Thanks, Kasia. I was hoping there was a way to vote directly through the station’s website. Oh well.

  2. 52 melissa Mar 17th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

I dont want Blake to change any thing
about himself. I think his comments shouldnt
turn off anyone he is just being honest.
Like someone said above the people that
dont like Blake are going to find something
negative to say anyway. As far as David
Cook and Doxology I dont blame Blake
feeling way he does they are his friends
and friends you stick up for. If he said
nothing then his friends will feel slighted
so its a lose lose situation no matter
what. Knowing that I would defend my
friends and not worry about what my fans
    might think.

Since they are his friends I expect him to defend them, besides Blake did say he likes Cook.

  3. 53 Kasia Mar 17th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

    Star,

If you go to the station website to request the song, (here is the address http://www.fm97.com/main.html) it will take you to the standard form that I listed.

They do not have a specific list of songs to vote for for 5@9. The 5 songs that get the most votes each day are played. Aaron said that he likes using those forms as the count is accurate. So, I would encourage people to use the standard forms if they want to vote. Once HMW is played twice, they will include in the playlist, and we will not have to type in the song.

I imagine myself in the same position as Blake, put on the spot so often. I’d have inserted my foot in my mouth a million times. Hindsight is always 20/20, and so is armchair-quarterbacking and second-guessing. He’s never going to please everyone, so the only person he can be true to is himself. No matter what happens, the man will always be making music.

ETA: And I will always be buying his music. I dread the day he would become bland in his interviews.

  5. 55 melissa Mar 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm

    True.

  6. 56 ilikebunnies Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Hindsight is always 20/20, and so is armchair-quarterbacking and second-guessing.

Ehhh… but it’s not just a one-time thing, and he brags about being tactless. I don’t think it’s a mistake. Interviews are different from “real life.” I have a potty mouth, but you’d better believe that I reel that in when I’m at work talking to my boss. I definitely agree though about continuing to buy his music, unless he does something ridiculous.

  7. 57 Charles C. Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

My God, some of you all here are such whiners and worryers. Perhaps the quality of your lives would be better if you didn’t obsess over every single word and utterance of a man you really don’t know.

  8. 58 Kasia Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

    Charles,

Don’t you know that females are detailed oriented and worry about things by nature.:)

Seriously, I agree with you. I said it before; Blake made so many wonderful comments when I saw him in the radio and he was such an interesting and engaging speaker when he talked about music. This along with him humming music that the DJ played was a very special and unforgettable experience. I personally, choose to focus on the positive things that come out during the interviews.

  9. 59 Nikki Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Crystal J., I totally agree with your entire post.

Yay for more radio appearances. Hope his radio tour includes a stop in Texas. :)

  10. 60 Holly Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

I do agree some worry a little too much, not that that’s such a bad thing. I just focus on the positive too. I don’t worry so much about Blake or the things he says. He shouldn’t have to filter himself and I’m glad he doesn’t. I like it better that way and it makes the interviews more interesting.

And if people don’t buy his album because of one negative comment, then were they really his fan in the first place?…

  11. 61 Pam Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:30 pm

Yay for more radio appearances. Hope his radio tour includes a stop in Texas. :)

I know that would make Butet happy too. :D Read her post on page 1 of this thread. Hee! Seriously though I would love for him to visit the Dallas/Ft. Worth area too. I have a brother that lives there Butet. :D

  12. 62 music4me Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:37 pm

Crystal J, I agree with everything you said.:)

And that radio two-er needs to come to Georgia, ASAP!

  13. 63 newduck Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:50 pm

    go Crystal!

I think Blake is more interesting than most people I have heard on the radio, simply because he sounds REAL. He doesn’t sound like he’s reading a card, or saying what he was taught to say by TPTB. I prefer that over the fakeness and cliches coming from most interviewees these days.

  14. 64 Holly Mar 17th, 2008 at 10:57 pm

newduck, that’s exactly how I feel.

  15. 65 chatforblake Mar 17th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

New duck that is why I like blake to hes not a carbon copy. I hate listening to some interviews because you know what they are going to say
    before they open their mouths.

