Save KMS!

So I’m sure everyone’s heard by now that the “Killing Me Softly” duet between Blake and Mindy Doo has been cut from the show. They performed it on opening night in Sunrise, FL and it hasn’t reappeared since. After seeing this fabulous video of their performance all I’ve got to say is WHY??!

Team Plaid and Team Doolittle, holla if you hear me. Who wants to see them bring “Killing Me Softly” back? Let’s hear it! I’m challenging our lurkers to come on out and help us save KMS too.

Special thanks to Tracy for shooting this video and sharing it with everyone! ♥ She also got many other amazing vids in Sunrise. I’ve posted a couple more after the jump!

We Want Your Recaps!

As most of you know, the American Idols Live tour finally kicks off this Friday, July 6, in Sunrise, FL. For the next 2 1/2 months, the top 10 contestants will travel around the country in one of the summer’s biggest tours, and five of your very own readers, posters, and/or admins will be there firsthand at the second stop of the tour in Tampa, FL this Saturday night. Yes, we are just slightly excited. In addition to those of us going on Saturday night, all of the admins here at Team Plaid are going to at least one tour stop, and we’ll do our best to report on all the details from the stops that we attend.

However, we obviously cannot cover 50+ tour stops alone, so here’s where you come in. We want your recaps!!! We know that there are lots of you out there who are going to a stop of the tour this summer, and we want to hear how your concert went! We know that you are fabulous writers, photographers, and videographers, and we’d love to put up the details of your Disney on Ice AI tour experience. We will open a blog post for each concert, so please feel free to post your recaps there. Or, simply email us at teamplaid@gmail.com with pics, links to photobucket accounts, and… recaps! Sure, the songs at each concert will be the same, but there are always fun little details that differ from city to city, and we love to know this stuff! And we especially want to know if you were lucky enough to score Meet and Greets and got to meet the Idols, or if you were just patient enough to wait by the busses for a quick hug, picture, and autograph!

Please use this space to find others who are going to your same tour stop. Feel free to post which city you plan to go to, but please DO NOT post detailed information about where you are sitting or eating beforehand, etc. If you would like to contact someone about meeting up at a specific concert, and you do not already have their contact info, please email us at teamplaid@gmail.com, and we’ll be happy to get y’all hooked up. But please, for your own safety, do not post your email address or any detailed information here.

Thanks to you all! Here’s to a summer of fun tour info!!

Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks On The Tonight Show

USA Today Spoils Us!

USA Today has gifted us with spoilers for tomorrow night’s Bee Gees-themed performance episode. Yay! Read up on how the final four prepare for Tuesday and find out Blake’s song selections here. What do you think?

Preview Blake’s lesser-known choice…

In other exciting news, the new Entertainment Weekly Power List is out, and  guess who they rank at number one? Woot!

Blake is SAFE! And Videos!

So is everyone else! See for yourself!

Here are the groups songs from last night:

“Time to Care” - Quincy Jones”

“American Prayer” - Bono and Dave Stewart:

And finally, here is Blake’s version of “Imagine” (without judges’ comments):

The Blake Effect

Bean99 mentioned yesterday that Tim McGraw’s version of “When The Stars Go Blue” had climbed to number 30 on iTunes Top 100 song list. I decided to do some comparison shopping. Here’s how the songs the Idols sang on country night stack up on the iTunes Top 100 today.

In order of appearance:

Phil Stacey - “Where the Blacktop Ends” by Keith Urban - not charting on the iTunes Top 100.

Jordin Sparks- “A Broken Wing” by Martina McBride - charting at 66 on the iTunes Top 100.

Sanjaya Malakar- “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt - not charting on the iTunes Top 100.

Lakisha Jones- “Jesus Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood - charting at 84 on the iTunes Top 100.

Chris Richardson- “Mayberry” by Rascal Flatts - not charting on the iTunes Top 100.

Melinda Doolittle - “Trouble is a Woman” by Julie Reeves - not charting on the iTunes Top 100.

Blake Lewis - “When the Stars Go Blue” by Tim McGraw - charting at 22 on the iTunes Top 100.

Go Blake! Too bad the original version by Ryan Adams wasn’t mentioned on AI. I’d prefer it to receive the boost in sales from Blake’s performance Tuesday night. If you don’t have it, rush on over to iTunes and download it now.

Oh, and don’t forget to buy Blake’s studio version from the official AI site. It is love.

Note: I didn’t check the iTunes Country 100. Could be that some of these songs are charting there.

