Discussion - Top 6 Results, Part Deux

Last week we sat through a two hour results show to learn that everyone was… SAFE!  It seems TPTB thought it would be mean to send an Idol home during the Idol Gives Back charity telethon and we all know TPTB are never mean. Ahem.  Over $60 million has already been raised for Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) and its various charity beneficiaries.  Not too shabby!

However, this development complicates tonight’s results show since not one, but two contestants will get the heave-ho.  Idol extended its voting window to four hours and two phone lines again last night, and the two contestants with the fewest votes from last week and this week combined will be eliminated.  It will be interesting to compare the vote totals from last week (when votes helped raise money for charity) and this week when they did not. Last week, over 70 million votes were cast. I’d bet money that the total will be much lower this week.

Thanks to everyone who voted for Blake last night after his incredible performance of “You Give Love a Bad Name.”  Was it enough to Save the Beatboxer and Save the World? DialIdol thinks so.  They have Jordin and Blake as they only safe ones this week.  All standard disclaimers regarding DialIdol apply.

Thanks again to Jenlar for the screen cap!

Blake On MTV & iTunes!

Blake Lewis has been a mere blip on the pop culture radar for only a few months, yet he’s already scored his own news feature on MTV! How awesome is that? In this piece, MTV dubs Blake The Accidental Idol and visits his hometown to chat with his biggest supporters - his friends and family. They also include some footage of Blake performing his original song “She Loves The Way.”

Sorry Blaker Mom, but I don’t think Blake’s fans are ready to send him home yet!

If you tuned in to Part 2 of Idol Gives Back last night, you probably heard Ryan Seacrest mention some of the special items available for purchase on iTunes to help raise money for the cause. In addition to those items, you can also find celebrity playlists created by each member of the Top 6! Check out Blake’s eclectic selections here. I kind of love him for including a Fiona Apple tune.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer put out a nice (if somewhat error filled) Blake-focused wrapup of Idol Gives Back week. After reading this quote from Blaker Girl spokeswoman Kristi Redman, I’d imagine (hee) Blake was frustrated with the critique he got from judge Randy Jackson this week.

“He was really excited [about singing ‘Imagine’]. He said it’s a John Lennon song and he wanted to pay homage to it without changing it. ‘If I had done something to it, I would have been ridiculed for years.’ It’s so beautiful and perfect as it is, why mess with it.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m siding with Blake on this one. And by the way, did you buy his studio recording of “Imagine” from americanidol.com yet? You should, because it’s super pretty.

Blake is SAFE! And Videos!

So is everyone else! See for yourself!

Here are the groups songs from last night:

“Time to Care” - Quincy Jones”

“American Prayer” - Bono and Dave Stewart:

And finally, here is Blake’s version of “Imagine” (without judges’ comments):

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT TEXT TO 5709 - ONLY TEXT TO 5703. 5709 IS NOT IN SERVICE. BUT YOU CAN STILL CALL 1-866-IDOLS-09.

VOTE FOR BLAKE TONIGHT! 1-866-IDOLS-03 (1-866-436-5703) and 1-866-IDOLS-09 (1-866-436-5709). AT&T/Cingular customers can text votes to 5703 and 5709. Remember that phone lines are open for 4 hours tonight instead of the regular 2.

As noted below, the show will not be live tonight (it was taped last night), so thanks to many great spoiler resources, we do already know performance order and that there will be two lines open for each contestant. These are the correct numbers for Blake for tonight.

For every vote cast tonight, AI’s corporate sponsors (AT&T and Coca-Cola, along with ExxonMobil and Allstate) will make a donation to African and American charities, in conjunction with Idol Gives Back. So vote, vote often, and VOTE FOR BLAKE!

Friendly reminder: If you want to talk spoilers, please either preface it with a “spoiler alert” disclaimer or keep that discussion in the “Save the Beatboxer, Save the World!” thread below. There are a few people out there who don’t like to know everything ahead of time (I’m sure they worry less than I do, heh.). :)

Enjoy the show!

GO BLAKE AND GOOD LUCK!

Save The Beatboxer, Save The World

Sort of!

Tonight’s episode of American Idol is Part 1 of the much-hyped Idol Gives Back special. Each vote you cast for your favorite finalist Blake Lewis during the 4 hour voting period (no, I didn’t stutter - they’ve DOUBLED the amount of voting time for this event) will result in Idol’s  sponsors making a donation to Charity Projects Entertainment Fund, ”a new charitable organization established to raise money and awareness to benefit children and young people in extreme poverty in the United States and throughout the world, particularly in Africa.”

Tuesday’s performance episode was taped Monday evening, so spoilers are all over the place. If you want to know all the details, check out MJ’s Blog.  Get ready to vote Team Plaid! This week, each contestant will get two voting lines instead of just one. Here are Blake’s digits, so you can go ahead and program them into your phone if you want to be prepared.

1-866-IDOLS-03

1-866-IDOLS-09

And of course, if you’re a Cingular customer, you can text message votes for Blake to 5703 or 5709. Texting comes in verrrrrry handy when the lines are too busy to get through!

So who’s going to help Save The Beatboxer tonight? Comment here if you’re in! Lurkers, come on out and let us know you’re here to pitch in some votes for Blake too!

By the way, did you know Blake’s already using his fame to give back? Truefax, bbs. Proceeds from the sales of Blaker Girls/Boys merchandise will go toward cancer research at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle. Check out this video of the Blaker Girls in action (plus a bonus appearance by Blake’s adorably proud papa!)…

GO TEAM PLAID!
