Okay, not really, but I did get some scoopage from him at the Elliott Yamin concert at the Orlando House of Blues tonight. For those who don’t know… Josh is currently touring with Elliott Yamin. He is one of two opening acts, and he’s very available to the fans afterward, so I got a chance to talk with him and ask him about the song(s) we’d heard that he’d written that Blake had recorded.
So, I heart Josh Hoge, and he deserves major props for talking to me about Blake at the concert. He totally didn’t have to, so that was really nice, I thought. So, in return, check out his myspace and add him as a friend. I did!
Between The Last Goodnight’s set and Elliott’s set, my roommate and I decided to get our last drink for the night. Well, we get to the bar, and there’s Josh Hoge standing right there. Nice! No work at all on our parts. So, we approach him, and I ask him as we’re taking a pic if I can ask him a question and he says sure. So… I lead in with “so I’ve heard that you’ve written some songs that Blake Lewis has recorded…” And off he goes… The gist of what he said, after the break!
He wrote two songs that Blake considered, but Blake only ended up recording one, and Josh knows it will be on the album, and thinks it might be a single (at first, he said the first single, but then kinda changed the wording of that to “a” single). I asked him what the title was and he said “Know My Name”. He said he originally wrote it with Ryan Tedder, and that he (Josh) was going to record it. But, since Ryan is producing for Blake, somewhere along the way, Blake heard the song and loved it. So Josh gave the okay for Blake to record it and the rest is history.
However, here’s a new twist - he said now, the guy from Gym Class Heroes is also getting involved - whether he meant that Blake rerecorded the original version to include a guest performer, or if there’s gonna be a remix, I dunno. But he said that the guy from Gym Class Heroes is involved in some shape, form, or fashion. I couldn’t quite make heads or tails of which scenario he meant there, and I didn’t think to ask for further clarification, but anyway, there you have it.
As I said… I heart Josh Hoge. Nice guy, GREAT voice, love his songs, and he’s definitely easy on the eyes. ;) Go listen to his music and add him on myspace. “360″ is my favorite. I totally identify.

W00T! I’m totally psyched about the single…and the entire album. To be getting this kind of info is freakin’ awesome! ASCAP lists Blake as the performer for a song called Break Another, does anybody have any info on that title? It also lists Ryan Tedder and Samuel J Watters as writers. Who is Samuel J Watters? I haven’t heard that name linked to Blake before. Oh, and Star, the link you gave for Know My Name lists Josh Hoge as the performer, is it old or perhaps a mistake?
i’m suddenly so excited about the single and all the news that have been spreading around about Blake’s album!! can’t wait!
LOL, I love the title Sarah! Thank you Josh!! <3
It’s probably been registered there for a while, so I’m sure it says that because at the time Josh was intending to record it.
Totally guessing here but Gym Class Heroes guy would be Sam Hollander, right? Maybe Josh meant that they tweaked his original version a bit with input from Sam?
Sam Watters used to be in Color Me Badd but is now a Hollywood songsmith. He’s married to AI Season 1 4th place contestant Tamyra Grey. I know he co wrote a couple of songs for Kelly Clarkson’s first album Thankful. He’s trying to become a male Diane Warren.
Thanks Star. Hee!
And thanks Charles! The name Sam Watters sounded so familiar, and I thought I’d remembered his name from an AI alum’s album, but I couldn’t remember who, so I was about to go google him. Heh. :)
Thanks for sharing the news. Thats great that he actually took the time out to talk to you about Blakes album!!!
Sarah,
Sounds like you got some good info from the concert! I’m so glad you had a good time!
Sarah I pulled up his my space, and yes he does have a great voice and he is very easy on the eyes. Great scoop:) So looking forward to hearing this album!
Thanks for a great report Sarah!
I am really psyched for what I am about to hear! Single tomorrow!
Yaay!
So Blake’s dad already confirmed that “What you Got To Lose” is NOT the first single. I wonder what’s the name of the new song?
Can’t wait!
