Discussion - Top 6 Performance

Discuss Blake’s top 6 performance here!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT TEXT TO 5709 - ONLY TEXT TO 5703. 5709 IS NOT IN SERVICE. BUT YOU CAN STILL CALL 1-866-IDOLS-09.

VOTE FOR BLAKE TONIGHT! 1-866-IDOLS-03 (1-866-436-5703) and 1-866-IDOLS-09 (1-866-436-5709). AT&T/Cingular customers can text votes to 5703 and 5709. Remember that phone lines are open for 4 hours tonight instead of the regular 2.

As noted below, the show will not be live tonight (it was taped last night), so thanks to many great spoiler resources, we do already know performance order and that there will be two lines open for each contestant. These are the correct numbers for Blake for tonight.

For every vote cast tonight, AI’s corporate sponsors (AT&T and Coca-Cola, along with ExxonMobil and Allstate) will make a donation to African and American charities, in conjunction with Idol Gives Back. So vote, vote often, and VOTE FOR BLAKE!

Friendly reminder: If you want to talk spoilers, please either preface it with a “spoiler alert” disclaimer or keep that discussion in the “Save the Beatboxer, Save the World!” thread below. There are a few people out there who don’t like to know everything ahead of time (I’m sure they worry less than I do, heh.). :)

Enjoy the show!

GO BLAKE AND GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the DI update, Erinn. Do the lines really shut down at 1 am? I’ve been nonstop on the blackberry for the past hour and a half and just stopped. Now at 1, I’m just getting busy signals.

OK, now must finish all the work I have to do tonight…Fingers crossed, everyone.

    And get some sleep!

  2. 52 RollTide Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:05 am

Just had to pop back in to say you go Sarah! I needed that laugh (what you posted to Nostradumas) before I went to sleep. :)

  3. 53 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:15 am

You’re welcome RollTide. I mean, I know he/she/it meant to say Phil, but puhlease. Get the name right.

And Tasha, yeah, when voting ends, the lines go busy. :)

Good job everyone! We’ll see how tomorrow pans out, but I’m feeling pretty good about it. :)

  4. 54 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:18 am

Tasha, you have 4 hours for your time zone. The last one is Hawaii.

Who is this nostradamus you all keep talking about?

I’m feeling ggod too…but I’d feel better if Phil weren’t ahead of Blake…grrrr

  5. 55 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:18 am

Hey Tasha - welcome!! Glad you delurked, and even better, voted! :)

I just got done…I can’t believe I just spent 4 hours doing that. He BETTER be safe. I have no clue how many votes I got in, other than to just say hundreds. And I texted all of mine, so my votes aren’t reflected on DI. Heh. I also managed to get my mom to vote for an hour, which isn’t much but is way more than usual.

Now that the hard work is out of the way…his performance almost moved me to tears tonight. I definitely think that Blake is the only one that really, truly captured the mood of the occasion. And the vocal was delivered perfectly. I really don’t know what Randy’s expectations were. I totally noticed how disappointed Blake looked after Randy’s remarks. He probably felt a little bit like this :wallbash_tb:

And yes Rickey, if you’re reading here - you rock! I missed Sanjaya tonight.

Okay, now to get some sleep.

  6. 56 jenlar Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:22 am

Thanks for the fun tonight, y’all. Four hours of dialing… we made our boy proud! He’s not going *anywhere* if Team Plaid has anything to do with it!

Go West Coast! Pick it up from here!

    GO BLAKE! :clap_tb:

  7. 57 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:28 am

Erinn, Nostradamus is a pot-stirrer poster at MJ’s who hates Blake. So, I dish his sh!t right back out to him (I guess it’s a he).

Like I said, I know the comment I responded to tonight was about Phil. But he needs to get his f’in names straight.

  8. 58 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:37 am

Okay, I’ve not gone to bed yet. I just saw a couple of cool things at The Blaker Girls Livejounal community.

Thing 1 - the MTV News thing we heard about a couple of weeks ago. Here are the airtimes for that:

    MTV
    Wed 4/25: 450am, 550am, 650am, 750am, 850am, 950am, 1250pm

    MTV2
    Thurs 4/26: 430am, 530am, 730am, 830am

    mtvU
Every :45 past from 745pm tonight through 645pm tomorrow night

    (anybody get mtvU?)

