Blake is SAFE! And Videos!

So is everyone else! See for yourself!

Here are the groups songs from last night:

“Time to Care” - Quincy Jones”

“American Prayer” - Bono and Dave Stewart:

And finally, here is Blake’s version of “Imagine” (without judges’ comments):

Okay I’m posting this up here, though it’s a reply to stuff from last night’s thread. It will probably piss some of you off, but here is my flat out honest opinion.

There is no need to work ourselves all up in a tizzy and get all nervous and pissed and upset and whatever. It doesn’t matter where Blake falls in the order, if he’s meant to get a deal, he’ll get a deal.

Truthfully, the main reason I’m still voting for him right now (besides the fact that I love him to death and want him to be happy) is just to see him on my tv screen for a few more weeks. I know Clive has the option on all contestants, and he’ll likely pick up the option on Blake because of his marketability and popularity. But while you’re not *guaranteed* a contract unless you are winner or runnerup, those contracts are likely MUCH more restrictive. I’d almost rather him NOT win or come in second because of that.

What happened to “Blake’s getting all the screams and shrieks, he HAS to be the most popular contestant” from two weeks ago? WHY does everyone suddenly feel like the sky is falling? I can’t STAND that mentality. Sorry, but I just can’t.

The bottom line is this - fanbases can only do so much. Blake has to bring it EVERY performance and bring in the swing votes and casual voters. If he can’t do that, IT IS NOT OUR FAULT. Nor is it the show’s fault. If Blake wants to win, he needs to do what it takes on HIS end, too. He’s a smart guy, he knows what to do. He just needs to deliver the goods.

Last comment - I think we all put waaaaaaaaay too much stock in the “power” of internet voting fanbases. HOW many people are in each fanbase on the internet? Maybe 100? This part of the competition is where swing votes matter the most. Whose shoulders does that lie on? The contestants. THEY have to motivate people to vote. THEY DO. It’s not up to the fans to motivate people to vote.

That said, if the contestants who were at the bottom of the barrel this week don’t have convincing performances next week (and those two particular contestants haven’t been particularly good lately PERIOD), they’re not gonna get enough votes, no matter how much the 100 people in their internet fanbases vote.

I agree with some of what you said, Sarah, but I just wanted to say people respond to the show differently. It works for some people to be a nervous wreck and it is what it is. Ideally, we shouldn’t worry but it’s human nature. And now I’m gonna leave it alone.

Blake really must bring it next week!!! I like all of his performances but I’ve been feeling a little let down lately. Next week is a theme that should work quite well to being inventive and creative. So he should BLAKE it up, like he did with TOTS!

    Sarah:
Thanks for your post. I understand what you are saying.

And maybe I am one of those who is a little paranoid about the possibility of Blake getting voted off next week.
I am with you that maybe is better for him not to win the whole show BUT I do think it would be great for him to come in second and get a BIG record deal with Clive. I think he wants it too. Second would be great for him IMO.
At this point in time, we all know for sure Jordin is going to win.

I also think he deserves a spot at least on the Top 4 and that is why I am planning to vote again next week the whole four hours . I don’t want to see him go as #6. That would break my heart literally.

But that’s just me, at the end of the day you are right, people are going to vote as long as they want.

I still say let’s save the beatboxer this crucial week.

By the way Blake this week for me did not dissappoint at all, I really thought his version of IMAGINE was beautiful.
The AI downlaod sounds awesome as usual. His voice is so smooth and pretty.

  4. 4 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 10:35 am

Blake hasn’t disappointed me in any of his performances. Other than Melinda, he’s the most consistent. I think it’s perfectly fine to be frustrated with how the show handled this week, though. It’s good to air the frustrations and move on.

I’m now ready for Blake to rock with a snazzy, Blakized performance!

Why are we voting for four hours this week? Did Ryan say that? I’m confused.

    Star said:

And in my head it always sounds like it did when Gwen Stefani said it when Blake sang to her at the piano. Ha!

    Me too! That’s pretty!!!!!!

