It is a cursed spot. Noone besides Clay (and his is just because he had a massive fanbase that has stuck by him) has had any success. I think they win a contract by coming in second, and the record label just passifies them with that amount of money. I don't think they ever have any intention of promoting the artist or sinking in any more money to them. The only reason I think they did with Daughtry (not 2nd place, but probably next most marketable on season 5), was because Taylor did not meet their needs for an Idol that year (I don't mean to imply Chris was not good...I just mean he got a lot of label support to promote him). I am also not implying Taylor was not good, I just think Idol threw him under the bus. The only other successful Idols that were not first, were of the country genre. I think it's because country patrons develop an affinity for an artist...they just like them. FanFair first week of June is one of the best draws ever, for people. What a great opportunity you know??
