I have to agree. It’s not so much about what is on the front cover, but the music itself and usually the pics that are on the inside of the booklet where the lyrics are, usually, those pics are outstanding! I think B is saving the hot poses for the inside cover IMO.

I like pictures of Blake, I’m not going to lie. The cover is interesting, and it may trigger different responses and rememberings in different folks. Sorta abstract art is like that, and open to interpretation.(and personalization)

Chrissy, I can’t help but think it’s a good thing…like someone said about his YGLABN performance…it’s not gonna make any of his fans NOT like him, and it’ll catch the attention of new people who might be interested enough to buy. Anyone who’s gonna refuse to buy based just on the cover probably isn’t who we are shooting for anyway :)

I like that cover because it is very different than most of what’s out there at the moment. It’s also pretty different from what the Idols usually hve - just compare Jordin’s with Blake’s.

But most of all? I love it because it seems to be very “Blake”. The color scheme, the 80s psychedelic feel to it, the obvious passion for music and the similarities to his myspace page (I actually think that is very clever).

But yeah, what matters the most is what is inside…. Those hot pics better be in there!

A great design! It looks retro and futuristic at the same time, and it’s got a “day dreamy” quality with all the little details and the colors. I like the main photo, I think his eyes are telling a story.

That’s exactly what I said on other boards ;). Futuristic yet also retro, this artwork does a great job of blending the two themes together.

I’ve noticed that some of you feel that primary photo doesn’t capture Blake’s personality, but I think it totally DOES!! He has never been about the “pretty boy” persona, that’s not his thing at all so it makes sense that his album cover would place greater emphasis on the art, graphics, and concept of the album itself.

Since the photo is not of GQ model “hot” caliber, your attention is drawn to all the other details in the artwork.

I love the cover myself. This fits in very well with the concept of the album. We can get “pretty boy cheesecake” pics anywhere and anytime. This captures his artistic and thoughtful side and I love it when we get to see that. It reminds me of the serious and sincere guy I met before my concert. Honestly, I don’t get that people don’t see this is sexy. JMHO.

I agree, the photo and cover art as a whole here are kinda sexy, but in a more cognitive way. As in, not “Wow, that’s friggin’ hot” sexy, but a more cerebral “he’s so into music as an art form” sexy. ;)

I don’t mind Daughtry’s album cover, but it’s alot less artsy than Blake’s, LOL. Althought the Daughtry CD just proves that you don’t need anything flashy on the front of your CD to sell, since Chris D. is 3.3 million and counting.

I know what you mean. Daughtry’s cover photo-art is more serious, and it fits his musical style ;). Blake’s is more… well… artsy and weird, and suits him to a tee!

Blake has a playful, whimsical persona, and the cover art conveys that. I wouldn’t say it is a measure of the man I met on tour–but this cover DOES show, there is more going on than we are aware of.

I would never advise anybody to make that their primary effort. That’s the thing you do when you’ve tried everything else, and everything else didn’t work. Looking back, would I do that show again? Not in a million years.

You have to be very careful with that stuff - obviously it worked out for Kelly Clarkson and it’s working for Leona, but there’s a backlash to it.

I think he is absolutely right. There’s a lot of backlash for being on shows like AI. Hopefully it will all work out for Blake too.

ryan was amazing for being so young at the time, but then he just fell off the face of the earth. when that video of him with blake and steph jones first showed up this summer, i was like NO WAY - IS THAT **THE** RYAN TEDDER?? i couldn’t believe it. but i’m really happy for him that he’s finally found some big success. he’s a talented guy.

See, it already has that distorted “look” to it as it is in print-form. And in the ADD Trailer(which i do enjoy and need to watch today)the visual they used in advertisement was definitely a holo-form of the three heads, turning like a strobe.