  5. 5 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 10:38 am

Oh, and as for hiring voters, I’m on it. I’ve bought three go phones for my nephews and am paying them $5 an hour to power text for Blake. Child labor laws be damned!!! :tongue2_tb:

    J/K

ETA: I’m talking to myself now. I keep getting google alerts that say Blake Lewis and Jordin were the last two standing last night. I hate sloppy reporting. But maybe casual voters who like Blake will get energized. Heh.

  6. 6 star Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:04 am

I get what you’re saying Sarah. Have you guys ever read Blake’s thread on TWOP? I do, but I’ve really got to make myself quit. Several of the posters there have such defeatist attitudes, and it’s like EVERYTHING that happens on the show is conspiracy against Blake. It’s really bad. I’m of the opinion that a lot of this TPTB favoring Chris instead of Blake stuff is all in people’s heads, but the more I read over there, the more I start to think it’s not just in their heads.

Also, I know that TPTB can and will sign whoever they want. I’m with you in that I’m voting for Blake because I want him on my TV for a few more weeks. I want him to get to final four so he can sing two songs, and I want him to get to final three because I’m curious about what songs the judges and Clive would pick for him to sing. If he makes it to the finale, I’d consider that gravy.

It seems like there’s a chance next week’s theme could be Bon Jovi songs only. Yuck, I hope that’s wrong. I’m imagining nothing but bad karaoke.

  7. 7 LB2 Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:10 am

I want him to get to final four so he can sing two songs, and I want him to get to final three because I’m curious about what songs the judges and Clive would pick for him to sing.

Me too star! I really want to see what Clive would pick - it gives an indication on what direction he thinks Blake’s album should take. As for the judges, I bet Paula picks him though I hope it will be Simon because Simon is really good at picking the perfect song (see: Kat McPhee).

I wish there were a way for people to see “She Loves the Way” or any of the contestants’ original work. That’d be awesome.

  8. 8 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:28 am

I just read Sligh’s blog. This is what he has to say about Blake.

Blake - Blake and I met through Rudy, who I was very close to. Blake and I met the first night of Hollywood, and Rudy, Blake and I were virtually inseperable the rest of the week. When we got to the top 24, Jared Cotter and I were originally roommates, but he couldn’t take my snoring, so he moved out and switched with Blake. It was great being roommates with Blake - he really was the coolest roommate in the world. The thing about Blake is that the way you see him on tv is exactly how he is in real life…he is just smooth. He rarely gets mad, rarely raises his voice…he’s just smooth. What people don’t realize with him is that he was raised with a great work ethic and has had to work hard for everything that has ever happened to him. American Idol isn’t just an overnight success for him - he’s worked his tail off to get where he’s at. I’d love to write with him in the future, but let’s be honest, his style is a little different than mine - it’ll be cool to see what we could come up with for him. Btw, he is a good songwriter, and a good guitar player…he really is a great musician. I can’t wait to hear what his record sounds like.

This is the only AI board that I consistently read (others have too much “noise”) so I can’t comment too much on the other stuff, but you made some good points, Sarah. :)

Now… doesn’t this make you want to go fill up your car?

I need gas. Too bad there’s not someone like Blake to help me pump it. Those shoes are rad.

Jenlar, as always, thanks for the screen caps!!!

  12. 12 LB2 Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:53 am

Oh man thinking about Clive’s choice - if Blake makes it, I hope Clive picks some Maroon 5 (if it can get cleared). I can hear him on Harder to Breathe.

    Thanks for the pictures, jenlar!

  13. 13 jenlar Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:56 am

pj- As always, you are quite welcome! That whole video just screams animated avatar, doesn’t it? :D There are a few more up there, but I posted too many in another message and it needs approval. You can just change the file names in the links and see them now, if you want: vlcsnap-51319.jpg , vlcsnap-51337.jpg , vlcsnap-52290.jpg , vlcsnap-56758.jpg , vlcsnap-58603.jpg (all with the same url in front)

Blake’s style *always* makes me wanna go shopping, or get creative. If I can find a knitting pattern for this hat http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/jenlar/forums/blakelewis003.jpg then I’ll be happy!

