Those pictures are delightful. Musicians’ playroom!

Yes they are! They look like 2 kids in a candy store! It’s great to see them looking both looking so happy! :)

Imagine was not amongst my favorite Blake performances last year (in fact I found the Idol Gives Back performances by and large very dull–one can sing a song about hope and inspritation and it can be upbeat and not a solemn dirge, but I digress). But I really respected Blake for including the lyric about “Imagine no religions”. That took some guts given how conservative much of the AI audience is, especially in the south. I like David A’s version, though it was cribbed from Eva Cassidy, but the kid has been singing it for years. I doubt Blake has been singing Imagine as part of his Seattle shows.

Vanessa, I know I’m a little late, but congrats! I know you’ll do a great job. What fun!

And Pam, I started watching LA Ink last year and loved it! Never thought I would want to watch it, but it is actually a very interesting show. They do a lot of the back stories as to why people are getting certain tattoos, and a lot of them are very moving.

Now if I could just somehow fly to LA to get Kat to do a tattoo on me! LOL

awwww Lori. Yeah, I’ve actually seen bits and pieces of the show and some of the stories are very moving. :) The issue with me would certainly not be the money it would be having the guts the withstand the needle! LOL

I like both versions of Imagine.. (my mom hates the song because of the imagine no religion) I like the part of the song david A sang but the arangment was a bit diffrent for sure… on Blake studio version I love that the most espcailly the 3rd verse thats my fave!

Thank you EVERYONE for your kind words!

I must say that this is an opportunity of a lifetime, and what perfect timing to promote HMW! I will try to see if I can get it recorded, and if I do, I will be sure to post a link here :)

    I miss last year. :glurps_tb:

I do too, seeing those pictures made me all teary eyed.

Miss last season too.. This year my favourite is woman.. and it’s just not the same!

  13. 63 Bully Mar 4th, 2008 at 10:23 am

I was just thinking, how wierd it has to be for Blake to watch this year’s Idol. This is not a good indication of “the Best Season EVAR” no matter what the reports–and I DO avail myself to the ffwd button!
It has to be a surreal experience for him to watch(or ffwd thru) and learn the names for people he’s going to be meeting like in a day or so.

Idol has been over-thinking things this season so far, and I wonder if the new beginning graphics etc for the show will fall as flat as Tyra Banks have for America’s Next Top Model. She gave her show a new beginning too this season, and I don;t care for it at all. I also liked how in the previous seasons, she paid honor to the ones who placed first in the opening reel…it felt like respect, and like revisiting an old memory. Now? It just feels like the Tyra Show, and I’m a little over it.
I think as a whole, tv audiences don;t like alot of changes. We like the routine, and the certain expectation. That may be why when Idol tries to “stage” things, it feels just bleh.

  14. 64 Nic Mar 4th, 2008 at 11:02 am

Jenlar..that’s not wiggling..its smooth-love-swaying hips…and yes, I too was taken in by those beating, swaying hips! I was thrilled to see a contestent actually trying something different rather than trying to blow the windows out…

    Joyce,

that’s what has sucked about this season of Idol so far. The contestants have been stuck with these rigid theme weeks BEFORE the Top 12 and I’m not feeling it :/. There is no opportunity to sing anything modern, AND I’m not really seeing anyone who has the vision and creativity to the extent that Blake did (where he could re-arrange and change up songs if needed). Plus, yes, there is that tendency to scream and belt out songs instead of putting *thought* into how to present the song :P.

    Vanessa,

that’s awesome how you get to do that host DJ job for a day ;). You will promote Blake very well, hee!

  15. 65 Nic Mar 4th, 2008 at 11:05 am

I finally decided to give my ADD playing a break (not for long though). After hearing David A. sing Imagine this last week, I decided to go back and listen to Blake’s version. I may be biased (of course I am!), but I preferred Blake’s to David’s. Blake kept the basic melody intact…and I love that song. David did a great job “vocally”, but deep down, it did not impact me.

    EOTW,

you’re not the only one who feels this way. Archuleta’s glory noting version didn’t do much for me, and I much preferred Blake’s straight up rendition. Of course, I’m not really a huge fan of David A.’s which I know is NOT the norm among Idol fans, LOL.

