Post-show report: We got another e-mail from Aunt Marcia. She just wanted us to mention a couple of things…1) Blake DID perform the actual “Putting On The Ritz,” not a song that samples POTR. It was a very Blakized version featuring scatting, etc. 2) The band sounds as if they’ve been playing together for years and put on a great show! 3) There was one song in the mix that they didn’t catch the title of. 4) Thanks to everyone for supporting Blake!
Edit: Update from Marcia - All the signs point to Blake being last. There are three events prior to the music. They are starting inline skating now. The stage is all set up but no sign of Blake. The arena is fairly small probably only using 8 thousand seats but not nearly that many people here. More later.
Edit 2: They were out there setting up about 30 minutes ago… and now he’s watching and getting the crowd pumped up!! As of 4:19 EST, Marcia anticipates Blake’s starting in about 30 minutes… so around 4:45 EST.
Edit 3: Blake’s outfit update! Hair spiked high, Dark hoodie, Bright t shirt, No plaid pants (I think if so very subtle) Also, they just asked for the Blake fans to yell. There are quite a few.
Edit 4: First song is “Break Anotha”! YAY!! From Marcia about “Break Anotha”: Not too much longer than recorded but sounded great. Now a version of putting on the ritz with blake spin.
Edit 5: He’s introducing the band members by beatboxing with each one. I LOVE IT!
Edit 6: He did a really long beatbox with kevin and then looped “She Loves the Way” after he thanked AI fans… There weren’t many words on SLTW. Marcia says - His voice is definitely in great form, he hit the highest note I ever heard him hit and he’s now doing “Whatcha Got to Lose”.
Edit 7: Marcia says that she forgot to tell us that he was wearing a bandanna around his neck. Way to give props to Texans, Blake! :) She also said that he mentioned going on tour but didn’t elaborate much. And he just did “Know My Name”. YAY!!!!
Edit 8: Apparently, “Know My Name” was the last song. Marcia just emailed saying that the set is over. Sounds like a great show! As always, if you were there, please feel free to post a recap here!! Also, if you have video, please please please share!! :)
So, while my Manchester recap has been slow in coming (sorry about that! you know the good stuff already anyway :)), something cool happened there that will be very important to us today as we wait for recaps and info about Blake’s performance at the LG Action Sports gig.
While in Manchester, MJ and I were given the privilege of meeting not only Blake’s dad, but also a couple of his aunts and uncles, including his Aunt Linda and also Aunt Marcia and her husband. They were all so nice and very complimentary to us, which we appreciated so incredibly much. Then, after I met Marcia, she began communicating with us via email, and subsequently informed us that she and her husband will be at the gig today!
So, since Marcia is AWESOME, she has volunteered to send us updates via Blackberry. She was not sure as of our last communication whether or not they would actually be able to see Blake before/after his performance, but she’ll send us updates about the show, etc, regardless of whether they get to see him and talk to him.
SO! Check back here periodically as we keep this post updated with what’s going on in Texas! I’m not sure exactly what time the show starts, but once Marcia finds out an approximate time, she’s going to email us and let us know. So just check here for updates!
And, as always… any of our readers or commenters out there who were also at the show are MORE than welcome to post a recap of your experience! We want to hear all about it!
exactly. if he’s performing them at a show, he knows they’re going to get out there. in fact, i’m sure he chose the ones that he thinks would be the best introduction to the album.

yeah, i think if he performs them to a couple thousand people he’s obviously thought long and hard about which songs he wants to be out there to entice people to buy his album. i’m pretty much banking on the fact that he would WANT more people to hear them so that come Dec. 4th, people will be so curious as to the other 9 or so tracks on the album that they’d buy it. i have to say i totally disagree with your decision, but i guess anything is good at this point. it’s just sad that so many of us either don’t have the money or the time to see Blake’s first show (such a huge thing in his career) and since no other person has come forward with the fact that they have video, it’s kind of a tease. *sigh*
Laura, I think we are all just trying to convince you to show us ALL the videos. We are bad Team Plaiders….lol

I just think it’s a little weird to announce that she had videos of everything and then deny us of seeing them. She should have just said she got video of KMN and BA then if that’s all she was going to show. Her reasoning is really silly to me. He performed them to thousands, he wants the songs heard. It’d do him good, and as someone on TWOP said, with the writer’s strike thing and limited promotion, it’d be good to get it up on youtube. I don’t think I’m milking anything… but whatever.
Like I said before, I’ll take what I can get and I’m grateful that Laura took video at all. I just wish there wasn’t that thought in the back of my mind that says: “Great, there’s video out there of all that and I can’t see it”. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.
Laura - maybe you can PM Blake and ask him if there would be a problem posting the other videos?

