Also, Nigel is to blame if people are not as interested in the Season 6 Idols since he constantly performed verbal BJ’s on the guest singers he had on the show. :/ The actual Idols took back seat and and the celebrity mentors-singers were pimped to excess, resulting in no backstories.

I know Nic and that’s what stinks especially the fact that all of a sudden after 6 seasons of not being allowed to play instruments all of a sudden it’s ok. *shrug*

It’s like the curse of the runner up or something. I know Kat’s single didn’t get much love either and Bo’s, well you guys know. I guess it is the single, A.D.D. needs a second single release ASAP that the stations will play.

I know. The only runner up to be successful was Clay and that can be questioned. His success was just moderate, he never got Top 40 play and people in the music industry and show businness think he is a joke.

Anyways, Idol so far has only provided 3 Super stars:
Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Daughtry. All three managed to have several hits from their albums and attracted a massive audience beyond AI. That’s the secret to be sucessful outside the show. Blake needs that.

I always thought Blake was going to be in that list, but I guess that’s very far fetched . I remember at this point in time, last year Daughtry was already platinum after his record was released.

Blake has only sold 240,000 K? *scratches head*
I really can’t understand the lack of support from radio. I guess they are biased toward him, I remember my Top 40 station KRBE always being receptive towards Jordin and were kind of lukewarm towards Blake. Sucks.

Maybe the big stations just prefer to play Jordin’s songs and they are against Blake? I dunno.

I just know he needs a hit single soon to keep going, otherwise I am afraid his record will stall. Which is not fair, it is a great album. So unfair.

Also, I still think BA was the wrong choice for his first single. I hope things pick up in the future and that the label supports a second single and do a great quality video.

So is the HMW vid up on Kimmel yet? Oh it’s only Weds. so Ugly Betty isn’t till tomorrow, lol. Oh by the way thanks for having this blog teamplaid. I blame AI and the producers for not backing the contestants last season and several others. I am not ready to support another idol this season. I just want Blake to succeed. Well something has to happen soon.

    No Sue, not yet. :)

  5. 205 Butet Jan 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

I loved the newest performance right until he did the monkey noise. I like how they changed the ending of BA. Can’t wait till I see HWM.

LOL, on the PageSix article, I was on Ethan’s Facebook profile and his status was saying that he almost got arrested, and now I understand why. The two are crazy funny. Yeah I understand it was 1 in the morning, but its LA and its Hollywood, loud music and rambunctiousness is there all the time, so whatever..

  7. 207 Eileen Jan 9th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Would it be possible to have a tab that tracks sales of the album in the different countries in which it has been released?

I thought the Kimmel performance was the best performance of Break Anotha yet I’ve seen on TV. It was toned down in some respects but was throwing in some new vocal effects besides beatboxing. Maybe it is just my hearing, but was he throwing in “baby” here and there for a different effect.

Kimmel will typically give about 20 seconds of the second song. Most shows give much less. For these television appearances, I suggest cutting out the beatbox intro for HMW to get to the meat of the song. He may even want to do the chorus first so the TV audience hears the hook.

Another suggestion is to negotiate with the shows to cut the time on Break Anotha (my opinion is that Break Anotha is 25 secs or so too long) to get more time for HMW or another song selection. This could even be taken a step further which Blake will probably not be fond of because of his Idol experience, but here goes. Do two songs from the album with about 1:45 or 1:50 of each. One scenario is to sing HMW without the intro to get a chorus and verse in. Then after a break or in a segue (if practice performances make a segue a viable option) do the first part and the bridge of Break Another for the other song. The rest of Break Anotha sounds like a repeat of the first part. Think of it as using the time for longer samples of more selections. This way you target the Break Anotha strictly Top 40/Rhythmic audience and target the HAC/Top 40 market in the same amount of time that would have been devoted to one song.

As these TV appearances are grouped together, perhaps there are enough opportunities to try other songs besides Break Anotha to gauge audience reaction.

I hope he does HMW and perhaps even another song like Surrender on the View (Another segue opportunity). I think these would be more well received by the audience demographic I presume that show has than Break Anotha. The only time I have seen a portion of the View was when Blake was on, and I watched it on YouTube.

But Ethan lives in a quiet neighborhood, not Hollywood Blvd…but I’m not one to talk. Some of my parties…heh.

I’m on tomgreen.com now and they’re having connection problems, doh. He has said Blake’s name several times though.