  16. 66 Nic Mar 4th, 2008 at 11:11 am

    Charles,

I remember some people on the AI boards accusing Blake of being atheist or pagan for singing that lyric, I was WTF?? I couldn’t believe people would judge him for singing that, how ridiculous! Besides, it’s none of their business what religion he is, or if he doesn’t even practice religion (it’s not a concern to me either way).

Rumor has it that David A. is doing a Journey song this week that he’s sung a zillion times in the past? I guess we’ll see tonight. Given the fact he has probably done talent shows since he was 3 years old, I’m sure he’s got a nice little repertoire of tired, over-done songs I can’t wait to hear (*sarcasm* fully intended, lol). So no challenge for him in that respect.

I want to see ‘1990s metal’ week or something, ha. :D

  17. 67 Anne Mar 4th, 2008 at 11:39 am

Star thanks for posting those pics, made me smile the whole time while looking at them:)

Thanks for posting Blake’s bulletin Pam. He sounds very happy and excited. I hope he does a bang up job this coming Thursday. Love the song, and can’t wait to hear it on the radio:D

Rumor has it that David A. is doing a Journey song this week that he’s sung a zillion times in the past?

Just to touch on the David A subject, while the kid can sing…I totally agree with what you are saying here Nic. Randy has said the whole reason they were doing theme weeks this early was to have them do songs that they don’t already know from the radio. But yet David has done, and might do, songs that he has been singing for years. That is really my only gripe with this kid. Looking on you tube the kid has covered many songs, but has done nothing orginal. I know the kid is only OMG 17, but it just takes me back to how Blake has said how he hates doing covers. Anyway, that is my two cents on little David.

  18. 68 Bully Mar 4th, 2008 at 11:58 am

“Little David”– That just makes me laugh every time I read that.heh.
Okay, he’s a super talented kid, as was Jordin, and I guess both have songs from their repertoire that might make us raise our brows a bit…but I do want to hear something more personal from all of them. It’s like watching the robot Olympics, and it doesn;t make me care a whole lot who wins. I don’t really want to hear OMG!17!! ever again. They have as much a chance to win as everybody else in the competition. (As if these 21 yr olds are so long in the tooth! sheesh.)

I have to relate something Spouse told me this morning! Funny. He said, upon waking me, that he’d had a dream that Blake was having some closed circuit concert I’d bought into, as well as some other concert thing, and spent all this money–and boy, was he ticked! He recounted his dream, and how he had been so mad, etc–and I just GRINNED and asked him, “Was the concert good?” He stopped, and looked agog at me, because he knew in that instant that I prolly WOULD buy those tickets if given the opportunity! LOL Men are so funny. He’s the one dreaming of Blake, and I’m not sure yet whether it’s because he fears Blake’s mind control powers, or the fact I’d go ahead and spend the money! Hee!

    91.3 ‘The Zone’ (Mar 4) - #4 of 10 [#3]

  20. 70 Kasia Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:02 pm

I was listening to the radio while driving today and DJ on the program that I do not typically listen to talked about American Idol show. As he was talking about today’s and tomorrow’s shows, he mentioned that Blake Lewis will be performing his new single “How many words” and further stated to check it out. He said it was going to be today; of course I had to email him right away to correct the information. :smile_wp: I thought it was nice that this program is spreading the word around about Blake’s performance.
I was wondering it this was a random statement or other radio stations made an announcement about Blake’s appearance as part of promotion.

  21. 71 Anne Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Thanks for the update Vanessa, glad to see BA is doing well:)

    Too funny Bully:)

Your welcome Anne. Blake seemed to be the happiest there than I think we have seen in quite sometime. Bully, your hubby had a dream about Blake? The man is scared I tell you! Hee! V, sounds like Blake is still doing pretty well in Singapore. That’s good to hear! :)

BA’s been bouncing between #3 and #4 over the last couple of days.

