Such a creative video! I am so glad it wasn’t just your run of the mill video. I can’t wait to see it on tv!

  3. 3 Nikki Dec 6th, 2007 at 9:48 am

Hey everyone, make sure you’re watching The Early Show. They announced that Blake is gonna be on!

  4. 4 Anne Dec 6th, 2007 at 9:52 am

Well…I like the part with the whole band, and Blake looked good.

    I love it! :thumbup_tb:

  6. 6 robbo Dec 6th, 2007 at 10:03 am

WOW! Great video! It looks gorgeous, does justice to the song, and Blake looks smexy! It has a “street” feel to it,which some might call amateurish, but I think suits Blake great.

  7. 7 midge Dec 6th, 2007 at 10:04 am

Yay! That video is so 80s, and totally Blake! pretttttyyyyyy.

Here is an interview from “The Insider” where Blake talks about the video:

That was so much fun! I can see all the ink blot references and it just fit the song artistically. I think for a first video it was very good, and yes, I have to agree that Blake totally knows how to play to the cameras. Visual performance is where he really shines!

  10. 10 maracaibo Dec 6th, 2007 at 10:50 am

I am liking the video! So original, so like Blake!

Probably the best part is where he is performing with the band and the effects on the background.

Great interview from the Insider, Blake looked so cute talking about his career and AI experience. Loving the t-shirt look. He should show his arms more, don’t you think?
    Thanks Pam!

I love that part too! :D

awwwww your welcome girls! I finally got my CD this morning on my doorstep! Actually, it was delievered yesterday, but I have found over many occasions that UPS is notorious for not ringing the doorbell when they make deliveries! UGH! Anyhoo, I just watched the documentary and I must say that I really enjoyed it very much! I was afraid it wouldn’t load on my computer after some of the horror stories I had heard the past couple of days with people not getting it to work once it was downloaded, but I had no problems whatsoever! It was so awesome to see Blake in the process of creating his art and then now seeing how it has turned out! Amazing!

btw, considering the CD has just come out, A.D.D. is still doing pretty well on Amazon. It has dropped on notch on best sellers to #15, but that’s still pretty good!

  14. 14 Anne Dec 6th, 2007 at 11:26 am

I just read that Blake was on the Early Show and it closed out with him singing How Many Words. Did anyone tape this?

Have no clue Anne. I totally forgot about this! I hope MJ taped it. It’s not up on the website for the Early Show that I can tell you.

I Loved this video. I really could’ve done with out the actors doing the role–but the parts with Blake and the music and colors was so AWESOME!!! Love that. I think people will really dig this visually.

  17. 17 mj Dec 6th, 2007 at 11:49 am

I’ll have to look on my video for that…

  18. 18 Anne Dec 6th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

It kinda of; and I mean kinda of, reminds of the style of Mary J. Bliges video Just Fine. In that fact that it is mostly just her jamming with some special effects.

  19. 19 Bully Dec 6th, 2007 at 12:38 pm

Pam, thanks for the link to Insider–I really enjoyed that. BTW, I STILL have not gotten my Amazon album delivered. I guess it’ll hit today huh.

Loved hearing him talk about the special effects, and where they came from etc. Is the friend he’s talking about, is this Ethan or Sawka?

  20. 20 Butet Dec 6th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

The best part was when he was with the band. The ink blot thing was alright. And I didn’t like the characters..As a whole I didn’t like it.

    of the song.

  24. 24 Shana Dec 6th, 2007 at 2:55 pm

Woo! Great song, Blake looks great, great effects, and great storyline! What else could we ask more in a video?! Lets get this all over MTV and VH1

  25. 25 Bully Dec 6th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

I dunno, I see Elsewhere that people aren’t liking the video. Now, I can see the very relevant point made by one girl–that the song was shortened and did not contain the breakdown, which is the most important part of the song. It is a relevant point–but gosh. I LOVE the thing, the actor part taken aside.

The colors, the moving stuff and effects…The close-up photography of Blake, and the cut-out silhouette of him dancing? Oh yeah! Love that! It catches my imagination. I liked the snippet I saw last night, and I still do.

  26. 26 chatforblake Dec 6th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

I havent got my amazon copy yet either.
When I checked on the order said the
eleventh I may get it. I think it may
be do to the storm we had here though
all our roads are closed to get into
town. They will be opening today though.

Does anyone else right side of the box
that you type in disappear it makes it
hard to proof read. Is there a way
    to fix it?

Bully, I agree, they cut out the best part of the song. I like the ink blot thing, but I think it cut away from the story of the song. The actor and actresses part of the video sucked. I felt like I was in a bad movie. The parts where Blake is dancing is cool. I don’t know I guess it has to grow on me. Ive watched thrice now, and I am liking it more and more, but it still doesnt work for me

  28. 28 dani Dec 6th, 2007 at 5:47 pm

I lov e the video excapt
A they took out the best part of the song
B the actors and actresses suck
    C theres not enough blake

did at the beging did it go liker 2x faster than it was supose to for a few seconds??

  29. 29 robbo Dec 6th, 2007 at 6:54 pm

I don’t hear what’s missing. Fill me in.

About the actors….I think they’re fine for a music video. I never expected them to be the focal point anyway. Blake seems pretty front-n-center to me here.
I wonder how much money was budgeted for this.

  30. 30 kati Dec 6th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Love the song, but the video to me looked very low budget IMHO. Maybe the next one will be a tad more professional if Break Anotha does well sales-wise. Hey, just tryin’ to keep it real!