  16. 66 ilikebunnies Mar 18th, 2008 at 1:00 am

My God, some of you all here are such whiners and worryers. Perhaps the quality of your lives would be better if you didn’t obsess over every single word and utterance of a man you really don’t know.

Well, the whole point of going on a message board is to discuss these things, and everyone will have different opinions. I don’t feel like the “quality of my life” has been diminished because I don’t agree with this particular decision of Blakes lol

  17. 67 newduck Mar 18th, 2008 at 1:02 am

ok, guys. i’m not going to take the kids to see B tomorrow. I can’t get a confirmation from any of the radio stations here that he will be there.
The bummer is my dd waited 6 hours outside of DC’s concert to meet him and, though we met some of the others, he didn’t come out that day. (which is fine, cause none of them had to come out and we were lucky to see the ones we did see) I was hoping that she could finally meet him.

  18. 68 Nic Mar 18th, 2008 at 1:16 am

I understand that people can get offended by what Blake says, but there are certainly quite a few musicians or celebrities in general who are hardly my idea of a model citizen. Kanye West? I find the guy to be an utter douchebag from a personal perspective, lol. To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of his music either but I’ve heard many people say “He’s an ass but I still like his songs.” Or then you have Britney the total train wreck yet people were still buying her last CD.

Sometimes it really does seem to be a case of people nitpicking every little thing Blake says.

  19. 69 newduck Mar 18th, 2008 at 1:49 am

Here, here on the Kanye West personal perspective.
I do kinda like some of his music though, but would never buy it, cause I disagree with who he is as a person…or who he is presenting himself as

  20. 70 dani Mar 18th, 2008 at 2:10 am

    Guys!!!
Thanks for telling me what you think about my voki! I like recorded it a million times before I got it just right! ( I love the pacman too! ipicked it cuz thats totally me except I’m not that skinny or pretty)

Guys I’m trying to find a place to upload me singing HMW IF I upload it somewhere and posted the link… would you guys give it a listen (Find out how good… or bad a singer this 13 year old is!)

  21. 71 Eileen Mar 18th, 2008 at 3:37 am

When you are Kanye or Britney or Jack Nicholson for that matter, and you have made not only yourself very rich, but a lot of other people rich who are invested in you financially (and emotionally as per a large worldwide fan base), people overlook your bad behavior and you get away with more bad behavior .. at least for a little while. That’s the difference. It is not fair, but it is how the world works.

Anyway, at least the album is still on the ITunes Top 100. I do think the radio tour is the right thing to be doing right now. Play that song!!

  22. 72 Bully Mar 18th, 2008 at 10:19 am

And if people don’t buy his album because of one negative comment, then were they really his fan in the first place?…

I’ve been thinking about this, and I do have to say, what is said in interviews DOES make a difference, for better or worse. People can “fall out of love” if they perceive the person is different than how they thought, or if he offends them, or if they are simply disappointed in who he is as a person. It doesn;t make them less of a fan, but unable to support someone they can’t “personally”. (ie Kanye West)That is important, to people.

I have noticed this happen, after a key interview. He’ll say something, and it will get taken in such a way— and there will be a fall out. In the same way, the “Sh*tting in My Toliet” video really threw people for a loop, remember? There was talk of the label freaking out, and wanting it pulled from his page, but he wouldn;t? and there was a mass response to that, and that sort of behavior from him, in that time. Us middle-road, everyday, nice folks can’t always go with what we perceive as offensive, or popping of the dream-bubble. He shook me off in the timeline too, that whole 2 sides of him discussion? yeah.

What endured however, was his honesty and genuine appeal. He’s so in the moment, I cut him alot of slack for that. I admire honesty, but I don’t always know how to handle or process other stuff. Some fans just won’t. They turn around and move on. *shrug*

He could shake me loose, with bad behavior. He really could. But right now his earnestness and talent far outweigh the questionable.

  23. 73 Bully Mar 18th, 2008 at 10:42 am

I understand your point. Making bad comments about other artists, even those you can’t believe get called that term, does not make you a better artist in anyone’s eyes. For example, the Britney Spears comments did lose him sales and fans in my opinion. You insult the artist, you insult their fans by saying they have bad taste. If you want to make a living in any profession, not publicly disrespecting your colleagues will keep focus on your work which is what you want to contribute to the world. Blake is still grappling with celebrity and exhaustion. Blake has his flaws, but I love him anyway.