  10. 210 Chrissy Jan 9th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

Okay, first of all, thanks again to Nic and others for listing ways to organize the fanbase. A big thanks to Star, PJ, & Sarah for all they do too. :clap_tb: It is greatly appreciated! I’m curious-I haven’t heard much about the Blaker girls lately-do they send out MS bulletins, etc? They did such an awesome job helping Blake during AI.

Now, for a rant. First of all, I try to stay very positive, and I really don’t stress about stuff. BUT, it seems that lately I’ve read more headlines for bad behavior instead of good out of Blake. That’s fine, and I realize I don’t actually know him, but I would love to see some great in depth interviews about him as a musician (not just, hey, when did you start beatboxing??) and hear more stories about the money he has raised for children’s hospitals, etc. I know that bad news catches more headlines than good, but still, sheesh! This is precisely why I stick to just Team Plaid- the bad stuff and naysayers just annoy me, haha.

Then the Simon article. Wow. I realize he isn’t known for being a warm and fuzzy guy, and maybe the article was quoted out of context, but it seems a little unfair to write off both Jordin and Blake already. Apparently, not selling 4 million copies makes you an immediate failure?

That being said, Blake is an awesome performer, and he was great on Kimmel, as was the whole band. Blake has a made a brilliant album, one that he had a hand in creating. So, here’s to looking ahead, shutting out all the negativity, and focusing on supporting Blake in all the ways others have listed.

  11. 211 Pam Jan 9th, 2008 at 10:18 pm

    Chrissy,

That’s why I stay away from the majority of boards myself! Very well said!

Well said Chrissy. Sometimes it is hard to shut out the negativity, but I’m trying:)

  13. 213 Chrissy Jan 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm

Thanks guys. :) I’m not bashing other boards though-even though Team Plaid is my favorite! Especially for providing all the links to insightful articles about Blake’s music.

Personally, that page 6 article cracked me up. A “spy” was reported as saying that Blake was being “inconsiderate and a smartass.” LOL. Seriously, Blake should be considerate of his neighbors like the rest of us. Especially with all the “spies” around….

  14. 214 Lori Jan 9th, 2008 at 10:55 pm

So do we have any idea for sure about Ferguson? I guess I’m gonna tape it (and probably stay up and watch it…man I’ll be glad when they finish the late night circuit…haha) and see.

    Lori,

Everyone is confused about this. Blake isn’t listed as a guest on the homepage for this week but when you click on that “get tickets link, low and behold, you see his name as a guest for tonight. He wasn’t listed as a guest for tonight on the Directv guide either for the show when I checked that. LOL

  16. 216 Lori Jan 9th, 2008 at 11:07 pm

Yeah, I think I remember he was originally listed on DirecTv for tomorrow but now he’s not. But he’s also not listed for the 17th.

OMG…the confusion is killing me! lol

  17. 217 Pam Jan 9th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

OMG…the confusion is killing me! lol

It’s killing everybody Lori! LOL PHJ sent out an email 2 days ago saying the appearance had been moved up to the 9th. That email came on the 7th of course.

  18. 218 music4me Jan 9th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

Re: The PageSix gossip. A musician…playing music…loud. Shocking! Granted, he’s probably not the quietest neighbor. Gotta watch out for those unnamed “spies” patrolling the LA neighborhoods. It’s unfortunate if he was inconsiderate but with such a “reliable source” the report can still be served with a grain of salt on the side.

That was a great performance on Kimmell — good staging, tons of energy, and the crowd seemed to like it.

  19. 219 ld Jan 9th, 2008 at 11:26 pm

My money’s on Ferguson for tonite! Of course, I’m recording and watching tomorrow anyway. It’s on way too late for me - gotta be up by 5:30! Send good vibes B’s way!!

  20. 220 Barbariba Jan 10th, 2008 at 12:18 am

Teresa, Jeremy’s girlfriend posted a bulltin about the Craig Fergeson Show. Now I’m not so sure they willbe on tonight. Anyone have any info?

    9 Jan 2008 20:02

    Subject: Tonight on Craig Ferguson…
Body: So, the boys taped it today, but I guess it’ll be aired at a later date, tba…

Sorry about the confusion, but I just found that out.

  21. 221 Crystal J. Jan 10th, 2008 at 12:26 am

Eileen - I like the idea of them doing two shortened versions of the song, but I wonder if the shows would be willing…

Chrissy - I too would like to hear more of the good news stories. Just let him talk about music, the hospital donations (maybe find out how much HAS been donated to them on his behalf…). Good idea too. I also have been avoiding the negativity as much as I can.

