OMG! I love this. It really shows more of his creativity and what he is capable of. And his voice was in better form than it was on the AI performance.

For any future performances on TV, I suggest he go solo. Better focus. He is always changing and trying new stuff which is great. I did like the ending, but during the song the drum machine was too loud and overpowered his voice. He needs to hit those notes strong to leave a lasting impression with his voice in order to sell the song. JMO. Like the clothing. I wish he would avoid the hats, though. They cover him up too much, like he is trying to hide, and they make him look like he is borrowing JT’s style which of course he does not need to do. Let cute hair show!

Thanks for the video. I already watched it a few times. This performance was really a treat. I love how he modulates the voice and changes the middle and end of the song. I wonder if he will dare to put another version, piano or maybe guitar and looping.
Blake dresses well, but that is not the most important thing for me when I watch him perform. He can just wear a t-shirt and I will be fine with that.

wow! that was actually awosme! i love how he changed the pacing when he says “im letting you go” nice and crisply instead of “im letting you…..goooo” i need an mp3 pronto.::. i actually think he should have done a more piano-ey version for his album, i love this version of the song!

I agree, at least when he’s doing HMW. His voice stands out more, whereas with the full band he stands more of a chance of getting drowned out. Plus, self-accompaniment is always very impressive to me. I played the clarinet for 6 years, and by the end of it, I still couldn’t walk and play at the same time.

Okay… it’s not like there was any doubt, but IMO it’s official, Blake Lewis is the most talented AI contestant ever!
Granted, I’ve never really watched AI - season six was the only, and still is the only season that I’ve religiously followed (because of Mr. Blake, of course!) I just can’t get over how awesome he is. Sure, I have liked other contestants (Kelly is cool, Carrie has some good songs, Jordin has a nice voice), but it’s Blake I could listen to all day long. :D

I love Blake all the time. He could truly sing the phone book and I would love it.
Wow, the video was over the top. Blake looked and sounded fantastic. I too just cannot connect with this season’s AI. It leaves me flat. I have not voted once this year. Last year I could not wait for each Tues/Wed night. Blake’s performances were the first reason to tune in but the group was so vocally talented as a whole. It was exciting. No one excites me this year. It seems like a boring high school talent show.
Ok, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t even cross the street for the phone book. LOL. I could google at him from the other side I guess and not have to hear.
I just LOVE this version of HMW. I want more of this scaled back acoustic or whatever you call it, MORE! I think this shows just how incredibly talented the guy is–and my Spouse? He loved it too. He was actually impressed for the first time in awhile, so it’s not just me and my fangirl hormones. (erm, US! heh! I agree with the above sentiments!)
There’s something about his voice when he does this stuff alone…he gets that silky, velvety quality that I go gahhh over. Just saying.

I’m not sure if Season 6 is necessarily the MOST talented season overall, although I really thought Nigel, Simon and the rest were complete assholes for bashing last year’s contestants in the media!!! However, I agree with Blake that it would have been interesting to see what Season 6 could have done with musical instruments since almost all those guys in the Top 12 played at least one instrument or more than one in some cases! And possibly a few of the girls had a musical background too for all I know.
No one else on Idol has shown the innovation and creativity that Blake did. I love David Cook but I think he’s only re-arranged one song on his own so far. What on earth will he do with a MARIAH song? I’m looking forward to that ;).

PJ–totally agreed, and I think S6 was the most talented season, too.
Nic, I agree. Looking back, what Blake did on the show with all his original arrangements was pretty amazing. How he even found time to do it speaks volumes on his talent in that area.
That said, I’m really enjoying this season, too. Sad to see MJ gone, but happy Jason and Cookie are still there.

do you get the impression that TPTB are bashing Jason and Cookie to get Archuleta the win? :/ I’ve noticed those two get called “lazy-not taking it seriously” or “smug-pompous” or whatever, yet Archuleta gets ass kissed almost every single week. Archie’s vocals were NOT spot on last time, his low notes SUCKED and there were other shaky moments in his performance yet the judges acted like he could do no wrong.
I wouldn’t be shocked if we ended up with an Arch-Brooke final two, and I’m afraid I’d turn my TV set OFF if that scenario ever comes true! LOL
I think David A has had some serious problems with his health/voice the past three weeks. When he started the season, it was strong and all ranges were there. Two weeks ago his mid and low range were “dead”. Last week his low range was flat. I think he is slowing recovering, but there was definitely something that hurt his voice about three weeks ago. He still sings very well, but there is a deadness in those ranges the last three performances.
That was really realy awesome! Love it!
