Blake’s Seattle Concert

There are obviously a lot of videos and mp3s floating around of Blake’s visit to his home state. I wanted to get the party started by posting part of Blake’s Seattle concert (Beware the girly screams). I am sure others will be putting more stuff up soon.

Also - I won’t be here next week so please do all you can to keep Blake in this competition. Blake wants to win despite any rumors to the contrary. Thanks!

I totally agree Erinn. I couldn’t place the vibe at first, but it is so Owen Wilson. Plus, the retouched them so much, its pathetic I don’t know about Blake, but both Melinda and Jordin look thinner. Melinda looks so much younger I can barely recognize her. Blake and Jordin look pretty different as well.

I don’t like the whole glitzy look for them at all. I was hoping for a cover similar to the Justin-Kelly-Tamyra cover from season one (Nikki McKibbin was still in the contest and they totally left her off the cover). Justin was in the middle with his hands up in an “I don’t know” pose. Kelly was on the left and Tamyra was on the right. They just smiled. The photo was fun and it displayed the exact thoughts that were going through the nation’s mind: Who is going to win?

I think we have the same sentiment this year, but so much stronger. We have the best top three ever. Not necessarily because they are any better than past winner’s (Carrie and Kelly) or losers (Daughtry), but they are so evenly matched that we really have no clue who will be voted off this week.

I loved the tv guide magazine with the top 3 last year. It was very classy. I think they were all in white and posed nicely.

  3. 53 nikki May 14th, 2007 at 4:58 am

ilikebunnies, you are 100% right & I agree with you 100%, but If TPTB try to sabotage Blake, I hope he kicks ass with the 3 performances to pretty much tell the producers to go “fuck themsevles”

Season 6 is Season 3 with better voting.

Okay. I know I have posted a lot, but I have a lot to say about this season. Its just great. I think this is how Season Three was supposed to end. Season three had amazing talent on one side and horrible talent on the other side. We even have the same respective roles of the contestants.

Lakisha = Jennifer Hudson (Amazing voice, but needs better vocal control)
Melinda = LaToya London (expected to win early on)
Jordin Sparks = Fantasia (pimped by the judges)
Haley Scarnato = Leah Labelle (how did you make to the Top 12)
Gina = Amy Adams (not the best, but left too early)
Sanjaya = John Stevens (needs no explanation)
Blake Lewis = Jon Peter Lewis(fun and entertaining - though Blake has better vocal control)
Chris Richardson = Diana Degarmo(high potential for success or obscurity depending on their actions)
Phil Stacey = Matthew Rodgers (Older Guy who is likeable, but inconsistent)
Chris Sligh = George Huff (Christian Music singer)
Stephanie Edwards = Jasmine Trias (looks like a pop princess)
Brandon Rodgers = Camile Valesco (smoothe R&B vocal, but small fan base)

Now imagine what the top 4 would have been like for season 3 based on season 6 standings. That would be Jennifer Hudson, Jon Peter Lewis, Fantasia Barrino, and Latoya London as the Top 4. That would have been a kicka$$ ending. But the voting got screwed up early on. Instead we ended with three finalists under the age of twenty: Fantasia, Diana, and Jasmine. That was the worst Top 3 ever. Based on the relationships listed above, its like having Stephanie Edwards, Jordin Sparks, and Chris Richardson as the Top 3. And in that case, well duh, Jordin would win.

So America, I applaud you for saving Season 6 from the potential failure of Season 3.

Thanks star for posting the link to the interview. :)

I just can’t believe TPTB are picking who is going to be eliminated. If I did believe that, I couldn’t watch the show. If it wasn’t fair, then why bother? However, I do agree that they have their favorites. I don’t think their favorites automatically get a pass though. Just look at Taylor. Definitely not a fav and he took the whole thing. :) So even if they do pimp or favor some, it doesn’t guarantee them anything. I think out of this top 3, Blake definitely has the strongest fan base.

I’m super excited to see what he’ll sing tomorrow. When do we get to find out Clive’s choice?

  6. 56 RollTide May 14th, 2007 at 7:55 am

And the main thing I’m concerned with this week is which song we’ll get for download. :) Since we only got 1/2 downloads from last week, and I really wanted Blake’s second song too, that is my main concern. What if he sings a full version of SOWK, and they don’t make it available for download? Now that will be a tragedy.

  7. 57 Karen May 14th, 2007 at 8:27 am

“I think out of this top 3, Blake definitely has the strongest fan base. ”

Not necessarily. I think Blake has the most active fan base. Blake supporters have posters, blogs, and use chatrooms a lot. I think we can tell he has fans whereas Melinda and Jordin are supported by people who are less likely to use these forms of media. When I am in non-idol related chatrooms people generally support Melinda or Jordin. They are more casual voters, but I think there are more of them.

  8. 58 jenlar May 14th, 2007 at 8:32 am

I dunno. I am new to this whole Idol and something definitely stinks, but it still looks very good for Blake to make it to the top 2. Is there a set of instructions on how to vote using a Go Phone and what kind to get? If LB2 isn’t going to be here then I’ll gladly cover some of her votes. :D

Rolltide said: “What if he sings a full version of SOWK, and they don’t make it available for download? Now that will be a tragedy.”

Ohh… don’t even think like that! The end of SOWK live in Seattle was so gorgeous and much more powerful than his AI performance (which was already beyond words.) I’d love to see him perform it on the show again, along with Time of the Season. YGLaBN was magic when it happened but has probably had too much exposure to really “wow” the audience like it did before.

I’m probably in the minority now, but I’d still love to hear some Maroon 5. “She Will Be Loved” would be a dream in his voice!

  9. 59 Sarah May 14th, 2007 at 8:36 am

Here’s a cool poll! It asks which pair you would like to see in the finale, and who you’d like to win. Good stuff!

“I think we can tell he has fans whereas Melinda and Jordin are supported by people who are less likely to use these forms of media.”

Yeah, venturing into TeeVeeFandomLand, you’d think that Gilmore Girls and Charmed are the most popular shows on TV. Hopefully, since we don’t get just one or two votes, we can close any gap between the fanbases if there are any.

  11. 61 Sarah May 14th, 2007 at 8:57 am

I think that of the internet fanbases, Blake’s is most definitely the most active and vocal.

However, overall, I’d say that at this point, they all have pretty big fanbases. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - what really matters is having THE best performance(s) to win the swing voters each week. Especially in Blake’s case, because it seems like the smallest slip-up on his part is going to get him slaughtered by the judges. But if he really steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park, what bad can they say?

I hope Blake can step up and really deliver tomorrow night, and provide an unexpected “moment” a la Bo Bice in season 4’s top 3 with “In a Dream”. I don’t know about everyone else, but that performance gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. Especially because at that point in time, since it always gets catty in this part of the competition, people were saying “Bo can’t really sing, he’s just a mediocre rocker with a mediocre voice, Carrie and Vonzell are both so much better, blah blah blah blah blah”, and he came out and delivered THE moment of the entire season - a capella.

Blake is capable of doing that… I KNOW he is. And he needs a “wow” performance like that, with no beatboxing, to silence the critics and cement his spot in the top 2.

  12. 62 Sarah May 14th, 2007 at 9:06 am

Jenlar - about the Go Phone - I just got the cheapest one (I think it was like $18) and add $$ onto it every week. Texts cost $.05 each. When you buy it, it comes loaded with $10 already, and I bought a $25 card to go along with it.

On the cheapest version of the go phone, once you program in one vote and it sends, you can keep resending that text from the outbox without having to type the information in again each time. The only frustration I have is that it tells you how much you have left on your account after each text is sent, and you have to hit “exit” or something each time that appears before it sends your vote.

I found that I can get in about 500 text votes (the $25 card) each week in the two hour time frame. While I’m texting with one hand, I’m dialing with either my regular cell or my landline in the other. It goes a little slower dialing that way, but with text votes, you know each one is going through, so I think it’s worth it.

I’m just a posting maniac today, but anyway…

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but I don’t think he should reprise “You Give Love a Bad Name” in the finale. It’s too soon, it was given a lot of exposure and big praise, and it was so good then partially because it was unexpected. We knew he was gonna be beatboxing but we didn’t know what song or the direction he was going to take it. And truthfully? I think the drastic hair color change (which I STILL love) added an air of awesomeness and unpredictability to the performance too. It had you on the edge of your seat from the beginning because you had no idea what was going to happen or how awesome it was going to be. Now? It’s going to be hard to recreate that magic again, unless he changes the performance up a little.

I just think that there have been so many other great performances that were early on that he could reprise. “Somewhere Only We Know” and “Time Of The Season” are just two of those. I think they are his best bets because SOWK gives him the WOW vocal moment, if he sings it like he did in Seattle, and TOTS gives him the opportunity to beatbox and sizzle on the stage (remember the FM looks he was giving during that performance?).