    Eileen and ilikebunnies–ITA.
(ilikebunnies, you particularly have a salient point of view in being diplomatic, and how some of the remarks were in fact offputting.)
The Britney Spears comments, it’s true, she has a ton of fans…and he/we need to be expanding the fanbase, not alienating potential new ones!LOL. When he makes even an offhand remark negatively about a performer–Sanjaya, Britney, whatever– there is an instantaneous result within that fanbase of,”God, he’s a jerk! Did you hear what he said?” They say a bad experience goes 10times further, in sharing it with others. The ripple effect can be significant.

I think he’s gotten so used to reporters and interviewers asking him about Sanjaya all the time, he’s begun bringing forward his own response on his own. It begins to come across as Sanjaya-bashing, and fanjayas won;t appreciate it.:-/
or, any remark against Jordin and her character, you’re right, Lisa. Her fans are legion in number, and loyalty, because of her sterling reputation. We know Blake loves her, but they won;t take disparaging remarks well at all– and the comment about TIMN being a fix, and “Well Jordin, guess you’ve won the competition! oh well!” It comes across not-nice. Nope.

  24. 74 Bully Mar 18th, 2008 at 10:46 am

    ilikebunnies– and being diplomatic:

About the Doxology thing– Blake AND them would have been FAR better served by pointing out their own version of EleanorRigby. Blake could post a Bulletin, singing the praises of Doxlogy’s own version(and album) and set his legion of fans to iTunes to buy it and support his friend. Positive response and proactive selling goes way further, than negative behavior.

Use the damn power of MS, and having 85K friends, and spread the word in a good and friendly manner. If half those people checked it out, Doxlogy would make a tidy sum, and then they’d all be winners.

  25. 75 Lisa Mar 18th, 2008 at 10:54 am

Anyone here knows I’m a huge Kanye fan and I’m fully aware he’s viewed as an ass. Many times he’s pissed people off with things he’s chosen to say. Kanye is even less filtered than Blake..however Kanye is also a multi-platinum, Grammy award winning artist that’s well respected in the industry for his music. He can afford to be a little obnoxious.

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of his music either but I’ve heard many people say “He’s an ass but I still like his songs.” Or then you have Britney the total train wreck yet people were still buying her last CD.

The problem with Blake is he’s still a new artist cementing his place in the industry and the hard truth is he’s struggling to sell 300,000 albums so I’m not so sure people are buying regardless. Lack of airplay can only be used for so long considering he got such a minimal bump after AI.

I have noticed this happen, after a key interview. He’ll say something, and it will get taken in such a way— and there will be a fall out. In the same way, the “Sh*tting in My Toliet” video really threw people for a loop, remember?

Very good post Bully, but I have to say this part I quoted jumped out at me because I do think that particular video did hurt him. Even myself who has a high tolerance for a lot nearly got a little turned off by that.

  26. 76 Bully Mar 18th, 2008 at 11:39 am

I agree Lisa. Me too. The whole contraversial!Blake thing rubs me the wrong way. I can respect him for being ingenuous and honest, but gosh.
I have to say I am one of those people, that has to feel good about him, to enjoy him. It does matter, to me.

Along that same thoughtline, whether you were a Kanye fan or not, you had to enjoy and tear up at the tribute he did for his mom at the awards show. Who could remember anything bad about him, when he was so bent on giving him Mom a message of love, to heaven? It offered him a redemption in a way, because we see him as a thoughtful son, and sympathize. Basic human emotion, in commonality.

Some of us allow for more buffeting and room for error, but there are people once offended that never look back. I think Blake and his white-bread fanbase have been affected by that phenomenon, definitely.

  27. 77 Nic Mar 18th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

    Eileen,

yeah, you’re right, but I was under the impression that acting like an ass isn’t something new to Kanye and he’s been doing it since earlier on in his career (!??). I’ve heard countless stories of what a jerk and egomaniac he is for years. Otherwise, you’re correct that Blake isn’t the one selling millions of CD’s so he’s not going to get as much slack.

