my tongue!!!
It’s so cute they do look like twins!!! and probally almost every girl in america wants to date them!
Lori, Lori…just what did you do to that man? Bshorty’s all red-faced and his tie is all crooked in that last pic in the blog post! ;-) Whatever it was…please share him with the rest of us!
Great recap and awesome pics!
ETA: Kevin is pretty handsome, too…particularly in those shades! I’m seriously going to have to find a way to get some Blake & band time…
Crystal J. I figure Kevin’s not used to people asking him for an autograph…of course, I could be wrong. Blake had 2 sharpies in his pocket.
Well, Laura, I’d tell you but… hahaha It was probably the fact that he had just performed and then was dancing to the other bands. I can guarantee you I had nothing to do with it. ;)
Laura, I’m right there with you.
Laura What do you mean by Blake and band time???
Speaking of great pics, Blake added a new album to his myspace.
Dani - I mean that I want to see them live again…I want to spend some time with them. Perhaps if I were to get lucky, I could meet all of them! :-)
Oh i wan to meet them too Laura!!! I almost met Blake at the idols live tour in Nashville but I didn’t have the pass and the security gaurd said he wished he could let me in but he couldn’t cuz he didn’t want to get in trouble and I cried my eyes out all night, and we talk top lots of people trying to get me in to meet Blake, atleast at the end of the concert tho I walked up closer to the stage yelled blake’s name and He looked at me (along with everyone on the floor) and waved to me and blew me a kiss!!!
I see Kevin also added a short Christmas greeting vid to his MySpace - looks like it’s from one of the shows…

And some photos as well, including this great shot:

Kevin’s addes some pics and vid to his MySpace as well.
I love this b/w shot of Kevin and Jeremy at the Tacoma Dome.
And a Christmas greeting video.
Memphis Lisa & Lori,
Did Blake sound like this on HMV (from the Columbus Jingle Ball)? (Star, please move this to the other thread if more appropriate). I think I understand the “mix” that Lisa referred to, the backing track is really loud, but what I could of Blake’s voice sounded very pretty and strong.

Yep, Kilroy, that sounds like the same thing we heard at Jingle Jam.
Hey Kilroy, I think it depends on where you’re standing in these venues. Odd answer, I know. Sounds like Lori was close to the stage. I was back out of the crowd. He actually did sound a little better where I was standing at Jingle Jam. Don’t understand why it would be tough to mix a backing track, a singer, and a drummer, but maybe it’s harder for the sound folks to mix than a live band? Blake still sounded incredible though!
One more thought, Kilroy. In the clip you linked to, Blake is asking to hear himself in the “mains” (or the speakers going out in the crowd). Normally a musician is worried about hearing himself in the monitor (speakers on stage), so he can sing on key, in time, etc. So maybe Blake was really trying to make sure his vocal was loud enough in the main mix to the audience. Smart guy!
(It’s also kind of sad that performers are at the mercy of a good or lousy sound crew.)
Speaking of KJ being a doll (and possible threat to B’s standing as our musical crush!), I stumbled on this video. I think it’s from the Sam’s Town Tunica gig that Lori and I attended. Lori, do you recognize the tree? You’ll certainly recognize the camera man’s giggle. Dead giveaway!

I thought this was cute. And I thought I posted it. So I apologize in advance if it’s in two places. But Blake and KJ were clearly having some fun with the tree and decorations at the Sam’s Town Hotel where they played Friday night. Looks like KJ is as big a camera ham as B. Do you recognize the background giggle? I just wish Lori and I were there at check-in or check-out time to witness the antics.

test
Yeah, I saw that video on his myspace page, but I don’t think it was at Sam’s Town. There are pictures of a couple of the band on Kent’s myspace page by that same tree I think. And I don’t remember seeing that tree anywhere at Sam’s Town.
But I could have missed it. :)
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article #8217;s Memphis Jingle Jam Recap at Team Plaid, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