I completely understand the decision not to post the videos, although that could be because I was there. Let’s just stop that talk though and enjoy what we have. I just emailed my recap. There are a FEW okay pictures in there. I think my friend took more and I’ll post them when I get them from her. I love all of the great news that’s happened over the weekend!

I think for the new materials, I support them being posted if they are of high quality. That would be promotion. If not, it’s better that we wait for a better version.
Hi everyone! Putting on my mod hat for just a second to post a friendly reminder not to chastise your fellow posters. Also, no need to belabor a point.
That said, I think that posting the vids would be fine. After all, they’re probably not studio quality and I doubt someone would rip the sound in lieu of purchasing the album.
You don’t have to post all the videos for all to see but is it possible for you to email the people who are interested for just our own viewing pleasures?

not trying to belabor anything, but i do think it’s silly not to post the videos. video of a public performance is not a leak. and personally, i think saying “i have video but i’m not going to post it” is tantamount to dancing around saying “i know a secret.”

All I have to say about it - people who took vids are free to psot whatever they want, what they are comfortable with. If Laura doesn’t want to post them all, that’s fine by me. Sure I’d like to see them all… But I’d rather see a few than none at all. So I’ll take what I can get, and with a smile! :) Not coming down on anyone who disagree, or whatever, just saying what I needed to say. And now I’m dropping it! :)

OK…I’m sorry for ruffling feathers about not showing all the vids (I haven’t actually even gotten to see and hear them myself to even tell if the audio is any good, yet!). The reason I’m choosing not to post all of the vids publicly now is because I don’t want my vids to be the source of ripped audio. Once previews of the songs are made available, you can bet that I will post them publicly!
For now, though, sorry gals (and guys!)…I shouldn’t have said that I had the other vids in the first place, and just given you a huge surprise when the audio previews were made available!

yeah, i guess, but thats cuz were huge fans of Blakes, and so were gonna find anything to rationalize the videos..
But she did bring up a valid point. If she does upload them, people are going to ripe them and download them as an MP3, but then again the quality might not be that great. I think (but thats because I’m trying to use my head not my heart), that having the official preview of all the songs would make it more special. but as an addicted fan, of course I want to see those videos, Now, Pronto! but i know that its up to her (Laura) and we shouldn’t get over emotional over it. :D soon enough, we shall have that album in our hands, and soon after we can all go see him in concert.

bottom line = he performed the songs in a public forum. at this point, if they got out, it’d do him good. the fact that the songs would probably be ripped would only present a problem if they were a studio recording and then could pass off as a legitimate “leak”, but clearly that is not going to be the case and anyone who ripped them from the videos would probably just be doing it so they could listen on their ipods (personal enjoyment), not passing it around the media outlets.
ugh, whatever. it is her decision, and i wish she hadn’t said anything to begin with because now i, as well as many, many others are VERY dissapointed.
however, i am looking forward to seeing what IS posted!
Good news and bad news:
The bass had a not-so-great affect on the sound quality of the vids.
However, that means that I’m okay with posting them…
I’m still working on the vids, but in the meantime, I would appreciate not being talked about as if I weren’t reading the comments. If you feel like my previous position was ridiculous, that is your opinion. I didn’t have to take any vids at all, or post what I was going to instead of all of them. It is America, and we all have a right to our own opinions. I’d appreciate it if some of you could at least just respect my opinion and agree to disagree with it, now that things have changed.

Thank you so much for doing this - they’re great, and even just hearing the muffled “Here’s My Hello” and “Whatcha Got 2 Lose” is amazing. The former one is really pop. Not sure I really heard “Gots to Get Her/Putting on the Ritz” yet until I hear a clearer version. “Know My Name” especially sounds terrific live. Great to see B use his loop pedals and that his band members can also sing and be his background singers!

“Here’s My Hello” intrigued me, and it’s probably my favorite so far. You mention that it’s a pop song, which is quite true, but it strikes me as an alt-ballad more than anything. I was so wanting B to have a few alternative or rock-flavored songs on his album and this one and “Break Anotha” have a rock vibe to me. YAY!
(Don’t get me wrong, I like the funk-hip hop style on him but I personally think it would be to his advantage to play up a rock side because that will help him DISTINGUISH himself from TIMBERLAKE and help avoid some of those damn JT comparisons…)

The sad thing is though, I have been so out of the loop this past weekend! I’ve been extremely busy but I did get to chatch up with another blaker and have lunch!!!! Yey. She went down to TN to visit Amanda in the hospital…Sam says Amanda is doing very well and is in extremely good spirits. The funny thing is Sam said Amanda asked her if she stopped in Indianapolis to see me…Awww, she remembers me so cool!