UK Edits

The UK broadcast of American Idol features some slightly different content.  Check out Blake’s backstage interview with Cat Deeley from last week.

The Top 8 Idols also discussed the biggest misconceptions written about them in the press.  Check out Blake’s response at the end of the video. Flirty Blake!!!

More Behind the Scenes Gossip

The always astute Ninergrl6 from aceyoung.net had the good fortune to attend last Wednesday’s results show. She was kind enough to allow me to post some of her observations here. Sooper sekkrit handshake?

  • Blake and Chris are totally adorable together. They sang along with Akon (who wasn’t there, it was pre-recorded) and had a secret handshake.
  • Blake definitely had the most signs in the audience, although I think Mandisa had a sign for Melinda.
  • I think Jordin hates Sanjaya. She was obviously annoyed with him.
  • Sanjaya physically attacked Ryan after the whole “stand up, sit down” thing.
  • J Lo got make up on Ryan’s suit when they hugged.
  • The judges kept leaving during the commercial breaks. Odd. One time Paula had to literally run back to her chair and sat down at the very last second.
  • Simon and Ryan both chatted with Sharon Osborne in the audience.
  • After the show, Pink recorded a performance that will be shown on a later broadcast. She’s awesome.
  • Simon winked at me. It was weird.
  • On the Sanjaya/Ryan “attack”:

In jest, I’m sure. I only caught the aftermath, really, since at that moment I was fixated on Blake and Chris’ reaction to Chris being in the bottom 3. But then I noticed Ryan kind of stumble sideways and saw Sanjaya walking away with a grin on his face…. like he had gone over and pushed Ryan for torturing him with the results.

    On Jordin and Sanjaya:

About the Sanjaya/Jordin thing, during the breaks the contestants just chilled on the couches getting their make up redone for the most part. Sanjaya and Jordin were seated next to each other, and at one point I noticed Sanjaya blowing in Jordin’s face. He wouldn’t stop and she looked really annoyed. Then she snapped at him, “Stop it! You’re so weird!” and turned to face the opposite direction. Rawr.

    On Simon’s winking:

Simon was winking A LOT that night. In fact, when I watched my tape back, I noticed him do it on camera at least once, and I saw him do it off camera a couple of other times. I guess that’s his thing, to wink at people? (like Howie from BSB! lol) He smiled a lot too, surprisingly. Everyone seemed to be in a particularly great mood.

    On the judges:

There was a man in a wheelchair sitting next to me, and he had a dog to assist him. We were on the far right aisle near where the contestants sit on the couches to hear whether or not they’re safe. During almost every commercial break, the judges would walk down our aisle to go backstage…. to do lord knows what. They all stopped to chat with the man in the wheelchair and pet the dog. Simon actually stopped two or three times and was totally playing with the dog as if it were his own. It was surreal — Simon Cowell standing about 3 feet away from me smiling from ear to ear and being all happy and cute with a dog. Definitely not your typical image of Mr. Cowell!

    On Pink:

I was thinking that Pink’s pre-recorded performance was going to be for the 2 hour “Idol Gives Back” special in a couple of weeks. However, I do remember them saying that it could be for IGB or for some other show. So maybe they don’t even know? Or maybe they were purposely being vague? The song she performed isn’t the same song that’s on the AI “hit list” site. Marc Anthony also recorded a little something (not a performance) for the IGB special that apparently will also feature Johnny Depp.

Big thanks to Niner! You rawk!

Discussion -Top 8 Results

Last night Blake’s smooth performance of Marc Anthony’s “I Need to Know” received unanimous praise from the judges. Simon called it not only the best song choice, but the best performance of the night. Did America agree? Let’s hope so. It is, after all, Blake Lewis Day!

If Dial Idol is any indication, Blake is the only contestant 100% safe within their margin of error. So far this year Dial Idol has been more accurate at predicting the safe ones over the potential bootees, so that’s encouraging. Interestingly, this is the first week since the Top 12 began that anyone other than Melinda Doolittle has been in Dial Idol’s top spot. Do you think this is due to Blake’s stellar performance? Or do you think Blake is picking up fans from departed contestants such as Chris Sligh and Gina Glockson?

Tonight’s show is an hour long and Ken Warwick says in his TV Week interview to expect lots of filler (err… commercials). Let’s hope we get at least one group pointy pose out of the deal. Feel free to discuss your reactions to tonight’s show and elimination here.

Go Plaid Go!
