B was kind of calm in this one compared to the other ones. Hee! It was still a good one though. :D
i love all the bowties!! **oh so smexy** xD btw what is forbes.com??
Terri,
Forbes is a business/financial news magazine.
Thank you Team Plaid for bringing the interview. Even though it covered similar information to what he talked about in other interviews, I loved it. His admiration of Ella Fitzgerald was endearing. It just shows Blake’s versatility and that he can appeal to any type of audience.
Class act, and glad he got a chance to talk a little about his jazz influences.
I thought so too. I had heard him mention her before on Idol and it’s really sweet everytime he mentions her.
That was a really nice interview. It shows yet another dimension to him. It’s always great to hear him talk about his musical influences.
That was a REALLY nice find! Thank you star!
Is it me, or is he amazing when he’s softspoken like that??
Tour, with some solo on guitar and piano!!! YES! :-D
Thanks for bringing that interview here. It was me that posted the link on TWoP. Never in a million years would I think that Forbes of all sites would take an interest in Blake this early in his recording career. Someone in the PR team must have briefed Blake well - from the somber dressing to the subdued manner in the interview. For the younger fans, Forbes.com has a readership of over 20 million a month, and it’s audience have lots of financial and business clout. Helen Jonsen is an obvious fan!
I’m not sure if mentioning Bono is an act of luck or commercial savvy, but he must have scored some points as Bono is a minority shareholder of Forbes Media.
And since I’m a big fan of Bobby McFerrin, kudos to Blake for acknowledging how great a vocalist he is.
Thank you for finding it, Isabel!
Bully,
I agree. Solo on piano or guitar on the tour would be exciting to see.
This Forbes interview and reference to jazz influences reminded me also of his cover song of Fiona Apple’s “First Taste” which has more jazzy rhythm and Blake sounded fantastic doing it. I think it was featured in the pre AI Jet Deck concerts.
If you put your cursor on the bottom of the screen you will have 11 interviews with Blake, really cool!!!
This was definitely an “out of the blue” interview for Blake, but also quite a savvy one. Forbes does have a huge audience (here’s hoping that he’ll have a blurb in their magazine!), so perhaps some of the savvy business men and women of the world will make Blake a bit of a guilty pleasure for their drive home everyday! Blake was about as subdued and calm as he seems to get…was it just me, or did he seem like he was really itching to bust a move?! I do love the softer, more quiet voice though…I’d let him whisper sweet nothings in my ears all day long… ;-) and then a bit more at night! lol
Oh wow. He can’t really get much more amazing, can he? I’m glad he got that interview, that’s really prestigious.
This might be one of my favorite Blake interviews ever. He sounds so professional. ….and HOT. =D
Thanks, Isabel! Nice find! We appreciate it.
I love jazz and I love that Blake has those influences. I gave my dad a mixed “tape” of Christmas jazz tunes and he played it all week at full blast. Okay, he can’t hear (deaf in one ear), hence full blast, but still. :)
ETA: Ella is one of my faves, but I also love Billie and Nina as vocalists. :)
I think he is often subdued when he is speaking of music. It’s when he is talking about other things that he gets more antsy and ADD like. Usually when he talks about music, he is much more serious and this interview shows that quite well. He is totally serious and focused when it comes to the music side of his career.
Thanks for finding and thanks for bringing over. I don’t go to TWOP anymore so it’s good to see these things here
What a nice (albeit random) interview…finally an appearance where the host didn’t demand any beatboxing!!
Kim,
It certainly was! Kinda refreshing for a change.
Well, she did mention the vocal gymnastics of Ella and Bobby, though. ;-)
Any insight into how this interview came to be?
This is one of my favorite interviews of Blake. It shows just how much he loves music to me. I am a Jazz lover and have always thought Blake would be amazing in Jazz. When he said Ella Fitzgerald was one of his influences on AI sold me as a fan. Then when I saw his pre Idol video I was a complete obsessed fan. Emotional Waterfalls when he just plays it on piano is very Jazzed influenced and why I love the piece. Thanks for bringing this over so we could discuss it.
Here’s another good interview

Great article/interview! lol…yeah I probably would’ve been a little pissed when I saw his audition footage as it aired at the beginning of the season. I suppose that’s what they call “casting” in Hollywood, tho.
Oh my, Blake on a piano or guitar in concert….that’s perfect!
Thanks for the article Lisa! Lots of good stuff in there. Pushing HMW to be a single - smart choice to me. Even the haters admit it is a good song. And, there are 4-5 more songs, some of which may show up in a European release. Me wants!!! I wonder if one might be this song I found at ASCAP the other day: “Love or Torture” (or “Please Don’t Stop”), Blake Lewis & Ryan Tedder. Makes me think of WOWY…
Lisa
Thanks!
ugg i read that he performed Sunday Morning that pisses me off that they didn’t record it.. that’s my favorite Maroon 5 song ever!!! grr *gets really mad at people for editing Blake*
hmm…this was a mighty calm interview. It is always nice to get some new video!
This is completely off topic, but I am looking for a piece of Idol video. I just know that one of you will know where I can find it! I think it was an American Idol Extra interview montage. It is the one where the S6 idols talk about their ideal date or romance or something like that. Does anyone know what I’m talking about and where I could find it?