I am a little excited at the idea of that. When was the last time you saw packaging like that?– Finding Nemo. Ooo, sparkly.

ps. Knowing Ryan came up the hard way like that, and in a singing competition makes me heart him just a little bit more. I was completely out-of-it in 2000, so I don’t recall anything from that time that wasn’t Dora the Explorer or Blues Clues…but i DO remember the war cry of Free Lance! hah! About the cover… I liked it when I first saw it on Blake’s MySpace. Someone else commented that for Blake it is about the music not the whole sexy man look. I agree with that…. Besides, IMO, this cover is a lot less threatening to your boyfriends and husbands. Blake has always said it is about the music and that he is making his 2080’s album. This cover feels like it might fit into the 2080’s. I think it is again another very smart move.
Someone mentioned that they wondered if Ethan helped with the cover. I thought Cisco was his friend helping on it? I thought I had read that.

Hey Bully, that lyric’s probably “domo arigato” meaning thank you in Japanese but I like your version ;) those dang ls and rs again! And cool if you’re right about it being a hologram or a lenticular image. Oh, Mr. Kilroy says you can’t do lenticular on dvds. Nm.

I didn’t get a chance to closer examine the dvd case of the Taylor Swift album–but it does appear to be a physical sort of thing on the plastic casing. Like those cards you can get, that have a picture printed on it and it catches the light wierd in a holographic way. Moire, yes. Her’s is a multi-colored floral motif, but her body itself is not moiree’d, just as I suggested for B’s.

A printed on foil like the Finding Nemo packaging would be beautiful. Spouse says it would be expensive–but they’ve already done things like that before right? Purple patterning on a foil material would be “WAAAaaaHHH!” good, IMO.

It’s all speculative, of course. The video and the smudging of the background simply suggests it, to me. It’s nice to see you in here, tonite, btw.
PS. only one other person mentioned a Styx reference in regards to the album motif. Maybe it’s generational.

ANyways, I just found another awesome review of Break Anotha from the Detroit News Music Blog.

Blake Lewis is awesome.

Blake Lewis’ “Break Anotha,” which hit the Internets two weeks ago, is one of the most exciting singles of the year.

It’s got horns, strings, beatboxing, a hard-charging chorus, the bassline from Jane’s Addiction’s “Mountain Song” and the disorienting weirdness of Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack.” It’s the most promising debut single from an “American Idol” contestant yet.

The question when Lewis was on “American Idol” was how his beatboxing shtick and propensity for liking 311 was going to translate to record. We now have the answers: The beatboxing fits in well with his urban pop edge, and there’s no traces of 311 anywhere. Phew!

Lewis’ debut album “A.D.D.: Audio DayDream,” is due Dec. 4, two weeks after “Idol” winner Jordin Sparks’ album hits stores.

My prediction: Lewis will blow Sparks out of the water, if not in first week sales then in three months’ time. Any takers?

But again, nice to see someone else acknowledging that, especially after PureTone only said that Ryan produced (in the blurb after the release). We all know that Clive has been impressed with him. This also is evidence that Ryan Tedder was impressed as well

Yep, that’s the very first thing I noticed when Blake blogged about his single before it was released - how he produced it with Ryan Tedder. ;) That, and the co-writing credit. I was actually surprised that more people didn’t mention it on the boards at the time, given how Blake is such an overall musician. The fact that he co-produced his debut single with someone who is “hot” in the music industry at the moment (”Apologize” is-was #1 on Billboard, Ryan has produced for some big names) will definitely enhance B’s credibility in music circles.

I’ve looked on the Arista site before to try to figure out how to contact them, but I’ve never found any info there that tells you how can get in touch with them. I got a kick out of your theory that Blake’s cover art might have holographic accents to it. ;) I can actually see this happening, since we are talking B here. LOL. And assuming that Clive is willing to shell out some extra bucks for it. That sort of added enhancement would definitely add to the futuristic theme and catch shoppers’ eyes on the CD racks. For now I’ll just expect your basic album cover but I’ll be pleasantly surprised if I see shiny and sparkly! :D
