Here it is - Blake’s shiny press release announcing his recording contract with Arista!
Blake Lewis, the popular runner-up on the sixth season of “American Idol,”
has been signed to 19 Recordings / ARISTA Records and is already working on his debut album with a stellar line-up of producers and songwriters. The album is due for release in late 2007.
“Blake has a strong music sensibility and knows who he is and what his music should represent.” Says Clive Davis, Chairman CEO BMG Label Group “His collaborators are all knocked out by him.”
Blake says:
“I love performing, so spending the summer on the road has been a great experience,” says Lewis. “But I’m also enjoying my time in the studio and I’m very excited about recording my debut album. I’m thrilled to be working with 19 Recordings and ARISTA Records”.
And Simon Fuller’s thoughts on Bshorty:
“Blake is one of the most unique ‘Idol’ contestants I’ve ever seen,” says Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group “He brought something new to the competition and won fans all over America. Hey Guys! I’ve been a lurker for a long time and I start and end my day every day with teamplaid! So thank you so much for giving me a reason to spend at least an hour every day drooling over Blake news (as if I need another reason to!) Anyway I looked at this picture and I absolutely had to comment on it since I noticed no one else has…look at his wrist…I’m trying to figure out what lyric or something he has written on it!!

I know this is OT, but the Maroon 5 feature was waaaaaaaay back there, so I chose to post it here.
There is a really good M5 feature on the 106.1 KissFM site with a few acoustic performances by M5, along with a questionnaire-type interview. My question is: Is M5 having to jazz up their songs a bit since Blake totally showed them up by doing a pair of their songs on AI? I know that all the Blakers out there just can’t listen to TL or SWBL without hearing Blake’s vocals instead of Adam’s now…Oh, well…I just found it interesting, as well as a nice feature!

It’s not a tattoo, Memo…just a reminder to call Nick(some are assuming Nick Hexum from 311, but it really could be anybody named Nick that Blake knows). Blake has said previously, in a behind-the-scenes vid from AI, that he sometimes writes key words on his wrist…like entrances for songs, etc.

Well, someone got a little concerned because the 19Entertainment and ? is still there where the label name should be. I told them that they show B’s last login date there as 7/8/2007 and we know that isn’t right. There have been some technical glithces on myspace the last few days as far as friends who are on your list that might have deleted their accounts. I’ve got 2 on my list like that. There is a big red “X” over their names. No one needs to panic because we already know he has a done deal. I think most of us have a feeling now that we may or may not see the 11/20 release date although it would be good for black Friday sales. Of course, we all know by now that these release dates change frequently. Season 5 anyone? hee
The date thing isn’t just on Blake’s page but on other pages as well, it must be a glitch. Other friends I have on My Space all have screwed up last loggin dates. I only speculated yesterday that the label may take control of his page because normally all the AI pages are eventually run by the label or at least revamped. Blake not being logged in for x amount of days could just mean he’s busy or whatever.
Why is everyone freaking out over the 19E ? thing still being there? Obviously if he hasn’t been on My Space it wouldn’t be changed yet. Are people actually still in panic over a deal? The official press release is out and nothing is more official than that, period.
More like every single season.

I still don’t understand what an odd loggin date has to do with a possible lack of a deal. Why would someone get nervous? If it was a matter of the label doing something to the page wouldn’t that in fact mean he does have a deal?

We know the deal is done, over and out, and I think some need to take a deep breath and just wait because it will be fixed and like you said, if he hasn’t been on the page, especially since before the signing which it doesn’t look like he has, then it will remain just as it is now till he logs on again. Absolutely nothing for anyone to panic over.

Actually since that NY Post article hit the nail on the head and was right about Arista they are probably also correct in saying he was signed last month, we just had no clue about it. The Post author might have a contact at BMG or 19. He still wouldn’t be able to do anything or even mention the label until the label made it official to the public.
I, personally, am not concerned about the lack of a deal when I look at that myspace login date. I have read that some are thinking that Clive & Co. have decided to take over his myspace page and make it all Arista-approved, etc. I hope this isn’t the case, but it’s not like we could stop it if it is. *goes to the zen garden* BIF! Ohmmmmmmmmmmm
I’m not concerned about it one bit based on the fact he’s got a deal. There should be no more concern about that part anymore.