  14. 14 Sarah Apr 26th, 2007 at 11:59 am

LB, I do understand what you’re saying. I’m just trying to point out that it is NOT our responsibility as a fanbase to motivate people to vote.

Personally? My thing is that I have enough stress in life and work as it is, why add to it with something like a reality tv show? I mean, I understand people are motivated by stress. I guess that’s just not me especially since IMO, Blake has more than shown so far that he is more than worthy of a lucrative record deal. Besides, as evidenced last year, TPTB will sign whoever they want, no matter where they place.

About votes - I have no doubt that Blake was sitting pretty in either the 2nd or 3rd spot on the voting order this week. DI might have had him in 4th on busy signals alone, but 2nd-4th was pretty close percentage wise, and I have a feeling that Blake gets a lot of text votes (more than Melinda and Phil at least). I know I plan on sending 75% of my votes next week through texting. Screw DI.

Now, that said - let’s play a little math game from the stats I posted yesterday just from DI, even if that is just speculation. Let’s say Jordin was WAY out in the lead, and say she got 16 million votes on Tuesday. Then there was a BIG dropoff to Blake, Melinda, and Phil who were all pretty close, so let’s be generous and say that they each got 12 million votes. Then there was a pretty big dropoff to Lakisha, so let’s say she got 10 million, and then another big dropoff to Chris, so let’s say he got 8 million. That equals 70 million.

Voting is naturally going to drop next week, because I think a lot of people voted this week due to the money going to charity. So, let’s say they get 55 million votes this week, with trends running the same - a real frontrunner in votes, and two who pretty much lag behind everyone else.

Now, let’s say that BY CHANCE (not likely), Chris has the best performance next week and gets 12 million votes. That puts him at a total of 20 million. Let’s say that Phil and Kiki have the worst and get about 8 million each. That puts them at 20 and 18 million respectively. And let’s say that Jordin, Blake, and Melinda all have good-to-great but not THE best performances, and each get 11 million votes. That puts Blake and Melinda at 23 mil each, and Jordin at 27 mil.

Do you see how this works? Even if Chris has THE best performance (like I said, not likely) and gets the most votes (again, not likely), he’s still sitting really low on the totem poll, as is Lakisha - because regardless of DI speculation, etc etc, it’s obvious those two were the bottom 2 this week. And they would literally have to receive as many votes as the other four put together next week to be safe from elimination.

I’m not saying don’t vote. I’m just saying that it’s not really necessary to freak out about it. But, if you thrive on worrying, by all means… do it! :D

  15. 15 Sarah Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:05 pm

And, I don’t know for sure that Jordin is going to win. I know for sure that TPTB are trying to tell us to vote so that she will win. But many people at this point last year thought for sure Daughtry was going to win and looky at how that turned out.

And I’d rather Blake not be tied down to Clive, but that’s just me. There are other labels out there who are likely interested and would probably be better for him in the long run. 2nd place usually gets shafted on this show while the focus is on the winner. Katharine got a lot of label support for her album, though, so you never know, I guess.

  16. 16 Sarah Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

Several of the posters there have such defeatist attitudes, and it’s like EVERYTHING that happens on the show is conspiracy against Blake.

Exactly! We are not chicken little here folks! LOL Whatever happened to the power of POSITIVE thinking? Gahhhhhh.

I don’t think the show handled anything badly at all. But I can understand that people do think that. To me, you just don’t kick someone off on Inspirational Week. I had that feeling a few days ago - I really felt sorry for whoever was going to be eliminated. Because really, what kind of message would that send? It’s like saying “go save the world, make a difference, help make dreams come true. But oh, not you, (fill in the blank). Sorry, you’re leaving, good luck making your own dream come true now. But go save the world, make a difference, and help make dreams come true! Okthxbye.”

