We’re not the only ones wishing Blake a happy birthday today! EW’s Michael Slezak siezed the opportunity to pimp Blake’s “underappreciated Audio Day Dream” and his favorite tune from the album, “Know My Name.”

I need to catch up on all the comments, but I do want to send a shout out to the posters who have stuck with us and Blake all this time. I really haven’t had much to say lately, but I do want to thank all y’all! I’m really looking forward to the next chapter of Blake’s career. Since he mentioned his new album will be a cross between Massive Attack and Zero 7 (need to investigate this one), just know that I double heart Massive Attack’s album “Blue Lines.”
This song from that album has always struck me as a bit more R&B throwback than traditional trip-hop, but I’m gonna feature it because it reminds me of summer and I love the message. Too bad the vid itself is a still advert for Vegas. LOL.
He talks about what he’s been up to, the shows he’s played, and finding out from his manager that Arista decided not to pick up the option on a second cd - plus some really cool new pics! This is my favorite story though:
The boys went home and Johnny and I proceeded to Albany, NY for a radio show. It was great. Met up with my friends Metro Station and Ace Young. My friend Blake from Metro actually played a couple keyboard lines on How Many Words. Super great band. It was nice to finally catch up with Ace and hang. His single is coming out soon and I really like it. Much respect.
So we played this radio show and Coolio was there. Gangsta Paradise himself. This story I have to tell. My tour manager, Ace and I are chillin in my room and BOOM!! The fire alarm goes off. This goes on for a good half hour and then BANG, BANG, BANG! Knocks on the door. Its Coolio’s nephew/producer Ghost. Super chill/nice guy and Ace, He and I start rappin bout life and Cool. then ten minutes later there’s another knock at the door. “Fire Department”… open the door and who else could it be… Coolio. I’m laughing. That was funny enough for me. Coolio at my door and he probably started the fire alarm and ran to my room for cover. Perfect way to end a great day.
Check out the rest of the blog here and leave him some love!
I’ll admit to being bit skeptical about Blake getting a new single released, based on the lack of radio response to “Break Anotha” and “How Many Words.” (I’m not even going to speculate on why the response has been so lukewarm. I’ll leave that to peeps in comments! ) So, when I heard through the grapevine that Josh Hoge announced at a recent concert that Blake was pushing for “Know My Name” to be the next single, I took it with a huge grain of salt. Then this popped up:
He may have been a runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol, but singer/songwriter and beatboxer, Blake Lewis is still a winner. And with his album (A.D.D.) Audio Day Dream still pushing out singles like “Break Anotha,” “How Many Words” and the upcoming, “Know My Name/Hyper Psyche” (featuring Lupe Fiasco), Lewis, in an exclusive interview with UGO, is out prove to that he can “beat box” any competition.
Is it wishful thinking? Maybe. We’ll have to sit tight and see. I know many peeps thought KMN would have made a better first single than BA. I have to agree.
The video interview does mention some other projects on the horizon for Blake:
BT- song on his new album
Collaborating w/ The R**** on a song for the AIDS charity, Dance for Life (I couldn’t make out if he said the Roots. It sounded more like the Rude. But isn’t he doing something with Black Thought? Help!). ETA: It’s Darude.