  31. 31 maracaibo Dec 6th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

Love the song, but the video to me looked very low budget IMHO

Yeah, it looked very low budget to me too. I mean I liked it, but now that I’ve seen it several times, I dunno if the general public is going to like it. It’s like too 80’s for nowadays and a bit cheesy to be honest with you. The actors were terrible, I could have done without them.
I don’t know why they did not invest a bit more on his first official video, Daughtry and even Kat and Elliott had better videos IMO.
But hey, whatever. I still love the song and I hope Blake attracts new fans, if not with the video, on the radio.

  32. 32 Vicki Dec 6th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

I love the video especially at the end when Blake and the band are black and white with the colored background. He looks amazing. It reminded me a little of the A-ha “Take on Me” video. I was a teenager in the 80s what can I say. I also loved in that Insider interview where he talked about not taking things for granted. He seems to truly appreciate his fans as pointed out in greeneyes story about The Sauce too. I love that he is so down to earth and polite.

  33. 33 dani Dec 7th, 2007 at 12:04 am

ithink the only cheesy thing bout the vid would be the actors… they were unessicary… Blake could have done it and had a hoody!

  34. 34 Butet Dec 7th, 2007 at 12:35 am

Love the song, but the video to me looked very low budget IMHO

Considering that Arista and Clive is trying to pimp out Blake as much as they can, you would have thought they would give him a larger budget. But I don’t think that budgeting is the only issue, I think it was the time constraint. I think that they need to get that video out as soon as the album came out. I mean, most video shoots take two to three full days to shoot. Didn’t they shoot that video about 2 weeks ago (when ever the MTV report happened)? I’d expected the video to come out around Christmas.

I mean, the video is alright, fans will adore it, because we think we get artist-y Blake, and his type of thinking, but the larger public will largely find it odd.

  35. 35 Crystal J. Dec 7th, 2007 at 12:37 am

Oh, Vicki, how funny that you mention the A-Ha “Take on Me.” Someone was just asking me about them and I looked up the video to send them because a friend of theirs said EOTW reminded them of A-Ha. I loved the way this video told a story, and loved the song/music too. That video, along with MJ’s “Beat It,” remain my favorite videos of all time. But I haven’t watched many videos since the mid-80’s.

Vicki - I’d have loved for all, or most of, the vid to be shot with that psychedelic red background! But then people would have been upset not to see faces! Or, even to expand the ink-blot sections to cover the band.

Did any of you see that horrible Snoop video they ran on “The Sauce” while waiting for Blake’s segment? Now that was just awful and very low-budget to me.

  36. 36 Vicki Dec 7th, 2007 at 1:47 am

Crystal J. I lived for MTV when I was a teenager. Duran Duran was my obsession then. Still love them and they also have a new CD that came out about a month ago. Haven’t gotten it yet though. I am so nostalgic for the days when MTV played videos. It is kind of funny that those of us in our mid 30’s and later remember the 80s and now can hear so much of it in Blake’s music. He makes me feel like that 13 year old again. It is such a fun, giddy feeling.

  37. 37 Nic Dec 7th, 2007 at 2:57 am

I don’t know why they did not invest a bit more on his first official video, Daughtry and even Kat and Elliott had better videos IMO.

    Mara,

I actually thought Elliott’s video was much worse than Blake’s! It was really low budget, with Elliott sitting in a room half the time and the girl by the chain link fence.. lol.

I can see why Blake’s video wouldn’t be for everyone, but at least it’s a little more creative than most videos out there. The ink blot effect is pretty cool, and I totally loved the graphic novel effect (aka the ‘A-ha’ part of it). The storyline wasn’t doing too much for me, and I thought the male actor wasn’t very attractive. Too bad Blake couldn’t have really played up the whole sinister side himself.

The freezing still effect on the storyline was a nice touch IMO, seemed to match the beat of the song.

Yes, NO breakdown = bummer :(((((. But I honestly do think time constraints played a factor in how the video came out.

Blake is quite a photogenic lad. :D

    Vicki,

I’ve said it before, but Blake reminds me of those 80’s Euro-Brit new wave or pop-rockers like Sting, Bono, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Erasure, etc. The smooth, swoony voice and all ;).

Anyone else thinking that “Break Anotha” is kinda channeling the Chili Peppers a little bit too? I was trying to figure out what it reminded me of and they came to mind, with the whole alt-funk-rock vibe the song has.

  39. 39 Crystal J. Dec 7th, 2007 at 5:54 am

Guys - I just watched the vid again thru the above link. I don’t think there is any part missing. The length of the vid is 3:13 and the song at iTunes is 3:09 (on the album cut).

I like this video better on the 2nd and 3rd watch. Initially, I was sort of hoping that B would be the heartbreaker. Tho, I don’t think the actor is believable in this role, I am not having a problem with those scenes. And, as NIc pointed out above, the freeze frame that converts to b/w is pretty neat.

Now, all along I said I’ve liked the ink blots and the psychadelic red backgrounds. Frankly, I would have loved these on the whole vid. And I do think these effects are going to play out better on the tv.

Actually, if I had to grade the video, I would probably put it in the “B” range, only because I’d have liked to see Blake in the actor’s role. Or, I think it might have worked for us not to even see the bad guy, until the last scene (or the reveal in the song).

And, Nic pointed out to me, that the artists actutally pay for the vids themselves out of their profits.

I would also point out that Sanji’s vids tend to have a bit of a gritty/urban feel to them.

  40. 40 Vicki Dec 7th, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Nic I have read your comments referring to that resemblance before and totally agree. Simon Le Bon is the only other famous person to cause this kind of obsession for me. I also agree about the freeze frame black and white-I think it’s cool. Maybe those of us who were into MTV in the 80s have a different perspective on music videos?
