Blake Behind the Scenes

People: What You Didn’t See
Beat It: Blake Lewis, a fan favorite, had an off night and the judges – especially Simon and Randy Jackson – were quick to scold the very thing they once praised: Randy told Blake, an average vocalist with outstanding beat box skills, that a little beat boxing goes a long way. During the show’s final video recap, Blake looked dejected and could barely eke out a smile for fans in the audience.

Lost and Found: In past seasons, Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof says he had to stay mum about his American Idol obsession because the Fox juggernaut aired in the same time slot as his ABC drama. “This is the first year I’m out of the closet as an Idol fan,” he tells PEOPLE. “Nobody can give me crap for cheering on Blake.”

Blake’s most ironically endearing moment of the season also went unaired in the bustle –- after receiving his thumbs down from Simon, Blake grabbed his tie and mimed hanging himself in mockery of his slaughter.

More later…He will be safe everybody. He has to be.

Tara, I haven’t read Slezak’s article, but I do know Slezak is very Anti-Blake. His analysis this season has been very odd. He actually argued that Blake shouldn’t make the top 2 because he “too different” and therefore could not be compared to one of the divas. huh?

Anyway, I tend to believe Kristi before anyone else. She speaks for Blake and she says he’s in it to win it. That’s all I need to hear.

I know Erinn. Slezak doesn’t likes Blake much. Some weeks he does a bit but his favorite is Melinda. So whatever.
I don’t think Blake put much effort in Bee Gees week but I don’t think he purposely wants to end the show in a low note.

I believe Kristi too? Why would she lie to us? Blake is so lucky to have friends like her.

IIRC, Slezak has actually been a BIG Blake supporter. He’s been critical of him at times yes, but he really likes him from all impressions I’ve gotten. I’ll have to copy/paste all of his comments about Blake later. No time for that while I’m at work.

ETA: To start, what Slezak said last week alone: But if I had to put money down at this very moment on which singer is most likely to stick around, I’d place my wager on Blake Lewis, whose electrifying retooling of ”You Give Love a Bad Name” has likely surpassed Mindy Doo’s ”My Funny Valentine” as the season’s watercooler performance. Bon Jovi was right that ”16 measures of him not singing on a show that’s supposed to highlight singers” was a risky move (though not as risky as sharing Jordin’s black-and-red hair dye), and Blake’s whooshing opening sound effects (which sounded to me like the Diet Coke I crack open every morning around 7 a.m.) were a wee bit indulgent, but the rest of the performance was exhilarating — breathing life into what I’d written off as a tired ’80s anthem. The ”you give love-lllll-love-love-lll-love a bad, bad name” breakdown had me clapping like baby-seal Paula, and while the judges seemed a little tentative in their praise, this was the performance that — whether or not it secured Blake a spot in the final two — pretty much guaranteed him a record deal.

Well, I just watched a video of Slezak saying he wanted Lakisha and Melinda in the top 2 because having Blake there with a Diva would be like apples and oranges. He wants two Diva apples in the finale and will get the orange later off iTunes. LOL.

Now with Kiki gone, we’ll see if he changes his mind.

    Whew… catching up!

It just seems like most viewers want a cookie cutter belter who sings the same idol song year after year.

It’s like computer parts. When one goes bad/needs an upgrade/etc. you just stick in a new one. I tuned out of Top 40 in the mid ’90’s because of all the diva!music. They all sound alike.

I think they put Blake in the bottom 2 because they know Lakisha was going and all her votes would go to Melinda, making it harder for Blake to make it to the final 2…so they put him there to try and get more votes than melinda will be getting this tuesday

Yeah, they never actually said “bottom two” did they. Was Blake getting the pimpage? I think so.

Anyway, I tend to believe Kristi before anyone else. She speaks for Blake and she says he’s in it to win it. That’s all I need to hear.

Absolutely. She has been nothing but forthcoming in this whole thing, an priceless information line between the fans and Blake. Until given reason to believe otherwise, if she says it then I believe it.

Well, I just watched a video of Slezak saying he wanted Lakisha and Melinda in the top 2 because having Blake there with a Diva would be like apples and oranges.

Is it possible that TPTB want to give us the choice of whether or not we actually want another diva? I’d love to see a Jordin/Blake finale.

I’m so glad our boy is safe. Also sad to hear that it seems like he seemed stressed on Tuesday and dejected about the judges comments. He WILL BOUNCE BACK though as all the awesome team plaid girls (and boys maybe?) have said. Seattle is going to be a happening place tomorrow~

Chris Daughtry, that man has good taste!

Sarah, thanks for the correction. I was reading the article and I see where you are coming from. I still think he’s middling on Blake, but definitely not anti. I did get that impression from earlier reviews, but it looks like he has changed his tune. That’s always good.

I think pj has it right. He wants a diva final 2 and will buy Blake’s album when it comes out.
