Here is a pretty good review from a Rhode Island college newspaper. She doesn’t call herself a huge fan, but she said the CD got her toes moving I think? LOL It’s good though. :)

Hey All- Thanks so much Jenlar for the great Interview with the DJ! Oh, he sounds so great…and the humbleness in his voice just makes me want to *Squish* him! :-) He’s adorable.
I love to hear about stuff, and when he talks we get a little more of the story. Love that.

Ah, thanks to fangirl goodness I get to start my day with animated pink hearts over my head.*sigh* Good stuff.

The review is good, Pam! :-) Funny, while upbeat in her wordings, she actually did not like HMW which is many of our favs. She is one that errs towards EOTW.

Thanks for sharing this one! Nice to hear happy, personable reviews.

New pics FTW!! Now, off to decide which will be my latest background pic on my screen…haha :)

jenlar, you said the DJ posted a bulletin about Blake’s interview, right? Did he by any chance mention when the interview was done? Just curious!

  7. 7 Pam Jan 29th, 2008 at 1:23 pm

I just went to station’s blog page looked through them, and didn’t see one posted about the interview so in other words, no date, unless jenlar knows something we don’t. :) It is the top interview on the player, so who knows. lol

  8. 8 star Jan 29th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

jenlar said the DJ posted a bulletin about it, not a blog. I want to know what the bulletin said.

Thanks for finding that wonderful interview. He sounded so happy and grateful for eveything. I really enjoyed listening to that. I also liked everything that he had to say about AI, and how every show is a good show. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Again hopping for HMW being the next single, even more so after listening to him talk about it.

Sorry but I still haven’t figured out the whole bold, italics thing.
    Hello Team Plaid -

I was checking my AOL account & found an interview with Randy Jackson. Here’s what he had to say about Blake (pretty nice).

You don’t see ‘Idol’ ever starting to slow down?
No, I think it can go on for a long, long time. The numbers will go up and down little by little, but it’s not really so much just about the numbers. Our sheer success is about the talent we produce. There are some great kids out there that have a shot at careers. You know, you can look at Blake and Jordin and their records that are out now. The music business is in a terrible slump, but they’re still doing terribly well.

Of course it was on the same page as “Idol flops” with B. listed as one. Guess it was done by Vote for the Worst so that just goes to show how Wrong it is!!

  12. 12 Pam Jan 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm

hmmmm… This just popped up in my blog section on myspace. It’s about the interview link posted here.

“The ultimate Blake Lewis interview is up!! I got the chance to chat with Blake Lewis and you should really take the time to check it out. Its around 10 minutes long but if you’re a real fan you’ll stick it out and find out some cool stuff about last season’s American Idol favourite including what he’s up to now…and next!”

This just popped up in my blog section on myspace.

It is now up on their myspace also. I’m guessing this interview most have been done pretty recently. Looks like you can leave comments, though it doesn’t seem anyone has left comments for any of the interviews that have been done.

  14. 14 Pam Jan 29th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

    Anne,

I see that now. I’ve just left a comment on the blog. :)

Condering the source of the Idol flops, I’ll take it with a grain of salt.

I see WAKS, a KISS station in Akron, OH, just played IGU.

  17. 17 Anne Jan 29th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

    WAKS, a KISS station

I’m sure this has already been discussed, but what is a KISS station?

  18. 18 Crystal J. Jan 29th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

Anne - KISS formatted stations are owned by the Clear Channel Communications conglomerate. You can read more in this article.

Great interview! Thanks so much for the link. Good to hear someone asking good questions to Blake.

  20. 20 Nic Jan 30th, 2008 at 12:13 am

You know, I was sort of wondering if “Know My Name” would be a better single to release now instead of “How Many Words.” I’ve been hearing Lupe Fiasco’s new single on a couple of Top 40 stations here, and one of them is giving it a decent number of spins according to their Mediabase chart. So maybe having that name recognition would help Blake out, I don’t know? Plus collaborations are all the rage nowadays, it seems (even Lupe has this Matthew Santos featured on “Superstar”).

Interesting how “I Got U” was played, hmm! :)

  21. 21 newduck Jan 30th, 2008 at 12:30 am

I”m pushing for IGU instead of HMW, though I love HMW. I just don’t think HMW is the right song to release during V-day time. IGU hits the right chord at the right time.

So good to hear someone played it…might be a good thing.