Dani - they couldn’t record it because they didn’t have permission from M5 at that time to have any of their songs appear on the show. B wanted to do that in the audition, so the camera had to be turned off.
Crystal J
I know but I’m a teen and can be very idon’t know upset by things IDK!! Steph I tghink I know what your talking about but I’m not sure I think you could find it on youtube tho! (I hope that helped a little if any at all)
Random for today- I like a 15 year old guy I think he likes me back his sister and her boyfriend tried to trick him under mistletoe with me.. (man I wished it had worked!
I love this interview so much, I keep watching it! I love his subdued manner, but you can still see those bubbles of excitement popping up from the surface. I could watch him talk about music for days. He’s like a very hot, very hip music professor.
Yay, it’s nice to wake up and find another good interview! Thanks for the link, Lisa. I would hope that the label wouldn’t need that much convincing from Blake to make “How Many Words” a single after the download numbers it posted the first week out.
Lisa,
I agree with everyone else, thanks for giving us a really great interview!
I have to agree with Star about HMW, I think it would be an excellent 2nd single choice. You know when the bashers like the song, then you know it’s a good choice. LOL In some ways, I think it would be a better 2nd single choice than the fact of BA being the first single. Going back to what was said in here a couple of days ago, about having a good crossover single, HMW seems to be the type of song that would fit the bill more so than BA does even though I love BA.
I think the download #’s of HMW convinced me as well.
wow..to be interviwed by Forbes..Koodo’s to Clive..they must think Blake as an articulate, intelligent artist and a good representative of AI..also that is he not a “one trick pony”..they more interviews reaching all types of audiences, the better! Can’t wait for tonight
finally I am back, and I greet civilization with open arms.
It seems I havent missed much.
Thanks for the interviews.. I missed Blakey..
Yay! You have been missed! :D
Butet
yay your back I missed you!!!
Guys I talked to my friend (he’s in music promotions and stuff) he sadi HMW would be a pretty good choice but he sadi it would actually be better togive the audience something new… unexpected, because alot of people have already downloaded the song… who would go and download it a second time even tho thay really love the song???
My friend confused me a bit cuz he’s 20 and I’m just 13… (he saidf I was like one of his music advisors tho cuz I introduuced him to the music known as Blake!!! and he loved it.. ha also said I’m his adopted little sis.. )
I think HMW would be a great single tho!
LOL blossom! I said that just last thread!! LOLOL! ITA, fwiw.
This soft spoken interb=view gives me hope, for more scaled back piano, and solo guitar looping bliss. That EW vid is something that made me appreciate him a little more, recently. I like the thoughtful vein of things.
Dani,
well, not *that* many people have downloaded “How Many Words” because it was never officially released as a single. However, the fact that it was getting some downloads despite NOT getting airplay is a very encouraging sign and indicates that it may not be a bad choice for a single. I’m wondering why Blake is trying to convince the label to choose it as a single, or rather… what songs do THEY have in mind?? I suspect that Arista might be interested in releasing “Know My Name” (due to the hip hop and Lupe collaboration) and “I Got U” (very pop, fits into a Top 40 format).
That Forbes interview was about the most subdued you’ll ever see B! ;) But he was still cute and he’s pretty serious about his music anyway.
A little OT, but Blake-related nonetheless - I gave a copy of ADD to a coworker for our Christmas gift exchange. I asked him today what he thought of it and he said he liked it A LOT. :-) I squeed just a little inside! lol
Laura,
Wow, and this was a MALE who liked it ALOT?? ;) I’m encouraged that SOME guys seem to be won over.
I had asked one of my male friends if he had wanted the Blake CD for Christmas, and he said no.. lol… he kinda liked B on Idol but I’m not sure if it was enough to want his album. Maybe he’ll change his mind if he gets to hear his music!
hey Nic… Blake said in an interveiw I read he had extra songs he might put in the europe edition of ADD… does a single have to be a song off the cd???
ahhh yay I’m in times square right now very close to the stage on the side!! I can’t believe this…. Anything for Blake!!
You lucky woman you! LOL Hope it’s not too cold there. :D
Laura,
Wow that’s awesome to hear that a guy loves the CD! :D That’s something we haven’t heard too often have we? LOL
Nic,
That wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I would love to see Blake be able to release HMW, but KMN could work in B’s favor as you mentioned, because of the Lupe colab. and “I Got U” might even be a good possibility down the road as well. With some of the sugary pop of some of these acts that we hear enough to make our ears bleed, lol I think that song would be just as good a fit as those others IMO.
Greeneyes! Have a good time– and send him love from all of us.
(sending warm thoughts!)
aww thanks guys!!! Yea it is quite frigid hahaha but its soooooo worth it! :) I cant wait for Blakey!!!
My husband loves the CD also. He is into a lot of industrial music, but also likes jazz and blues and thinks Blake is very talented. So does my male cousin…you just aren’t going to see them come on here and gush about him, but they like it too.
Thanks Pam and dani. Missed everyone at TeamPlaid.
I wasnt allowed to even bring an Ipod to the country, so I had to go on memory for all the songs. Oh I love inhaling Blake insanity again.