YGLABN was GREAT, don’t misunderstand me… but you have to take strategy into play here too, and I don’t think it would be a good strategic move to sing it again so soon. It’s too fresh in most of the viewers’ minds.

I swear, these contestants need to hire some of us as consultants. Heh.

    Me too ;)

I totally agree. I watched it so many times, I think its losts its shock value for the moment. I want to hear I Need To Know again. That performance was HAWT.

“I swear, these contestants need to hire some of us as consultants. Heh.”

Heehee, so true. Do you think we are a little bit obsessed? I mean we are strategizing a game plan for something we have no control over. LOL.

  15. 65 star May 14th, 2007 at 9:59 am

Sarah, your opinion isn’t unpopular with me. As I said, my dream combination would be TOTS (heh, gimme your tots!!!!!) with SOWK. Retire YGLABN until the tour.

Lucky for Blake, he has a lot of amazing performances to choose from. :)

  16. 66 RollTide May 14th, 2007 at 10:04 am

“TOTS gives him the opportunity to beatbox and sizzle on the stage (remember the FM looks he was giving during that performance?).”

    ———————————————————

Oh yeah, I definitely remember. Those looks have a 2 hour show still sitting on my DVR. I can’t bring myself to delete that show. Ever since that performance, I stop the recording when Blake comes on, and then restart it with just him. That way, I don’t have to leave hours and hours of AI on my DVR….instead just about 5 minutes each week.

And Jenlar, don’t remind me of Gilmore Girls. I’m so bummed that tomorrow is the last episode ever and that they broke up Rorie and Logan right before the series finale. ARGH! Sorry for that rant. ;)

Count me on that one too, Sarah. I 100% agree.

YGLBN is too recent, and he probably won’t be able to catch the same magic. Just because it’s too recent.

I think Blake right now needs to remind people what a great vocalist he really is. People sometimes forget about his voice because of the beatboxing, that’s the just the way it is.

So I vote for him to reprise SOWK and have a WOW vocal moment. It a critical step this week. He needs to keep balance with the beatboxing.

SOWK it’ s great song for his voice, and he can nail it.
Many people like me instantly became Blake fans after we saw him sing that song on Top 24 night.
I just hope everything works out for him tomorrow. Strategy is key.

“remember the FM looks he was giving during that performance”

    *hic* yeah. *whimpers*

I’m making voting banners today so I’ll be around a bit. Anyone have anything they’d like to see in one? How about one specifically for Team Plaid?

  19. 69 Sarah May 14th, 2007 at 10:20 am

Just for clarification - I’m not talking about performances for top 3 week. My suggestion of reprising TOTS and SOWK is for the finale. I’d rather him do a completely new song this week.

RollTide: “Those looks have a 2 hour show still sitting on my DVR. I can’t bring myself to delete that show.”

I’m with ya there. *blush* (hmmm… wonder what happened to our smileys? *makes note to check on that*)

Another reason I think it would be good to reprise TOTS or INTK instead of YGLABN is because, while the first two were awesome and he got great reviews for them, he was not the primary focus from the night in regards to the media. Those were also the nights that Sanjaya had his two most, um, interesting, performances (”You Really Got Me” and “Besame Mucho”), so he got a lot of the after show focus. YGLABN placed media focus squarely on Blake because it was the one big standout performance of the night - without Sanjaya around to divert the focus anymore. Heh.

Man I really overthink stuff. Heh. But I love to break down and analyze.

Are any other Taylor fans as excited as me about having TRIPLE the eyecandy on Leno tonight? Blake, Taylor, AND Loren. Yum.

  20. 70 Cat May 14th, 2007 at 12:58 pm

I just remembered that Katharine McPhee got in trouble for doing Black Horse and the Cherry Tree (or whatever) again so soon, I think it was in the finale or maybe top 3. Simon specifically said it was a bad idea to do something like 2 weeks after the first time (too easy to compare, etc)

Definitely Blake should do SOWK and TOTS since I bet alot of people don’t remember those songs (well, regular people)

I don’t even know why this show tells us to vote ever if they are just going to rig it all the time or in the end. Im still going to vote for Blake, but I hate what they are doing to him. (with the Taylor thing…yeah, they didnt have control, but thats what ive noticed from this year…they are totally taking control now.) I think out of this top 3 that Blake has the biggest fanbase as well…just look at his home crowd! Dang!

“(remember the FM looks he was giving during that performance?).”

    What are FM looks?

  22. 72 Sarah May 14th, 2007 at 2:44 pm

    FM = f*ck me

    heh.
