IMHO he wasn’t crushed over BA’s sales…he was crushed over the fact that BA was chosen as the first single…that’s not a sales-related disappointment at all. It’s creativity. It’s control. It’s independent thinking and the ability to put out what HE wants out there. None of these things have anything to do with sales at all.

Im sure he would love to have a platinum record, don’t get me wrong. Who wouldn’t. It would be cool to see that many people enjoying your music. But if he considers that a failure, then he’s less of an artist than I think he is. I doubt that.

I truly believe the boys life is run by art and the ability to communicate with people live and the ability to meet and work with artistic people. From what we have heard he has impressed many people in the art side of this business. So, I would say he has been successful there already.

More record sales would certainly mean he is reaching more people, but it isn’t a necessity to be a success in art. Money has absolutely nothing to do with success in ART.

Also, just to make sure I remembered it correctly, I reread his blog and do not get the impression that he was crushed because BA didn’t sell well. He may use the word failure, but I think it had more to do with logistics than records sold.

    newduck,

When I read the blog, that was the impression I got also. It was about the failure of BA and not the CD and I have a feeling this is the way the fans who read that blog interpreted it as well. Very nice post. :)

Well, speaking for myself, I thought B’s comment was referring to the failure of “Break Anotha” on the radio, thus making it that much harder for “How Many Words” to be accepted.

I’ll be honest. I won’t be happy if the only type of music Blake puts out from here forward is electronica/BT-ish type stuff. I want another pop album like ADD. Yes, it’s all about me. I watched one of the videos from WMC and that was enough. That type of music just isn’t my style.

    star,

I suppose I’m selfish too. I loved seeing how energized and happy Blake was with BT but if I am truly honest with myself, I would love another pop album as well. :)

According to Chris Sligh, Blake’s goal for his album is 5 million, so I don’t know how Blake would not be crushed by the fact that he struggles to sell 300k. Sanjaya didn’t get the chance of a record deal, so there is no way to predict he will fail at this area or not. Blake, on the other hand, had major label support and came out from a 30 million viewer TV show and still flopped. He wrote on his singles, so I don’t understand how the failure of the two singles can’t be blamed on him. So USA today never loves Blake, huh? I doubt you can find any magazine to give him a different grade. It’s nothing personal. The numbers don’t lie.

  6. 106 Holly Apr 5th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Personally, I’m sick of all these people who aren’t fans coming here and trashing Blake. I get enough of that at other sites. I could never go to sites of people I don’t like. What a waste of time.

  7. 107 star Apr 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

I never took Sligh’s comment about Blake’s 5 million goal seriously. I would only believe it if Blake himself said it, and he never did. Around the time his album came out, one of the interviewers asked him and he wouldn’t say. I’m sure he would like to sell more than he has, though.

  8. 108 newduck Apr 5th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Can I make a small suggestion…not in any way telling anyone what to do. But I myself am just going to completely ignore the rest of these kinds of post. I hope these people start getting the attention they need in real life and stop running to blogs for other celeb’s fans and trying to bring them done.

Man, what a freaking waste of time that is. LOL

  9. 109 star Apr 5th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

We’ve talked it over and we’ll be deleting drive-by, shit-stirring posts from now on. We’re sick of it too. This is fansite. If you’re not a fan, GTFO.

  10. 110 Holly Apr 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

Thank you Star. That’s how I’ve felt about it for a while.

  11. 111 Pam Apr 5th, 2008 at 3:51 pm

Thank you star! I didn’t feel it was right for me to criticize anyone here not being a mod or to threaten anyone for that matter, but I’m honestly sick of it too!

  12. 112 Bully Apr 5th, 2008 at 3:55 pm

Thank you, Star. I don;t read on other sites because of all the negativity. I hate seeing it here.

I’ll be honest. I won’t be happy if the only type of music Blake puts out from here forward is electronica/BT-ish type stuff. I want another pop album like ADD. Yes, it’s all about me. I watched one of the videos from WMC and that was enough. That type of music just isn’t my style.

I like all you’ve said here today. Blake was doing all this electronica stuff all along, but then also did more Pop and other efforts. So long as we have other efforts, I’ll be happy. I need more SWBL and EW. The biggest problem I see, is him making a name and rep for himself in a chosen genre. Dabbling in other stuff is great and fun for him and his creativity, but he needs to be KNOWN for a type of music. It’s too bad he’s not ready to be embraced for his M5 flair, because the world is really wanting more of that right now. He’d have a niche cut out ready for him.

  13. 113 Bully Apr 5th, 2008 at 4:03 pm

That’s what Kat’s fans said, that’s what Justin’s fans said, etc etc.

Kat is making an album, and no less, with DAVID FOSTER.*jumps up and down with glee* If this is the lack of faith she’s getting because of her “flop” record, then I am all for it! LOL. Maybe QuincyJones will step up if Blake gets dropped, and help him the same way. :-) Yeah, that’d be brutal.

re the Sligh remark: I don’t believe he ever said with any seriousness, that he wanted to sell 5Million records. He has only been quoted with saying he wants everybody to buy it, and love it, and share his music.

  14. 114 Lisa Apr 5th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

I’ll be honest. I won’t be happy if the only type of music Blake puts out from here forward is electronica/BT-ish type stuff. I want another pop album like ADD. Yes, it’s all about me. I watched one of the videos from WMC and that was enough. That type of music just isn’t my style.