Thing 2 - Blake has a celebrity playlist on iTunes (as do the rest of the Top 6). I’m blanking on how to get the direct link from iTunes at the moment. But you should be able to find it from the main iTunes store page. One of the rotating ads at the top has the AI logo, so just click that one.

ETA oh I kind of love Jordin for including John Mayer’s “Gravity” on her playlist. :)

  9. 59 Juan Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:51 am

Go West Coast! let’s keep our boy safe

    Here’s Blake Itunes playlist

    Omaha Style-311
    Running down the way up-BT
    Beachcoma-Hybrid
    The first taste-Fiona Apple
    Walkie Talkie-DJ Shadow
    100% Dundee-the roots
    Getting in the way-Jill Scott
    I’ll Fly Away-The Mob Law
    Start Again-Duncan Sheik
    Independence day-Elliott Smith
    Leave Me alone-Michael Jackson
    Hide and seek-Imogen Heap

    Interesting choices :)

  10. 60 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:03 am

I pretty much love the playlist, and the fact that he loves Duncan Sheik and all of the others but…it’s the MJ song that makes me go hmmmm

Am I bad for laughing because Phil apparently thinks The Fray is Chris Sligh’s band?

  11. 61 jenlar Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:09 am

OK… here are some quick screenshots of tonight. Sadly, he had those puppy eyes most of the time. *cries*

  12. 62 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:14 am

OMG Erinn. Surely he was joking. Phil is phunny, you know. *hides from Sarah*

edit: Maroon 5 fans! “Makes Me Wonder” is up on iTunes finally!!!

  13. 63 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:27 am

I wish he was. Is she a Phan? (Sorry) I don’t dislike the guy. I just feel for him because he seems like he’s trying too hard - and failing too often.

I love the new Maroon 5. Thanks!

  14. 64 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:38 am

No Erinn. She doesn’t like it when I say phunny. :p

  15. 65 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 3:05 am

    Ah. Hee.

I think I’m going to listen to some Duncan Sheik and try to sleep. G’night star.

  16. 66 Karen Apr 25th, 2007 at 3:09 am

Erinn, Don’t sweat Phil being ahead of Blake right now. He is the only contestant without a clear vote splitter. Melinda, Lakisha, and Jordin split votes while Blake and Chris split votes. If Lakisha or Chris is voted off there will definitely be change in the tides. Plus Phil has the support of Votefortheworst.com. They might get him to the top four.

  17. 67 Mars Apr 25th, 2007 at 3:20 am

I’ve just seen the show. OMG. Blake is super-cute! He’s been the cutiest all along, but tonight, he looks super(xmillion times)-cute! I hope he’s safe!

  18. 68 Hanna Apr 25th, 2007 at 5:53 am

Wohoo.. Blake did good and so did you guys!

  19. 69 RollTide Apr 25th, 2007 at 7:16 am

Star! Thanks for letting us know about Maroon 5. I’m off to check it and Blake’s list out. :)

If Dial Idol is right, and Chris goes, it will be good for our Blake. :)

  20. 70 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 7:30 am

Star, lol. Have I said that before? Most of the time I say anything in chat, I’m just off-the-cuff anyway. LOL. That’s the problem with chat - no self-edit. Heh.

But yes, I am a Phlake. Much better than Cake, IMO. :)

*crossing fingers, toes everything that it’s Chris tonight*

  21. 71 bean99 Apr 25th, 2007 at 8:06 am

I think it’s either Chris or Phil tonight. I’d be happy with either. I just want Blake to be safe right away so I can relax.

  22. 72 maracaibo Apr 25th, 2007 at 8:20 am

    Star:

I lobe the new song from Maroon 5 too! So happy it is on I-Tunes already.

I bet Blake really digs that song. I can see him making similar music like that in the future and selling tons of records.
Blake was #2 on Dial IDol when I went to sleep and now Phil & Lakisha are on top of him? Oh well.. I just hope Chris R finally goes home. I couldn’t stand his song last night. Sorry.

Blake did so well. He has to stay!

