Don’t forget that Blake has not one, but two television appearances tomorrow. In the morning, he’ll appear on The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet along with Jordin and Melinda. Later, the top three Idols peform on “Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular,” which airs from 9-10 p.m. EST. Check your local listings and set your recording devices accordingly. As always, we will put video up as soon as we can.

I kinda have a feeling that the M&J show appearance will just be a repeat of “She Will Be Loved.” Aren’t there supposed to be a bunch of Idols on there tomorrow? I am not suprised the shows were repeats today. Everyone wants to take the 4th of July off. Plus, The View is on hiatus all week. And if you think about it. The Idols are probably on their way to Flordia. The tour starts on Friday and they have to be ready.

OK, I just watched the Macy’s 4th of July performance. In a word, underwhelmed. They might as well have made Blake a backup singer. I could tell the poor guy just wanted to jazz it up a bit and throw in something to make it a LITTLE more interesting.
It was nice to see him perform, but I’m definitely looking forward to the two-er all that much more so I can see him actually having FUN.
Underwhelmed as well. This is really not his type of gig. Though at the end his shout out to the audience was pure Blake and showed once again out of this year’s crop of Idol finalists, Blake really likes and needs to connect with the live audience. IAnyway, this Macy’s thing may have just as well have been Jordin solo. In years past, the AI winner usually performs solo. Makes me wonder why this year Blake and Melinda were booked to be by her side?

I was underwhelmed as well. This was clearly not the route for Blake, but I kind of suspected that at the beginning. He is more jazzy than patriotic ballady. Anyway, I was really shocked that Melinda and Jordin were so boring. They can belt it out in a heart beat. The two hit all the right notes, but I just didn’t care. Their voices didn’t say “I am an amazing singer” The voices just said “I can sing.” Oh well.
I can’t wait to see vids of the tour. I will be waiting patiently. Hopefully some videos will be up this weekend.

Karen, you hit the nail on the head. Jordin and especially Melinda are boring. Jordin has a bubbly personality and with the right material and more experience, she could blossom as a performer. But while Melinda is technically a very good singer, that’s all she is. There’s a reason why despite her talent, she always remained a background singer–she doesn’t have that spark (no pun intended, should I say “that blake”) that says “look at me, I’m a star, I’m in command”. Anyway they sounded fine, it was a meh performance, they were there to do a job and they did it. At least Blake and Melinda weren’t singing along to This is My Now.
Because maybe they thought Jordin alone might not be enough of a draw??

Anyway, I haven’t watched this yet. I have it recorded, but I didn’t get home til about 11:30 last night, and I went straight to sleep. I’ll watch it when I get home from work today. Thanks for posting the video MJ!

I just read that article, very nice. Funny about the fashion part,
“wearing a t-shirt over a button up.” I can’t say I ever really seen guys wear shirts like that, now I go out and that look is everywhere.
I agree with him - completely ridiculous that they’d never heard of 311. At least Simon (if I remember correctly) was familiar with Keane.

Oops, I forget to leave my comment on the Fourth of July special. I liked it. I thought they all sounded very nice together. Though I do wonder also why it just wasn’t Jordin?
I liked it and thought maybe it was designed that way because of Blake. He can’t compete in the big voice category but his voice fit in perfectly in this more subdued version. I didn’t like that they kept putting Melinda before Blake in the announcements and they seemed to show her more often. Blake looked good, didn’t he?
I found it very frusterating. I just watched the clip this morning and I thought, “So what?” I just don’t have the patience to watch or listen to Melinda and Jordin. They seem like lovely people and they sang beautifully but the whole thing left me with a yawn and a shrug. Beyond that, I just don’t enjoy Blake in that type of performance. I like gritty Blake doing smooth, melodic, sexy tunes. I want the club boy back talking dirty to the camera with his eyes. I don’t want staring-at-the-sky-Blake singing big songs. Give me some SLTW. That’s what I want.
Maybe it wasn’t Blake’s thing.. but he looked so cute!

I like Blake both ways. It’s good to show versatility. *shrug* An artist who does one style one way all the time gets boring.
If Blake is going to be a big star, like his fans want him to be, he’s gonna have to do stuff like this. That’s just the way it goes. Comes with the territory. Sure, he wouldn’t have to sing “boring” stuff like this if he was still in the club scene. But if was still in the club scene, we wouldn’t know about him, would we?

Man, I’m surprised with a lot of the comments on here. I thought the fourth of July performance was great. One of the real weaknesses of this season was the group performances. This was 10 times better than all of them–they were well-rehearsed, in tune, and the arrangement was unambitious but definitely solid. I agree that Blake wasn’t given much of a chance to shine, but, come on, it’s America the Beautiful, which obviously lends itself to the soaring vocals of Jordin and Melinda much more than to Blake’s vocal entendres.
I wasn’t trying to be critical. Just keeping it real.
Oh I know, Katy. Me too. I’m just saying that he’s gonna have to do stuff like this if he’s gonna be in the public eye and limelight and all that jazz. It won’t always be his cup o’ tea, but… you do what you have to do sometimes. It’s just smart business moves.
This is a completely different subject, but I read this on TWOP, re: Blake’s signing. Remember a while back, Fred Bronson of Billboard wrote in his column that both Blake and Jordin would be signed to Sony/BMG. Someone *waves* e-mailed him to find out if he had any other info since we’ve heard nothing, and he didn’t know either. But Blake was (is?) supposed to be signed by Clive at some point. Fred is going to do some checking to see if he can find out anything - he’s had several e-mails about this, apparently.

Blake will be himself, but he has to know he has to compromise a bit and have some mainstream radio hits if he wants to become a big star, which he is totally meant to be. He just has that IT factor.
I would really die if he ends up in the club scene all over again, he is too talented to fade away after the idol tour ends.
I am crossing fingers and I hope he signs with a major record label for his own sake. Now is his only chance to make it. Just saying Blake.