As for the noise issue, I’m not sweating that. Yeah, I think he needs to know that most people have to get up in the morning to work. I wouldn’t appreciate that as a neighbor. But dayum, if BShorty was partying next door to me, I’d hope to join in the fun, and call in sick the next day, lol. Seriously though, many years ago when I lived in a TH, I had a couple guys next to me that would blast their music on weeknights. It was actually very frustrating to me.

  24. 224 Crystal J. Jan 10th, 2008 at 1:11 am

Wow, that Blender review is just too “precious.” They suggest that Kevin is holding the drumsticks wrong? Well, if he is, and is amazing, then maybe everyone should follow his lead. ;)

  25. 225 Nic Jan 10th, 2008 at 2:08 am

Kevin must be a cyborg if he can kick that much ass holding his drumsticks improperly ;).

  26. 226 Isabel Jan 10th, 2008 at 2:41 am

Mike Shrieve, widely considered one of the greatest rock and jazz drummers of all time, thinks very highly of Kevin. So what if he doesn’t use the traditional, or match grip. He is a phenomenal drummer. Besides, the Blender blogger should take a long look at how Keith Moon (of The Who, one of the top 10 rock drummers ever!) - he holds both sticks at the very end, I’ve always wondered how he manages to produce the sounds he does, but there you go.

Looks like my zap2it listing was right after all.

  28. 228 maracaibo Jan 10th, 2008 at 11:19 am

    You see?
The monkey screaming thing is not working at all. He needs to stop doing that. Why don’t go back to the way he performed on AI?
Just saying… Those noises are not selling the song at all.

I think he needs to promote a ballad next.

  29. 229 robbo Jan 10th, 2008 at 11:26 am

One thing Blake has going for him is his solid performing and writing background. Back in the day that was all you had. You hit the road and toured incessantly and slowly built a fanbase. Eventually those fans called radio stations and requested songs and hopefully one day the band had a hit and broke through. Bands in the 70s that were huge like Kiss,Aerosmith,Blondie,Cheap Trick,Queen, etc. didn’t take off right away. It took years of constant performing. Record labels were patient back then too. Kiss put three albums out that didn’t sell well before they had a hit. Would that happen today? Labels don’t seem to nurture artists today. It’s all about the instant hit or you’re dropped.
Also, back then radio stations weren’t corporate-owned and were free to play whatever they wanted. The state of radio today is a crime and people should fight the Rupert Murdoch corporate takeover that’s still going on. Anyway, I just needed to rant a little.
It comes down to this: If Blake wants to be a star like JT that could be a problem….But if he just wants to be able to make a good living making music I have no doubt that he will. Personally I think success in the music biz is about longevity….sticking with it no matter what the charts say. Something tells me Blake’ll be making noise for years to come!

    ROBBO
ITA with your comment. I don’t know that Blake necessarily wants to be like JT. I think he will be happy as long as he gets his music out there and is able to tour and perform for live audiences. I don’t think being a “Pop Idol” is what he’s about.

  31. 231 Barbariba Jan 10th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

Does anyone know how long it takes for the Kimmel show to put up performances from the show? I just checked the site and HMW still isn’t up.

  32. 232 Reth Jan 10th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

hmm i was going to attend that performance BUT..couldnt get out of work!

  33. 233 Nic Jan 11th, 2008 at 3:40 am

No shit, I REALLY am dying to see “How Many Words” on the Kimmel site!! Is it up yet??!?!

  34. 234 Cindy Jan 11th, 2008 at 11:43 am

Blender wrote a critique of Blake’s Kimmel performance, heh.

    That reviewer needs to STFU.
I know.. Everyone has their own opinion, but don’t go staying that about Blake (and Kevin) and think we aren’t going to say anything.

I need to stop reading reviews.

I really want to see How Many Words on Kimmel, too. lol.
    Not up yet. :(

  35. 235 Nic Jan 11th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Grr, it’s still not on the Kimmel site yet! How long does it usually take for video clips to get posted there?? Can we e-mail someone about it to ask, lol.

  36. 236 Barbariba Jan 14th, 2008 at 2:42 am

Really! How long does it take for Kimmel to post the Pontiac Garage music videos? Blake’s performance still isn’t up.