  23. 73 lady_iriska Apr 25th, 2007 at 8:37 am

I don’t get DI math anymore.

Blake is higher then LaKisha on “total number of votes” list with both lines, he’s also higher on “busy % list”, and yet LaKisha is higher on the overall ranking list?
    Yeah, don’t get it…

  24. 74 jenlar Apr 25th, 2007 at 8:50 am

I tried to post these last night but they’re still not showing up!

Here are some quick screenshots of tonight. Sadly, he had those puppy eyes most of the time. *cries*

  25. 75 jenlar Apr 25th, 2007 at 8:56 am

I really don’t see how DI could have any reliability because *usually* that sort of phone system funnels all of the calls into one big place. Then, the calls are sorted (or counted, in this case) depending on which number you dial. So basically, if the phone lines is busy for Blake it’s *also* busy for everyone else. Does that make sense?

Anyway, Blake did great so *I* think that he’s not going anywhere!

Edited to add: Ohh my posts with the pic links are “awaiting moderation.” Sorry for the double post, but I can’t seem to edit!

  26. 76 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 9:10 am

I don’t know either how the DI math works once they start opening more than one phone line… it’s really weird. But, I thought one way to look at it would be to just add the busy percentages together from each line and see what we come up with (mathematicians, don’t kill me). So, I did that. Here’s what it shows:

    Jordin - 72.18
    Phil - 60.34
    Blake - 56.81
    Melinda - 55.73
    Lakisha - 51.77
    Chris - 47.94

It really surprises me that Jordin is SO far above everyone else (proving that the pimp spot, with proper pimping, works), and also that Chris is really firmly sitting in the bottom spot.

BUT… you also have to remember that DI has no way to measure text votes, and those can make a big difference, since texting is becoming more prominent now. I know *I* sent in a ton of texts last night because I could barely get through on either line the first 2 hours of voting. So, if Chris had a lot of text voters, he may pull it out and Lakisha may be going home. Regardless, I think those two will be bottom 2.

I wonder if they are going to separate them into 3 groups of 2 like they did last year. Hmmmm….

  27. 77 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 9:13 am

Lady Iriska - also remember that the overall ranking list takes into account the number of votes that were actually cast using the DI software. It’s that factor PLUS the busy signal results. So, if you have one contestant who has more voters using the DI software than others, they are gonna get a little bit of a push from that.

From what I understand, the most accurate page to look at is the busy signals page. And again, as I said, with the rising prominence of text votes, you never really know about that page either.

ETA: Jenlar, I just approved your comments, so the pics should be showing up now (though they’re not for me, but I think that’s b/c of this work computer.) Let me know if they’re not.

  28. 78 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 9:52 am

Good morning peeps. I was looking around at different sites and some people are speculating the shocker Ryan teased at the end of the show is that no one will be eliminated tonight, with the IGB votes carrying over to next week. What do you guys think about that?

  29. 79 pj Apr 25th, 2007 at 10:23 am

Oh, Star. I don’t like that idea at all. Also, wouldn’t that push the finale back a week?

  30. 80 lady_iriska Apr 25th, 2007 at 10:23 am

Sarah, yes, i understood this. But Blake is higher in both lists - he has more votes cast with DialIdol and his busy % is higher. So both marks are higher then Lakisha for example, so how is he lower overall?

  31. 81 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 10:38 am

Oh, Star. I don’t like that idea at all. Also, wouldn’t that push the finale back a week?

Well, they could do a double elimination next week, or have a 3 person finale.

  32. 82 maracaibo Apr 25th, 2007 at 11:01 am

Why is Phil suddenly becoming so popular?
I hate that. In the first weeks he was always in the botton three and now all of a sudden he is one of the favorites to win.
What kind if record is he going to make? Country…Just saying..

I really just hope that Blakey is SAFE tonight. He deserves it, it was a beautiful heartfelt performance.
And yes I voted the whole four hours, it’ was worth it. Blake has to be in that finale. Damn it.

I also hate when TPTB are so obvious with Jordin bein TCO.
If my Blake is in the bottom two or three tonight I am going to cry. Really.