I don’t think anyone was freaking out over the login date/non-updated label section as pertaining to a deal. lol, 90% of the fandom was already celebrating over the Post article, and the rest of us skeptics were WAITING for the official press release and pounced on the news yesterday. If other’s login dates are screwy then it’s a MS glitch.

I think it’s inevitable that Blake will become more removed from his fans as his fame rises. It’s why I always kinda hoped he’d stay indie but that’s selfish of me! Really, I just want him to achieve his dreams and I want to be able to buy his music and to see him in concert - that’s it. He never has been very good about accepting comments and such on his MS page anyway! It’s funny to watch and see the random stuff that he approves! Silly boy! But it would be nice if we could still get the ocassional blog from the man himself signed “love and happiness” and full of “thanks giving”! :) Isn’t he just a little dream? Love him!

Just because the label may take some control of his page doesn’t mean he would have to lose contact with the fans. Kat and Chris both did a really good job of staying in touch with blogs through their album cycle and beyond.
I knew if I went away for a few days the press release would come out. Glad that’s finally settled. Looking forward to the single, ADD, and the solo tour.
Hopefully the single will be more interesting than Tattoo, which sounds like a watered down version of Irreplaceable with a slowed down melody borrrowed from Umbrella sung by Moment Like This era Kelly Clarkson. Well the Radio Disney/Hannah Montana tween crowd might go for it.

Back to Blake’s press release, I really love Clive’s comment about Blake’s collaborators being “knocked out” by him. That tells me he has good chemistry with them, which can only yield positive results! You know, if Blake were to work with Stargate, together they might be able to come up with a new sound. Whereas with Jordin, we get “Irreplaceable 2.0.”
Yup! I hope there are video blogs from Blake in our future!

Damn. I just listened to Jordin’s new single and I just don’t know what to think. Its cheesy, plain, and totally unclimatic. Why is she singing about a tattoo? I am so confused. Part of me is thinking she will end up like Ruben and be totally forgotten, but the other part of me remembers that the High School Musical soundtrack was #1 forever and the Hannah Montana soundtrack did better than Kelly Clarkson’s lastest album. Jordin could flop or she could be the next big hit. I have no idea.
Anyway, YAYAYAY Blake. I am so happy to hear about the record deal. I knew it was coming. I just know Blake will be himself and for that I don’t care what his first single is. I just want him to feel proud of sharing his art and communicating with his audience.

Congrats to Blake! I think Clive is going to push this CD hard. I mean the producers he and Blake’s management have lined up for the album are just AMAZING. These guys don’t set up shop with just anyone and certainly aren’t blown away by most.
Rest assured that there is almost no doubt that Blake’s first single will be completely different than “Tatoo” (which is every facet of AWFUL imaginable).

Regarding Tattoo? They no likey. Youngest age11 says that it is like she’s trying to sound like Kat McPhee’s album try, and you know what? She has a point with that!! LOL. Out of the mouths of babes.

Nyla, I agree that Blake’s single will be (if we know him at ALL) a total 180 from Jordin’s single. Tattoo was intended to basically please everyone, not make anyone feel strongly enough about it to hate it, and be good background music while you’re driving/working/whatever you do while you’re listening to the radio. Blake’s single on the other hand should be like YGLABN — people will tilt their heads sideways and either love it or hate it. But it should make a definite statement. In fact if it’s NOT a totally risky song I’ll be kind of disappointed!
Regarding Season6ers– we were split in the house here. Spouse loved the Soul-Patrol sound, and we girls loved Katherine McPhee. He did not buy Taylor’s album, I bought Kat’s the day I saw it.
The couple songs that have gotten airplay of Kat’s? Neither one is the one we favor of the first fast-tracks! We like “OPen-Toes” and dance and sing it around the house. It’s a fun song, but they were so worried about making her a young, sexxy NellieFurtada wanna-be that they completely oversold it, and mis-guessed their target audience.
What I WANTED was more of what Kat did on the show, more ballads, more classics, hell, more operatic stuff with Andrea Bocelli! I despair of ever hearing that from her now. She seems to like her sexxy persona.
