I have an embarssing story to tell yall..

I do my daily duty of calling my radio stations to request the song at least twice (email and text are also added to the daily push to get the song played). And so i call, and its this radio DJ that always, and I mean always hassles me about me being a fan of Blake. So by know he knows me by name, and he says “let me guess you want to play his song and that he is a cool guy” So today he was like, Okay, if you beatbox i might play the song, I go, will you really play the song? So we sit their arguing for a while, and finally in front of a car full of people, I had the courage to beatbox like for a nano-second. Then he said Ill try try try try to play the song, and after listening and hasseling him via text for an hour and a half… he. he. he…. DIDNT play the song. I was sad..

    Butet,

Awwwww, that DJ really sucks. Great job trying though!

Word to your whole post Chrissy.
You know what was really funny? When he, Jordin, and Melinda went on Jay Leno and Jay asked him about Sanjaya. He was able to express himself, but the humor took some of the edge off. I know it still pissed off some hardcore Sanjaya fans, but I think it was a good way of dealing with the question.

Blake’s name was finally mentioned on the station that was listed for the noon appearance on his MS. lol He is supposed to be on there sometime tonight.

You can see photos from Blake’s appearance at WFKS-FM today in Jacksonville here. Keep scrolling down till you see “station photos” and you will see a link that says “American Idol’s Blake Lewis Stops By.”

Enjoy this cute pic from the set. :)

Awww, Butet, I’m sorry to hear the DJ was such a jackass to you.

Kudos to you for your perseverance!

My friend sent me a text earlier. She went to a Memphis Grizzlies game tonight and said they played “Break Anotha.” I was pretty excited!

We are taking some residents to a game next week, so I’ll be listening for it. haha

I’ve been reading with interest and some intrepidation since the radio interviews don’t meet everyones expectations of beatboxer. I find some of them hilariously funny as I’ve heard B say the same things, even when he was on the show. One thing, like it or not, Blake will say what he feels and it’s usually because he means it, or it isn’t really important to him in the big scheme of things.
I just read the New York mag article that Endoftheworld linked and laughed a good one. Blake said David A was boring. In fact he might be. But the B boy told me that he said David A has the best voice. He probably told people that too along the way, but of course it isn’t printed. I taught him, “if you don’t have something nice to say about someone, don’t say anything.” Guess he forgot that one. Oh well. He doesn’t live here anymore. Still love his music and his face.

Good to see you back and read your insight about the promos, Mr. Lewis. I do not think Blake forgot what you taught him, I think people who talk about the interviews forget or omit to mention or bring to the attention the positive things that Blake says during those interviews. At least, that is what I remember from the promos.

I can see that people seem to have mixed feelings about Blake’s honesty or straighforward manner in expressing his opinions, but I personally really admire Blake’s candor. It might at times be unpopular but it is a sign to me that he knows where he stands and is not afraid to voice his opinion. Kudos to him.

    Kasia - Word!

Big D - I’m glad you are taking all the “controversy” in stride. :o)

Hey BigD– glad to see you check in on this subject. :-) I like your comment, “with interest and some trepidation”! LOL. Very cute, and smart too I suppose. heh.

Okay, here’s the thing– if Blake was talking to me, he could be blunt, and that’d be fine. I’m candid myself. But these public Q&A things are making me nervous, because he gains more ground for being circumspect than not. I have admired his ability to stay calm and cool in the face of alot of extremes what with fans and tv and the Tour and the like…I’m just wishing we had more of that these days.
(I was raised to say something nice or don’t say anything at all too.)

However, I have been thinking alot about this, the past week or so. I guess how it shakes down for me is, the Boy is being honest. He just wants to give an honest answer, and I guess I can’t fault him for that. I would want to be straightforward too, and be liked or not as is. It’s a way of keeping some of the craap off of oneself, keep it from accumulating, right? Just be yourself.

    Regarding the promo tour:
Hearing him talk yesterday morning, he just sounded so natural and nice–I really responded to that. I already like him tho, so I don;t know how much is my own bias. I’m unclear what the Mission is now, of these DJ/station stops. If they don’t Add the song to their line-up after he’s taken the time to be there? What is the Point? Today we see how much album impact there is, I guess.

    Bully,

I’m sure the mission is to promote HMW and the CD as well, but you are correct, these stations aren’t adding the song to their playlists after he appears there. These were some of the very same stations that were quick to add BA immediately.

    *Shrugs*

The sales #’s won’t be out till tomorrow. :)

Thanks for your insight, I for one admire that he is honest even if I don’t agree, but lets just agree to disagree.

  14. 64 Bully Mar 25th, 2008 at 11:38 am

Thanks Pam–I really thought the numbers were out today. Im curious, because we should see impact from these appearances if we are going to.

I also was hoping with the great promo he’s been doing, and how glad the DJs were to have him in, that they would add him for at least consumer opinion. It seems they have no intention, and the 2 weeks we were told is at a head NOW. Why the lag? I don;t understand how this all works, because by the time they are ready to maybe do anything, momentum is gone you know?

Aside from a treat for us fans-already, and the accidental-listener of the station, if it doesn;t sway stations and DJs what will be the result of all this? They ignore requests.

Tattoo came out last August. It got airplay here in my area around Xmas, minimally. It is Top10 now, and played often, and it’s March. Is that how long it can take to get airplay? Seems incongruous to all the promo work, and red-hot status of Idol NOW.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Chat - 3/24/08 at Team Plaid, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
