Well, ladies and gents… it’s finally the night we’ve all been waiting for. Finale performance night, and our boy is there. This is, without a doubt, the most important night of voting all season long. Our votes tonight could possibly help Blake become the next American Idol. I dunno about you, but that makes me excited!!!

We’ve seen countless blog posts and messages and so many other things over the past few days reminding us of why we fell in love with Blake in the first place. He has more than proven himself over the course of the season as a legitimate threat and contender for the crown and tonight is our chance to prove to him, and to America, that we have confidence in him.

Let’s do this, Team Plaid!

Tonight’s format is as follows: the “coronation” song, which was chosen by internet vote from songs submitted for AI’s songwriting competition, a song previously performed on the show, and a new song of the contestant’s choice. Click on the break below to read spoilers as to Blake’s song choices.

It’s been reported that Blake is bringing out the crazy in his clothing choices tonight, that his hair is back to blonde, and that he has some great things in store for us tonight. This is what we’ve waited for all season, y’all.

Vote for Blake, and let’s bring home the win for him!

Spoilers for Blake:
Song Previously Performed - You Give Love a Bad Name (Bon Jovi week)
Contestant’s Choice - She Will Be Loved (Maroon 5)
The title of the coronation song is not yet known, but it is heavily speculated to be a song called This is My Now. We shall see. :)

Thanks, mj.

    Hey guys one more thing:
The best article on BLAKE ever!

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18809969/

They are spot on!!! Go read!!! You will love what they have to say about Blake.

  2. 102 Tara May 23rd, 2007 at 11:28 am

As much as I hated the coronation song, I actually like Blake’s version more than Jordin’s. When Jordin sang it, it sounded like Broken Wings Part II. At least Blake was entertaining. No matter what, I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM, I LOVE HIM. I will buy his record in a second.

And on a bright note, Blake’s probably relieved he will never have to sing that song again, let alone be embarrass to release it as his first single.

  3. 103 Sarah May 23rd, 2007 at 12:07 pm

Blake will be signing with whatever Sony/BMG label that Clive decides he fits best with. If Clive doesn’t sign both top 2 finishers this year, it would be a first ever. Even Justin Guarini and Diana DeGarmo got contracts with Sony/BMG.

And on a bright note, Blake’s probably relieved he will never have to sing that song again, let alone be embarrass to release it as his first single.

I thought the exact thing. I’m glad he won’t have to have it tied to his name as his first single. Ick.

Thanks for the read, maracaibo. :)

ETA: This last part tells me that this guy is either a really good debater, or he just gets it.

His style — and he has a definite, developed style, while Jordin just has raw singing talent — makes his music stand out.

If America betrays him and he doesn’t win, he’ll be far more commercially successful than Jordin without being a complete sell-out, even if he does cite 311 as his greatest influence.

Blake is the finalist who can deliver on tour, on the radio, and in record stores without being a complete sell-out, manufactured, neutered Ken doll of a pop artist. For that, he should win.

  4. 104 Lisa May 23rd, 2007 at 12:13 pm

In his interview with Ryan Seacrest this morning I could be nuts but the way he talks it sounds like he isn’t even sure himself about being signed. I can’t figure it out his tone. He mentions how he wants to finish the CD he started before AI and says he hopes for a deal, then Blake, Ryan and Jordin start laughing. Could it be since he’s not familar with much of AI he doesn’t know that 19 usually signs the runner-up?

    Great article from MSNBC! Thanks.

BoB, welcome. I disagree that Blake threw the competition last night. I also believe some of his comments about thinking Jordin would win were taken out of context in the press. You should listen to the actual audio and decide for yourself if you haven’t already. I believe Blake has a very zen-like attitude and nothing he did last night was out of character from how he has handled this entire process. He stays true to who he is and that is one of the reasons I admire him so much.

Oh, and I adored the last outfit!

Y’all, this is just the beginning for Blake! The best is yet to come!

I’m proud of him and proud of all of us for helping to get him this far!

  6. 106 Nic May 23rd, 2007 at 12:26 pm

Oh my, I haven’t had internet since Monday night, I feel so out of it. So much discussion…

I loved our boy last night (even when he had to sing that dreadful coronation song). Regardless of what happens tonight, I’m proud of him and proud to have been able to share in this journey. He’s a special, unique artist and I know we’ll see great things from him in the future.

Botton line - it was a terrible thing to do to those who supported him. My son and I had a hugh emotional investment in this young man. We have a right to be angry with him.

I know we all have our own opinions, and I respect that, but this comment just seems so selfish to me. This is Blake’s life; it’s not about us.

Hey Guys!!! Sarah and PJ, I got close to 900 votes in!!! An old college friend of mine got to go to the Finale, her aunt knows some peeps, anyway she called me late last night and she said the crowd went crazy for Blake, she said the crowd gave him more love than Jordin. She thinks he came across better live than on TV, she is going to watch the show on tv and get back to me.

  8. 108 Sarah May 23rd, 2007 at 12:41 pm

YAY! Go vegas! I got about 1200, I think. We did him proud.

Good to know the crowd was wild for him. Hopefully, they all went home and voted too. :)

  9. 109 pj May 23rd, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Vegas, that is awesome!!! Your friend is so lucky! Glad she had fun and keep us posted on what she thinks of the televised version.

