I wouldn’t worry about the reaction to SLTW. We already know it’s not his first single and may not be a single. The first single will be way more important than fan vids of SLTW from the AI tour. Most peeps will never see those.

And who knows if it will or will not be in the album? There are 25-30 potential songs. I trust Blake and his team will make smart choices.

Hey, just to make things claer. I like the song, and I am all for it to be on the album. Of course not all the songs have to be singles, heck even Chris Daughtry has more than two that are too hard rock for radio.

I was just talking about single potential, people. Two different things..
In any case, I am super excited about his album, and I know his first single will be perfect for radio.
Hey Blake and Clive seem to be very excited about it, too.

And the point Sarah and others are trying to make is SLTW probably won’t even be a single or even be on the album for that matter so worrying about what people think of a concert performance of it makes no sense. I don’t mind SLTW, but I didn’t care for the way he performed it the other night. It was too much IMO. The song isn’t radio friendly at all and I’ll make safe bet he’s had discussion with the label about it since he seems to love it. Arista brought in some producers that are responsible for a lot of radio hits. If it were up to Blake and he were doing things on his own terms things would be different, but the fact is he has a team of people that are going to push for the most marketability and commercial potential.

    I agree.
I also think Blake is a pretty smart boy and he knows this.

    Hahaha.. from Sunday’s afterparty.

Some girl goes “I can’t believe you did that [SLTW] in front of all of the little kids out there!” And he goes…. “I should have said beforehand, ‘Five year old girls…this song is about sex.”

To me I love this song, but I had to listen to it more then once to understand it. I really dont think this song is for radio but I dont see why he cannont play it at clubs and concerts. Its a great showcase of what he can do with his loop pedals and kaos pad or put it on his cd jazzed up (on the cd). As for young kids Blake said it himself if ya dont tell them what its about they wont know and if they do know then there parents better start talking to them.

    That’s hysterical.

Lisa, I would be willing to put some money down on that bet also because Blake had always said he wanted it to be the first single but as the tour progressed, he was already telling fans it would not be the first single and that was because he had already been signed by Clive and like you said this team that Arista brought in responsible for creating real hitmakers and I’ll make a safe bet that they don’t see the song being a runaway hit, but like I said earlier, I’m not going to worry about the opinions of others and trying to argue with them. It’s a waste of time and energy.

I agree with you pam. It really doesnt matter if they like the song or not. What I didnt say in my statement above is Blake is smart and I dont remember where I read this but this song I think he said was never meant for a single but is a improv song so even on a cd I really not sure he wants it there. If he did then he will have to play it very close the way the cd has it and could not improv it much if that makes sense. I personally hope he leaves it off we can always go you tube it or go to is concerts or club event and hear it.

Improv lies deep in the depths of Blake’s heart. He lives for the stage! That said, I believe that SLTW is Blake’s token improv song. It is the one song that true Blake fans will want to hear live at every concert for the rest of his career. While SLTW may not make the most wonderful studio-recorded track on his CD, I’m still waiting on the edge of my seat to hear what Blake put together with BT in the studio version! I, honestly, don’t care if people love or hate certain tracks on the CD - as long as they give him a listen with an open mind. Blake is never going to get trapped into doing carbon copies of an album track because of his improv background. Every performance will be a different one, even if the lyrics are the same. I definitely think that SLTW will be on the CD in some way, though. Bonus track, perhaps…but I really hope that it is one of the ‘regular’ tracks because it really is a technical definition of what makes Bshorty the artist that he is.

Oh, and I absolutely loved that.

Well said Laura. SLTW is simply an expression of one type of music that Blake likes to do. Many of his fans will appreciate it, and others will not, that’s the nature of the music business…the beauty of the whole story is that Blake is such an eclectic artist that he’ll never be caught doing only one style of music. Furthermore, I honestly believe that he can create something for everybody.

For me, letting one song - SLTW - define his sound is as ignorant as thinking that the extent of Blake’s talent is beatboxing because that’s what he *sometimes* did on American Idol.

I agree that people should approach Blake’s music with an open mind. I’ll be the first to admit that SLTW had to grow on me, because I too was used to hearing Blake singing Somewhere Only We Know, for example…but once I made myself just take the music for what it is, I found it much more enjoyable. When you try to pigeonhole someone into a single format, you usually wind up disappointed. I hope that Blake doesn’t fall victim to this type of pressure to be something he’s not…because once he does that, then the music is no longer fun…and I think that’s the best part of listening to Blake, he’s having fun - knowing that he put his whole soul into his work makes him so much more engaging.
…and now I’m rambling. My advice, just wait and see what happens…”ride the wave”, (as Blake in so many words has said he’s done)…come what may.

At the end of the day, I just think as Simon would say:
“It’s just a matter of taste.” Everybody enjoys different sides of Blake. And that is cool.

I for one, prefer the one who sings songs like “Somewhere Only We Know”, “Virtual Insanity”, “She Will Be Loved”, “Time of the Season” “Love Song”, “This Love”, etc. His natural voice is just so awesome.
From his originals I enjoy mostly all of them, but I will admit my least favorite is SLTW. (Shoot me). But hey that’s the only one, I really love all the rest. My favorites are “Emotional Waterfalls” and “Dumpty Humpty”.

I appreciate all his sides, though. I mean I just hope he includes both on his CD, which I think he will.

OMG BLAKE why didn’t you sing this in STL. Was the crowd dead here? I would have been going nuts!!! Flip! :clap_tb:
