Hee! I just saw this. So cute when he salutes at the beginning.

He kinda implies that next week is Bon Jovi songs, doesn’t he? Meh.

  2. 2 Tasha Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:32 am

Yeah, but he also implies he’s going to throw in some beatboxing. God, hope it’s uptempo next week! Yay.

  3. 3 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:42 am

Blake is so cute. It really seems those two are very close friends.

I just hope all this Cake moment things don’t affect the vote totals next week. I mean the cake vote splitting stuff.

Blake I agree with you Imagine is not a song to beatbox too. You sang it bautifully. Very very pretty as Gwen may say.

  4. 4 jenlar Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:16 am

Aww… that was completely adorable! Those two play off each other so well. Blake looked pretty happy when he mentioned Bon Jovi. I’m *really* excited to see what he does!

SAVE THE BEATBOXER, SAVE THE WORLD! (i love that so much!)

    GO BLAKE! :clap_tb:

  5. 5 Tara Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:34 am

Next week will be awesome. Please Blakey bring back the beat-boxing! Blake is so cute in this video. If Chris leaves next week, I’ll be happy, but sad that Blake will lose his best buddy.

  6. 6 Karen Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:37 am

SAVE THE BEATBOXER. SAVE THE WORLD. (I love that slogan, too. It needs a banner.)

Blake is so cute and has a great personality. I can’t wait until next week. I think he is returning to his comfort zone. And He is right, you can’t beatbox a country song or John Lennon. Now I am so excited about next week. He will do great. and no matter what VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE

Oh and I still don’t get the nasally thing. Some singers have a twang, but I can’t think of any big time singers with a nasal voice.

    Karen

    Blake’s so cute! Thanks.

  8. 8 RollTide Apr 27th, 2007 at 7:17 am

LOVE that video. Thanks so much for posting it. And I hope that’s the only time he winds up on that couch.

And yay that the beatboxing is coming back. I can’t wait to see what he will sing. I know it will rock. :)

  9. 9 Cat Apr 27th, 2007 at 8:12 am

In the NY Post Page Six (celebrity news) this morning, it said that after the Wed show, the idols were invited to Rupert Murdoch’s house (he’s the owner of News Corp) with Ryan, Ellen, the judges, etc for a party and the idols performed the Bono song a cappella. Cool!

Sorry don’t have time to post the whole thing, maybe you can find it online :bye_tb:

The “Cake” votes likely make up a miniscule portion of the actual vote totals. I don’t think that’s something to worry over. Blake is not going to be the one who ends up on the short end of the stick on that one because he has more substance to his style, IMO. And, if he’s planning on bringing the Blake we fell for in the beginning back next week, then we REALLY don’t have anything to worry over. He’ll be more than fine. :)

I can’t watch these videos from work. Boo. *sniff* :)

So the songs are Bon Jovi? They’re really trying to throw a kink in my plans this week, aren’t they? ARGH.

  11. 11 pj Apr 27th, 2007 at 11:42 am

Sarah, they asked him about the Beatboxing and he said he might bring it back this week for some Bon Jovi. It does imply it may be Bon Jovi songs, but he didn’t say it outright.

Great video! Thanks for posting. He seemed happy and confidant. :)

  12. 12 Tara Apr 27th, 2007 at 11:46 am

I doubt the songs are only Bon Jovi. They don’t have that many hits for the contestants to choose from, do they? I can’t picture any of the girls singing their music.

  13. 13 RollTide Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

When he said that about Bon Jovi, I just assumed he was talking about him as a mentor, not that they had to sing their songs. I hope not at least. I mean I loved Bon Jovi back in the day, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to hear Lakisha tackling any of their songs. ;)

  14. 14 star Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

Well it says this in the news section of americanidol.com:

Seacrest kept the Top 6 contestants in suspense as he told them one by one – and in no particular order – that they were safe. Next week, television’s most popular show heats up when the Top 6 (Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson, Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey) compete head-to-head again on Tuesday at 8/7c. Rock star Jon Bon Jovi will mentor the contestants as they prepare to sing songs by his legendary band.

  15. 15 pj Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

    Ah, confirmation. Thanks Star.

    Here’s the Bon Jovi discography:

Sarah, just saw your comment in the other thread. Email away!

So, Bon Jovi huh? I wonder if Phil will do Wanted Dead or Alive. My cousin was a huge fan…then she discovered Metallica and started liking better music.

And a few possible songs from allmusic.com…

Always (Jordin or Lakisha might do this)
    Bad Medicine
    Bed of Roses
Blaze of Glory (I think if someone does this it could be a serious guilty pleasure of mine.)
    Born to Be My Baby
    Diamond Ring
    Have a Nice Day
    Hey God
I’ll Be There For You (These five words I sware to you…)
Lie to Me (might be good for Melinda)
    Livin’ On a Prayer
    Living in Sin
    It’s My Life
    Lay Your Hands On Me
Thank You For Loving Me (Lakisha or Jordin)
    This Ain’t a Love Song
    Wanted Dead or Alive
Welcome to Wherever You Are (Lakisha, Jordin or Melinda)
Who Says You Can’t Go Home
You Give Love a Bad Name

  17. 17 Tara Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Dude, that sucks. I was so hoping it would be a broader rock theme. Kiki’s out for sure, and the judges will pimp nasal boy for giving another average performance.

  18. 18 pj Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Kiki will do “Wanted Dead or Alive” since Chris sang it last year.

  19. 19 RollTide Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Ugh - now I’m totally disappointed. I was looking forward to rock. I’m not looking forward to Bon Jovi songs.

Sarah, you can email me any time.

Erinn, for some reason it thinks you are spam. :(

  22. 22 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2007 at 12:51 pm

If they are Bon JOvi songs indeed, I think Blake could do very well in the sense that he might be able to Blakize it a bit with the beatboxing.

    Hmmmmm…
If I had to choose one of the Bon Jovi songs maybe Living on a Prayer, Blake could beatbozx in the beginning of that song, it would fit.
    Or maybe Runaway.
    JMHO.
Here are two videos of those songs:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE11Zrrp24I
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkGOxMyy55c

In any case I think Blake will do better than nasal boy in this week.
Blake’s high range voice can fit these songs, he can reach those glory notes when he wants to, remember I Need to Know?
But we are going to have to vote our butts off, he will probably perform first or second.

I really can’t picture nasal boy singing Bon Jovi though. Heh.

    LOL :)

  24. 24 star Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

Tara, I’m with you. I’d rather it be a broader theme too. I really hate it when they’re limited to one artist (see: Diana Ross week).

I guess my preference for Blake would be “You Give Love A Bad Name.” Maybe? I dunno.

The only ones I can imagine doing really well with this theme are Phil and Jordin. But, I was worried about what Blake would do for Latin week, and that turned out okay, so maybe he’ll surprise me again with Bon Jovi.

  25. 25 Sarah Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Well carp. It IS just Bon Jovi songs. DAMN YOU, tptb! I had a good plan for this week too! Ugh. :laugh_tb:

ETA: Phil will definitely do “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”. And if anyone, I repeat ANYONE, sings “Wanted Dead or Alive”, they’re idiots. You don’t do a song that a previous contestant had as their song on the compilation cd.

Speaking of compilation cd… have we heard anything about it yet?

  26. 26 Erinn Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:08 pm

Thanks pj. I feel so special.

  27. 27 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Yes.. I agree. Why they couldn’t have a more broad rock theme? Blake could have picked something more hip & contemporary.
    Oh well….
I just hope he can pick the right BJ song for him and beatbox a bit.
    I am sure he will.

  28. 28 Sarah Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:16 pm

I actually like the fact that it’s limited - not necessarily to Bon Jovi b/c IMO there are better rock bands out there, but because this week really favors NO ONE, so they’re all gonna have to step out of their comfort zone. And especially at this stage of the competition when it’s most needed, they’re gonna have to step up their game to stay. I want to see who really wants this, and who has the guts and the goods to deliver.

This week will separate them into the good, the bad, and the ugly. Should be great teevee!

  29. 29 Tara Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

The themes this year really sucks. I don’t want to make anybody worry, but Nasal Boy had said in the past that he was looking forward most to Bon Jovi week. He said he was a big fan, doesn’t mean he can sing their songs well though.

  30. 30 pj Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

Erinn, I will keep a lookout for your posts. Whe I “de-spammed” you it supposedly should learn that you aren’t spam. Not sure how long that takes.

  31. 31 Erinn Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:31 pm

maracaibo, Livin on a Prayer (not Runaway, sorry) could be really good. Lots of beatboxing potential.

Someone needs to tell him that now that we know he can get away with a lot more beatboxing. It’s not a gimmick anymore. It’s just his style.

pj, my other post went through okay. I hope it was just the length. I hope…

Sarah, I agree about the comfort zones. This week should be very interesting.

  32. 32 Sarah Apr 27th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

I had to de-spam some posts this morning too. I don’t know what exactly the software looks for, but I do look at all of them before I permanently delete all spam. I’m sorry if yours gets flagged. Supposedly, the software updates when we “de-spam” a comment.

Is it just crazy that I would LOVE Blake to do “You Give Love a Bad Name”? Angry Blake… hmmmm. Nice.

  33. 33 star Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

I yanked this from MJ’s…I can’t pull up the page for some reason but this is what was quoted from the article there:

Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora will work with “Idol” contestants for Tuesday’s rock-themed performances. …
    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1558104/20070426/50_cent.jhtml

    So who knows? LOL.

  34. 34 CarieB Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:10 pm

If Blake’s going to bring back the beatboxing, then “Living on a Prayer” is perfect!!! Go Blake!

  35. 35 Sarah Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Star, I think I’d probably go with what’s on the official AI website.

  36. 36 pj Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Star, interesting. Conflicting info. Maybe it will be like Gwen night and be songs by Bon Jovi and others that inspire him. LOL.

  37. 37 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Blake’s going to bring back the beatboxing, then “Living on a Prayer” is perfect!!! Go Blake!

I know Carie that is the perfect Bon JOvi song to beatbox with. If that is the theme I really hope he picks that song.
The very beginning of the song is perfect to do some beatbox..
    I am getting excited now…

  38. 38 lady_iriska Apr 27th, 2007 at 3:46 pm

Ok, an idea - maybe it was supposed to be BonJovi for 1 song and any rock song for the 2nd choice?
But then they decided to leave everyone, so now the Top 6 all do 1 song and it’s BonJovi?

Or they still do 2, so BonJovi Rock song.

I understood Blake as if he’s surely will sing BonJovi.

  39. 39 lady_iriska Apr 27th, 2007 at 3:49 pm

Wow, maracaibo, my 2 choices for Blake were also Living on a Prayer and Runaway.
For some reason those 2 fit his voice and beatboxing, in my mind.

  40. 40 Cat Apr 27th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

oh no, I really dislike Bon Jovi. Hopefully Blake will rework whichever song he chooses since they are hardly untouchable “classics”.

I think it will be a bloodbath like Queen week last year, maybe good teevee though as Sarah says…

  41. 41 Karen Apr 27th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

I don’t understand why the producers picked Bon Jovi. His voice is so unique that few people can pull it off. I think nasal boy should do “You give love a bad name” not Blake. Its such an iconic song that anyone could easily ruin it. I would rather nasal boy take the fall than Blake. Blake already risked everything with Imagine. Imagine is Lennon’s song. No one else should sing it. Ever.

I think Blake should do Runaway. I think it would suit his voice and be entertaining. Not too much beatboxing room though. Maybe they will have two songs and he could beatbox to the second choice.

  42. 42 Karen Apr 27th, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Hmm. I feel I was a bit to hard on Chris. Lets just say I don’t think anyone should do “You give love a bad name.”

  43. 43 maracaibo Apr 27th, 2007 at 11:51 pm

    Karen:

Living on a Prayer is perfect for Blake. It’s more suited to include a bit of beatboxing. He will rock it out.

Let’s leave nasal boy to ruin “You give love a bad name”. He doesn’t have any range to sing that song. JMHO.

I am excited for Blake actually, I think he can pull it off and blakize the song.

  44. 44 Tara Apr 28th, 2007 at 5:13 pm

If even nasal boy butchers on Tuesday, we already know what the judges will say:

Randy: Dawg, that’s one of your best performance
Paula: It was hot, hot, hot
Simon: It’s contemporary, and you have lots of potential

  45. 45 maracaibo Apr 28th, 2007 at 10:33 pm

Well, if nasal boy butchers the Bon jOvi song I really hope the judges don’t praise him. I mean come on, it would be too damn obvious.

Most of the media don’t like Chris R voice so I hope they are more fair.
And i also hope Blake wows them ! I know he will. Can’t wait!