  24. 74 newduck Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Wait…did D say that THEY want a sexy/romantic show? Who is they and why are THEY telling B what to do with HIS song…run, B, run…don’t look into the light. As much as I would love to see a sexy/romantic show, I’m 110% against this kind of control. Dang, am I alone in thinking that isn’t a good thing to read?

  25. 75 Bouffe Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:09 pm

The only reason why Idol has themes that early is in part because of their deal with iTunes. It’s easier to get the rights to a pre-established list of songs rather than scramble at the last minute to get rights for an obscure song. Since they are selling those songs on iTunes, they want to make sure they have the rights to them.

I still don’t agree with it all, I think it robs the contestants from showing us who they are. Pffft.

David A - he’s a great singer, very talented. Not my cup of tea, but I can see why he’d make a good Idol.

And BLAKE!!!! On AI this week! I cannot wait!

  26. 76 Pam Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:19 pm

    newduck,

This may sound crazy, but after the negative response that BA got from TV viewers, the HMW performance needs to be focused on him because he is the one trying to sell the song. At this point, this performance could make or break the song and the CD and any “good” advice I could get especially if I were in Blake’s shoes, I would gladly take it. When the viewers see him on Thursday, some of these folks may be hearing him for the first time since the show ended since BA didn’t make it to a ton of stations and we also know that fans attention spans are short and so they need to see the side Blake that they remember and be able to fall in love with him all over again. I don’t see it as a bad thing.

It sounds like to me that 19 is trying to give him advice because they want to see him succeed and so I honestly can’t knock it.

    :)

As much as I would love to see a sexy/romantic show, I’m 110% against this kind of control. Dang, am I alone in thinking that isn’t a good thing to read?

Whether or not you like it Blake is signed to a major record label and he has important people handling his career, he can’t always calls the shots. It’s not “control”, it’s called helpful advice. The live BA performances were a disaster that even turned off my daughter that loved Blake on Idol. His people aren’t stupid. The advice they gave him sounds perfectly balanced and smart to me. This kind of publicity he can’t afford screw up and he’s very lucky he’s being given the opportunity considering his poor sales.

  30. 80 Anne Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:52 pm

FWIW I agree with Terry here. As much as I enjoyed the BA performances they did nothing to help promote the song. This to me is like Terry said some major publicity, and he has to be spot on.

they need to see the side Blake that they remember and be able to fall in love with him all over again.

Agree with Pam too. He really needs to sell this song. And if he brings to this song what he brought to Love Song, and SWOWK or even Stars go Blue, it will be great:P

  31. 81 Ziran Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:57 pm

i don’t mind the label control at all. Whatever sells the record at this point. Some of the “artistic” control that Blake got for himself seem problematic to me, for instance, the album cover, the beard and scarf, and of course the concept of BA video. It is great to see Blake being himself, but I would also love him to appeal to mass audience and got a chance to put out another album.

  32. 82 jenlar Mar 4th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Not trying to tear you down, newduck, but as much as I love the manic!bouncy!ADDtheBand Break Anotha, the powers-that-be did sign a solo act. I love all of the guys (and have bought many, many downloads by all of them) but this performance needs to be about Blake, dontcha think? Blake doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to compromise his musical integrity, for good or bad, so we’ll get the performance he wants us to get. He’s also got to settle for some compromise to get some bigger, better leeway in the future.

I feel like strong label/management direction on the promo appearances is a good thing. They know how to sell albums and get airplay. Having B get creative control over the album itself and the actual two-er performances is a good trade-off.

  33. 83 Nic Mar 4th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

You know, I can’t really bash 19 and Arista over this stuff. God knows I’ve had my gripes in the past, but if Blake was told to tone it down and make the performance ’sexy’ or ‘romantic, I don’t think that is a BAD idea in this case.

Also, I don’t see how having Blake on this week’s results show is bad timing either. There might be quite a few people tuning in this week to see who actually *gets into* the Top 12 in the first place. I noticed David Hernandez’s gay stripper past has been revealed ALL over the media today so that might get a few people watching, lol.

I have to admit that I find it bizarre how they haven’t even released the song to radio yet despite the fact that the impact date is VERY soon (!!), are TPTB assuming the Idol exposure alone will get the song going when no one has even heard it yet? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
