what is going on if Corporate office is pulling the plus…could it be that they will try a different approach rather than radio..maybe they will target the club scenes?

The Labels are hurting right now, and a lack of cash flow is translating into what we see here.Blake has some good people, but what they are DOING is beyond me. He is wonderful, and charming, and goodness knows he has been willing to travel and hit the circuit– but there doesn;t seem to be industry actually backing the effort. Maybe that’s an illusion, but even our radio contacts brave enough to speak have said, they are getting no Push.

I wonder what that means for the young talent in S7, with the changing climes of records? Will that they have been such a part of iTunes make a difference? Will they be the beginning of a new way of doing business? Is this the start of smaller concerts being the norm, like the Jingle Balls and the events this summer? Will it have to be a multi-faceted venue to fill an arena?

Radio for sure is a mystery to me. Every new song I hear on my Top40 that is wierd or overtly sexual, I just think what??

That is a nice picture of Taylor. I hope he has success for his next album also. I liked Taylor when he was on Idol (I know a lot of people didn’t). He made the show so fun to watch. He was a great performer. I always looked forward to what he was going to do. My favorite was when he sang Play that Funky Music, and at the end layed down on the floor, and then Ryan layed down also. That made for some great TV and great Idol. And who can forget the purple velvet jacket!

To me, the kids are so robotic this year. I disagree when they say that Idol is about finding the “Best Singer”. I think it is the whole package…singing, performing and being able to connect with the audience.

I am curious about the logic behind releasing the HMW REMIXES, and if any Plan there is, behind it all. There has to be a Plan, and so while I’ll be enjoying the music I also will be waiting to hear more.

I understand everyone has their own economics to consider. One suggestion is if you have some willing friends, perhaps these friends can chip in and together buy a CD and share it amongst themselves. A friend may not have $16 to spare, but she may have $4 to chip in.

Can’t hurt to send the idea to Apple. Commercials definitely help sell songs, like that one for the really slim laptop in the envelope.

Bully, I agree that this DJ was really nice and forthcoming with the reason why the song could not be played. I prefer hearing an honest response than getting a lame excuse, that many of us got, such as “I will see if we have it” or “It is so new” etc. What I am getting through my communications with DJs, I usually send emails when I request HMW, is that DJs whom I contacted liked HMW and wanted to play it but could not. It is really a shame that the airplay is dictated by factors that fans or listeners might not have control over.

I was pleased to find out that Sean picked one of my questions. I am looking forward to reading the entire interview.

I know I would be disappointed too if they allow Blake only this amount of time. I will be still going regardless of how long he will play, but I am only about 1 hour away from the venue.

On a related note, Clay Aiken released a blog today that I think should be mandatory reading for all fanbases, this one included. Somebody else will need to cut and paste it if they want it over here. Basically he tells his fans to stop blaming the record label and stop bugging the radio stations with multiple or out of state requests and just enjoy the music and settle in for the long term.

re: Harrisburg concert - Kasia, I hope you find out more details on the concert. The times, etc., have been very mixed up.

Unfortunately, the DJ’s do not run the music world and the only DJ’s that have power are the few big morning ones, the syndicated ones and the shock jocks….most of whom don’t have anything to do with music anymore. A few of the syndicated ones are a good bet if we can get the song on their playlist.

As for Clay, I don’t think I would read (and believe) anything the man says, so I refuse to go there and see what that is all about. I’ve met him and have no respect or interest in him at all. I do think he has a great voice, but have witnessed firsthand his A-holness (towards other people). I’ll stop there as I really don’t wanna upset his fanbase. Dude is talented, I will say that. He’s just not a very nice person.

Just curious, though, did he tell his fans to stop this when they were working their butts off the first few years of his post-AI career, or did he just say this recently…now that he doesn’t really need it anymore.

I seem to remember him letting them do their thing when he needed their passionate support back then and he is definitely reaping the rewards of a enthusiastic/loyal fanbase. He doesn’t need them to do this now, comparing that to B’s situation is not necessarily the right idea. If B were to say it doesn’t help him, and really only he would know that, then we would stop. His father posts here and knows what we are doing, if it were not needed or wanted, I think we would have been told that by now. Just my opinion of course and hummus and all are welcome to their own as well.

