New TV Guide Interview

Here’s a new Q & A session with Blake courtesy TV Guide! Some highlights:

On his album…

TV Guide: What does it sound like so far?
Blake:
All my tracks on my album are totally different from each other. No track is going to be the same as the next one. I don’t want to be put into a box. It’s going to be pop music, but it’s very inspired by the ’80s. Prince, Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode. Good grooves and fun.

On the speedy recording process…

TV Guide: Your album is due out in December. Is it tough juggling recording and touring?
Blake: That’s the only thing that’s frustrating about it, that it has to be done so fast. But it’ll be done when it’s done. I’m not getting stressed out about it. I’m just writing as much as I can. If things come out good, then we’ll make an album. If not, then, well, you know. It’s the corporate world of pop music. [Laughs]

On ninja grandmothers…

TV Guide: Any funny moments with fans?
Blake:
I call grandmas “ninjas” because they start grabbing you. It’s funny coming off the show because people feel like they know you but they don’t really know you at all. Yet they feel like they have the liberty to invade your space.

TV Guide: The grandmas grab you?
Blake: Oh, yeah. The grandmas are the craziest. But I love them! They’ll pinch you and stuff. That’s their job. They’re so sweet. It’s funny that it’s the grandmas and not the younger population. I would think it’d be vice versa.

On his favorite tour stops…

TV Guide: Have you had a favorite city you’ve visited so far?
Blake:
I loved Chicago. That was fun. I love New York, so every time I’m here, I almost feel like I’m home. Seattle is kind of like a mini-New York. I like any town that has water around it, that’s green. Pittsburgh was kind of gloomy, but I had fun there. I had fun in Iowa. I have fun on the days that I actually get to go out and experience a town.

TV Guide: Is there anywhere you got to do anything especially cool?
Blake:
I played an improv show in Chicago, at Del Close. It was cool. I got to be the host and tell stories and stuff, and the improvers acted it out. I have a lot of friends who are comedians so I do a little improv, just character work. Besides music, that’s pretty much my favorite thing.

Arista It Is!

Here it is - Blake’s shiny press release announcing his recording contract with Arista!

Blake Lewis, the popular runner-up on the sixth season of “American Idol,” has been signed to 19 Recordings / ARISTA Records and is already working on his debut album with a stellar line-up of producers and songwriters. The album is due for release in late 2007.

“Blake has a strong music sensibility and knows who he is and what his music should represent.” Says Clive Davis, Chairman CEO BMG Label Group “His collaborators are all knocked out by him.”

Blake says:

“I love performing, so spending the summer on the road has been a great experience,” says Lewis. “But I’m also enjoying my time in the studio and I’m very excited about recording my debut album. I’m thrilled to be working with 19 Recordings and ARISTA Records”.

And Simon Fuller’s thoughts on Bshorty:

“Blake is one of the most unique ‘Idol’ contestants I’ve ever seen,” says Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group “He brought something new to the competition and won fans all over America. I know they’re going to love his first album, because it shows him off as his very best.”

Yay!!

The Mob Law - CD Release Party

Where would I be Saturday night if I lived in the greater Seattle area?  Easy. I’d be at Neumo’s celebrating the release of The Mob Law’s first full-length CD, Hold Us Down.  If you’re over 21 and live in the Seattle area, you should definately check out the party.  Doxology, Shim, and Yeke Yeke are also on the bill.  Tickets are only $10 and the doors open at 8pm.

Unfortunately, I will have to content myself with purchasing the CD from iTunes or CD Baby after the release.  To listen to a preview of the new material, check out The Mob Law’s Myspace. They’re streaming three new songs every day until the party, so visit both today and tomorrow.     Feel free to post what you think of the new tunes here.

I know we have some new readers, so be sure to check out our feature on The Mob Law if you missed it. Also, don’t forget to grab a copy of their previously released EP from iTunes or CD Baby.

Pittsburgh, PA - August 22

You know the drill. Email us your recap at teamplaid@gmail.com or post it in this thread. Your pics and videos are always welcome, too!