I guess I have a higher tolerance for Blake’s comments than a lot of people because most of the time he doesn’t bother me. I really don’t feel the need to scrutinize every comment either, though. I accept that EVERY person on the earth says STUPID SHIT once in a while, no matter WHO they are, and move on.

Also, I can’t help but wonder if some of his comments are said in a joking way and people aren’t getting his humor, too. I know he can have a sarcastic-dry wit at times and it can go over people’s heads. Anyway, yeah, I understand everyone’s points that he might want to watch what he says but on the other hand I HATE sanitized, boring interviews that are completely politically correct.

    Bully,

I didn’t see all of the Grammies so I missed Kanye’s acceptance speech, but I remember some fans bitching how Kanye was being a jackass about demanding more time (making it all about himself).

  28. 78 Nic Mar 18th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

    Bully,

normally I’d see how this remark would be offensive but let’s face it, the WHOLE COUNTRY could tell that Blake got the shaft and that song GUARANTEED Jordin the victory! LOL. Fix indeed. Sorry, I call it like I see it ;). Even the Blake haters could tell he got screwed.

  29. 79 Bully Mar 18th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

    Hey Nic–
Kanye performed a song dedicated to his mom, Angels or something, and it was very touching. I guess he was in a pretty serious mood because of it and his mom not being there etc, so he was a little uh, direct, with saying he wanted a few minutes to just say what he felt.

As for the Jordin and TIMN– I actually like his rendition of it, even tho it wasn;t good live. I know it wasn;t really a good song for him, but it’s ungracious to say that kind of stuff. We know it didn;t suit him, never would’ve picked it, we understand. Perhaps ANY song TPTB would have picked would have sucked for him, you know? Is Do I Make You Proud any better? ugh. I prefer TIMN, over several of those end of season cheese-fests.

  30. 80 Nic Mar 18th, 2008 at 5:46 pm

    Bully,

I had read that Kanye wanted extra time to say something about his mother, but I still remember some viewers thinking he was being a jerk demanding more time than everyone else.

as for TIMN, my main gripe is Nigel refused to let Blake re-arrange the song AT ALL and I heard the song writers even offered to give B a new song (even THEY realized how horrendously ill suited it was for his voice!) and Nigel said NO. That pissed me off when I heard about it well after Idol ended and just proves that they wanted a Jordin win, IMO (but I thought they wanted her to win from early on during the competition).

  31. 81 Lori Mar 18th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

Ooh…looks like by that schedule he’s making his way down south…hopefully Memphis is coming soon! :)

  32. 82 Crystal J. Mar 18th, 2008 at 11:25 pm

Nic - ITA with all your posts above.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I respect that. I guess I’m a pretty liberal-minded person that thinks everyone can speak their mind. I don’t judge them for it, even those people I might disagree with (i.e. Cat Stevens - still love his music, tho I don’t like some things he said).

Anyway, I like to think that if B. alienates one Sanjaya fan, maybe he gains another fan somewhere else that realizes he is not this squeaky clean Disneyfied AI clone.

Blake shouldn’t have to change who he is to make this fan of someone else happy, or that fan of another happy. He just needs to be true to himself. If he decides to put a filter on it, that’s his decision. If he doesn’t, that is also his decision. I’m here for the music first. The candid personality is a bonus for me.

  33. 83 Bully Mar 19th, 2008 at 11:01 am

Crystal J– I like Cat Stevens too. I think religion and politics can really cloud an issue if not a promotion, but I do understand and embrace the rhetoric he espouses in his songs. I think the vibe he has, the feeling of peace and love, he wants to communicate that. It transcends alot of the craap that might get in the way, should he and I try to have a discussion on particulars. :-)

I think that’s the important thing about an artist–being able to reach across a divide of cultural and philosophical differences, to share an admiration and feeling somewhere in the middle.

I can’t claim such high-minded musical ideals as you and some others, about the music being first. I need the music to be something that can reach me, and i need the sentiment and good feeling behind it. I am all about non-verbal communication(despite my chattiness!) and I need the good will along with good lyric. Last year, Blake infused himself and his feeling into his performances, and that’s why I am here I guess.