As for the concert in Pa, the station shows are not run by the local radio stations, they are run by promotion companies and companies such as Clear Channel and such, who are in contact with TPTB who sign on the artist’s to play. B’s record company IS involved in this as is his management. The rinky dink radio station that you tune into isn’t run by people there at all and neither are the radio shows. There are huge companies, who do nothing but put on these multi-artist shows all around the world, even the little ones like this.

These station shows are NEVER at the total discretion of the radio station and the station does not decide who plays in them or how long they play. They have very little say in this, just as they have very little say in what music they play anymore. You won’t hear most DJ’s say that though, but that’s how it works. It’s all coming from a place that has more money and more power….and that ain’t the little ole record station in your local area.

P.S. I’m sorry but I’m glad Jason is gone! He was good but he has been dwendling down and I don’t know whats been going on with him?

Blakes on the ADD Train campaign and we should get some news from Idolbored soon on move. We should be seeing alittle more of Blake in the news or radio. I think he said he was busy most of the month.

Thanks BigD for confirming and all that. I am looking forward to when Blake has a show near me. I think Spouse is over the jealousy thing, and has moved on to just thinking I am silly. I think he’d support a small field trip. :-) Nashville has so many nice spots, that when he gets here, he’s bound to find someplace to do one. TheRiver uses the GibsonShowcase, but they don;t own the thing! (That is WRVW for Call Letters, mediabase peoples!! SAM is WKLX)

Squeeze is coming and playing the Ryman Auditorium– and I thought about going until I heard they were $75 or something a ticket. *sigh*
Still, good group, nice venue. But there are more, lots lots more.

I can see what Hummus meant about us understanding what Clay said. We as fanbases get overwrought, but the artist himself(themself?) says Just Enjoy the Music. I have been trying to keep my own ability to help in perspective this week, and do what I can in good faith. No matter what happens with the label or otherwise, NOBODY can take away Blake’s talent. There will be more music, no matter what. He’s not going anywhere we can’t all benefit from, somehow. He was making music and stuff long before we knew him, and it will continue on.
This is just the beginning.

Anybody see Bo Bice last night and NOT think his second album was going to be good? I think a second album can be more Real than the exploration given in first attempts…and for those that liked the artist to start with, it gives you a reason to be excited, again.

Generally at these radio station concerts, all the artists have short sets. The line-ups are crowded so there just isn’t time for each artist to do an hour and a half set. So, there’s really no need to curse TPTB here. It’s just the way it is.

We can’t stay for the after-party because it’s 21 and older and my kid isn’t there yet. Also, the radio station really won’t tell you much. It’s not decided at their level. They just get the promo info and pass that on. I tried to make that point earlier, but I’m not sure how well it was said. I’ve been battling a migraine for the last two days and am just now getting relief, so I’m in a fog about what I’ve written the last two days..LOL

Also, Kate does podcasts on her MS page so that might be interesting on Saturday. Something to watch for.

I am still not sure if the other bands will start playing at 9 or 10. Originally, the starting time for the concert for Blake and Kate was advertised to be at 9 pm but ticketweb sent me an update, which I included in the earlier post, that the concert is to start at 8 pm. So it is possible that the starting time for Saving Jane was moved up one hour too. I guess we will have to be patient and wait till tomorrow and find out.

As I was typing this post, I was listening to 99.3 and the announcer just said that the door will open at 7 pm. Nothing about the starting time of the concert.

I hope you will get rid of the headache. The DJ mentioned to me that the place will be very crowded tomorrow.

I’ve always thought this all along. It’s a big monopoly, and only certain songs will get mass airplay while the other singles just languish on the charts.

Is there honestly any reason for me to be hearing “No Air” and “Bleeding Love” literally every hour on my Top 40 and HAC stations? I can’t be the only person who’s tired of these songs and don’t find them all that great for that matter, so why the f-k are they being shoved down my throat??? My only guess is someone higher up is basically pushing or telling the radio stations to play or else…

Needless to say, I’ve pretty much shunned Top 40 in particular of late and am listening to the rock stations more since they actually play a better VARIETY of songs. If the pop stations insist on playing the same crap over and over (usually r and b-hip hop stuff I don’t like), I refuse to listen.

Just a point of interest–While I was at the interview vid, I noticed in the sidebar the other vid interviews available from that same station. GavinDeGraw is listed as going to be at their concert, and he is coming around again here, in Nashville. I wonder if these red wht and boom series are like Jingle Balls, to be honest. If so, they’ve come up with a cute idea to feature the talents.
