Wow, the news is coming at us fast and furious today! Ken Barnes of USA Today’s Idol Chatter was one of apparently many recipients of a press release from 19 Entertainment, announcing Blake’s debut single…
Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis emerges from the cocoon of silence that has mostly enveloped him (tour aside) since the end of the show. 19 Entertainment has announced a Dec. 4 release date for his still-untitled album, and a leadoff single, Break Anotha, goes out to radio Tuesday.
The thoughtful folks at 19 also included a link for lucky recipients of the press release to hear the single, which I did. It sounds like a clever maximizing of Blake’s musical inclinations in a contemporary pop context. Or, in plainer English, it’s a heavily produced pop-soul tune featuring a chanted chorus with a striking strings figure and a bit of beatboxing and other vocal gymnastics. Seems to be aimed straight at the Justin Timberlake market, and — with a properly warm radio reception — it could hit the jackpot.
Sounds like Ken thinks there’s some hit potential here! And it’s great that they’re getting it to radio so quickly. Stations will be adding Christmas music to their playlists soon, so it makes it a little more difficult for a new song to build momentum during the holiday season. Way to go, Team Blake! I can’t wait to hear this tomorrow!

Hearing Blake sing to the radio, yes, makes me jealous. :) But I’m glad you two heard the song on the radio! Must have been a cool moment.
As for Jordin and the video - VERY cool of her to have done that, and I am glad the producers kept it in the video. It’s good for B and it can’t hurt Jordin! Amazing how supportive of each other this year’s cast has been.
I’m with you - hope some Blaker Girls will post videos of the Dallas performance! I’m in B withdrawals.

I haven’t posted in forever! Been overwhelmingly busy with grad school and work, so much that I’m seriously considering starving myself so I can go down to part-time hours. Why the heck do you guys care about this…on with Blake.

“Know my Name” vs. “Break Anotha” Although I feel guilty even talking about it, because it’s not actually out yet…I absolutely adore “Know My Name”. I really like “BA” and I think it was an excellet choice for the single, however, KMN is the one that gets me dancing and singing, and yeah, it’s cute as hell picturing Blake writing a little love letter to Natalie Portman.
Oh yeah, I wonder if the Dallas show will allow camcorders? it’s a sports thing…maybe I’ll just get a new camera. Heh. Either way, I’ll come back with a review, some pics, and videos! Ahhhhh! So excited.
dani, as far as I know teenybopper just means a young teenage girl who is into clothes, boys, and a certain kind of music, especially boy bands. I may be wrong on this since it has been a while since I was one. I think it is a good thing. That is what 13 year olds should be thinking about in their spare time.
Do we have confirmation that KMN is about Natalie Portman or is it just because he said she is his celebrity crush? I know that someone had that listed on their myspace or something too. Whoever it is about-I wouldn’t mind being her.

I have that VS channel, and I’m going to watch it closley, just in case they feature highlights or something. I hope that Blake is so awesome, he makes Kanye throw another temper tantrum ala MTV awards.

I said I wasn’t going to post for a while, but I need to clear up my last message. When I said Blake sang to his own song it was because he put his CD in the player. I am sure that he wasn’t trying to impress me, but was practicing songs for future rehearsals and shows. Like he has noted before, he is constantly singing and making noise.
I still haven’t heard him on the radio, but then I am usually listening to cd’s in the car and don’t have much opportunity at work.

My understanding is that there was a song listed at ASCAP, or somewhere, that was tentatively titled “Natalie Portman” with Blake as the performer… Some folks determined this was KMN. I’m not saying this is fact, just passing on the info.

Mr.lewis would blake think it’s weird that my locker at school is covered with pictures of him? (my guess is he would call me a stalker..)
Also would he think I’m a crybaby cuz the night Iwent to the idol tour I cried like for hours cuz they wouldn’t let me meet Blake (seriously I cried… and going on the tour was my whole 13th birthday and I got it early and I was really hoping to meet him… hmm I could blab about this awhile but..)

Oh my heavens, I can’t believe that I totally missed the fact that B. must be over his bronchitis. He is singing in the car, so he must be feeling much better! I’m so glad he got to Seattle to breathe some clean air. The last time we saw him he was hacking up a lung in Ethan’s Adventure 14.