  17. 17 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Jenlar, I just approved your other post. Not sure why it ended up in moderation. I know how to knit, but only the basic scarf. Most guys won’t wear stuff you knit them, but I bet Blake would ;-).

Sarah, interesting take on the math.

We can speculate all we want about if any of them will be offered contracts, but we don’t know for sure. It can happen, but the buzz around this season is not the same as it was last year. Just because some of last year’s finalists have released albums sans the Clive machine, doesn’t mean it will happen to this year’s crop. I don’t know what’s best for Blake, but I trust he does and I hope he gets what he wants.

In the meantime, I’m going to vote to keep him on my tee vee. :)

  18. 18 LB2 Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:17 pm

I’m not opposed to them not sending anybody home but they should have been upfront about it. I think that was what annoyed me the most (but I’m pretty much over it). I would have voted anyway and they would have made the 50 million mark needed to donate the $5 million. I say we put it all behind us, personally.

I’m WAY EXCITED about the next week. Is anybody else? Any song choices? I read that it’s rock in general and not just Bon Jovi music. Someone on TWoP mentioned the Killers - I wouldn’t mind that one bit!

  19. 19 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Sarah, you and I are going to have to disagree on that. I really think they could have made last night’s telethon into its own show and left the elimination show alone. The two who get eliminated next week are going to get the shaft in terms of post-boot interviews and press. That is important to their careers.

  20. 20 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

LB2, I’m relieved to hear it’s rock in general. Where did you read it? Is it official?

  21. 21 LB2 Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:30 pm

I’m not sure where I read it so it’s definitely not official. But I think someone posted a press release somewhere saying it was rock week with Bon Jovi (the whole band, I think, and not just Jon) mentoring. If it’s just Bon Jovi, we’ll reassess. But for now, let’s assume it’s rock.

What do you think he should sing?

  22. 22 Sarah Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

How about in the semis when the FOUR who get eliminated weekly barely get anything in the way of interviews and press? Is that not important to their careers?

  23. 23 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:49 pm

I feel that if you earn a place in the top 12 you should get the same consideration as the others in the top 12. I know the third place constestant often get’s their press week cut short to rehearse for the finale. Whatever. I think they handled it badly, but I’m willing to let it go.

ETA: I’ll let it go after one more comment. As a viewer, I felt manipulated into watching last night’s show over a promise of a result. Like LB said, tell us upfront.

  24. 24 pj Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

LB2, the Killers might be good! I’ll have to think about it. I haven’t given it much thought yet, to be honest.

  25. 25 maracaibo Apr 26th, 2007 at 12:51 pm

I hope is rock in general so he could do The Killers.
What would be awesome! But who knows if they clear their songs! I doubt it.

Also, I thought it was classic rock theme. I dunno. AS long as Blake does an edgy blakized performance I think he will be fine. I don’t really think he would do a ballad for three weeks in a row.

I am also totally excited to see what Clive picks for him for Top 3 night. Maroon 5 really would be the bomb. I’ve always thought Blake’s voice reminds me of Adam Levine. So smooth. Is Marron 5 signed with Clive? I think so right?

Anyways I do plan to vote for four hours next week. Anything that can help him.

  26. 26 star Apr 26th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Yup, I do believe Maroon 5 belong to Clive. Btw, I noticed their new song was already at #1 on iTunes last night.

  27. 27 Sarah Apr 26th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

PJ, I agree with you to an extent. I just don’t feel manipulated or anything. For me, it’s not that big of a deal.

That’s part of the reason why I didn’t really watch it live. If I was bored by other things, I just fastforwarded through them.

  28. 28 maracaibo Apr 26th, 2007 at 2:59 pm

    star;

The new Maroon 5 song is the bomb! I can’t wait to buy it on I-Tunes tonight.
I bet Blake would do great witha song like that! ireally really hope Blake makes it to Top 3 night.

  29. 29 lady_iriska Apr 26th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

He looked fiiiiiiiiine in all white!!

And I thought he sounded great all night long!

His moment in pimpmercial was so hot as well!
