Blake Lewis has been a mere blip on the pop culture radar for only a few months, yet he’s already scored his own news feature on MTV! How awesome is that? In this piece, MTV dubs Blake The Accidental Idol and visits his hometown to chat with his biggest supporters - his friends and family. They also include some footage of Blake performing his original song “She Loves The Way.”
Sorry Blaker Mom, but I don’t think Blake’s fans are ready to send him home yet!
If you tuned in to Part 2 of Idol Gives Back last night, you probably heard Ryan Seacrest mention some of the special items available for purchase on iTunes to help raise money for the cause. In addition to those items, you can also find celebrity playlists created by each member of the Top 6! Check out Blake’s eclectic selections here. I kind of love him for including a Fiona Apple tune.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer put out a nice (if somewhat error filled) Blake-focused wrapup of Idol Gives Back week. After reading this quote from Blaker Girl spokeswoman Kristi Redman, I’d imagine (hee) Blake was frustrated with the critique he got from judge Randy Jackson this week.
“He was really excited [about singing ‘Imagine’]. He said it’s a John Lennon song and he wanted to pay homage to it without changing it. ‘If I had done something to it, I would have been ridiculed for years.’ It’s so beautiful and perfect as it is, why mess with it.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m siding with Blake on this one. And by the way, did you buy his studio recording of “Imagine” from americanidol.com yet? You should, because it’s super pretty.

Star, I love that MTV coverage. Thanks for getting that up for us.
And yes, I’m with Blake on his approach to “Imagine.” It is super pretty (Gwen voice, lol).
Gwen is love!!
Yes! Totally agree with Blake. No way he should’ve changed that. And I could tell he was disappointed. Those judges are so frustrating.
And I completely agree about Blake’s Imagine mp3. It’s beautiful. His voice is so pretty.
Does anyone know a source for cheap mp3 memory? Our boy seems to have filled mine up!
Hey! Thanks for putting the MTV video up! Blake already making headlines. Love that!
Our boy is going to be a STAR I just know it.
But in the meantime we just have to keep voting our butts off.
I am glad they showed a clip of his original work, She Loves The Way is such a cool tune, Love it! His voice is so awesome!
And yes the mp3 of IMAGINE is really really pretty. Blake’s voice is great for recording, I am telling ya he is going to be selling tons of CD’s!
BLAKE’S voice is SUPER PRETTY. Gwen is 100% right.
Awwww. Blake felt disspointed with Randy’s comment. I am hating Randy by the minute, he is a total sellout..
Heck even Simon said something nice and very true.Blake’s take on imagine was heartfelt and sincere and that goes a long way/. I really do believe Simon likes Blake. EVen when he criticize him he always try to do it in a very subtle way. And when he has great things to say he always says something like: BEst performance of the night, the strongest guy in the competition… etc.
Randy just goes with TPTB intructions. This week pimp him, next week depimp. It’s getting on my nerves.
Don’t worry Blake we have your back. You are not going anywhere.
Blaker mom, you are going to have to wait a bit more. Sorry.
Hey, Can anyone put the MTV coverage on gofish.com. I doubt the youtube footage will last long. MTV is owned by Viacom which has issues with Google which owns youtube. So google removes all viacom owned video (comedy central, MTV, VH1, etc). Meaning if we post this youtube footage everywhere, it might stop working in two days and we will have to post all over again.
Thanks,
Karen
Hey Karen! I don’t have a GoFish account, but I do have a YouTube account, so I uploaded it to that. I tried to be discreet with the tags so maybe it wouldn’t be found.
If anyone wants to download the segment to keep, it’s up on Blake Lewis Media.
I’ll check out GoFish later! :)
Oh don’t stress about it. I just know that Viacom videos are not being removed from gofish right now. I only have a youtube account myself.
Hopefully they won’t find it for a while.
I do understand being frustrated with Randy’s comments about Blake. But I think we are all forgetting that Randy has liked Blake since the beginning. Out of ALL of the judges, HE gave Blake the best reviews at his audition, and he’s given him a LOT of “props” and positive reviews for his other performances. He’s allowed to have opinions about music and not like a performance or two. Geez Louise.
Simon sees $$$ when he looks at Blake. He “gets the appeal” (heh) and knows Blake’s popularity, he’s not stupid.
Oh I know Sarah…I guess I just don’t know what Randy expected Blake to do with the song. And it annoys me that when Blake rearranged “Keep Me Hangin’ On” they didn’t like it and told him he didn’t need to mess with a classic. I just hate it when they contradict themselves; it’s one of my biggest pet peeves with this show.
Me too. That is what irritated me. Not that he criticized him, but that he criticized him for not “adding” anything to it. Because really what did he expect him to add that wouldn’t have sounded crazy?
I liked Blake’s performance, so don’t misunderstand what I’m about to say.
I understand that he didn’t want to mess with the song much. Totally cool, and ITA with that outlook. But I think he could have done something with the dynamic of the performance without changing the arrangement or melody of the song. I am not 100% sure which judge said it (I actually think it was Simon), but it didn’t seem like the song went anywhere… there wasn’t a defined beginning, middle, and end. Even if you don’t change the way the song is written or arranged, you can still change the dynamic of your delivery of it, and that can make a HUGE difference.
Like I said, I enjoyed the performance because the vocal was absolutely gorgeous, and yes, it was heartfelt and sincere. But, to me, it was kind of missing that “oomph” in it’s delivery that, coupled with the vocal and emotion, really could have taken it to soaring heights, and not just “great”.
To me, there is really an art behind being able to sing ballads.
I thought Simon had a point when he said it didn’t go anywhere. I didn’t like Randy’s critique because he said it was boring. Thanks Randy. Way to give some constructive criticism.
Randy doesn’t like it when they sing ballads unless they are belty. He told Ace he was boring on country night last year and I thought that was one of Ace’s best performances.
You’re right Sarah, it was Simon that said that. I swear I read something in the spoilers about Randy saying something similar. Maybe they edited his comment out?
I’ll have to go back and reread the spoilers and watch the critique again.
