Ah, I will have to listen to this PRIEST (??!) interview! I’m rather intrigued now ;).

Interesting Ryan interview, especially the “Justin takes up so much space” comment! I had remarked before how there were so few white male solo artists nowadays and he just stressed the point. You really ARE better off being in a band nowadays, lol. It’s ridiculous IMO, but that’s just how the music industry has been in recent years. Few white solo males but a never-ending stream of black male or female artists of any race. I do hope that Blake can help change that trend!

I love how the producers and studio engineers were so impressed by our B - of course it goes back to his musicianship, which was often stifled on a restrictive show like Idol (let’s face it, it’s mainly glorified karaoke).

I was reading a list of tour dates for the band 311 and they will be in Seattle at the Paramount Theater on Mar 31. I bet B will be there.

“311 Day” is 3/11 in New Orleans. It’s their big thang, and I was wondering if B would be going to that one. I’m dying to go, but it doesn’t look all that possible.

I have to laugh when I hear Blake’s voice referred to as “mediocre.” Come on, did anyone ever comment on what vocal ability old guys like Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, or God forbid David Bowie croaked out? But did it matter? Our parents made them millionaires many times over. Why? Because they were creative geniuses and risk takers. Blake does have a voice that can take you away. He has excellent pitch, and especially on his ballads, a smooth and dreamy delivery. He suspends reality and makes you believe he is singing just to you. The type of voice you never tire of hearing. So what if he doesn’t have a tremendous range. I personally get very tired of hearing all those warbled “runs” and multi-octave screeches that so many of today’s vocalists seem to produce. After a while, all of them start to sound alike. I hope to be buying Blake’s CDs for many, many years to come. After he has made his millions and become an old geezer himself, many of us will still look forward to his performances. May he never stop his music – there are so many of us who recognize true genius and are in awe that he is truly an American Idol!

I know, Blake may not be able to belt it out like Jordin, Melinda and Lakisha. But neither can many of todays artists, and I am pretty tune deaf, so I only know what sounds good to my ears, and I like his voice.

Someone put the song Break Anotha to clips from High School Musical. That’s the video that would have gotten everyone to buy it. Perfect combination. High School Musical plus Blake! Rosie you are so right, and I would even add Bruce Spingsteen to that list. No they didn’t have the strongest voices, but they are amazing at their art. And while Blake doesn’t have the through the roof vocals they are smooth and quite pleasing to the ear:)

The BA meets HSM video, not two things I would think go together. But it was actually cute, they did a good job with it.

Yes, I remember that statement too ;) And considering how many established artists sound much worse live, it’s probably true, heh. I’m still trying to forget that Fallout Boy performance on New Year’s. :/

About Blake’s voice, I think what is most appealing is the TONE. It’s just very smooth and pure sounding, which is probably why we love him so much on ballad-y type songs. There are certainly many singers who have more vocal range than Blake does, but their tones are so unpleasant (think nails on chalkboard) that I can’t bear listening to them.