  22. 22 star Jan 30th, 2008 at 12:31 am

Thanks for posting the bulletin, jenlar. I’m sure the interview was from sometime this month since he talked about New Year’s.

  23. 23 Memphis Lisa Jan 30th, 2008 at 12:36 am

Hey, I’ve lived in Akron, OH! Maybe they ARE doing some song-testing in different markets. I can see Akron falling into the Peoria, IL realm of average American test markets. Interesting. IGU, huh?

Like Nic, I’ve been leaning towards the KMN camp for the next single for a while now. I liked it from the minute I heard the unfinished leak. And although I don’t think Lupe’s contribution makes the song … I don’t think it hurts it either. The tune just feels hip and current right now. And the borrowed interest might just help if it is in fact a fact that there just aren’t too many non-Timberlake white male solo artists on the POP charts today.

  24. 24 Crystal J. Jan 30th, 2008 at 1:21 am

Lisa - I used to live in Massillon, about 30 mins. from Akron. Did you go to school there? Maybe we played you in some football games, lol. I agree that it’s a good sampling of middle America.

I’m still sort of torn on which songs. I’m thinking HMW or KMN. But I’ll be happy with pretty much any song, as long as they get it out soon!

  25. 25 ld Jan 30th, 2008 at 1:27 am

I love them all - my favorites are probably WUG2L, HMH, KMN, - I always have trouble with a favorite. IGU is very pretty & romantic - definitely a Valentines type song. HMW is awesome too. When I try to imagine what would sound good on the radio I hear H2LH. Oh well, whatever it is I’m sure I’ll love it.

  26. 26 Memphis Lisa Jan 30th, 2008 at 1:52 am

Hey Crystal J, no I grew up in southern Illinois. But I know where Massillon is. And, I guess we can breathe a sigh of relief that we’re not football foes. (Teehee)

Honestly, I’m with all of you when you say that you don’t know which song would make the ideal next single. I can imagine there’s some insider rangling going on within label management. Because in the last hour, newduck convinced me that IGU would be a great second single.

I have a friend who’s a singer-songwriter. And he loved Blake’s voice, but was a bit turned off by the beatboxing. He said he didn’t think Blake was “Idol material.” And knowing the source, I believe that was actually a big compliment! With the pure, clean, vocal tones and melodies of “I Got U,” I can see it might appeal to a different audience that might not ‘love’ the beatboxing. (Dare I say it? Think Tattoo. But better—at least in my book. It’s melodic. Safe and lovely, but with a really nice hook.)

  27. 27 Joyce Jan 30th, 2008 at 9:37 am

I’m looking a mass media appeal and I would go with HMW because it is safe and melodic rather than KMN even though Fiasco may be hot..alot do not like rap.audiences will hear the pure vocal tones of Blake other than beatboxing and rapping..I told you when I was shopping at Neiman’s they had Tattoo playing now I know KMN with Fiasco’s rapping would not go over well…what we need is a broader, safe appeal song right now! or I’d take IGU whatever but not KMN

  28. 28 Bully Jan 30th, 2008 at 10:28 am

I love IGotU…it would be fine with me if they released that one. I dunno tho, was that an acquired love, or did I love it right off the bat? Remember, that’s one of the NeverendingStory songs. We were listening extra hard. :-)
Off the bat I thought HMW or Surrender was the catchiest, followed by WYGTL. Both of those are so earwormy-good, they just get in there and start repeating! LOL.

KMN is kinda cool, but it isn;t as indicative as to what’s on the album, IMO. Lupe is it;s only selling factor for being a second release.

  29. 29 Crystal J. Jan 30th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Pam - I think a lot of people like IGU. It is in my Top 5 favorites. I think it could have a shot as a single at some point, but I would prefer it not be the 2nd single.

I see another college station in Chicago is playing BA, WCRX in Chicago. That makes three college stations still playing it, along with Akron and Boston. Very interested to see if more will play it, as I can easily see it catching on with the college set.

  30. 30 Nic Jan 30th, 2008 at 2:17 pm

    Joyce,

I actually feel that KMN is a fairly safe choice, because that IS the sort of music you hear on Top 40 stations nowadays - lots of rap-hip hop songs. As I said, Lupe’s getting that mainstream airplay where I live.

  31. 31 Katie Jan 30th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

I can’t get the interview to play!