  33. 83 pj Apr 25th, 2007 at 11:01 am

lady_iriska, I think DialIol uses some algorithm to determine the “dial idol score” that takes into account population, etc. I’m not worried about DI right now.

Star, I guess they could do that. I still don’t like it. I want someone gone. Chris R would be perfect. LOL.

I opened tonight’s discussion thread, btw.

  34. 84 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 11:25 am

Phil is doing well with votes because he’s been giving good performances lately. Simple as that. He’s also not likely to be vote-splitting with anyone.

I like Phil a lot. Blake is my overall favorite, but IMO Phil has always been the strongest male voice this season. I have gotten 3 of his official downloads and they are very very good. He has potential, and country is a HUGE market. Hello, Carrie Underwood? Bucky and Kellie are enjoying moderate success too. I’d buy his album.

People have the ability to rebound. And his performances the past 3 weeks have been pretty strong. Diana DeGarmo was in the bottom 3 numerous times her season and she made the finale after she turned the power on around the top 7. Justin Guarini was too. Hell, Ruben and Fantasia were even there a couple times, and they WON. I’m just saying it’s not outside the realm of believeability.

I do think that Phil is just holding on from week to week, and a bad week could send him home. But to me, it’s not surprising that people like him and think he has a chance to end up near the top. Besides, both Lakisha and Chris need to go before him anyway. Which would put him in the top 4, exactly where I want him finishing (and this is coming from someone who had him going out at #11 pre-top 12 performance week!).

  35. 85 star Apr 25th, 2007 at 11:33 am

I didn’t know the song Phil sang last night so his whole performance just went WHOOOOSH right over my head. I guess that’s one of the many things I like about Blake - he always picks songs I like! I’m more entertained by Phil when he’s joking around in interviews.

I remember when people were all mad when Phil made the Top 24 because everyone thought he took Tom Lowe’s spot. (I was one of those mad people :lol_wp: )

  36. 86 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 11:51 am

Oh Phil wasn’t the one I thought took Tom’s spot. Heh. There were a couple other people *coughPaulKimcough* who should not have made it.

I always enjoy Phil’s performances. I like his recorded voice a lot. Watching him is a different story, but we don’t watch people on radio or cd’s.

  37. 87 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:42 pm

Here’s the link to the way DI calculates. I still think his math is off this year. The raw number are much more acurate than the scores.

    http://www.dialidol.com/asp/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16

I’ve heard the “no elim” rumor being tossed around too. On one hand, it doesn’t make sense to have a show about giving, and then take something away. Plus, it would explain the fact that there only seems to be one theme for next week. On the other, a double elimination would be tough on everybody. Carrying over votes from this week could be interesting, but I hope they just scrap them and start over. I mean, what if someone who had a “great” performance has a crap performance next week (I’m looking at you Jordin.) and vice versa. You could get tossed out just on this weeks vote alone.

ETA: I don’t think it was Phil who took Tom’s spot either. I’m not really sure, given the extreme controversy around Tom, that they ever even thought about putting him in the top 24.

  38. 88 Sarah Apr 25th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

I thought the raw numbers were only representative of the people who actually use the DI software though. That doesn’t seem like a very good representation of the entire country to me. Oh well. lol.

  39. 89 Erinn Apr 25th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Well, the raw numbers, vote-wise yes. It’s the raw busy signals that have been more accurate. Sorry for the confusion. That would include anyone who is dialing.

There was a great blog from a statistician about how smaller random samples can be more acurate than very large ones, given that it is difficult to get a large enough truly random sample of a voting base that large. Maybe I can find it again.

I have to agree with those who have said that DI has been thrown off by the increased number of - would you call them ports? - that AI has for the voting. Maybe that is why there hasn’t really been a shocker yet. When everyone who wants to vote for a contestant can get through, you get a more accurate count.

  40. 90 RollTide Apr 25th, 2007 at 4:45 pm

If they don’t eliminate anyone, they had better carry over the votes. I didn’t stay up for 4 hours voting for nothing.

Unless of course, doing so would hurt Blake, in which case, please scrap my votes. :)

I don’t know what to think of DI. They haven’t been all that accurate all year, but last week they were dead accurate, right?

I just want Blake safe. And I want to see him smile again instead of being nervous/disappointed.