  10. 110 jenlar May 23rd, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Just a reminder… this is the last day for downloads from AI.com. Guess that means there won’t be a studio version of “She Will Be Loved”

    *cries*

Also, if I get some spare time in the next few days, I’m going to post commentary from the local news on youtube. It’s nothing great, but neither is 99% of the stuff on youtube :lol_tb:

  11. 111 jenlar May 23rd, 2007 at 1:08 pm

omg… Slezak did NOT say to drop the “w” and call it “This Is My ‘No’”!!!

    Go read. Now.

  12. 112 pj May 23rd, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Cool Jenlar. I’ve been trying to post the performance vids out front, but Wordpress is giving me fits. I think I’ll go to lunch and do it later unless someone else beats me to it.

  13. 113 Tara May 23rd, 2007 at 1:20 pm

omg… Slezak did NOT say to drop the “w” and call it “This Is My ‘No’”!!!

I don’t get it. Is he just being snarky about the song?

  14. 114 maracaibo May 23rd, 2007 at 1:20 pm

Cute Top 2 interview with Blake! He is so adorable.
He has to get a record deal for sure!

    Check it out:

Once again, I just love him!

  15. 115 Hoppy May 23rd, 2007 at 3:34 pm

Last night was a Jordin pimpfest?

Oh, absolutely! Yes, Simon called her shrieky, but that was the ONLY critique I heard about her last night. On the same song that she was “shrieky” she also left out a couple of words which threw her off the tempo and NO ONE said a word. Randy, a producer and musician who should know better, failed to call her on it.

Her version of Broken Wing was IN NO WAY better than the original, hence more blatantly disgusting Randy Pimpage. In fact, I’d say that she actually did Broken Wing better on Country week a few weeks back. It just didn’t have the same ‘wow’ for me last night, and she didn’t seem as emotionally connected to it. (IMO, she should have sang I Who Have Nothing THIS week instead of last week.)

And all the reminders that this is a “singing competition”? Totally directed to the voters to remind them to VOTE JORDIN, since the media and judges have put plenty of emphasis on Blake being the “entertainer” and Jordin being the “singer”. If it were a “singing competition”, then Melinda Doolittle wouldn’t have been in the audience last night, she would have been on the stage.

I was expecting Jordin pimpage to the extreme, but like I said earlier on this post, I totally lost it when Randy said she was better than Martina McBride.

  16. 116 Iris May 23rd, 2007 at 4:00 pm

Oh, Hoppy, I so agree with it being “pimp Jordin night”. It was so blatantly obvious. And if I had taken a shot of whiskey for every time they said “17!’, I would have passed out drunk before show’s end.
I loved how Simon called Blake on jumping during “This is my now”. He just has far too much energy to do a stupid emotions-sell song. Teehee! Even during a crummy song he is forced to sing, he is being true to himself.

  17. 117 Erinn May 23rd, 2007 at 4:14 pm

No one listens to Randy as a serious critique. He’s like Paula - a filler to provide voice to certain people. The only judge anyone - critics and fans - has ever listened to is Simon. It’s always been this way, and it didn’t suddenly change because Randy dissed your favorite contestant.

Simon hedged on Jordin. He publicly stated that as of, heck two days ago, he didn’t think Jordin was good enough to be in the finale. He called her on her shriekiness. Seriously, I am not a Jordin fan, but Broken Wing was pretty good. Not great, but good. Just like Simon said.

I’m not entirely sure how this can be a Jordin pimpfest if the one judge anyone listens to had to preface his “prediction” with a nod to the other contestant. He stated clearly that Blake had the best performance and then hedged when he said Jordin would win on voice. All true.

Blake does not belong to us. He did not enter this competition for us anymore than Taylor or Chris did last year. He can do whatever he likes with this time on Earth, and if you happen to like what he’s doing then support it. If not, then don’t. Whatever emotional - or financial or physical - investment we put into him or this show is our choice as fans. We are rolling the dice. Gambling that he will fulfill the potential that we believe is there. If you feel you’ve rolled poorly then the blame is solely on you. Not him. He owes us nothing. Not even the music that we love.

  18. 118 pj May 23rd, 2007 at 4:35 pm

I agree, Erinn. He doesn’t owe us anything.

I would argue that most sane people who try out for AI do not expect to win. At best, they hope to make it to Hollywood and then to the top 24. I’m sure their goals adjust as they make it deeper into the competition. Sure, some may set out to be OMG THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL! However, I bet most try out to get exposure and their careers going. Is there anything wrong with that? Absolutely not.

I think Blake falls into the latter category. However, I don’t think he ever went out on stage and deliberately tried to lose. That’s just not who I perceive him to be.

  19. 119 Tara May 23rd, 2007 at 5:00 pm

Erin, always the voice of reason. Thank you.

  20. 120 pj May 23rd, 2007 at 5:07 pm

I will say I think some people might listen to Randy. And I certainly think Jordin was over praised for her version of “This is My Now”. I certainly heard some bad notes, but she did sing it like she believed it, so I’ll give her that. LOL.

Okay cool, RollTide. Thanks! :) I’ll have to watch the show again.

No, no Sarah. That’s not what I meant. :) I know my opinion is probably different than a lot of people’s. I came into the show last night expecting them to declare Jordin the winner no matter what happened. So I was jaded. ;) I’m not trying to convince anyone of my opinion, I was just venting. I’ve calmed down now. Call it a lack of sleep, and the realization that if Blake wins tonight I’ll be totally shocked. I just wanted him to win so badly b/c I felt like he deserved it more than anyone else. I think I am way too invested in the show. LOL :)

I know of course that Blake will be fine no matter what. I just wanted him to have the title and the glory tonight. :)