I’m with you, star. I became a fan of Blake because I liked what he performed on AI, I like some of the songs on ADD but the electronica stuff is not my cup of tea at all. If that’s the kind of music he plans on sticking with I’m pretty certain I wouldn’t continue to follow him just because he’s Blake. I need to actually enjoy what I listen to. The stuff from WMC and his pre-AI stuff I can’t get into at all.

Frankly I’ll never understand the concept of following and paying attention to someone you can’t stand but that’s just me. I’m wrapped up in work quite a bit these days so I’ve been busy, but to be honest I’m also stepping back a bit because the fandom hasn’t been very enjoyable. I’m not gonna lie - the Sanjaya/David Archuleta stuff has bothered me a bit but I’m cooling off about that. I’m not all that positive about the direction of Blake’s career but I certainly won’t begrudge anyone who wants to think in a positive way.

  15. 115 skipperdjl Apr 5th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Let’s see if this post makes it.
    Lisa and Star,
Blake won’t do just Electronica. He may do an electronica album and we have talked about how he and Kevin could do a great sound track for space/starwars/and other films and games. But Blake is very much into songs like Transmission and Emotional Waterfall. He knows he was discovered for his voice and I don’t think he will vacate that part of his repetoire (spell right?) Do we have spell check here? Anyway, he has a wide range. First he has to sell enough records to make enough money to begin new endeavors.. Give him time. I listened to my AI cd which has all 18 songs he did. I still don’t like TIMN, but he sang it all right. I think my favorite is Mack the Knife for showing his true vocal ability. He likes Harry Connick Jr. and Michael Bubble’ I know that’s not spelled right. So, He could do a jazz record that would blow everybodys socks off, even the dip sht at USA Today who has never like him.

That’s all my ragging tonight. Hope you all have a great weekend.

That’s great, BigD! I’d love to hear more electronica *and* I’d love to hear more mainstream stuff. The electronica doesn’t showcase his beautiful voice the way that the the other stuff does. There’s no doubt that the boy can croon. Also, the latest version of Emotional Waterfall features some lovely jazz piano from him. I hope that you’ve seen the new “She Will Be Loved” video posted in today’s chat thread. It’s just beautiful.

  17. 117 ld Apr 5th, 2008 at 10:51 pm

You tell em Skipper! Thanks for the post. Star, thank you for deleting those drive by posters. I have backed off from posting as much because I don’t enjoy reading all the BS and negative stuff! Rock on Blake! I love all the music. Right now my favorite is everything on A.D.D.

  18. 118 Bouffe Apr 5th, 2008 at 10:56 pm

even the dip sht at USA Today who has never like him.

*LOL* Oh Big D, I so agree with you. I love Blake for his diverse tastes in music. Harry Connick Jr has always been one of my fav… Imagine Blake singing that kind of songs makes my head spin, literally. I know he’d do good!

    Bouffe,

Don’t put thoughts in my head like that this late at night. It’s too much to handle. *L* It kind of reminds me of when Bully talks about Blake’s velvety voice which is absolutely beautiful. :)

That is such OLD news. And, I never gave it any credence anyway. Sanjaya’s AI download numbers were abysmal. I think about 1500 total? I wouldn’t begrudge him success though. I wish the best for the kid. Gosh, I can’t imagine anyone I would truly wish to fail…That is a bit twisted.

But I’m tired of this. Thanks to the Mods, who have said the shit-stirrers will be deleted. **runs off to see the full video of SWBL/WOWY** I’m loving the April 5 thread.

Sanjaya didn’t get the chance of a record deal, so there is no way to predict he will fail at this area or not.

    Lindal,

the fact that Sanjaya may not even HAVE a record deal isn’t a failure in itself? Of course, I have absolutely no clue if Sanjaya is in the process of recording an album since I am not a fan of his and think he has little singing talent….

I’m not really in the mood to hear Fanjayas calling Blake a failure until their boy manages to sell over 300,000 CD’s himself.

  22. 122 Crystal J. Apr 5th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

I am in total agreement about a jazzy Harry Connick type CD. I’d love it!

    BigD,

good point about the potential jazz CD, my mom even commented that she thought Blake had a voice well suited for jazz although he wasn’t her favorite last season (it was Melinda and Lakisha).

And thank you, Skipperdjl for giving us a glimpse of what the future might hold.

Heh! Thanks Pam! I was just floating off on my pink cloud, thinking of that in the terms of Harry Connick and Buble stuff!
    *fluffy pink hearts*
I LOVE the velvety. When he croons? I just melt.:-D I would love an album like that, not even gonna lie!

I have always thought Blake would do amazing in Jazz my favorite genre.

  27. 127 maracaibo Apr 6th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

I have always thought Blake would do amazing in Jazz my favorite genre.

    I always thought so too.
After watching his EW acoustic piano rendition on you tube, I really think Blake should venture more into that type music. Even though jazz music is not very mainstream he could actually sell more records than with beat boxing electronica 80’s stuff.

He is pretty good with jazzy melodies and his vocals are highlighted more. I hope he gets to make a second record in that genre, even though ADD is not selling well.
Deep inside I was always afraid ADD would not do well just because it sounded too 80’s. JMHO.

He deserves another chance. Let’s hope Clive doesn’t drop him. Hopefully something along the lines of Emotional Waterfalls, Maroon 5 vibe will work for him the next time. JMHO.
